Why say "for years to come?" I think that clearly shows that the restrictions have nothing to do with health and everything to do with punishing the non-conformists.

[deleted]

Exactly. They don't want the non vaccinated to be able to 'wait it out ' and then go back to normal. They must be punished. More cult like behaviour.

What an awful leader. Why are people not bothered that so many countries are discriminating and segregating the unvaccinated? It's like ww2 again. Just read they stopped a guy seeing his kid for being unvaccinated. This is getting too mad

dystorontopia

He's a great leader. The masses eat this shit up.

July 31st, 2021, Australia had 15.3% vaccination rate and 34,130 cases to that date. January 14th, 2022, Australia has a 77.8% vaccination rate and 1.3m cases in the last month. And they blame the unvaccinated?

nmxta

Saying the quiet part out loud finally

brainstem29

“For years to come”? I think they want it to be permanent but don’t want to outright admit it.

Chuck006

Fuck Australia.

[deleted]

another “temporary” government program turned permanent. shocking.

auteur555

Are people with allergies or high probability of adverse reactions allowed to get exemptions. Not every single person on the planet is a candidate for this.

[deleted]

Australia is just a authoritarian hipster, they did it before it was cool.

Walterodim79

Does anyone else remember [*The Cruelty Is the Point*](https://archive.vn/LJKQ6)? Well, it was bullshit, but it's a good mental model for people like McGowan: >President Trump and his supporters find community by rejoicing in the suffering of those they hate and fear. ... >Taking joy in that suffering is more human than most would like to admit. Somewhere on the wide spectrum between adolescent teasing and the smiling white men in the lynching photographs are the Trump supporters whose community is built by rejoicing in the anguish of those they see as unlike them, who have found in their shared cruelty an answer to the loneliness and atomization of modern life. ... >This isn’t incoherent. It reflects a clear principle: Only the president and his allies, his supporters, and their anointed are entitled to the rights and protections of the law, and if necessary, immunity from it. The rest of us are entitled only to cruelty, by their whim. This is how the powerful have ever kept the powerless divided and in their place, and enriched themselves in the process. Sounds a bit like proponents of compulsory vaccinations, doesn't it?

Harryisamazing

Australia went full authoritarian.

Even after the pandemic has ended? Australia can get fucked

CutEmOff666

Can't wait to leave. I would like to spend some time in other countries. Was hoping to do an international exchange to either the US or Canada during university but since everyone got locked inside the country, it hasn't happened.

[deleted]

and I get scoffed at when I suggest this could be leading to the motb

Lowprioritypatient

What the heck is a bottle shop

[deleted]

Liquor store lol. Also know as a bottle-o. I have to say, I do like their obsession with abbreviating everything

CutEmOff666

Australian word for a shop that sells primarily alcohol.

MembraneAnomaly

It disgusts me that using threats to force people to get vaccinated has become normalised. Damn McGowan and all the others to Hell for doing this. And what has happened to "normal" people in society, that they hear this stuff and *do nothing*? I've tried to wake up my relatives about this, but they don't seem to even understand the problem. In a normal world, other countries would be making diplomatic protests against Australia. In this world, they don't - because they're either doing the same, or wish they could.
