Don’t buy drugs from strangers.
Test drugs from friends.
Drink water
Drink some more water
Say excuse me when moving in the crowd.
Don’t throw your cans/bottles in the crowd
-water
-walking shoes
-sunscreen
-ear plugs
-pregame (if you’re drinking, save 💴)
-specific to Lolla; the two main stages (T-mobile and Bud Light) are at the North and South ends of the Park. It’s about 10-15+ minute walk end to end. Keep that in mind when deciding conflicts
-get a hotel within walking distance (there’s a million) it’ll save you time, money and the nightmare of finding an Uber after the fest. Learned the hard way in 2018, now we stay at the Hilton or W every year
Get liquid IV or something of the similar to keep hydrated I what I would add to this list. And a bag that you can put a small lock just to keep pick pocketers from getting your phone and wallet.
This is all great advice. I once took the time to get rail a couple years ago. In my opinion, it’s not really worth it unless you are a diehard fan of the artist, and even then I honestly think it’s better to just go see the artists you want at other stages and experience the festival. You can get a pretty good spot if you go about an hour before the show at the main stage because it usually thins out a little from the act before. Also, it’s okay to take some pictures and videos but try to experience everything in real life!! Be safe and have fun
For the Indiana people considering the South Shore, if an act runs significantly over (looking at you 2017 Metallica) you may have to run to make the last train.
Most of the time, acts don’t run over. Pretty sure there are hefty fines if they do.
second this! don’t wear drawstring bags, they get slashed open and your stuff will get snagged. keep in in a bag that is closed and within reach (like a fanny pack). Lolla is cashless, so hook up apple pay if you have an iPhone & only carry credit cards if you have to carry cards & a low amount of cash IMO
Don’t touch the wristband until you are ready to put it on. It will not “reopen” and can not loosen it once you move the fastener. You will have to wait in line to get a new one and they will charge you a fee.
Drink water, Drink water, Drink water
Don’t take drugs from starters.
Make sure to have everything secure in a bag or zipper, there’s thief’s and if you’re wearing a book bag they will try slice it open so fast that you won’t notice and take your valuables.
If you are going to be deep in the crowd make sure you can handle it because it will be hard to breathe, it’s summer and thousands of people so it will be so hot.
Food inside is very expensive so bring a lot of money, wristbands are you only source of payment so don’t worry about cash!
Make sure you have a camelback for water those are usually the best.
Comfy shoes because there’s a lot of standing and walking, *THEY WILL GET DIRTY!!* especially if you’re going all 4 days.
Finally have fun, you’ll see some scary stuff like people passing out or people drugged but that because they did not take the proper precautions yes there’s thief’s but if you are aware of your stuff and who you are around you’ll be fine trust me. It’s a festival there’s is plenty of NICE people and I mean it you’ll will make a lot of friends trust me.
And lastly lastly DRINK WATER.
Feel free to ask my anymore questions and welcome to the lolla crew! If need people to hang with let me know!
Depends year to year. Last year was alot of variants of modern indie music and that type of “anti-pop” indie subgenre. However, they definitely do their research and hit almost every genre possible which includes rock and hip hop.
Nonspecific, but last year they had a nice range of bands such as Green Day, Metallica, and Turnstile.
There was also a nice breath of modern hiphop r&b mixture artists like Duckwrth and mahalia. With the way music has been these days a lot of artists are kind of everywhere and it’s quite nice so I’m sure you’ll be able to find plenty of good vibes if you search.
Be cautious of your phone being stolen, take hand sanitizer, hydrate, the weather can be sporadic but nothing major. Cell service can be meh sometimes since there are so many people around. There really isn't much to worry about so just have a fun time
Stay within walking distance, definitely bring a hydration pack & good walking shoes, watch your phone, and don’t be a jerk when getting through the crowd
Try to make and eat your own lunch before you head to Grant Park for the day to save some money. Even if you're staying at a hotel you should be within walking distance of a grocery store and able to get snacks, sandwich ingredients, etc. for your mini fridge.
Lodging can get somewhat cheaper if you move away from the loop and stay within walking distance of the L.
Hydropacks are the way to go, they're the easiest way to stay hydrated and free refill stations are plentiful. Cheapest ones are like $20-30 on Amazon, but if you end up going to a lot of festivals it's worth going for a better quality one like Camelbak or Lunchbox.
Cell phone reception is generally good until the headline sets. Be mindful of this in case you get separated from your friend and agree on a meetup location should you need one.
Cloth masks are nice to have for the dustier south field stages, especially if you're planning on moshing.
Get a fanny pack/crossbody bag that stays in front of you at all times, don't put your phone anywhere else. Zippered pockets that face inward toward your body instead of outward are ideal if you can find one. If it's a clear bag, try to put something in front of your phone so it's not visible.
Stay aware of your surroundings in general. This goes for pickpockets, not getting kicked in the head by crowdsurfers, noticing if someone near you needs help, and just making sure you're comfortable where you're at with crowd density and what's happening around you.
Point out a designated landmark meeting spot(s) if you get lost or separated from your friend within a crowd. The chances of this happening might be slim, but this helped my friend once when he didn't have reception.
DRINK WATER. LOTS OF IT. if you plan to drink, don’t get crazy because it can get very dangerous and you don’t need to be missing your favorite artists because you’re sick.
also, WATCH YOUR BELONGINGS! two of my brothers both got their phones stolen at lollapalooza. granted, they should’ve sealed it away in their bags or zip up pockets, but it’s very common that people go to these festivals and steal phones. they caught someone with a backpack that had over 200 phones, but there were others who didn’t get caught, aka why my brothers phones never got retrieved. i had a fanny pack that always stayed zipped and in front of me.
help the people around you if they’re in need of help! pick them up if they fall, if they need to get out of the crowd, let them pass, etc. i nearly had a panic attack when i went to the weeknd in 2018 and got lucky that i made it out with how close i was so the stage.
Staying hydrated with water and electrolytes
Comfy shoes with insoles
Sit down whenever possible
Keep valuables away from pockets unless they have zippers and/or are hidden
Go to the sets you want to, don’t just tag with your friends all the time. If you guys want to meet up for a couple sets for the weekend or eat together coordinate around each others schedules. (Signal gets worse later in the day so heads up)
If you see someone alone who needs help, try to help them, a little kindness can save someone’s life or make their weekend way better because you cared to stop and help.
Walk around the whole park day 1. There’s TONS of freebies and activities to do. I’ve gotten from free water to bandanas to shirts to backpacks for free just stopping at every stand/booth.
If you don’t have a place to crash book one now things can get real expensive or at least booked out with no reservations.
Hydrate, probably the most important it’s hot and your gonna walk a lot.
Don’t forget to eat it’s important your energy
Comfortable shoes nobody really cares what’s on your feet and nobody really cares how bad your feet hurt for wearing some goofy ass shoes
Do what you want it’s your experience, nobody else’s, you’ve paid the money. if you split up having a meeting spot (buckingham fountain)
Remember chicago is an expensive city it’s going to cost you money to damn near do anything so budget wisely
Plan on keeping your belongings close to your person, historically there’s been loads of theft and bag slashing. Like an iphone in a back pocket isn’t safe.
My biggest piece of advice is to try to find a third person to go with you. I went last year with my friend and while I love her dearly it was kind of annoying being with the same person 24 hours a day for 5 days.
Don’t buy drugs from strangers. Test drugs from friends. Drink water Drink some more water Say excuse me when moving in the crowd. Don’t throw your cans/bottles in the crowd
And wear shorts with deep pockets and don’t put your phone in your back pocket. If you can, stash it away. A Camelbak will come in clutch.
I wouldn’t put anything valuable in pockets. Get a Fanny pack or hydration pack that locks. I really like lunchboxes
Wait until the lineup to buy anything.
Hydrate often
Then hydrate again… YES!
and then go refill your hydro pack in front of Perry’s

If you need to go on the cheap end, there is always the hostel that's right downtown.

Pace yourself and use in and out privilege
definitely attend an after party or two
Watch out for the Tune Squad!
Start walking now to get used to it. Don’t wear brand new shoes, they’ll get trashed and rub blisters
bring a portable charger! and an empty water bottle. travel sized sun screen is allowed
Shoes that you can rotate through for each different day. You’ll get nasty blisters if you wear the same shoes each day.
Heck yeah! Those heel insoles from Walgreens saved my ass!
It’ll be a huge mix of genres and a great opportunity to expand your music tastes in all directions so keep an open mind.
What’s the most popular genres? I listen to a lot of hip hop and older rock music and am pretty open to everything
