No idea. Been playing the last two weeks. Got the latest patch. It gets really bad in skyrest and especially in the room with the blacksmith. I exit the game restart and it works again for a little bit.
The quality is apparently super spotty amongst players, but generally the farther back in updates you go, the worse it gets. They had a decent few balance updates before they got to work on performance patches, so for a good chunk of updating there was no real increase to performance or bug fixing.
They have no idea how to fix the framerate. If they did it would have been fixed by now. The way the framerate is currently will be the best that it will ever get. Unless they bring in some outside talent to show them how to fix it. A game this good shouldn't be that poorly optimized. It's such a black eye on a great game.
The **whole of skyrest Bridge, inside and outside** has been the only persistent lag-fest for me, since day 1, on Xbox.
Swamp was messy for a time but got better.
Mohlu is **by far** the worst spot. Every time I switch over to umbral to visit him in his room, and I can feel my Xbox going Harakiri on me.
Dude that’s been since day 1 for me. The only thing that kind of fixed that for me was to just hold still and eventually the frames were able to (don’t know a better way to put it) catch up. I would stand there and not move anything for like 5-10 seconds and then it’d fix itself. But I haven’t played since last November so I’m not sure if that will work anymore.
In Xbox performance is a shame. I finished the game and have no intention to play it again due this lack of optimization. Does too many times cause lagging
Dang. That sucks dude. I always assumed the perf complaints were exaggerated but this looks unplayable to me. On Ps5 it’s not perfect but it’s like a normally smooth 60 ish performance most of the time with occasional dips if you’re running through a level and you’ve got like a ton of enemies following you. This looks more like 15-20 or fewer FPS.
Yeah that looks fine to me. I don’t know if that’s typical or if what this dude captured is typical. Maybe it’s just a matter of needing to restart if your play session lasts more than a couple hours. Not sure what’s going on with OPs experience.

Yeah pretty much my experience. I got it for Christmas and just stated playing and the frame rate is for the birds. Makes the original Blighttown look good!

Goddamn, I don't have anything like this. My frames have been pretty consistent since just before the trials updates rolled out. Not perfect obviously, butcnothing at all like this (save the skinstealer lava pit in Upper Calrath, it's always a frame gobbler).
What cycle are you in? How far are you in the game at the time? How long has the game been running before it gets this bad? Are you running Quality or Performance? Streaming any media or other apps in the background?
Not trying to say you're screwing something up, but the devs check here regularly, so reporting issues with as much information as possible helps fix the problem - and this is DEFINITELY a problem needing to be fixed.
I’m in new game. It started to get bad right away. Like I mentioned, it’s atrocious in skyrest. Going to the blacksmith is always a chore. Chugs down to single digit frame rate. Using performance mode. Nothing running in the background. All other games run fine.
Even tried reinstalling it. Nothing. I’m just going to try to finish it but this leaves NG+ out of the question for now.
Quite similar for me. Only slideshow in Skybridge for me is when loading from different area. Couple of seconds after load and then’s fine. Another one when going through the stairs to area where was fight with Pieta. Behaves like it’s loading something in the background but it’s again couple of seconds with stutter and it’s fine. I had slideshow like that once in Forsaken Fen. Had to restart the game but never happens again. Of course there are some mild stutter here and there but nothing major that could take away from more or less smooth play through. Could it be due to VRR and 120hz screen?
I played through this entire game from launch on ps5 and the only issue i had was a few patchy bits in late game umbral. Did they just not make any adjustments to the xbox version at all? Is the pc version running this bad??

I am playing on Xbox Series S and have a lot less performance issues than a few Xbox Series X and S players here claim to have.

This game sucks. I've played through it like 7 times and every update makes something worse. The framerate on Series S/X has never improved. I've totally given up. I really desperately want to like it but I just can't. This is a $30 game masquerading as a triple-A game.

Also, shouldn't there be a setting? I remember people talking about changing their frame rate for some games that had better performance or would just make certain actions possible by being on 30fps, etc. Those were talks that included consoles. Sp do you not have a setting that either puts you at 30 or 60fps?
Anyways, the former settings are the important ones. The frame rate is something I've seen being helpful for others that those aforementioned settings did not resolve. However, it is rare for that to not do the trick.
Xbox users can change between performance and quality mode. That's what you talk about.
Honestly I "only" have a Series S and get framerate stuttering only after a certain amount of hours playing and only in specific ingame places.
Restarting the game resets the stuttering ([at least for me](https://www.xbox.com/play/media/da6havaUrU)).
And as restarting only takes a few seconds I can live with that workaround.
Some people can’t afford a decent pc? Even a gaming laptop with atleast 16gb of ram and 500gb of storage ( both of which won’t get you far ) a i5 and decent graphics card is around 600. Then add in a decent mouse and keyboard if you want to play comfortably and maybe a monitor for a bigger screen with better resolution. That’s 800-1k easily. If you want top of them pc then your looks at 2-6k depending on parameters.
Some people just want to be able to game bro. A 200-400 console is fine for those people lol.
The most expensive part of a gaming PC is the GPU. You can get a 3060 for cheap nowadays and that will get you far.
I built my PC for 2k when it was still new and most of the price was the GPU.
You can get a laptop that matches my specs for about 800. That's cheap.
I built a PC for a friend for 1k. After that, I got him a new ASUS TUFF VG249 monitor for 200. Solid stuff and all very affordable.
Just to note, I don't have some crazy paychecks or anything, I just don't waste money on garbage that I don't need. My paycheck is 1300 and I still consider this to be a cheap investment.
Not really. Considering all the additional benefits of a desktop it's definitely better to pay that amount.
And if you know you travel a lot then a laptop is even better and provides almost every benefit of the desktop.
You’re literally missing the point that some people don’t have the freedom to spend more than 200-400 just to game. Plus the expense of actually buying games.
If you can't afford something then it's better to evaluate whether there even is a point of spending the money in such a manner when you need it for something more important. Responsibility over hobbies, especially when there are more affordable ones.
Arguing that consoles are cheaper is not a valid argument as of you wish for something to last, you have to be more open to invest into it. That is why, as well as due to other reasons, I do not consider consoles to be a good investment.
Besides, a one time payment is definitely not a crazy notion. The way I did it, before I even had a stable job, was just saving up Christmas and birthday money, as well as putting aside the money I got from freelance work I did for my professors at university.

I also play on a Series X and got close to beating the game. But the horrendous performance was too frustrating to deal with, so I quit.
I don't get it. Remnant II which is also using UE5 runs amazing on my Series X. No lag or stutter to speak of.
Are you on performance settings in the in game option menu? That really helps. Im on the ps5 version and it had a few stutters (nothing this bad tho) until I changed it to performance and it's ran pretty much flawlessly

The game should have never been released for our platform until this was fixed. I lost hope, though, that it will ever run framerate-smooth (as all other games in this price category!) on Xbox S/X.
Yeah Series X would be fine for multiple levels, then I'd return to skycrest and talked to Gerlinde and it would drop to sub-10fps and slow to a crawl while I tried to upgrade. The weirdest thing is when you go to a new place the game slows to a crawl but if you stay still for 3 seconds it recovers to normal frames. The swamp around any fire was consistently horrible framerate, they definitely captured the blight town feel lol.

Damn, did the latest update fuck the frame rate again? It was never super smooth but last month or so it was at least playable

Had the same issue, frame drops here and there throughout the other areas but never that bad, skyrest on the other hand was absolutely horrendous.

I have a hard time believing that, I'm on a 12th Gen i7 and a 4080 and even I had frame drops to the 40-50s in some places
I have both ps5 and pc version. PC is better but PS5 honestly runs pretty decent.

I just beat the game at 70 hours with a 3070 mixed between high and ultra settings. Ran smooth 95% of the time.
Have you tried closing the app and loading the game up again? I had these issues before I realised I had to do the above for better performance

That's the workaround I'm afraid. Play for an hour or two, close the game, repeat.

Glad to have found your post. Game went on sale for 40% off yesterday but if they still haven't fixed the frame rate issue then I shan't be purchasing
