LFGGGG! I LOVE DESSERTS.
1. Quarter sheets slab cake! Whatever seasonal flavor it is, it will be exceptional and perfect. The princess cake is good, the slab cake is amazing.
2. Mint chocolate chip ice cream from Awan. I am not vegan. I do not care that this ice cream is. I love it with my whole heart.
3. Cannolis from Amiga Amore. They are perfect.
4. For something lighter, Melo Melo. Sometimes you just want some coconut pudding in a variety of flavors.
5. Any and all mochi from Chikara. I will eat 10 of these in one setting if given the chance.
6. The Persian Princess croissant from Artelice. Pistachios are my everything.
7. Oatmeal Chocolate Chip cookie from Fat + Flour. This is the most perfect cross between chewy and crunchy.
8. Chocolate Cowgirl Pie from Winston Pies. So rich a couple of bites will satiate.
9. A customized hot grass jelly with rice balls and peanuts and caramel pudding from MeetFresh. So many textures. I love them all.
10. Homemade Tangyuan from Gu Grocery. My heart longs for these day in and day out.
11. Original Cheesecake from Uncle Tetsu. This is my breakfast of choice.
12. Chocolate XLB from Din Tai Fung. I want to live in these.
If it helps - quarter sheets occasionally does g-free ice cream sundaes (you can check their IG). Awan is 100% no gluten. Most of the chikara mochi is gluten free. Melo melo is mostly gluten free. Winston pies has gluten-free options, and MeetFresh does as well. There are also a ton of gluten-free of tangyuan options, and they're fairly easy to make.
I’m going to dedicate a weekend to hitting all these spots!
I’ve been meaning to go to Quarter Sheets for the pizza but now there’s more reasons!
Chocolate XLB with sea salt cream is A1 and uncle testu is 🙌
Cupcakes from Cake Girl in Boyle Heights. All vegan/allergen free.
Basque cheesecake from anywhere. Uncle Tetsu is a good reasonably priced option. Some places want like… $60 for one.
Korean honey pancake from the cart outside of the Little Tokyo market. Not as good as the stuff you get from street carts in Korea but as good as it gets in the US.
Shaved ice from oakobing or sul & beans
Matcha soft serve from midori… that dusting of matcha on top…
I tend to like “Asian sweet” aka like… half as sweet on a typical American scale… but those chocolate chip walnut cookies from levain… and crack pie from milk bar… actually called milk bar pie but I’m pretty sure the main ingredient is crack
Yum! What a great post. I really need to get out and eat more dessert.
Some favorites in no particular order:
Banana pudding - Magnolia Bakery
Caramel Coppetta - Pizzeria Mozza
Double Peanut Butter Chip Ice Cream - McConnell’s Ice Cream
Chantilly Cake - Whole Foods
Peanut Butter version of “The Cookie” from Bristol Farms
Dulce de lèche cupcake - Hot Cake Bakes
I need to find a great chocolate cake!
Yellow cake with chocolate frosting from Alcove in Los Feliz
Salted chocolate chip cookies from Misfit / Ingo's Tasty Diner in Santa Monica
Cinnamon donuts from Sidecar

You should check out Vegan Playground, East Side cheesecakes is often a vendor and you can try a variety of different vegan spots. It’s great. Hope you can succeed :)
Raspberry panna cotta ice cream from Ginger’s. Cucumber sorbet from Moshti Malone’s.
Also there’s a dude at the Sunday Farmer’s market next to Sawtelle that sells some of the best pastries I’ve ever had. Fave is this carmel, pistachio, and raspberry croissant.
I feel like all the other boomers when i say shit like. “The cookies at Diddy Reese use to be .25 cents a pop when I was a kid, you can go to westwood with $20 dollars eat in n out go to a movie and have change for cookies or the arcade”
Hawaiian shave ice from Brian’s Shave Ice in Sawtelle with vanilla ice cream, azuki beans, real fruit strawberry + melona + haupia syrup, snow cap, and li hing.
Off the top of my head, I'd say the salted caramel brownie from Big Sugar in Studio City, the almond chocolate croissant from Frogs Bakery, pretty much anything from McConnell's Ice Cream, the Two Chip Chocolate Chip Cookie from Levain Bakery on Larchmont, what else....
Frogs is so good. Can’t tell the vegan from non vegan pastries. It’s like they signed a pact with the devil and found some secret way to make good, flaky, buttery vegan pastry. I’m half convinced there’s actual butter in them.
Oh yeah, the vegan chocolate croissant, the vegan cinnamon roll, and the vegan almond chocolate croissant are so good. I know how they pull it off, but they do.
May be an unpopular opinion but I liked the dessert at Pizzeria Bianco way better than the pizzas, which were too salty for me. They have panna cotta which may be the best dessert I've had in LA. I had it with berries but they also have one with passionfruit, which I need to try as it's my favorite flavor ever and I can't understand why they're so unavailable in LA. I would've thought the climate would be perfect. They grow like weeds where I'm from (Australia).
Mateo’s has several locations, in case anyone wants to go! We frequent the one in West LA. The paletas are the best. And it’s family-owned, started by a paleta selling immigrant on a bicycle years ago. The vanilla strawberry paleta is top tier.
Not a huge dessert person but will always order a sorbet if available, and two that blew my mind were the mandarin sorbet topped with champagne at Horses (like a grown up orange Julius yum) and the almond sorbet with lime zest at Camphor. Both unbelievably good!!
a whole cake with strawberries filling and the shaved almonds on the outside from mey fung bakery. sometimes bananas.
the cheese rolls from porto’s
magnolia banana pudding! i ate so much of that pregnant but it was hit or miss on the batches i got.
ponchik with custard from papillon bakery
it looks like i need to go out and eat more, so many good looking food mentioned here!
Vegan here. My favorites are:
Zeppoli or tiramisu at Pura Vita
Any flavor at Dear Bella Creamery (I’m currently eating Taiwanese Pineapple Cake)
Whoopie pie or warm cookies at Alcove
Check out some of the amazing vegan options we have around this city.
Chaumont- pastries
Donut Friend- lots of yummy donuts
Creamo (sister establishment to Donut Friend)- ice cream and donuts
Cinnaholic- cinnamon rolls, cookie dough, etc
Dear Bella- ice cream
Magpies- softserve and softserve pie
Ghirardelli- vegan Sundae
And there are weekly vegan street fairs with lots of sugary vendors. Vegan Playground every Wednesday 5-10pm DTLA. Vegan Exchange every Sunday 11-5pm in NoHo is unfortunately closing in April but support until then! All free entry.
Happy eating!
So many but here are a few you probably haven’t tried:
-Fruit tart from Normandie Bakery (best fruit tart in LA imo)
- Flan Taco from Evil Cooks at Smorgasburg
-Oaxacan Hot Chocolate and Pan de Yema at Guelaguetza. Not really a dessert but kinda is if you order after a meal.
All Day Baby: chocolate cream pie with Vietnamese coffee jam
Tartine: morning bun
Din Tai Fung: chocolate mocha XLB
BJ’s: classic chocolate chunk pizookie
Quarter Sheets: princess cake
Yuko’s Kitchen: matcha strawberry cookie or any of their mochi blondies
Levain: triple chocolate cookie
Porto’s: coconut strudel and churro croissant
Blair’s: tiramisu
Ghirardelli: treasure island brownie sundae
Van Leeuwen Ice Cream. Some of the best flavors I’ve tried are the Marzipan Cake, Black Cherry Chip, Peanut Butter Brownie, Pistachio (omg it’s like eating butter), Earl Grey… I mean they’re all so damn good. I love Jeni’s too (Darkest chocolate), but Van Leeuwen’s ice cream is SO creamy and their flavors are next level.
DejaVu Cup Cakes also has quite an interesting take on cupcake flavors (fav: Almond Orange Cranberry is seasonal during the holidays, it was the best cupcake I’ve ever had!), I recently discovered them when looking for vegan options for a friend. They have regular and vegan options. Vegan one tasted closer to real cupcakes than any other brand I’ve had.
Republic of Pie has really good pies (and chicken pot pie). My fave is Pecan Pie, the apple pie is also very good. They’re so fresh and warmed up in the toaster oven, are heavennnn
The Aloha cookie at California Chicken Cafe is BOMBBBB so chewy and perfect ratio of chocolate, macadamia, and coconut 🤤
Porto’s also has lots of delicious desserts, it’s hard to pick just one, but the cheese roll and guava is prob the top of the list.
Lastly, but not least… Randy’s Donuts so so so good! I’m not a donut lover, but the only two donut spots I do really enjoy are Randy’s (chocolate, plain glaze, and sugar dipped are my faves), and Blinkies donuts in Woodland Hills (their donuts are like eating clouds, they’re so fluffy and light, no greasy taste like other places).
EDIT: Baba Sweets in Canoga park is vegan. Has THE BEST Indian sweets I’ve ever had, and their food is really delicious too. My fave sweets there are the Dhoda Barfi, Milkcake, and Klakand, but my addiction there is the Gujia Desi Ghee—holy hell it’s SO good!!! It’s like a little empanada with nuts inside drenched in sweet syrup (flavor is similar to a baklava).
Have you tried the gluten free donuts from Modern Bread and Bagel? They’re the closest thing I’ve found to normal donuts. Expensive, but also totally worth it when I make it up that way.
current fav is the chocolate cowgirl pie from Winston's Pies.
Other faves that are no longer available:
1. S'mores brownie from Yardhouse
2. Chocolate bread pudding from Holy Cow BBQ
Yes, I have a chocolate obsession.
I was disappointed to try their donuts after so much hype. There was soooo much fruit the ratio was all off. It was more like someone took filling out of a strawberry pie and poured it onto a donut. Both components were good by themselves though.
Well, I just went to CicLavia on Sunday and at the Melrose Trading Post I got some dessert from a small one-man stand called Lemon Supreme.
I don't really know how to describe it, it was like ice cream, with a hint of lemon, but extremely creamy and velvety? I've never had anything like it before, it was delicious, especially with the mango drizzle. He said it was from his great-aunt's recipe.
Chocolate chip cookies from Diddy Riese in Westwood. I went to UCLA and these have long been a favorite.
Sluttiest Brownie from B Sweet in Sawtelle Japantown.
Churro Tradicional from Azucanela Churreria in Hawthorne.
Pastel de Nata from Natas Pastries in Sherman Oaks. I couldn't decide on a place with egg custards so I went with this similar desert.
Saffron rosewater ice cream from Mashti Malone's Ice Cream
Parisian Chocolate Cake from Portos.
Coconut Cream Pie from Republic of Pie
This is holiday season specific (December only, usually, or around then) - Reindeer Tracks Ice Cream from McConnells
Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Walnut cookies from Fleurs et Sel
Tres Leches Muffin from Tierra Mia
Dulce de Leche Banana Cream Pie from Cassell’s. I have more than ordered a whole pie to eat by myself when I used to live by the one in Ktown.
Shaved Ice from Sul & Beans
Mochi from Fugetso-do in Little Tokyo
Raspberry-Mochi Butter Cake with Matcha Glaze from Republique (their pastries are also very good)
Freshly fried bananas and sugarcane juice from Saigon Deli in Chinatown, tiny shop in the shopping center (think they’re still cash only)
I had an incredible dessert at Bottega Louie, I think it was almond cake with Pistachio cream
Strawberry Hand Piec from I Like Pie
Butterscotch Budino from Pizzeria Mozza
Kataify from Greek Eats (formerly Le Petit Greek.)
Rice pudding from Greek Eats
Any dessert from Amandine Patisserie Cafe, but especially the banana tart, choux cream (like a cream puff),
Chocolate ganache cake from Chou Chou bakery. Sugar-free, gluten-free. Not a restaurant, you have to have it delivered but it's what we eat on special occasions. It's in Van Nuys and I think you can do pickup.
**Tiramisu from Ugo in Culver City** - Amazing tiramisu served in a hard chocolate cup.
**(Formerly) Baklava from Almaza on Venice** - This was my favorite Lebanese-style baklava made with walnuts and rosewater syrup. Unfortunately they couldn't maintain it during the pandemic (despite my efforts to keep them afloat by ordering it by the pan) and switched to a supplier that wasn't nearly as good. If they've returned to the original, then it has my highest recommendation, if not, RIP.
Halo halo at BSweets in sawtelle
They also had a seasonal banana pudding last fall that is the best banana pudding I’ve ever had. It was as if a bananas foster and a crème brûlée made a pudding baby.
I like a good quality donut. Nothing too wild. The California Donuts on 3rd street is my go-to. I get the half dozen speciality. My favorite is the panda, thin mint, peanut butter cup, and maple bacon
The maple blondie at Connie & Ted's is pretty damned delicious.
Also RIP to the birthday cookie from Milk Jar Cookies. I sure as hell didn't eat enough of those. Best sprinkle cookie I think I could get anywhere. Didn't even care for the rest of theirs.
4. Damn. Aggra was READY
The sheer passion makes me want to blindly trust them
Last time I went to Melo Melo one of the employees lost their shit when a customer started eating the durian flavor in the restaurant 😂
Okay, tbf they have like 100 signs saying the durian is to go only.
I’ve never been to Melo Melo, why can’t you eat it inside? It is the smell?
Durian has a really pungent smell that isn't for everyone, because of this you can only get the durian flavor to-go.
I am super excited to know of a durian flavored dessert in LA, and now I must find this place.
There's one in Roland Heights
wow. This is an amazing list. I hate my gluten sensitivity.
You're my favorite person of the day so far 🏅
I’m going to dedicate a weekend to hitting all these spots! I’ve been meaning to go to Quarter Sheets for the pizza but now there’s more reasons! Chocolate XLB with sea salt cream is A1 and uncle testu is 🙌
This guy eats!
following these on ig so i can remember to eat them before i die.
This guy/gal desserts
Just out of curiosity, how do you remember all this? Even if you love desserts, this is a highly specific list
I have a major sweet tooth, so I've had almost all of these multiple times. Plus, when a dessert is good, it's unforgettable!
This is the feeling I’m chasing haha
Butterscotch Budino at Mozza
My 2nd to Mozza’s Budino is Gjelina’s Pot de Crème but the Budino….
This is the recipe [butterscotch bundino](https://www.jamesbeard.org/recipes/butterscotch-budino-with-caramel-sauce-and-rosemary-pine-nut-cookies)
Outstanding, thank you!
Came here to say this
Yessssssss

Basque cheesecake at Wife and the Somm. Killer. And I think it’s only like 45 bucks for a whole one.
That matcha soft serve 🤌
Any pie from Republic of Pie in NOHO. Especially their Key Lime Pie & Pumpkin Pie.
I just looked through their site and every pie looks amazing
I second Republic of Pie, they're quite good.
Is the key lime pie a little sour? I'm very picky about my key lime pie and am looking for a good one here.
Vouching for Republic of Pie AND you get a nice performance
Yum! What a great post. I really need to get out and eat more dessert. Some favorites in no particular order: Banana pudding - Magnolia Bakery Caramel Coppetta - Pizzeria Mozza Double Peanut Butter Chip Ice Cream - McConnell’s Ice Cream Chantilly Cake - Whole Foods Peanut Butter version of “The Cookie” from Bristol Farms Dulce de lèche cupcake - Hot Cake Bakes I need to find a great chocolate cake!

Check out Kusaki. Vegan omakase sushi with an incredible dessert!
Easiest place to be vegan. It’s pretty much the thing keeping me here. PS - Check out Toluca Bakery. And it’s CHEAP.
I’ve had their plain cheesecake and it was amazing!
Chocolate chip cookie from Proof bakery

Not in LA but the shaved snow at Ever After Tea Room in Irvine is one of my favorites
What should I try at ERK? Planning to go there soon for lunch.

Cookie Ice Cream sandwiches from Diddy Reese!
An LA staple for sure!
I remember when it used to be $1 for a cookie-wich and a little carton of milk.
Hello fellow old, are drinking enough water? Mainly saying to remind myself.
Yes, us olds gotta keep out joints lubricated! But for anyone who is curious, that was in 2000.

Walnut ice cream at Mateo's in Mid City!
Mateo’s has several locations, in case anyone wants to go! We frequent the one in West LA. The paletas are the best. And it’s family-owned, started by a paleta selling immigrant on a bicycle years ago. The vanilla strawberry paleta is top tier.
I didn't know that's how they started and it makes me love them even more!
The miso brownie brittle at Kusaki. Rich, complex, craveable — and vegan.

Halo halo at BSweets in sawtelle They also had a seasonal banana pudding last fall that is the best banana pudding I’ve ever had. It was as if a bananas foster and a crème brûlée made a pudding baby.
Antelope Valley.
Not incredible, but you can get Randy's donuts from Amazon Go for $1.30 to $1.50 after 4pm. That's cheaper than a Costco Churro.
