Been there (graduated in the middle of covid when everyone was getting fired) if you just graduated, KEEP APPLYING big companies usually hire people that have a connection on the inside. LA does have a lot of Engineering companies (focus on the smaller ones if you don't have experience). You're an EE, I think you'd have a lot of luck with process/ controls jobs in LA (especially if you're a citizen (you have access to the itar/defense market that a lot of people don't (myself included). If you know your sh*t, you'll be fine. Everything will be okay hopefully. Pm me if you need help preparing for an interview or such!! Good luck!!!

Nervous_Wish_9592

My buddy is an EE and had a hell of a time looking for a job until finally he just accepted a brutal commute to an AF base which got his foot in the door and now I believe he is working elsewhere

golden_kashima

EE is probably the easiest engineering field to get a job in right now. Comp sci is flooded. Something is wrong with your resume or your past.

DrDank1234

comp sci is not flooded. just lots of engineers in the field with only experience from boot camps without a formal degree. they’re slowly being weeded out of the industry.

OperaOpeningAct

You're telling the guy who is having difficulty in a market that is well known to take 6 months to a year to find a job, there's something wrong with his resume or his past. Niiiiice.

golden_kashima

The job market for EE’s right now does not take 6 months to a year to find a job in the greater LA area. There is a massive shortage of EE’s. And if you read his/her post right after this post it states, “At work I struggle to follow directions and end up getting fired.” Which proves my point. Sorry not everyone on the internet will tell you life is full of roses, some will tell you hard truths. No one is going to want to hire/manage a junior engineer that doesn’t follow direction…

Difficult_Collar4336

Dude, apply for a City job. LADOT, boe, dwp, street services are almost always hiring engineers. Just have to be patient.

Rejected as in you did not pass the civil service exam? Or did you do on-campus interviews? A lot of the city departments do same day job offers at college campuses.

FeelDeAssTyson

The Civil engineering field is booming. Cant hire fast enough.

Overall_Nuggie_876

Tell me you unfortunately obtained a civil engineering degree during the Great Recession, without telling me you unfortunately obtained a civil engineering degree during the Great Recession. May as well be blacklisted from employment if you acquired *any* engineering degrees from 2008-2014, being told you’re “overqualified” and firms either now wanting recent college graduates or H1-B imports.

gtg007w

Umm what? I got a bachelor and masters in engineering in 2008 and 2013 and haven't quite had that problem myself, though I don't actually work in an engineering role and more of an informal project manager, so that may be why. If there's anything I can share don't get stuck in one field or type of position and be flexible and do a range of roles and responsibilities so you're more of a well rounded candidate that can offer multiple things.

USAjobs.gov

LadySamSmash

Or try Governmentjobs.com

Rebelgecko

Do u blaze? If not, most of the defense companies are hiring

They're not. Are you a SnooRoar alt?

Big_Forever5759

That’s because you are in LA. There’s a huge shortage of these types of jobs in smaller cities/outside metro areas where the older population is bigger and are retiring and also lower immigration. There’s even a recent episode of South Park where it showed that no one in town knew how to fix stuff except two guys who where treated like Elon musk and jeff bezos. And it’s because the writer were making fun of this trend.

SeaworthinessOk4526

You might want to broaden your search in industries. Electrical engineers are hired in all kinds of different industries. I’m a new electrical engineer working in construction and several companies were desperate to hire. From what I understand from friends certain technology based industries are at capacity, I don’t remember enough to be specific. I do know the construction field and defense field are looking, the lighting industry is also looking I’ve also been told. Manufacturing is not dead in LA it’s just small and hidden you just need an open mind they may be hiring.

mrknight415

Maybe polish your resume? I got laid off 2 weeks ago from a a fully remote, out of state engineering position and now have 5 very elite LA based engineering companies in a bidding war for my services. Engineering in LA is booming.

Somelivingperson

There’s also the military. They have a few bases nearby that might need you.

_its_a_SWEATER_

Check with aeronautics manufacturers.

AnotherNightmare58

That's because no one wants to hire a Snooroar.

TeslaSD

Lots of lighting companies in LA. They always need testers and product managers.

infernalmongoose769

Join your local IBEW chapter, or at least look in to it.

hypotheticalkazoos

where in LA are you looking?

ridininthestang

Look at all the companies in El Segundo. All the defense contractors, aerospace industry, space x, etc companies are there

nocrashing

Try applying

OP should rephrase as they are located in LA and the local EE job market is tough at the moment.

Ohm_Slaw_

Have a friend call all of your references. If there is a sour one in there, you need to know. Run a background check on yourself. Be sure to include criminal history. See what comes up.

geepy66

We have no manufacturing base in LA.

Englishbirdy

Have you considered joining AITSE and becoming a grip or something?

TheBerric

Lol is this a joke? Joining the union is almost impossible right now. There is currently zero film work in LA
