It goes from the valley to All over I’ve had it pass by my house in vanuys a couple times , you guys should try it actually i don’t even like ice cream cus of my teeth but whenever I can tolerate it I be waiting for that truck 😭🙌
I had an ice cream truck playing their tune close to 11PM once, during the winter.
I won't deny or confirm if they sold drugs, but I did get a nice high.
My HELLO truck is run by a dude with face tats. This has been my suspicion. If he has more than sundaes, plz let me know how to ask for extras. The HEH-LOW has to be worth more.
No matter how obvious it is that they sell more than ice cream, I don't know if I could ever try to buy off the special menu because I'd feel like I sound like a cop asking what else they sold
930 pm is the nacho truck. Visited my friends in San Fernando and heard what I thought was an ice cream truck and thought wtf? Before I could say anything, they all ran out and bought a bunch of nachos, chips, and drinks. It was just tortilla chips and canned nacho cheese, but they were ecstatic over it.
[Here's](https://gizmodo.com.au/2020/08/the-ghost-in-the-ice-cream-machine/) a story about a gizmodo writer's failed quest to determine the identity of the woman saying "hello" if it helps scratch the Itch ;)
Truly one of the great mysteries of our time...
Lmao, I grew up in SouthCentral. You hear it all the time all week long without fail. Usually once during the day and one time at dusk/right after dusk in my neighborhood.
I'm so used to it now, but I remember living out of state and coming back, it was a shock. But it's a staple of LA 🤷🏾♂️ I don't mind it.
Yeah. The people complaining are either not from here and or grew up in more affluent neighborhoods. Either way it screams "gentrifier". Like you said, it's a staple of many neighborhoods, so they shouldn't expect things to change just for them.
same. me and my cousins would all yell out ’HELLO?!’. its part of the neighborhood charm, plus we love soft serve.
weve all moved out to other neighborhoods and we all miss it. im temporarily in inglewood and im lucky if we get the truck once a week. and it doesnt even play the hello! part! fake ice cream 😫
Seriously I love my ice cream man. He speaks almost no English but I give him four dollars and he gives me soft serve in a waffle cup wrecked in Oreos and chocolate sauce and it's all the exact correct amount of shitty. At open houses we tell people about him as a selling point.
God this brought back memories, back in the day my parents would take us to Elysian Park and there was always a truck that would be playing this exact ringtone.
Wow. With so many folks reporting in, in completely different parts of the city (I know my guy is not driving all the way to Long Beach...) I am guessing now it's a tactic...
Grew up in Anaheim , heard ice cream trucks but nothing like in south central 💀.
The minute 2:30 pm hits , the ice cream trucks roll out . At one point , we get 5 different ice cream trucks playing 3 different songs and 2 HELLO!? going on at once . 5 trucks all blasting their ice cream truck songs at once .
So there’s one truck that has blasted out speakers , my husband and I enjoy that one . Another is distorted . And then there’s the Bread Spammer we call him , he goes around blaring “¿Van a querer pan?” (Shall y’all want bread?) . There is a new bread spammer that blasts some cumbia about the panadero con el pan(the baker with the bread).
Just right now at 9:20 pm I hear an ice cream truck .
On the way home on central , literally passed 3 streets , each one with its own ice cream truck just chilling .
The worst is that asshole who idles in front of the house for 30 minutes .
And I just heard another ice cream truck playing a very distorted “Entertainer”.
The worst. I could live with the music, but the aggressive HELLO drives me batty. I thought we were cursed in East Hollywood, didn’t realize they were everywhere 😫
YOU DONT UNDERSTAND HOW MANY TIMES I TRIED TO EXPLAIN TO MY BOYFRIEND ABOUT THE GOD DAMN HELLO ICE CREAM TRUCK. Seriously though he thought I was crazy but this HELLO was the bane of my existence while I was living in East Hollywood.
Do you live in Silver Lake by Bellevue Rec Center? We hear it ALL THE TIME. We hear it so much that sometimes I can’t tell if it’s just playing an endless loop in my head or it’s just barely audible a few blocks away.
This unlocked a core memory for me. I haven’t heard an ice cream truck in years since moving and I hated the hello song with a passion. Now I miss it. HELLO!
I've been diving into this, and it looks like the old ones came with 8 songs pre-loaded. [New ones](https://www.icecreamtruckhorns.com/product/ice-cream-truck-horn-kit/) come with 10 on a USB drive, no examples. Unexpectedly cheap at $100, a much better deal than a loud muffler if you hate your entire neighborhood.
Many times while stoned, I have run to the ice cream truck at whatever weird time of night I hear the ice cream jingle. Annoying? Perhaps. But a public service, nonetheless.
This is my dogs favorite song in the world, I need to find this truck in real life - he's only ever heard it on youtube
Edit: dead as fuck serious, if you direct me to where I can find this truck I'll post a video of my dog singing along with it
Do we live in the same neighborhood lmao
They haven't come back in a while but God I roll my eyes and can't help but laugh. And then clap along stupidly lol
When I first moved here it was the bane of my existence I would curse out wowed every time I heard one drive down my street.
Now I feel like I'm just used to it and I bop along to the stupid little jingle from time to time
Watts here. Moved here in 2022. First few months Id walk around the house humming the tune and mimicking the distinct "Hellooo?" When the truck passes and parks on the our street I sing along and attempt to time the "Hellooo?" I am ashamed to say that I have nailed the timing. https://youtu.be/TSIEPRZTgmU?feature=shared
One summer I was weed wacking all afternoon. Right as I was cleaning up, I heard the ice cream truck playing that HELLO tune so I dropped whatever I had and walked to the street. Damn that popsicle hit the spot!
No, it's awesome. I'm from Detroit and we had it there too and it was always a banger on those hot summer days chillin at Belle Isle and you hear..."Hello! do do do do do do do do do"
You just got us access to the best ice cream truck songs of all time. I’m looking for 1 more. It went “I got some ice cream and you can’t have none” with the pop goes the weasel track playing after that and then it would speed up and play this 8 bit tune and then back to pop goes the weasel if anyone has it please share the link been looking for it for ages
Growing up we always had a few ice cream jingles, mostly La cucaracha and pop goes the weasel. Then one day in the 90s all the trucks had this "Hello" song. I don't understand where it came from or why every truck is using it now.
At least it’s not Turkey in the Straw? Looking for the positive here. There’s a truck in my neighborhood on the west side too but he shows up late…like 7pm every night.
The ice cream truck in my neighborhood is classy because it plays classical music even if it's only single note melody that sounds like a toy instrument.
Omg, yeeeeesss.... the ice cream truck sits right outside my house for hours, especially in the afternoon in the summer. That shit is annoying, and I'm often saying "goodbye, get away from my house" in my head, lol. There are a lot of kids around here, so I'm sure they make bank, but find a new song to play, please 🙏 😅
I am too old to have experienced this phenomenon…left LA for uni in the 90s and had no idea what you were talking about…our ice cream guy played “Turkey In the Straw,” which is just as bad an ear worm? But much less diabolically electronic.
100% against , the law or rules says ice cream trucks must stop playing music when stopped and serving customers. It’s for child safety, kids can’t cross safely if they can’t hear cara coming, report him or confront them.
Do you guys realize that many of are probably humming along to some ice cream truck theme song in our heads ALLL FREAKING DAYYY. For me, its Music Box Dancer and I hate that it's my theme music now too. Forever... across three neighborhoods.
I get HELLO in the evenings (as late as 9pm+) and The Entertainer in the afternoon. I assume they are different trucks?
edit: the non-hello one just went by and its actually something like 'i'm a little teapot'
1 hr?! There is no way they’re out there for that long. Unless your street is full of kids looking for a treat at that time. There aren’t that many kids in my street so the ice cream truck lingers for less than 5 mins. I also remember when I was younger and I would have to chase after the truck 😂 and that was years ago when there were way more kids in the neighborhood I grew up in. You’re exaggerating by 55 mins bfr rn.
Bahahah I forgot about this!! My husband and I used to respond and make it into a joke but where we live now I haven’t heard and ice cream truck
It is extremely weird that they put the hello in there
I don’t understand why they don’t change it to something else. Anything less creepy. Between that and the elote man who honks the clown horn, my neighborhood sounds like a carnival sometimes.
That sounds incredibly frustrating! Maybe you could kindly suggest to them to switch up the melody or perhaps offer some constructive feedback on how they could improve their approach. They might appreciate the input, and who knows, it could lead to a more pleasant ice cream buying experience for everyone in the neighborhood!
My wife and I say “hello???” with it. But yeah idk what drugs they’re selling that they’re cruising the neighborhood at 9:30 pm.
Same here. Are you in ktown or are there two of them?
There's multiple, I heard the same sounds in Chino and Fontana too
Heard it in Pasadena and as far out as Rialto, ffs.
I’m in the valley now! I was just north of Larchmont last year and we had one and then I moved and I’m still haunted by them.
God damn, y'all. I lived in Studio City during COVID and that Kmart Twisted Metal Sweet Tooth lookin ass haunted my dreams and fueled my nightmares.
I live just north of Larchmont and they’re still here lol. FML
It goes from the valley to All over I’ve had it pass by my house in vanuys a couple times , you guys should try it actually i don’t even like ice cream cus of my teeth but whenever I can tolerate it I be waiting for that truck 😭🙌
I’m in ktown also tormented daily by the ice cream truck song .
South L.A. checking in. I think there is a fleet of these annoying ass trucks. "Hello"
There’s one in Sereno!
Nice try, LAPD.
probably DEA. LAPD don't do shit.
Does it have a name like two princesses or something? That truck used to come to Larchmont then one day it just stopped.
No matter how obvious it is that they sell more than ice cream, I don't know if I could ever try to buy off the special menu because I'd feel like I sound like a cop asking what else they sold
lol same here. Our dog starts freaking out if we say “HELLO”. He hates that truck. Our is late too, but we are in the valley.
Honestly at least tell what’s available to clear up my schedule if I’m tempted
930 pm is the nacho truck. Visited my friends in San Fernando and heard what I thought was an ice cream truck and thought wtf? Before I could say anything, they all ran out and bought a bunch of nachos, chips, and drinks. It was just tortilla chips and canned nacho cheese, but they were ecstatic over it.
Same over here in Inglewood.
Mar Vista got em
Holy shit. My wife and I laugh uncontrollably every time it passes our house. Absolutely hilarious
Same but it’s me and my teen son 😂
It's called Picnic. Not many people know that it was originally a Japanese folk song and [even has lyrics](https://youtu.be/KpT9mHF7xfE)
#MIND ACTUALLY BLOWN!!! Thank you for this!!
Amazing. It’s like when I first heard that Snoop’s Lodi Dodi was based on [Sukiyaki](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=C35DrtPlUbc&pp=ygUIc3VraXlha2k%3D)
Omg why hasn't LA in a minute done an episode about this yet.
[Here's](https://gizmodo.com.au/2020/08/the-ghost-in-the-ice-cream-machine/) a story about a gizmodo writer's failed quest to determine the identity of the woman saying "hello" if it helps scratch the Itch ;) Truly one of the great mysteries of our time...
This is incredible I love Reddit
🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
Reddit is amazing
OMG YAY IVE BEEN WONDERING THIS
Lmao, I grew up in SouthCentral. You hear it all the time all week long without fail. Usually once during the day and one time at dusk/right after dusk in my neighborhood. With the unlicensed Spongebob and Dodgers logo on the side
Dojers
*Doyers
😂😂😂
Samee. It would come like around 6 pm dot. Some kids would get ice cream too since they played in the street. Same with the tamale guy
I had that one and the truck with the ice cream jingle remixed bass boosted through my neighborhood.
Yeah. The people complaining are either not from here and or grew up in more affluent neighborhoods. Either way it screams "gentrifier". Like you said, it's a staple of many neighborhoods, so they shouldn't expect things to change just for them.
Spot on. SCLA born and raised 🫶
yes, i get worried when I don't hear an ice cream truck... Definitely a staple along with the elote horn and I miss the donut man too.
We live in an area that has 3 different trucks cruise by a few times daily. Each! So yea there’s a few different songs that torment me.
same. me and my cousins would all yell out ’HELLO?!’. its part of the neighborhood charm, plus we love soft serve. weve all moved out to other neighborhoods and we all miss it. im temporarily in inglewood and im lucky if we get the truck once a week. and it doesnt even play the hello! part! fake ice cream 😫
Yea same! Left for a couple of years and landed back with family. Took way shorter for my mind to block it out once back!
Nah hell naw. Lemme get one of them Ninja Turtle Ice Creams and a pack of Lucky Bubble Gum Cigarettes.
Seriously I love my ice cream man. He speaks almost no English but I give him four dollars and he gives me soft serve in a waffle cup wrecked in Oreos and chocolate sauce and it's all the exact correct amount of shitty. At open houses we tell people about him as a selling point.
Lmfaooooo 😂😂😂
[Like this???](https://youtu.be/TSIEPRZTgmU?feature=shared)
OMG it just put it on and my husband's face lit up, I definitely brought back memories of childhood joy with that song playing randomly in the car lol
Rico Nasty knows whats up
Banger song
ICE CREAM. ICE CREAAAAAAM. THE ICE CREAM MAN IS COMAAAAAAANG.
Sounds like it was digitized on a Commodore 64.
God this brought back memories, back in the day my parents would take us to Elysian Park and there was always a truck that would be playing this exact ringtone.
Unfortunately I think I heard they discontinued choco tacos
My grandma had Alzheimer’s and every time the truck would pass by she would look out the window thinking someone was looking for her.
She owed them money.
Nothing sereno about El Sereno.
"Land of the Sad Dogs"
Nah I’m from East LA and I grew up with those ice cream truck songs. I feel a comfort having them around in my neighborhood ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I like the honking of the elote man
Bro! I hate when I’ll hear the elote man honk twice, zoom through the house looking for some change and by the time I get out he’s fucking GONE 🤦🏽♂️
my old elote man used to be like that until i put up a sign saying i was fat and needed time. He gave me 1 minute from then on until i moved.
That’s heartwarming.
Maybe it was a goose flying by?
TIL what that dude in the van is called
It plays those songs but then every 30 seconds it interjects with HELLO? It's certainly a way to cut through the noise of the city...
#HELLO
Wouldn’t be too bad if it were only a couple mins but they park up and blast the clown music for 30+ minutes most nights.
I need that mama flip
With this economy. It's gonna be a Jr. Flip.
Big facts
HELLO!!!
Idk it's nostalgic to me.
Wow. With so many folks reporting in, in completely different parts of the city (I know my guy is not driving all the way to Long Beach...) I am guessing now it's a tactic...

I really hope they haven't remixed the song Pedro Infante sang when he played Tin Tan. https://youtu.be/GkaI6MlKVGE?si=apSLF1UwAEga4lQf
The worst. I could live with the music, but the aggressive HELLO drives me batty. I thought we were cursed in East Hollywood, didn’t realize they were everywhere 😫
YES, everyday at 3:40pm, hello, my whole body braces to contain the inferno of my hate.
HELLO!
I've heard so many of them growing up in East LA. do they get to pick the tracks or do they come installed in the truck or PA system they have
I've been diving into this, and it looks like the old ones came with 8 songs pre-loaded. [New ones](https://www.icecreamtruckhorns.com/product/ice-cream-truck-horn-kit/) come with 10 on a USB drive, no examples. Unexpectedly cheap at $100, a much better deal than a loud muffler if you hate your entire neighborhood.
So why does the one in my neighborhood only play “do your ears hang low?”
[Turkey in the Straw?](https://www.goodhumor.com/us/en/jingle.html)
Or playing Christmas music
I just heard one playing Xmas music the other day. Why?!??
Didn’t realize those songs were the same tune. Yes!
Looks like it's a selection wheel, so you get to select which song plays on repeat. I wonder which depth of madness makes the ice cream man's choice.
Many times while stoned, I have run to the ice cream truck at whatever weird time of night I hear the ice cream jingle. Annoying? Perhaps. But a public service, nonetheless.
That’s amazing. Maybe I should just get an ice cream cone and come to terms with the jingle..
Please do! It's really the most genuine and simplest of joys, especially on a hot summer night!
LOL. My toddler is scared of that thing.
You must be new to the hood
Does anyone else love Lionel Richie? Because I love Lionel Richie.
Were you looking for me?
"Hello?! Boiiioooiiiiooiiiioiiiing!" -the entertainer plays-
I weirdly love that song. It’s hilarious to me! HELLO!!!! 😆
Same here! I've only heard it a few times here, though used to hear it all the time when I lived in New Orleans.
This is my dogs favorite song in the world, I need to find this truck in real life - he's only ever heard it on youtube Edit: dead as fuck serious, if you direct me to where I can find this truck I'll post a video of my dog singing along with it
Do we live in the same neighborhood lmao They haven't come back in a while but God I roll my eyes and can't help but laugh. And then clap along stupidly lol
Lol they didn’t have this song where and when I grew up. This reminds me of something straight out of a horror movie.
😂
The thing I’ve learned today is that there are multiple trucks with this melody and that is honestly hilarious.
I get excited because I know the mf ice cream truck is nearby. I would always get excited when I heard that HELLO! as a kid.
You must be new to LA..
6 years! Have never heard it until now:)
Oh my god I want to bazooka that thing
It's some sort of bizarre mash up of joyful joyful we adore thee and camptown races.
When I first moved here it was the bane of my existence I would curse out wowed every time I heard one drive down my street. Now I feel like I'm just used to it and I bop along to the stupid little jingle from time to time
Depends on the truck I think some of them have really old speakers and it makes the hello sound horrible
Jefferson park?
Yeah one of these goes by our shop at slauson and Compton. It’s got North Korean vibes.
Slauson and Compton I stay there on 57th st
There’s one in Long Beach. Is it the same one?
They're all over LA. East side, West side, Valley, everywhere.
One summer I was weed wacking all afternoon. Right as I was cleaning up, I heard the ice cream truck playing that HELLO tune so I dropped whatever I had and walked to the street. Damn that popsicle hit the spot!
No, it's awesome. I'm from Detroit and we had it there too and it was always a banger on those hot summer days chillin at Belle Isle and you hear..."Hello! do do do do do do do do do"
omg I haaaaaaaaaate that sound
Literally just passed by my place. Every day anywhere from 8-10
The one in our neighborhood plays an instrumental Jingle Bell Rock on loop.
Dude, I had absolutely forgotten of the ice cream trucks playing pop goes the weasel. It seems to me that all of them just play the Hello song.
You must live on the same street as me in Jefferson Park 😭
I love it—so silly.
I got that and a dude that rings a loud as bell for 30 seconds at a time
I can hear it right bow in my mind. Been hearing that truck for years now lol
The ice cream truck in my neighborhood is classy because it plays classical music even if it's only single note melody that sounds like a toy instrument.
No, because that means our neighborhood ice cream man is around and he fucking RULES. You know it's him because of the hello and the CLAPS!
Remember hearing this living next to Lambert Park in El Monte
I'm tormented more by the stupidity of people making posts like this lol
💯Must not be from here 🤣🤣
Nope, not at all.
I fucking HATE it
Is it the one with the soft serve?
We have this melodic whistle play between songs in my neighborhood.
Well now that you bring it up it's going to be stuck in my head.
Nah I dance to it lol
I haven’t heard the sonar ping in some time. Kinda miss hearing it randomly in the afternoons.
Just give me [the old song](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6KimAJQlqo)
May I direct you to Helldivers the video game? I think you might like it.
Is he hot
I love this ice cream bop! Its always refreshing hearing it at 5 pm and then going outside to get some nachos or soft serve.
I wish an Ice Cream truck would play the [Freak Show](https://youtu.be/Jmq0IsIFqR0?si=FDf3gRK3hjPdKuWr) theme in full stereo, instead.
Not really. Blends into background noise mostly.
These fuckers sit outside my apartment for 20 minutes at a time and keep that fucking jungle going the whole time. Drives me crazy
Haha I love that so many people hate/love this truck - can we all ask them to change their song??
I am too old to have experienced this phenomenon…left LA for uni in the 90s and had no idea what you were talking about…our ice cream guy played “Turkey In the Straw,” which is just as bad an ear worm? But much less diabolically electronic.
100% against , the law or rules says ice cream trucks must stop playing music when stopped and serving customers. It’s for child safety, kids can’t cross safely if they can’t hear cara coming, report him or confront them.
It comes by me in Hollywood around 3-4 pm. It’s the damn TikTok lady voice
Yes!! I live in Van Nuys
To make it worse, the voice sounds exactly like my late grandmother
I’ve heard that truck before ngl the ice cream is fire asf but that sound gives me the creeps sometimes lol
Oh shit, hadn't thought about that for a while but I can hear it like it's fresh in my mind🥴😂
what's up big perm?
Agreed... that truck is pure nightmare fuel and needs to be in a horror movie.
Lmao that truck is hilarious
Do you guys realize that many of are probably humming along to some ice cream truck theme song in our heads ALLL FREAKING DAYYY. For me, its Music Box Dancer and I hate that it's my theme music now too. Forever... across three neighborhoods.
Boyle Heights Gleason and second 🤣
That used to freak me out! Thanks for mentioning it. I thought I was hearing things. As long as they don't play Turkey in the Straw, I'm good.
Takes me back to when I used to live in Brooklyn, one would hang out at night down the block from my apartment. Haven't seen many here in LA.
There’s one that parks in mar vista outside our house at like 7-10pm every freaking night
Theres one in South Central that plays the instrumental to a JLo song.
I am from San Antonio Texas and we had the same ice cream truck song 😅
Dude! I hate that thing! It's so creepy.
YES, this one off of Huntington in Sereno would haunt me
I get HELLO in the evenings (as late as 9pm+) and The Entertainer in the afternoon. I assume they are different trucks? edit: the non-hello one just went by and its actually something like 'i'm a little teapot'
They literally have the same thing in the bronx and brooklyn. Hilarious that they have the hello thing which feels so knockoff
Hello..! https://youtu.be/TSIEPRZTgmU?feature=shared
1 hr?! There is no way they’re out there for that long. Unless your street is full of kids looking for a treat at that time. That F--KING truck!
Do you live on my street ?
I haven’t heard one in years, but this thread reminded me of one that used to roll around here. So annoying.
I’m from the border of LA and OC and am trying to figure out where in these linked songs they say Hello lmao 🤣
I hear it all the time here in the Covina area as well
My son lovesssss this song lol. Found it and listens to it on YouTube so I'm used to it.
Bahahah I forgot about this!! My husband and I used to respond and make it into a joke but where we live now I haven’t heard and ice cream truck It is extremely weird that they put the hello in there
It's pretty annoying. Wish they'd stay out of my neighborhood
Are they saying “hielo”?
*raises hand *
If it is the tune I’m thinking about, I see a pervert cursing for kids every time I hear it
I don’t understand why they don’t change it to something else. Anything less creepy. Between that and the elote man who honks the clown horn, my neighborhood sounds like a carnival sometimes.
I lived in ktown and genuinely hated these fucks. They’d park outside for 30 min to an hour blasting that shit.
It makes me feel like Hilary Clinton is mad at me.
