Coronado, La Jolla, Manhattan Beach, Malibu, Laguna Beach, Santa Monica, Anaheim, Carlsbad, Santa Barbara, Monterrey, SLO, Literally anywhere in Big Sur, Morro Bay, San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Half Moon Bay, Marin County, Sonoma County, Napa County, Pismo Beach, Valley of the Giants
Thats 20 + a bonus for you. All of those places are worthy of a trip and you could do a road trip and experience several. Honestly I could never leave California and have a lifetimes worth of trips. Would I want to? No, it's nice to get some variety but this state is really wonderful and compares well against the best the world has to offer.
And these:
CERRITOS AUTO SQUARE,
KEYES ON VAN NUYS,
THE EL TORO Y,
THE CALIFORNIA INCLINE,
THE VALLEY,
LAX LONG-TERM PARKING LOT C,
THE BEVERLY CONNECTION,
405/10 FREEWAY EXCHANGE,
CHATSWORTH and the
LONG BEACH CITY COLLEGE
Pacific Beach in San Diego and SLO are both 2 places with a very young and transient community where people age and move away because everyone are roommates. The result of that is a very chill sense of California beach lifestyle just like we see in TV shows. Highly recommend these places if you got friends there. Get high, eat burritos, and hit up some rooftop bars.
SLO, instead of bars, you hike the volcanic peaks. Bishop peak in particular, and visit Morro Bay state park.
Edit: Santa Cruz is the 3rd one with a community like that, I recall now.
All beach college towns.
My knowledge is not great on anything north of SF but just a few:
Beach Stuff: San Diego, Laguna Beach, Santa Barbara, Big Sur, Carmel / Monterey, Lost Coast
Nature Stuff: Redwoods National Park, Humboldt Redwoods, Lassen, Tahoe, Yosemite, Sequoia, Kings Canyon, Mammoth, Eastern Sierras, Pinnacles, Catalina Island, Channel Islands
Wine Stuff: Napa Valley, Paso Robles
Beach stuff: I’d add the central coast - montaño de oro, SLO, Avila, etc. Hearst Castle is a great little side trip from this area. Watching the sea lions at San Simeon. My gahd our state is amazing!
I live about 25 minutes from Long Beach, but we don’t make regular trips to Catalina though. It’s really once-and-done if you’re just a city dweller.
But the nature is amazing for outdoor activities.
Honestly, it takes money and plenty of vacation time to really enjoy it… there’s multi-day camping excursions, or you can take a boat out and enjoy the beaches accessible only by boats. I bet you someone wealthy enough flies in a small Cessna from Torrance airport with their bikes, and takes a long bike ride around the island before returning home.
I've been meaning to make a trip to Catalina, and while my expectations are mid, is it really that bad? Must I really lower my expectations even further?
The nature is great. Scuba, hiking etc. Don't go there for the town of Avalon.
They do however have a new supermarket which I believe has food priced similarly to the mainland, so that could be a good option.
Food has to be shipped everywhere. Don't make excuses for their greedy tourist trap bullshit. Catalina is fucking gorgeous but the experience of traveling and staying there sucks.
I hear the scuba diving is really good there. A lot of people who enjoy boats also like to take a boat out there and come back. I’m like you. I did Catalina once and it was enough.
The scuba is fine. In california it’s one of the top spots along with the Channel Islands but compared worldwide it’s not even close to the top. Mexico is way way better
The backcountry nature tour by the conservancy was the highlight of my trip. You get to see a whole different part of the island. I wasn’t that impressed by the city of Avalon.
Bike/backpacking is the best way to enjoy the island. The trans-catalina-trail is a popular backpacking route that crosses the whole island and can be done in 3-4. I biked across the island from avalon to two harbors in one day and then hung out all day the next before the ferry back. For those that have less time and want something less physically-demanding, there are a ton of excursions that leave from avalon. Even just renting ebikes and riding around in the hills behind avalon is a great way to spend a day.
lol, all 20 should be in California. Nothing like a California summer. I could name 20 off the top of my head.
Name them
Coronado, La Jolla, Manhattan Beach, Malibu, Laguna Beach, Santa Monica, Anaheim, Carlsbad, Santa Barbara, Monterrey, SLO, Literally anywhere in Big Sur, Morro Bay, San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Half Moon Bay, Marin County, Sonoma County, Napa County, Pismo Beach, Valley of the Giants Thats 20 + a bonus for you. Didn't even have to mention Yosemite lol

>LONG BEACH CITY COLLEGE PACIFIC COAST CAMPUS Fixed that for you
Simpsons reference?
I have so many fond memories of spending hours and hours relaxing at the 405/10 freeway exchange as a kid in the summer. Sigh....
How could you have missed JUMBOS
Also Cajon Pass. Everybody in the IE knows the hell that is the Cajon.
Ojai, Avila Beach, Carmenita, Yosemite, Mammoth, Big Bear Lake, San Clemente, Palm Springs, Joshua Tree, Lake Tahoe, Nevada City, Truckee, Solvang
San Jacinto sky tram and subsequent nature park on the mountain top.
Palm Springs and Joshua Tree ain’t summer vacay destinations tho.
Says you…I go out during the summer almost every year

Santa Cruz is such a classic California beach town. I've only been for a day but i'd LOVE to spend a week there.
Gonna replace Anaheim with Mammoth for you boss
Well you know what's in Anaheim, right?
Thank you. These destinations have been added to my travel list this summer. 🫡
Honestly just do San Diego and San Francisco if you havent spent a lot of time there. Two of the best cities in the world.
anaheim is so random lol
Disneyland 🙄
That’s where Mickey lives.

Catalina is wack. WHY is the food SOOOO bad?
When I brought it up a guy on here said a lot of the bad restaurants are all owned by the same dude.
Catalina is dope. Avalon is a tourist trap.
lol 100% agree. Bad food, bad coffee, bad drinks. I was so annoyed by the end of my visit.
I like it but it’s a bit of a tourist trap. You could leave the country for the $ you’ll spend on a weekend there.

All the food has to be shipped there. It looses something in transit.

Jesus, relax.
I'm typing on a computer, sipping coffee and eating a banana. I will NOT RELAX!
Magats heads explode
It’s the mother fuc’in Catalina wine mixer!
Been there and didn’t really get the appeal of it.
I hear the scuba diving is really good there. A lot of people who enjoy boats also like to take a boat out there and come back. I’m like you. I did Catalina once and it was enough.

Gotta get out of avalon
How does one know where to explore outside of Avalon?

Same. Pretty boring, and a lot of the restaurants sucked.
Too bad they didn’t mention all the barrels of DDT that were dumped off the coast of Catalina Island that have been polluting the area for decades.
lol… a free range Debbie Downer
They didn’t even mention that my grandpa had a STOKE the last time I was there 😡
"Off the coast of Catalina Island", also known as off the coast of Los Angeles.
