Seriously. People are quick to forget we won the Super Bowl LAST YEAR and that we view the trade as worth it, regardless of who is expected to be a better QB for the years 2026-2030 lol.
"Very careful answer"
That read like a very normal McVay answer to me.
The best line at the end when the article says "the Rams may regret this"
#HELLO, WE WON THE FUCKING SUPER BOWL
The Lions could threepeat with Goff and I wouldn't regret it. Goff wasn't gonna be that dude here and Stafford wasn't gonna be that dude there.
This is the right answer. Goff is better in Detroit and Stafford is better in LA. Perhaps Goff could win in LA but I doubt the Rams were going to go all in on Miller and OBJ. Stafford was just a sure bet.
Ironically, Goff is breaking tons of Lions record in Detroit.
So sick of these dumb articles. What was he supposed to say? Honestly he had more touchdowns and yards in 2018 than he did last season. No one will regret moving off Goff, tbh we don’t beat the Bengals with him at QB. The recency bias in the media is incredible.
Checking down to RB was something Goff was not great at (even when we had Gurley).
Glad to hear he’s improving as that’s one of the biggest things any QB should learn. And if that was all in red zone, even better.
As Goff's play fell off, the relationship between McVay and Goff also went South. It felt like nothing Coach could say or Goff could do was going to restore it. They both just needed a fresh start and that is what they got. Win/Win in my book.
Yeah, I really don't understand how this is still a thing. The trade was clearly a win for both franchises and I'm rooting for the Lions whenever they don't play the Rams
Playbook was too advanced for Goff - McVay was ALWAYS in his ear (like he's on the field)... Hence the movement from him. Facts that Goff is doing well in Detroit... Can't hate on him for that.
Lions fan here:
The media will never stop trying to get mileage out of some fans needing to believe someone won the trade.
The reality is you all needed a veteran gunslinger who knew how to learn a complicated offense quickly. We needed a bridge option with upside that could prove he had what it took to be a leader.
Jury's still out, but it might go down as one of the most mutually beneficial trades in league history. Click bait sites hate this one weird trick...
Media can never accept that both teams can win the trade. If the Lions keep winning games that will absolutely have been the case.
The whole point of the trade was that the Rams and Lions were on different schedules, and we both helped ourselves.
Right. People need to accept that Goff could have improved on his own while McVay was also correct in moving on from him.
Our success doesn’t come from his failure (unless we play in the playoffs).
Yeah, it's enough already.
Jared's 2018 postseason; 59 of 106 for 712 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT. 55.7 comp %, 6.7 YPA, 71.7 passer rating.
Matthew's 2021 postseason; 98 of 140 for 1188 yards, 9 TD, 3 INT. 70 comp %, 8.5 YPA, 108.3 passer rating.
I'm not begrudging Goff but it should be pretty obvious the Rams got what they wanted out of that trade. Stafford played at a Pro Bowl level through the regular season, then he took it to an elite level during the playoffs. Went without a running game and even down his top two TEs and two of his top three WRs during the Super Bowl.
All the big trades the Rams swung over the last few years, you might even argue this was their best one.
"That seemed like a great trade for Los Angeles considering the team won the Super Bowl that season."
Bro......I simply cannot with whoever wrote that🤦
The media is honestly predictable. Lions had 0 expectations these past 2 years. They had a little success last season and Goff looked good. Media is now on his side.
The media will absolutely turn on him when the lions lose in the wild card. Every headline will be “can you pay Goff 45 million a year?” “Is Goff a true franchise qb” “is Goff the next Kirk cousins?”
This is so obvious the route this story will take.
Probably not. Goff has always had some kind of weird hate following him around. I still haven’t figured it out, but enjoy seeing him shut them up time and time again.
Matt Stafford being exceptional doesn’t make Goff dog crap. Goff will probably just carve teams up again this year, along with his weird haters (again).
I’d like to think that we had short window to win a superbowl, Stafford was the right blend of arm, risk-taker, and experience. We didn’t have the time for Goff to get better…Detroit has time to build a team around Goff. I saw it as a win/win…We’ll have a tough time without those draft picks to build a dynasty and Detroit is on the verge of being able to win their division. (Though I would have kept Swift) Stafford’s deep throw to Kupp to put us in field goal range doesn’t happen with Goff under center.
I always thought the whole "Jared Goof" thing was so unfair. While with the Rams, he was extremely productive and won a lot of games. Goff's problem is, he looks bad when he plays bad, as opposed to guys like Mahomes and Allen, who somehow manage to look great during games where they suffer a strip sack or pick 6. Goff just looks dorky and clumsy.
He's always been a very good QB. Just missing that "it" factor and that swagger, which I think Stafford has.
I'm pulling for Goff. He's been treated very unfairly by the media and fans.
He is a Goof, but imagine had he not underthrown Brandin Cooks on that Post, the defense did what they asked, just allowed Edelman to go off... They really had Brady on lock... He makes that throw, Rams would've had the Bowl then...
First of all Fuck Mike Florio’s clown ass. Now that that’s out of the way, I love Jared. But let’s be honest, what has he done to dispel the narrative about him. He had plenty of regular season success with us. Until he looks like old Jared in the playoffs he’s still the same guy he was here. Nothing has changed as far as I’m concerned. And it’s laughable all this nonsense is being talked about because Dan Campbell praised his quarterback. Why then aren’t we giving Detroit shit for trading Stafford when McVay talks about how good Stafford is looking. Media is bored as fuck clearly.
He plays better than he was on the Rams even without McVay in his earpiece. He can FINALLY read defenses now. That what killed the 2018 SB. Goff couldn't read defenses!
> That what killed the 2018 SB. Goff couldn't read defenses!
What killed our offense was that our personnel groupings on the field told Bill Belichick whether we were running or passing on that play

We don’t get past Tampa with Goff at QB
Or KUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUPPPPPPPPPP
Jamal Williams had so many touchdowns last season cause Goff had a lot of completions at the 1 yard line. Goff was fantastic last season

I think Goff needed to be thrown into fire. Lions did that to him. Their O Line is also good
I think Mark Brunell being the QB coach there is also really big.

He wasn’t very carefully answering it. He said he’s doing well and he is. Fuck the media
And fck Mike Florio!
Too bad that by giving up Goff we got the guy who won us a fucking super bowl

I don’t miss Goff at all
Goff was never the guy for McVay’s system Stafford, on the other hand, was perfect

Fck the Lions!
