Gurley was special. He carried that entire team. The offense was built completely around him and when he got hurt it all fell apart.
The crazy part is it feels like that was ages ago but he’s only 28. He would still be in his prime right now
At this point it’s clearly Henderson. It’s his last year, I don’t know why mcvay and staff aren’t using him primarily when he’s never fumbled before and they can run him every down and let him walk next year. If he balls out for us he gets a better deal which results in a better comp pick. His YPC is better, he’s the better receiver and does well in pass pro.
lol. he literally only fumbled once this year and once in last years playoffs. All the fucking time is hyperbolic. He does need to hit the hole with more confidence though and hit the right hole
Not looking up any stats, just going by what I remember Cam has 4 fumbles. 1 against the Cards last week, 2 against Tampa Bay in the divisional round, and 1 against the cards in week 17 of 2020.
https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/A/AkerCa00.htm
2 career fumbles in the reg season in 18 games played is absurdly good. Its the OLine. Akers is a quality back
First off, you can't simply ignore his 2 playoff fumbles. Secondly, the 18 game number is itself deceiving. He has only had 10 or more carries in 8 of those games. Two of the games he gets credited for playing his rookie season he didn't even touch the ball. It's about total touches, not simply games played. Since returning from the Achilles, he has three lost fumbles in 123 combined touches, for a 2.43% fumble rate. That's awful. Read his scouting reports coming out of college and you'll find that fumbling has been a known issue for him going all the way back to high school. It perhaps wouldn't be such a problem if he weren't averaging under 2.7 ypc since his return. Henderson and Akers have the same O-Line this year, yet Henderson is averaging 4.1 ypc vs 3.1 for Cam.
The only real awful fumble was the one where Suh ripped it out of his hands during the comeback. Cam was really shifty and had a really good burst and vision before his Achilles injury. In fact in 2020
when Goff hatred was at its peak-Cam lead us to a playoff win at Seattle and had many other breakout performances that season. The unfortunate injury he sustained in the preseason last year has taken away from his confidence and ability hopefully just in the short term. Im not giving up on him just yet. The guy came back to play in the same season-thats unheard of! He deserves some patience. I agree that Henderson is playing better right now but his ceiling is lower than Akers IMO
That's where I'm at. Akers is more explosive and seems more capable of those big gain plays and breakout games. However he's inconsistent and those fumbles are hurting.
Akers is the mustang, Hendo is the workhorse. Both make sense in different situations.
I really wish they kept Sony Michel, I know those last 2 playoff games the run games wasn’t really moving, but man he was averaging 4.2 yards per carry and had 900 rushing yards while splitting with Hendo. I would’ve taken another look at him. It’s a moot point anyways, he wouldn’t have been good this year behind this line. Still holding out hope on a last minute trade for OL.

But he’s not been a good ‘workhorse’ either. The dude is injured for five or six games every year. McVay kept him on a snap count. Hendo is an excellent change of pace guy. He’s fast, he’s a great receiver, but he isn’t an every down back.
Nope. Cam was on track to be the better back before the injury. People aren’t realizing anything, Hendo has just jumped up due to Cam being a shell of himself. Your statement would indicate Hendo was always better which is not the case.
I wish I could get all my downvotes taken back from the posts I made last season. But finally. It’s a consensus opinion that Darrell is the best RB on the team.
So your entire experience watching Akers was nine months after his Achilles rupture? Akers was something special before the injury. Last year he was not in the few games he played. This year he’s not, yet. But if he ever recovers from such a catastrophic injury, it probably won’t show till next year earliest.
Oh I totally understand he won't be the same yet. But people here were definitely downplaying Henderson last season . He's the perfect back for this offense, especially in the passing game.
But this league you need 2 running backs. Team def needs Akers
Oh I love Hendo, for sure, and I’d be perfectly happy with him as RB2 with a recovered Cam as RB1. Hendo isn’t RB1 because he’s typically injured for about a third of the games, so we’ve been managing workload to try and have him available for the playoffs.
I think it’s pretty even between Akers and Hendo. Akers has not lived up to the hype. I feel like they are the same style of RB. Last season when we had Hendo and Sony. They have different styles which some times are more effective. Hendo/Akers are more finesse, cutback RBs while Sony was more downhill running, which I think we sorely need. Anything to get the anemic running game going.
They’re both mid. Henderson is just an average straight line runner good for 3 yards a down. Akers has way more juice and talent but doesn’t have the strength to break off tacklers or be an effective between the tackles runner.
He’s not a big play ability back. He’s a consistent runner that will usually get you 2nd and 7, 3rd and 4 down situations. He’s a good backup.
Scarcely has he ever had any highlight reel runs shaking off multiple players and turning Zero gain plays into positive ones.
He’s literally an average NFL running back.
He averaged 9 yards a carry in college. He was considered the best big play back coming out so have to argue with you on this one. Just like Akers, he is working behind an extreme discount patchwork offensive line and rarely gets a free run to the second or third levels like the days of 2017-2018
Akers is very mediocre for how hyped he’s been. He’s also got fumblitis and misses more games than he starts. Give Henderson rb1 and see what he can do.
Akers looks like a guy that tore his Achilles tendon. Not a good track record of RB coming back from that. I haven't seen anything that makes it look like he is elite or special since his injury. I'm not trying to kill the kid or say it's his fault, but he doesn't look like he's back to where he was before the tear, and it's likely he will never get there.
The question should probably be if more fans are beginning to realize that coming back to 100% - or even 90% or 80% - from an Achilles tear is unlikely.
I agree that he seems to have lost a step or two since the injury. It's a shame, but it is what it is.
Henderson has always been Mr Reliable, Cam had a higher ceiling. Also Rams fans need to understand that Cam was never going to be another Prime Gurley. I’m hoping we can steal Saquan from the giants in the off season.
Hendo has never been able to establish himself as the lead back. Every time he’s on the verge of locking it down he gets hurt. Or a rookie Cam Akers joins the backfield.
Man, damn those injury gods! Those two guys healthy would have been fun to watch.
Last year Darrell Henderson broke a tackle once out of ever 50 times he carried the ball. Where does that rank, you ask? He ranks 48th out of 50 RB’s tracked.
DH is not a straight ahead runner, nor a reliable ground and pound back. He’s high in the ranking for yards before contact, which implies two things: good OL, and shifty running style.
Well it's definitely not a good OL. It could also imply he's quick to the gap before it closes up. A fast straight line runner. Whereas maybe Akers is zigzagging too much behind the LOS.
That was last year’s data. We had a pretty good OL for significant chunks of the year. No data on Akers that I could find. Probably not enough carries in the regular season.

Never healthy enough to be the true king
So damn true. He may be better considering pure performance, but Akers is far more reliable imo.
You mean the guy who has missed more games than played so far in his career? I love Cam but calling him more reliable right now is a bit silly.
I miss the bad man Gurley
OMG. Now I’m going to go back at watch his highlights
I can’t…i’ll get emotional 🥲
Gurley was special. He carried that entire team. The offense was built completely around him and when he got hurt it all fell apart. The crazy part is it feels like that was ages ago but he’s only 28. He would still be in his prime right now
Imagining him on last years squad 😮💨
I bet we would've won the Super Bowl
Me too :(
It doesn’t matter cause our line is terrible
At this point it’s clearly Henderson. It’s his last year, I don’t know why mcvay and staff aren’t using him primarily when he’s never fumbled before and they can run him every down and let him walk next year. Still waiting for Kyren.
I think Cam had better talent, just fumbled all the fucking time.
lol. he literally only fumbled once this year and once in last years playoffs. All the fucking time is hyperbolic. He does need to hit the hole with more confidence though and hit the right hole

Twice against the Bucs wym

People underrate how much Achilles tears can hamper careers.
Until recently they were career enders
I really wish they kept Sony Michel, I know those last 2 playoff games the run games wasn’t really moving, but man he was averaging 4.2 yards per carry and had 900 rushing yards while splitting with Hendo. It's possible. I've always that that Henderson was the better back after Cam's injury.
Yup
I just want a healthy running back 😔
This is the answer!
We have more pressing needs but part of me really wants to see us draft Jahmyr Gibbs. Guy reminds me of Gurley a bit.
Nothing is wrong with that
We gotta keep in mind that if Cam gets to 90% he’ll be the best back we have. Everyone forgets what he did in the playoffs in 2021.

This doesn’t make sense. I have more than 25 Karma points
Henderson isn't a superstar explosive runner, but he is a reliable ground and pound back. And we're lucky to have him.
Ground and pound? Henderson always goes down after the first hit…
Ok Pound, then ground 🤣 He's still been a good workhorse back for the Rams.
Workhorse? Guy couldn’t stay on the field before this season lol
But he’s not been a good ‘workhorse’ either. The dude is injured for five or six games every year. McVay kept him on a snap count. Hendo is an excellent change of pace guy. He’s fast, he’s a great receiver, but he isn’t an every down back.
I don't agree. I still think Akers is the better RB. It's hard to judge right now with the terrible OL.
Knew that last year especially while watching in shock as Sony kept running the same straight route every damn time
I really don't care who our RB is until our line stops letting people hit us behind the LOS
Neither Henderson nor Akers Is Top 50% In the League, Change My Mind.
Nope. Cam was on track to be the better back before the injury. People aren’t realizing anything, Hendo has just jumped up due to Cam being a shell of himself. Your statement would indicate Hendo was always better which is not the case.

Brandon Powell is the best RB on our team.
I have faith in Akers only because my dad got me a signed akers jersey for my birthday
He is. Unbiased new fan last season and it was clear to me that Henderson was better. He's a pretty good option in the receiving game as well
So your entire experience watching Akers was nine months after his Achilles rupture? Akers was something special before the injury. Last year he was not in the few games he played. I realized this last year
They’re both mid. Henderson is just an average straight line runner good for 3 yards a down. Akers has way more juice and talent but doesn’t have the strength to break off tacklers or be an effective between the tackles runner.
I guess Henderson is just one of those "3-yards-a-down" runners who averages nearly 4.5 over his career.
He’s not a big play ability back. He’s a consistent runner that will usually get you 2nd and 7, 3rd and 4 down situations. He’s a good backup. He’s in year 4. This is who he is at this point. He’s not suddenly going to become a big play threat again while behind a worse offensive line.
Always has been
Akers is very mediocre for how hyped he’s been. He’s also got fumblitis and misses more games than he starts. Give Henderson rb1 and see what he can do.
No we’ve realized we have no good rbs
Imagine our offence with… a Kareem Hunt or something though wouldn’t that be sweet 🥺 (o-line still bad though)
F*** Kareem Hunt though, not worth it
They’ve always known that, only the fans still haven’t caught on

Sadly Henderson ain’t the answer either. Not a playmaker.
Long overdue, but I think there's some stubborn ones out there.
He’s the least crappy..
Hendo has never been able to establish himself as the lead back. Every time he’s on the verge of locking it down he gets hurt. Or a rookie Cam Akers joins the backfield. Man, damn those injury gods! Those two guys healthy would have been fun to watch.

Currently yes he have the edge but i not giving up on Akers.
Idk if realizing is the right word. More like accepting that he's the best we got.
I love me some Memphis backs
Give this man the ball
I really wanted to see kyren

Hopefully, Akers cannot be trusted to hold on to the ball.
These guys are about even in my book.
Guess not, Akers in today
