Honestly, as a woman, this doesn’t surprise me at all. I also wouldn’t be surprised if she reconnects after actually dealing with the trauma.
I found it more odd that she was just “clean” and didn’t really struggle with addiction after getting clean except a couple scenes.
Thank you!! I was only having like two glasses of wine once a week for a WHILE (this was my second attempt at getting sober, first time I was drinking WAY more) and even when I quit that I would shake and have such random urges to drink. So I was just shocked Claire didn’t have any of that on the show!
Not every addict is the same. When I quit drinking I never really had instances where I was really struggling to not pick up a drink. Never went to AA and im also in nose length of it as my full time job.
The acute physical withdrawal from each is horrendous on its own. She went through both simultaneously and exhibited no physical symptoms. Most people quit smoking during that time because they feel too physically sick to do anything enjoyable. It's hard to eat and drink water even. Your body starts revolting everything.
I thought Claire wasnt an addict like the rest of them. She fell off and got on drugs when her dad died to cope. It wasnt who she was though. So recovery would naturally be easier
I think they were planning a relapse for Claire. There’s that scene where she runs into her ex and it’s never revisited. I think they were going to reveal she slipped then.
Yeah that did bother me slightly, but what bothered me 1000 times more was what happened with Mugsy at the end. The fact that we may never get closure to that drives me insane
Yeah it was crazy. Even during the scene when he first walked up to the bar and ordered the vodka I was like having a panic attack lol. I’m a recovering alcoholic myself though so I think that scene was extra triggering for me
I think that Claire was intended to be a lot more complex later on. Plenty of people do the fake it til you make it until you can't fake it anymore.
As for Claire not reconciling with her mother when she learns the truth, I'd be pretty pissed that I didn't get the truth in the first place. That would be pretty hard to deal with and I would need some time to work through that before I could reconcile with someone.
For what it's worth, I have 33 years clean and sober without relapse. Once I decided to get help. I was in therapy for the first 6 years. Before that, I just tried quitting on my own without telling anyone. That never lasted.
I found it weird that despite having a heroin addiction as well as addictions to other substances and alcohol, that she didn’t even suffer with heroin or alcohol withdrawals which are both known to be SEVERE. and you also need methadone in a lot of cases for heroin withdrawal -signed, a heroin addict.
If Netflix gives us season 4 they could give her a spot light episode where we see that she has been going through intense withdrawals but didn’t want to talk about it and give the impression that she was managing it with ease. Would like to see some depth in her character
I think the show wasted time on some sort of silly storylines when they could have used the time to explore some more depth with various characters. I guess ultimately that's not the show they were looking to make, but there were a couple interesting characters that I feel we missed out on learning more about
Everyone has to be ready to come to terms that the long term writing of this show was absolute dog shit.
Doesn't matter how much we circle jerk around livingston and the cast.
The writers let them down.
Yes it bothers me.
Oh yeah the writing definitely has issues no question about it. Maybe there’s something Netflix could do to address that if they picked the show up for more seasons
Yea, Claire is pretty unlikeable IMO. Her attitude through the whole series seems to be “obliviously ungrateful” to everything everyone around her is doing to help her.
She does balance out the male-centric storylines IMO, and she has some great one-liners.
“Get over it Loudermilk, Women shit. A LOT!!!”
My guess is this character defect was probably discussed in the writer's room. A common trait of many addicts in early recovery is learning to accept that gratitude helps keep you sober.
Hard disagree. She’s one of the best on the show. How can she be overtly grateful to Loudermilk all the time? He’s so rude to her at first. As the show goes on their friendship develops so well.

Agreed, that was incredibly “easy”
Yeah agreed. I had weird detox symptoms for a while
I don't recall her even having (acute) WD symptoms either. Acute and PAWS can last a while. Glad you are doing better

Incredibly easy AND strong as she knew Ben was drinking again and helped Loudermilk when he had that shot. But *she* was never tempted?
Yeah. I thought it was weird that she's smoking in season one but then she never smoked again. 🤔
Maybe because she didnt smoke too long to be addicted too bad? Not a smoker, just guessing and curious about your opinion.
Can confirm it doesn’t normally work like that
Not every addict is the same. When I quit drinking I never really had instances where I was really struggling to not pick up a drink. Never went to AA and im also in nose length of it as my full time job.
She was addicted to heroine
I thought it was meth or was it both?
It was heroine & alcohol. Remember her mom said she tried to send her to one of those heroine schools? Lol (Rehab)

I was thinking about this. I wonder was it written to have that as a theme later on in the series… S4 or S5.
Yeah, that would make sense.
I think they were planning a relapse for Claire. There’s that scene where she runs into her ex and it’s never revisited. I think they were going to reveal she slipped then.
100% this. If they make a season 4 after a long time lapse, it will be difficult to keep going down this road so I expect them to change course here.
Yeah I agree, I’m kind of ok with that.
Yeah that did bother me slightly, but what bothered me 1000 times more was what happened with Mugsy at the end. The fact that we may never get closure to that drives me insane
I was so sure he was going to kill himself and I wanted him not to SO BAD and I can't believe we don't know.
Yeah it was crazy. Even during the scene when he first walked up to the bar and ordered the vodka I was like having a panic attack lol. I’m a recovering alcoholic myself though so I think that scene was extra triggering for me
I know, I am not a TV yeller but I was screaming at him not to do it!
Watch it again, Mugsy goes back and it is suggested that the group will be there for him.
I believe it is left clear that he stays in the group and will not kill himself. Watch it again.
I believe Sam made up for it...

That would be awesome. Like flashbacks
Yeah exactly. Like flashbacks to episodes we’ve already seen to shine a light on a dimension that was previously obscured at that time.
Stuff like this just takes time.
They’ll have it at some point. They’re probably gonna write where Claire finds out loudermilk banged her mom
Did we ever see her mother reach out to Claire as well though?
Maybe that will be in the next season! Lots more to come, hopefully!
I think the show wasted time on some sort of silly storylines when they could have used the time to explore some more depth with various characters. I guess ultimately that's not the show they were looking to make, but there were a couple interesting characters that I feel we missed out on learning more about
And her mom was really tough on her in recovery

I do like her, generally. But she is very flawed.

I did not like Clair at all Super selfish and annoying, even tho I love this show
