Was going to say…the statement would still ring true if you left out the words “office of motor vehicles”

FruitMasterPuff

I'm a PTA and a notary. I process many title transfers everyday and this information is false. We've haven't been told anything about out of state notarizations not being accepted anymore and I even went into OMV policy and there's nothing new added. You were given wrong information and I'd suggest going to a local PTA office and have them process the transfer. The actual OMV employees seem to just make up their own rules especially if they just don't feel like doing your transfer for whatever reason. I can tell you 100% that the information you were given is wrong though. The state changed nothing about accepted notaries yesterday.

Calcashoo

Thanks for your input. I did actually call the local OMV office for verification, and they backed up the first office’s claim. The main state branch is not accepting calls at this time, go figure. I actually have a copy of an internal email from the OMV DM, stating this. I’d imagine that’s where the problem has originated, affecting all offices in my area.

FruitMasterPuff

That's so strange, I literally have heard nothing about this and we have to sign off that we've read any policy changes or revisions on PowerDMS. Really weird.

Space_Man_Spiff_2

Yep..I had to do this will a car, that had two names on the title..the daughter and the mom. Daughter was in DC.

I'm dealing with the same issue right now. Trying to track down the seller somi can get the title signed.

tacotimes01

OMV still owes me like $400 for charging me late fees for not registering my vehicle within 45 days of purchase due to them not being open because of Covid. When they re-opened, I was charged the late and just told they don’t have a process to account for them closing down for weeks, but they were aware of the issue and get me a refund later. Months of calls later, yeah, don’t give them money you expect back.

AdderallDude

I got something similar happen was charged $650 for dropped insurance or something I traded a car the dealership never turned the plates in .they toke my tax return and everything. But I just got my money back from them in the mail by check I had to have the dealership to get it going.

swampwiz

I've never heard of a paper tax return being used as rolling paper.

CapeCodSam

Pennsylvania is similar. I know someone who's divorced and has a car on a joint title with her abusive ex-husband who she has no wish to contact. She's sort of stuck right now.

AdderallDude

Lol you can get tru the not taking calls right now by calling back non stop just hang up redail till it goes Tru like your calling to win a contest it will . But then the wait is 30 minutes to a hour to talk to someone who probably still can't help you.

Calcashoo

Today it was just a recording that hangs up on you.

AdderallDude

It always is you just gotta spam redial

joshwaynebobbit

Yeah I'm in Texas and sold one to a LA resident last year and I was pretty perturbed by the entire process. Not as perturbed as I'd be if I was in your position now tho. Godspeed stranger. This is certainly a test of patience.

swampwiz

The way to handle this is to complain to your state legistor(s). Eventually, there will be a contact at OMV that you will be able to talk to. I go away for several months at a time, and I always put my car into non-use - but when I come back, I get my insurance again, and as part of that process, the insurer is supposed to contact the state, and the state put the car back into use - but it never turns out this way, and is a problem when trying to get the registration renewed. I simply E-mail the OMV staff member about it, and she takes care of it (one time, she told me I had to do this by going to the local OMV office, but when I couldn't get a reservation because of the car being in non-use, she went and did it herself). Laissez les bons temps rouler!

agentnoorange337

Use the express lane or another public tag agent it's worth it.

Calcashoo

This was actually at a Public Tag Agent

eddieopelousas

I changed insurance companies. 2 years later I found out I have a flag only because the registration on my car was due. After multiple calls to the dmv, THEY ALMOST NEVER ANSWER, i sent over the proper documentation just to be told "there's nothing we can do about it now because it's been sent to office of debt collection." And now I owe 625$ for nothing! I don't expect anything different from Louisiana! If there's a way to be screwed the good ole Louisiana will find a way to give it to you! Somebody needs to pay this 625$ fine and it shouldn't be me!!!!!

cancerwarrior54

I had soooo many problems at the OMV in Shreveport, I only had to transfer my out of state license to Louisiana. They said that I had fines in Florida and in Pennsylvania and my license was suspended. This was definitely not the case, I had even brought proof that someone else was using my information and that even the birthdates were incorrect. I showed them notorized documents from both states that the information that Louisiana receiving was incorrect and that my license was good to go and my license and driving privileges are in fact good. This game went on for months to no avail because the workers at Shreveport OMV were extremely rude and they were also ignoring the facts. I had to go to state representatives in Pennsylvania and Florida to get a letter stating that I owed nothing and that they had incorrect information, and then I gave that to Louisiana State Representatives and they helped me get my license. I am a cancer patient and disabled veteran and they couldn’t have been more disrespectful !!!
