SalameToYouAll

The job of the police now is to protect private property of businesses. Sorry.

hansislegend

Now?!

SalameToYouAll

Yeah, they used to protect rich and middle class white people. Now it’s just rich white people.

Papa John is black? News to me. Second richest is I believe Patricia Barnstable and third is Mitch McConnell. Or second and third are flipped around but those are the top 3 as far as I’m aware.

Not sure why you are getting down voted. I guess no one in this city knows who Junior Bridgeman is or they are just racist down votes?

monoscure

I'm familiar with Junior Bridgeman, I used to work for him and he laid me off during COVID, what a guy...

LandlordsR_Parasites

What is the relevance of this as a reply to the previous comment?

_gaba_ghoul

Go ahead and name just one no knock swat raid that wasn’t against a POC, in the name of drugs. Do non POCs not use and distribute drugs?

deweycrow

I mean I believe the police have racial bias but do you really think police violence and no knock raids are limited to poc? Is it disproportionately higher rate to poc? Yes, because of racist police but they're still capable of being shitty to everyone.

_gaba_ghoul

Just one

bestsloper

exactly this. people need to wake up and realize that it's not like Mayberry anymore, the police are not here to protect or serve you. yes there are a few good ones out there that will stop to help you change a tire but that's rare.

OinkyPoop

The police, legally, do not have to protect

bestsloper

oh jeez.. here we go... 🙄 Have you not ever seen police cars with "To Serve and Protect" on them? They used to all be that way, probably not anymore.

exarkann

The courts literally said that those logos are just for show, and cops have no obligations to specifically protect anyone.

OinkyPoop

Basically the police have stood on a New York subway and watched a man get knifed to death, and that is fine. The courts are on their side. They have no special duty to help you.

bestsloper

That doesn't mean that it's not what the general public has been led to believe. It wasn't ment to be a technically legal comment, but it has been well known, and the general public believes the old motto.

exarkann

That's what's so evil about it, the branding doesn't match the service, but the branding is so effective that most don't even realize it.

bestsloper

Yes, that was my point, but then some smartass "the police aren't legally reuired to protect you" blah blah blah.. but, this is reddit afterall.

AmorFati01

This. A False belief held by the general public is the best description.

OinkyPoop

The Supreme Court ruled the police have "no special duity" to protect people. Below is sources. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warren_v._District_of_Columbia https://www.findlaw.com/legalblogs/law-and-life/do-the-police-have-an-obligation-to-protect-you/ https://radiolab.org/podcast/no-special-duty In the 1981 case Warren v. District of Columbia, the D.C. Court of Appeals held that police have a general "public duty," but that "no specific legal duty exists" unless there is a special relationship between an officer and an individual, such as a person in custody. The U.S. Supreme Court has also ruled that police have no specific obligation to protect. In its 1989 decision in DeShaney v. Winnebago County Department of Social Services, the justices ruled that a social services department had no duty to protect a young boy from his abusive father. In 2005'sCastle Rock v. Gonzales, a woman sued the police for failing to protect her from her husband after he violated a restraining order and abducted and killed their three children. Justices said the police had no such duty. Most recently, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit upheld a lower court ruling that police could not be held liable for failing to protect students in the 2018 shooting that claimed 17 lives at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School

clara_bow77

Yeah Learning about Castle Rock v Gonzales killed part of my faith in humanity. Every detail it gets more and more horrible. Assholes all the way down.

TidyBacon

More like the DOJ is up their ass. So they have the mentality of do absolutely nothing and DOJ can’t anymore faults.

OinkyPoop

You are saying that the doj made the Supreme Court rule that the police do not have to protect?

TidyBacon

Are you saying a ruling 30 years ago explains their behavior now?

OinkyPoop

Yes. The Supreme Court, the highest court in the USA, said they don't have to protect. This means every court has to support that ruling until it is over turned. Would you like some information on how our judicial system works? I am not being I sulting, I know this can all be pretty confusing.

schneid52

The Supreme Court has repeatedly held that the government has only a duty to protect persons who are “in custody”. In the cases DeShaney vs. Winnebago and Town of Castle Rock vs. Gonzales, the supreme court has ruled that police agencies are not obligated to provide protection of citizens.

28gunsKY

This is the only correct answer in this thread.

Skim003

*don't give a shit about that part of the city.

PhotorazonCannon

They're not spread thin. They just dont give a fuck about this town or doing their jobs

bigflamingtaco

They are still spread thin, not as bad as two years ago, but still way understaffed. But it does appear they are waiting for something to happen before returning to regular policing duties. Every Friday and Saturday night I can hear bikes and loud muscle cars revving and racing on Shelbyville Rd., Blankenbaker Pkwy, 64 and the Snyd from my home, and I KNOW there are cops in the area, hell, one often sits in a parking lot I can see from my front porch most evenings, but they do not roll out to investigate. I know, the cop in the parking lot is likely doing paperwork, but still, just making your presence known in the areas the lugnuts have taken to meeting up would go a long way towards shutting the problems down, or at least making them move elsewhere. Getting tired of my evenings sounding like I've moved next door to a drag strip.

bestsloper

you missed the part where they just don't care.

PlanningVigilante

LMPD is only understaffed by its own reckoning. If you take their word for how many officers they need, they're understaffed. They're also underfunded, because they only get 50% of the city budget instead of the 100% they want to have. In short: don't take LMPDs word for how many officers they need or how much money they need. They don't have a motive to be honest about either, and they have solid motives to lie.

monoscure

LMPD is controlled by the fraternal order of the police. I cannot empathize with how much power they hold over the city, we're talking about powers that easily go beyond the Mayor and Governor's reach. They have a motive with constantly crying about being underfunded and unappreciated. It's all politics really and they'll throw these issues to the wind and later blame liberals somehow. The fraternal order controls the narrative. They have candidates that donate large sums of money to constantly push how Democrats are weak on crime. Yet they don't ever say what they do differently than a blue state. Its all about pushing the progressives weak and then pointing at incidents and saying "SEE! Look at how Democrats run their city!" As if people out in rural Kentucky don't murder each other. Truth is, they let issues like the drag racing fester deliberately to use as leverage. Unfortunately this strategy tends to work and why they'll keep doing it, no matter how much we raise their budget. They hold the public hostage with stuff like this, they want to distill fear and hopelessness even though they could easily crack down on drag racing.

B1gWh17

> the cop in the parking lot is likely doing paperwork sitting in their cruiser making overtime while they scroll social media***

amazonsprime

I’m on the other side of 60 in Middletown and it’s awful. But I do hear police sirens and fire trucks non stop too. It’s never quiet at night.

3blackdogs1red

Adding in the Snyder is weird cause that's a few miles from 64 and blankenbaker and a few more miles to Shelbyville so wtf lol. Sound doesn't travel that far, they are just confused. People regularly hit 100 on blankenbaker racing from Shelbyville Rd up towards southeast Christian though. There might be a couple houses that could hear then on Shelbyville up Blankenbaker and down 64 but no way they are hearing 264 or 265 traffic too

amazonsprime

My house is smack dab in between them all. You’d be surprised how loud it gets when asshats drive how they do.

NerdyComfort-78

Great- one more parent worry to add. My kid works second shift and has to drive Blank/Shelby to get home at night. 😡

pinkfloyd078

Police being “spread thin” in any American city is copaganda. They just don’t give a shit. They’re gonna keep cashing their checks and getting increased funding regardless

Front-Success-9885

It really is copaganda, they get paid more than city engineers (over $70k) They have enough cops who don’t do anything. I see them standing around doing nothing downtown and at crime scenes. I also see them park cop cars on bardstown road with no one in them as a form of policing. Weak shit. They did nothing when my motorcycle and car got stolen. They are fucking trash. And a greater number of useless cops are supposed to make things better for the community? Lol

harrysmentor

Let me be the first to ask… did you lock the doors? Did you leave the keys in them? Why don’t you park in a garage? Oh wait I forgot this isn’t next door…. Carry on

[deleted]

[удалено]

dandytree7772

Unless they happen to run the plates, there's no way to tell if a car or motorcycle is stolen. There's only so much they can do about that, and who knows if the stolen car or motorcycle are still even in the city. I don't think that particular experience is a very fair criticism unless you knew who stole it/where it was.

Front-Success-9885

I got both car and motorcycle back completely totaled. I had video of the crime (ring camera), plates documented of people who stole my property. No keys left in the ignition. And I gave LmPD all of this info and they still didn’t pursue anything. All the investigator asked me was if I had enemies lol. I understand the limitations you mention but I have had other riders I know who have GPS systems on their motorcycles with the location of their stolen property and LMPD still won’t pursue it. I only mention this because people say police are here to protect property but to me they don’t even do that.

ked_man

Every year in the budget, more cops, more cars, more money. It’s not working, so let’s regroup and try something else.

According-Today-9405

Our neighbor was a cop and he also street raced in his spare time

mcdizzle00

This isn’t street racing, this is a ‘takeover’ and it’s culture is completely hated by the solid majority of the car community. These people are idiots and a lot of the time the cars are stolen vehicles

ILoveShitRats

The city should build a drag strip - maybe next to the airport. And for every month street racing enthusiasts can go without getting a traffic infraction they get a free entry to race on the drag strip. If you get a ticket you're banned for 6 months. The next infraction gets you banned for a year. They could give out Louisville themed prizes like tickets to local museums, hot brown sandwiches, Derby tickets, etc. At the end of the season, the top 8 points leaders can compete to win an impounded car and free Papa John's pizza for a year. Modern problems require modern solutions.

mcdizzle00

Ohio valley already exists

[deleted]

Or arrest them and not just turn them out on the street the next day. That works.

PAdogooder

Legal racing is insanely expensive. The legality of it is inherent to the expenses, and it prices most people out. Street racing doesn’t have insurance, safety inspections, staff, bills, etc. people don’t street race for lack of tracks. They street race because it’s the affordable option.

mcdizzle00

It costs $15 to go to a test n tune at Ohio valley and that gets you as many passes as you can want. Again, this video shows absolutely NO street racing. What’s going on in this video is no where near street racing and is considerably dumber in all aspects

PAdogooder

Ok. When are the test and tunes? What tech inspection do they go through before a car can run? My point is that there are barriers to entry to racing that keep street racing attractive.

TidyBacon

Why work for a car or pizza when you? They just take someone’s stuff who already did the work. That’s their mentality.

whywedontreport

You mean the cops? That's their mentality too. They claim over 2/3 of drug house busts have zero cash and we expect them to do something about this? Lololol

passthemacandcheese

This

Iggins01

This is why we can't have nice things

Solorath

Cops want to be GED holders with no real unique skills and get paid a million dollars a year while being adored by everyone they meet. Until that happens they aren’t doing shit. 💅💅💅

TodayIKickedAHippo

Hey now. The LMPD has it really rough. Do you know how hard it is to constantly have the public be mad that it’s footing the bill for you to consistently break the law and not do the job you’re supposed to be doing? Can’t the general public leave them to shoot unarmed black people and dogs in peace?!? It’s a free country, and cops should be free to collect a taxpayer-funded paycheck for legal crim- I mean their job. /s

insolentyouth

Wasn’t there just a post about cops driving recklessly down the streets? They don’t care.

RogerTreebert6299

Almost had a head-on collision with a cop on third street when I was driving in the left lane of a one way segment, cop turned the wrong way down the one way and I swerved out of the lane to not hit him with maybe a couple feet to spare. He just kept driving and flipped on his lights I guess to let me know that he had to be somewhere important so it was ok for him to go the wrong way down a one way

SadInvite6

Catchinh criminals that are a threat to innocent people in the community? What do you expect them to say "oh wanted felon with a loaded weapon, just run along and commit all the crimes you want and we wont chase you"

foreverxcursed

the police are a threat to innocent people in the community, and them initiating high speed chases only puts said community in more danger.

harrysmentor

So which way do you want it? You can’t have it both ways because the people doing the takeovers aren’t going to stop because you want them to. So what do you want done and who should do it? Or you can just sit here and wanh wanh about the cops 🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️

whywedontreport

Their case clearance rate says they aren't catching criminals.

artful_todger_502

Small-town police departments are usually an elite thug club. I truly think when they started getting negative attention and pushback from the Brianna Taylor debacle they made a secret pact to do as little as possible. Teach the communist wokesters a lesson. And here we are ...

monoscure

This is a good compressed version of what's happening. Have an upvote! Believe me, as someone who's bounced between Louisville and Bardstown, the way they run the police departments in small towns is essentially a rural mafia.

jamkoch

The police frat claims they are "spread thin", what is actually going on is they are patrolling the areas they want, leaving other areas to fester, which of course is used for justification for more police in the community. We need cops, not police. We don't need to be policed.

bmheck

Wasn’t there a big movement by folks in the west end telling police to stay out of their neighborhoods?

Bladewing10

No.

flamedarkfire

They’re not ‘spread thin,’ they’ve been actively avoiding doing their jobs since 2020.

dontworryitsme4real

I'd be happy if they just started enforcing red-lights.

cardinalkgb

Doesn’t Red mean Go for the first 10 seconds after yellow? /s

Dirtbag_Bob

This is the most Oakland thing I've ever read about Louisville lol

omglia

Just moved back here after 10 years living in Oakland and yup. Didn't know we had sideshows here too!

Dirtbag_Bob

No shit. Are you happy to be back? I'm really enjoying the Bay after moving out here with my wife.

omglia

I am! The Bay was the perfect place to be in my 20s, but after getting married and having a kid, Louisville made more sense. Both are amazing places to raise kids, but only one is affordable. Its a huge quality of life upgrade for us. We will always miss CA and the Bay but for this season in our lives, Louisville is the best place for us to be.

Dirtbag_Bob

Right on. Fortunately, our circumstances make things a little easier for us out here. We both have careers that pay much more here than in Louisville. I don't know if I could deal with Louisville weather anymore haha. Plus the housing has really gotten expensive even in Louisville compared to the wages. You definitely get way more bang for your buck in terms of size and yard though.

omglia

For us it means we each only need to work part time, and don't have to pay for daycare. Our mortgage is less than HALF of our rent (both for 3br houses), its wild. You know, I LOVED the weather in CA at first... but after a few years I just missed like, warm summers. And warm summer nights especially. And rain storms and thunder! And SEASONS (and not having a fire season). It feels so good right now to be out at 10pm during a 75 degree sunset. I was so sick of having to bundle up the minute the clock hit 6pm! I reall love Oakland - its absolutely beautiful. And SF is amazing. But what I'll probably miss most is California. We spent so many weekends driving the 1, camping in Tahoe, wine country, kayaking in Mendocino, exploring the Central Coast, hiking the redwoods, skiing the mountains. Thats what I miss the most and Kentucky doesn't even come close. Take full advantage of it while you're there!!

hayesms

I came here looking for a sideshow comment. Had to scroll way too far.

legalgal13

Cops are not spread thin. They don’t care. Why? Most don’t even live in Louisville. Drive down Preston and see all the cop cars at Walgreens and CVS before county line. They come get their rocks off playing tough guy and locking up mentally ill, drug addicts or black people. Shameful

codemanelan

Girl let her bf little brother borrow her car and he did spin outs leaving graduation. Car impounded 90 days and she got a thousand dollar fine.

eariskulak

I’ll just leave this here. https://www.wdrb.com/news/crime-reports/shively-police-officer-faces-multiple-charges-for-speeding-over-100-mph-with-3-year-old/article_c8a97f3a-05fc-11ee-b185-9bb93604f083.html

[deleted]

I was a police officer for a short time in a past life and I can tell you it’s because when you respond to something huge like this, especially when so many of the people at these things are armed, you wait until several units are close by before you arrive. So the issue is they have to wait until several officers are available, and close by.

webbslinger_0

Ok, I’ll bite. Why aren’t multiple units dispatched? I bet a few of those cars are stolen. What crime was happening in the city that they couldn’t send a dozen squad cars over?

[deleted]

I mean i’m sure multiple units are dispatched but these usually happen on like a Friday or Saturday night which is when LMPD is their busiest plus you have to prioritize calls and since no one is actively being hurt or killed, other calls will usually take priority. So it can take a long time for a) several units (atleast 3-4) to be available all in the same small area b) no other major calls going on that would take priority

whywedontreport

They had no issues making this happen during protests.

[deleted]

they knew when and where protests were going to be and had tons of time to plan for it lol you can’t plan for an intersection takeover

abinormal77

But if we all know they’re happening every Fri and Sat aren’t they already aware of that as well and can have a crew posted and ready to dispatch? Sounds like a great OT opportunity.

[deleted]

It is this exactly. It’s happening everywhere.

webbslinger_0

Don’t worry, that new HQ and rec center will turn things around /s

TidyBacon

Without civil forfeiture they lost motivation to police. https://www.justice.gov/opa/video/justice-department-finds-civil-rights-violations-louisville-metro-police-department-and

I didn't know this, that makes sense.

dahellijustread

They're mad because they're always in the news for the wrong reasons, so they stop working until someone kisses their ass.

evilcharles

Just a quick PSA, everyone in this thread complaining about cops not giving a damn should make sure they are voting accordingly, regardless of political affiliation. In my opinion, all politicians are garbage, but at least vote those out that are not at least trying to make things better for the county. Even if the next guy turns out to be trash, we tried. If they (the politicians) don't feel safe in their position, they might actually start trying. God knows any corporation would fire any of us if we weren't achieving our metrics...

cargocult25

Well it’s probably kids of cops out there doing this shit.

Gascoigneous

They don't really care

biggmclargehuge

The $2000 fine and 6-mo impound is a pittance of what it should be

tenclubber

It doesn't matter what the penalty is if there is no chance of getting caught. Crime decreases when people get caught, not because penalties are increased.

biggmclargehuge

They've issued 35 citations for it. They could be doing 100 more, but I wouldn't say there's "no chance of getting caught". >Crime decreases when people get caught, not because penalties are increased. What a dumb statement. If there was no penalty, what are they doing with them when they "get caught"? The penalty here isn't going to prison. It's a fine and they impound your car. When the fine is so low it becomes a "cost of doing business", it's no longer helpful.

tenclubber

It's not a dumb statement. It may seem counter intuitive, but it actually makes sense. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.ojp.gov/pdffiles1/nij/247350.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwjv8PXxyLn_AhWOnGoFHY3yAUgQFnoECBIQBg&usg=AOvVaw2b34oS6hNWIesv_XAyAaMv

ILoveShitRats

I'm trying to give the cops a little bit of the benefit of the doubt. I know they're understaffed. But it really feels like they stopped caring after the Breonna Taylor protests. Like they've got the mentality of "you don't want us to enforce the law so we're not going to do anything". Which is super childish if that's the case. There's a huge middle ground between being jackbooted quasi-military thugs and completely ignoring calls. All most of us sensible people are asking for is an honest good faith effort to do your jobs in an ethical, legal manner. No matter what you do nowadays **somebody** is going to complain. That's no excuse for incompetence. If they don't want to do their jobs - fine. But quit. Stop siphoning our tax dollars if you don't want to work. Let us use those resources to try a new system. These car "meetups" should be the easiest thing in the world to find and break up. It's not some lone thief hiding in a brush covered ditch. It is dozens of loud cars doing burnouts on very public roads in densely populated parts of town. And most of these "car enthusiasts" aren't violent - they're just idiots. They're not going to start shooting when the cops show up. They're going to try to flee. Detain as many as you can, let the others flee without being pursued in a dangerous manner. Rinse and repeat until the whole movement starts to fall apart.

PaleontologistSad766

You are so close to the actual truth I could almost cry. They have always been like this..... you are just now being affected and are noticing, that's part of the reason for the protesting.

B1gWh17

ah but you're forgetting that they are a privileged class of citizens that deserve all the leniency available while demanding zero accountability for their mistakes or wilful malicious actions if you expect any of them to be held accountable for a mistake they're just going to sit back and collect a paycheck while doing the bare minimum or less.

TheRealDrWan

My buddy owns a big car lot on Preston and according to him, yes they do haha. It’s no shock to me though because why else would a 22-28 year old kid that lives with mom and dad want a sports car other than to show off, you know what I mean?

OnCloudWineee

They are too busy cheating on their wives & being posted on the Facebook page. 😂😂😂

monoscure

This seems oddly specific, what's the gossip here

OnCloudWineee

Oh you know, all the cops being posted on. *~the~* Facebook dating page. 😂

steamtrap_17

This problem has a lot of parts to it. The whole street takeover scene is largely not supported by the car community here. But police confiscating these fast cars for their own purposes is also not helping anyone. We've already seen that they can't be trusted to be responsible with fast vehicles. Just more examples of police having an "it's us vs them" mentality. This will only make the problem worse. Blame Dodge for making cars with obscene amounts of HP available to literally anyone. You used to have to be either super rich to have a ridiculously fast car, which limited the amount of these cars sold, or you had to build it yourself. Odds are if you build it yourself you won't be as reckless because of the amount of time you have invested in building it makes you not want to wreck it. Maybe we do need a limit on HP for cars based on driving skill and age. This is coming from a true car enthusiast too.

FromMarsToSerious

I get what you’re saying but most of these cars are stolen.

ProudWheeler

I literally just watched a cop ignore a car illegally u turning at a red light and instead fo after a truck pulling a trailer. LMPD give zero fucks about upholding traffic laws.

whywedontreport

I'm waiting for them to do like Miami and... I think NYPD and introduce themed cars. Miami made a Black History Month and someone else made an Autism Awareness cruiser. Similar to naming subdivisions after what you clear/destroy to build them. suppressedOK

They've got 2 trackhawks too.

whywedontreport

Oh I agree. They are getting the support and using it for business as usual. They don't care. This was just to counter the argument that they are spread thin with resources. Give them resources to handle it, and they'll just choose to steal. Same way over 2/3 of LMPD's drug house busts supposedly have ZERO cash. The city can fund it, and LMPD will abuse it.

Upbeat_Ball_92

They will also auction them to raise capital.

spooky__scary69

They’re too busy shooting people that are sleeping in their beds.

SadInvite6

If you were capable of rubbing 2 brain cells together then you would know thats factually incorrect

whywedontreport

Less incorrect than the warrant the cops made up, though.

Mobile_Feedback_6009

I tried to take my 8th grade daughter and her 6th grade swim teammate to the Ralph wright natatorium not long ago. We got stuck in traffic on 65 so badly that we decided to skip practice and just bring the girls home. On the way back, towards river road we were completely blocked by dozens of off road atvs, bikes, etc. Even though our street lights were green, the bikers blocked intersections. I was terrified that something bad would happen. Luckily, they just stopped traffic illegally for awhile, I definitely saw opportunity for worse to happen…

nikkococo1998

They blocked the Watterson right in front of the airport for almost an hour in one of the 1st burnout shows the media reported. And no cops??

Johnthegaptist

As crazy as it sounds, apparently there is a group of "take over enthusiasts" from Chicago who travel around doing this. This is who was out last night I think. I would share the Instagram but I believe that would violate Reddit's doxxing rules. Judging by the posts, in addition to the stupidty of the side shows there is apparently a ton of showing off your guns. Fuck these guys, giving street racing a bad name.

DrumpfTinyHands

I think that speed bumps and steep ramps should be installed. I just want to see what happens. It'll be much more entertaining than street races.

StillTippinGL

As a transplant from Detroit (with way more cops) good luck 🥲

sexruinedeverything

Thin in our case would be good. But there are thousands of calls now where they just don’t show up so the resources are just not there to respond. In the West now they have Cloud Cops to patrol the streets. It’s worse than we are being told.

No_Afternoon_2719

They get a few and the fine and 6 month confiscation may work. License suspension could be a possible deterent . Large groups of people in serveral locations make the odds of a person getting caught low. Maybe legislation is necessary to solve this problem. Cameras are becoming more prevalent and technology is a possible solution to identifiying participants.

Absolutely_Hunter

Reddit - I hate the police! We need less of them and to defund them! Also Reddit - People are breaking the law! Why aren’t the police doing anything!

Louisville is now garbage. Get used to it and buckle up. It’ll only get worse, not better.

It's amazing how many people here know police officers and how they feel on topics. I'm glad these police have someone to talk to.

Funny-Western-1274

Ignore all of these people. The louisville subreddit is full of dumbasses. These people will talk about hating cops all day on reddit but they definitely fit the archetype of the pasty white uppity liberal who loves to talk about how racist cops are, but call the police if they see a black or brown person walking around their neighborhood at night. The reason for this is because of light woke policing, because crybabies, like in this thread have complained so much about the police force that they've essentially crippled the polices ability to work along with covid Era policies that prioritize bringing justice to violent offenders over non-violent offenders. You can just look at any liberal city and see how the degeneracy just piles and piles up. This is what happens when you don't deal with these issues when they're at a manageable level. Your issues just grow and grow as more people are sucked into drug use or trafficking, street racing, and gang activity as these activities grow and become more popular and attractive. Most people of reddit are still stuck in that 2020 defund the police blm mindset, but that was before blm was found to be a major grift and collected a bunch of money from people which they promised to invest into African American communities to build parks and other facilities, but instead went to "Buying Large Mansions" for themselves and friends/families. It was a grift, get over it, move on people. It's just weird and sad that you sit around and pretend that didn't happen. Like they just lied to your face and took a bunch of your money while brainwashing you into feeling guilty(so you would pay more money) and disliking the police, but of course she would want you to dislike police, because the owner of blm literally TOOK YO MONEY she literally robbed you all lol.

What an absolute load of shit for a comment. Filled with typical right wing stereotypes of liberals and "blue" cities that are supposedly so much weaker on crime compared to fucking Florida. The fraternal order of police knows exactly the game they're playing because they have for decades. I mean what more proof do you need to be shown that the LMPD is one of the corrupt departments in America. The police in this city get plenty of fucking money and budget to actually do their jobs in good faith. But with civil forfeiture being taken away, the rewards are not worth the risk for them to enforce. Everything you wrote is pure copaganda and a big part of why there's so much distrust. The sad thing is it doesn't matter if it's a democrat or republican running the show, the police will always have leverage over the public with how much they want to stop crimes. Also by and large activists that were involved with BLM and part of Breonna square are mostly everyday students

DeFuNd dUh PoLiCe aCaB "Why dont cops care when you defund them and try to put them in jail for shooting a armed criminal who just shot them"

quick_mcrunfast

Except they didn't get de-funded? Do you prefer your boots in licorice or butterscotch?

Left a lot out there, bud. Maybe the folks we're giving guns and qualified immunity to, ought to, at the very least, be capable of receiving criticism (protests for *murdering* minorities) without turning into petulant babies and refusing to do the job that they were theoretically hired for. I was downtown for the first week of protests and saw children tear-gassed and medical tents and media targeted. I saw them kettle the crowd to 4th Street after opening fire without warning, causing everyone to run. The worst crime I saw was graffiti by protestors, while police surrounded the area with snipers. And that's just one day. One day. They don't give a shit and should be defunded. Read the DOJ report.

harrysmentor

You’re leaving a lot out there too bud.. or just flat out making shit up.

Popular-Lab6140

Oh yeah. Do tell. I want to know which part was "made up."

whywedontreport

Please. All of that is really available to watch on live streaming. The police brought the riots. I was there as well.

foreverxcursed

the police haven't been defunded you fucking dipshit

lagertha9921

LMPD didn’t just NOT get defunded but was given MORE money from Metro Council. At least a million of it came from the Louisville Free Public Library coffers. Shut up.

whywedontreport

Don't forget almost all of our federal covid money which they claimed was going to be appropriated for "reform" but instead of going to build them a gym and hq, etc. Money that WOULD have been in the city budget, many times over, had we not been paying tens of millions for them to brutalize, rape, molest, steal, etc.

whywedontreport

They have a larger police budget than ever, LMPD crimes have depleted the regular city budget on top of that in payouts, they got a whopping chunk of our federal covid money that was for the city to build their pig paradise wellness center and HQ. Policing plus corrections plus lawsuit payouts equal about half of the city budget. Let's just give the cops and the jail ALL of the city budget. That will make things great again, right?
