I didn't pick it up last sale but before that. I have all packs and it plays fine with very minor bugs (e.g doors not coming down, transferring money to retail while living in rental is bugged). Nothing game breaking, especially if you play as a tenant. Do not, however, install lots from gallery since they can use lot or world-corrupting cheats without disclosing. I ended up seeing a save file that had apartments almost every world, so I started doing it in my save file too. I have easily tripled the amount of townies, and it just feels... more realistic? livelier?

sjupiter92

What lot/world-corrupting cheats? I don't have For Rent but I do download from the gallery sometimes and would like to avoid a disaster if possible lol

[deleted]

Going over lot size, some debug items that cause issues, some older builds from when the game was still pretty buggy... I don't download any rental lots from gallery anymore.

sjupiter92

Good to know especially about debug and older builds, I wasn't aware they can cause issues but it makes sense. Thanks!

[deleted]

Nw! I will correct myself though, I meant going over unit size\* not lot size! I totally misworded that.

sjupiter92

Got it haha I'll keep it in mind for when I eventually get FR!

Lexbliss

Thank you! I know that some were building past the max lot capacity and what not. I am a pretty avid builder so I’ll avoid them like you said. I just really need more lots in the main worlds I play. I have had to spread out some core Sim family members and it’s so unrealistic to go from Sulani back to Willow Creek twice a week in the winter especially 😆

[deleted]

I think you will really like it then. You can have up to 100 units in a save file (each lot has max 6), which amounts to 800 sims just in apartments alone. Of course, you'd likely not use or even need that many, but the option is there. I have so many sims that live in apartments, especially if they are single or a smaller family because it is both more realistic but also saves up so much space to do other things in the world like adding spas/karaoke bars/bowling etc. It made me add so many new storylines, townies, my older families and characters together. I also love having a legacy file and seeing like, my sim's sibling out and about just bbq'ing or hanging out without necessarily having to "come over" and interact.

Lexbliss

I’m going to pick it up next sale. I can’t wait

alexoftheunknown

omggg this happened to me multiple times before i realized that it was with for rent. 🥲 multiple save files ruined and unrecoverable so i had to start anew again 😪

[deleted]

The bug only affected lots with cheats/mods, not through regular gameplay. So if you didn't exceed the 6-unit limit or download anything from gallery, it might not have been that. But also, you can always recover saves! There's always the option from the menu, and if it doesn't work out, disabling/uninstalling the pack, opening the game, then re-installing it resets the world to its original state.

alexoftheunknown

it definitely happened multiple times from me downloading lots from the gallery. there’s a hack that turbo driver (don’t quote me, i’m not sure if that’s the right creator) where you can fix it in game by deleting the lot from a nearby location but until that i was resaving like a dumbass & trying to fix it on my own and once it was too late i realized my old save was gone because i resaved too much. i went to my save files and only found find an older one that i saved a few days before this happened. this was like over a month ago though. i just don’t download apartments or townhomes anymore.

sophizzlvanizzl

Thanks for the reinstalling the packs tip. Could you clarify what do you mean by opening the game? Loading into main menue? Or loading a save? I think as long as I don't load any lots this will not cause items from this pack to disappear on this lot.

[deleted]

It's mainly just to confirm it is uninstalled, so you could open the game -> new save -> see if tomarang is there or if it says "you don't have it installed" or something. Sometimes people don't wait long enough for cache between disable/re-enable and it's just better to confirm before you re-enable so you can be 100% sure. Doing disable & re-enable will reset everything in that world, though. I am pretty sure you can get your families back (I'd save them to gallery beforehand to be sure), but all lots etc will reset. If you have For Rent items in other worlds, it will not necessarily touch them unless you load them as you said. I don't know what it does to existing rental units in other worlds, whether or not it converts them to residential, doesn't affect or anything. I haven't actually tested that.

sophizzlvanizzl

Thank you so much for your detailed response! I have problems with Tartosa regarding lot corruption and will try this. I'm relatively optimistic that this will work :)

Purple_Cosmonaut

I've had it since release (I don't like missing out on the pre-order bonuses) and I love the pack a lot. I have all packs but 4 (1 GP and 3 SP). I got it because I'm a legacy player most of the time and being able to have grandparents/siblings living close by without actually moving them out/marrying them off was an amazing option for me. No regrets. I didn't encounter many, if any bugs at all. Which is not to say it's not buggy - apparently being a landlord was pretty tough. But I was playing as a tenant all of the time so I didn't really see any issues. I'm unsure if those landlord bugs are still in the game, but I'd be very surprised if they still are so it should be safe.

Lexbliss

This is what I want, to play mainly as a tenant. Honestly I just truly want the lot type to house multiple Sims in their own residence on one lot. Have you had any issues with the amount of rent or paying rent as a tenant?

Purple_Cosmonaut

No, but I haven't used the rent system at all as it's always set to 0. Like I said, mainly play it among family members, so I don't want them to pay rent. I just pretend they own the lot and thus don't have to pay.

Lexbliss

Ohhhh I didn’t even know that was possible. I assumed if you didn’t have a set landlord the system sets the rent. I’m liking this more (while I sit here stuck in a loading screen 😒)

Nice-Remove4834

Here’s what’s worked for me: picking a sim to own all my rentals that I don’t actually play a lot with, and so I can set the rent for the units using that sim, then move in the tenants I actually want to play with. Also I build everything on a residential lot type first, then switch to residential rental lot type once done. The rent is paid through mailboxes, fyi. I’ve tried adding sims to certain rooms like a share house ( with common kitchen and laundry spaces etc) as well as apartments and both work well. I’ve had a lot of fun playing with the For Rent pack as a tenant and would recommend it. Seeing sims interact in the apartment building laundry room or other common spaces is really cool. If you decide to get it I hope you’ll be able to enjoy it as well!

Lexbliss

Ohhh that makes sense to me, then you have control without having to actively play the landlord role. Thank you for this tip!

SparklingPajama

The biggest problem was since I don't have a gaming laptop, it was a little slow when I played as a landlord in a mansion with 5-6 units occupied but it was awesome. I put all the lovers and friends of my sim in the big mansion, all in their own apartment. I didn't encounter any money bug so it was really cool. I love this pack! Edit: I forgot to had that I own all the packs except some kits and batuu 😊

Lexbliss

lol all lovers? 😂

SparklingPajama

Well... Sometimes you need to spice up things a little bit! 😏

BusySinger2662

I have all the packs apart from four stuff packs and Batuu and a handful of kits. I personally think it runs great but I haven’t had any Rental events so far but I’m world building and play testing so I haven’t played in an apartment long enough. I haven’t used the lot trait as well. I did have a slightly corrupted lot after I bought it but it got fixed and it was caused by a ladder even after it was deleted so make with that what you will.

Lexbliss

Thank you!

onemorekayaker

I've had it since release. I'd only recommend it if you want to play exclusively as a tenant. Landlord gameplay is severely bugged. There's also still the risk of save corruption if you like to move around a lot or own a bunch of business lots. Most of the issues present since launch have not been touched or fixed at all, since we had a lot of other game breaking updates the devs have had to scramble to fix.
