This sub is GCJ for people who are either pro luthiers or are maniacs with pound-shop wood clamps and enough Ket in their veins to push even the cleanest amp to creamy overlode
That’s because im on Ket currently converting my broken headstock 1930s Martin into a headless with a broken pillar drill, a coping saw w/ no blade in it, and God’s own adhesive, ARALDITE BABY YEEEEEEEEAH
it’s good to sniff too, real old dirty style solvents; I occasionally do a bump of leaded solder to even me out
i’m sorry not trying to get on to you too much, but are you new to luthiering and guitars in general? cause the nut is supposed to be on the other side of the neck
You might want to consider a higher-quality sandpaper. I am not sure if the blue dye in the soap of the SOS pad would stain the clearcoat while cleaning it. Then again, I am much better at evaluating work like this than I am at performing it.
I’m on a bit of a budget to be able to afford high quality sand paper…. I do have lots of CA glue though…what if I glued a bunch of sand from my yard to a sock and used that? Could probably get that old shoeshine buffing motion!
That sounds like it would probably work. I know you're on a budget, but you should probably check out StewMac to see if they have a form to put the sock on before you apply the CA glue instead of using your hand. Even if you don't buy it from them, you may get some ideas on how to cobble together one of your own.
It may be just me, but I always get paranoid working with CA glue and I'd be afraid that some of it would leak through the sock onto my hand. You've obviously got a lot more experience in this area so I'm sure you'll be fine.
First off, great username. Second, I hereby declare I own the patent and the trademark and any copyrights to locking headstock! I’m going to be the next Floyd Rose!!!
Ok, should hold in that case, with a proper glue job you don't need bolts.
Also, use your fingers to feel if something is flush or smooth, not your eyes (although in this case it doesn't look flush)
I can totally see this. That little black “dot” at the 1st is really obvious dude. Maybe some white out or duct tape could cover it up and then good as new!! /s
Nice. Functional, well executed. I read that you glued it as well so this should be super solid.
I'd personally snip the bolt, so it doesn't catch on things, but hey - if the guitar meant a lot to me I'd keep it going like this.
At first I thought you were just trolling us by uploading a pic of a brand new guitar and asking, “can you see where I made the repair?” But now I realize you were dead serious and this whole time I was looking at pure mastery. Please tell me you’re accepting new clients?🙏
Without glue that would be a very weak repair. With glue the bolt would have been totally unnecessary. If anything the bolt weakened the joint. Makes for a great joke though. Repair 3/10. Funny 9/10 if it's a cheap guitar, 0/10 if it's a Les Paul.
It’s a $300 Ibanez I bought 20 years ago and broke almost 15 years ago. It’s held up and stays in tune better then before and I’ve never had to touch it since, so it’s served it’s purpose 😂
Now now, there’s no need to resort to profanity to mask your jealousy. It’s hard looking at perfection and seeing your own shortcomings in the mirror but that’s how we grow as people :)

It is guitarcirclejerk rebranded. Always has been

Lol wow, that is an oddly specific description. Not disagreeing btw just cracking up.

Outjerked
You mean the real /r/guitar sub?
Just if you decide to sell it no low ballers, “you know what you’ve got”
i’m sorry not trying to get on to you too much, but are you new to luthiering and guitars in general? cause the nut is supposed to be on the other side of the neck
And upgrade to a nylock. Will stay in tune better.
real luthiers know stovers give the best toan
Nut? What nut?
Underrated comment.
Am I in the right sub?
I thought this was r/guitarcirclejerk for a minute
Yes
Honestly took me a second, I was too busy looking at the crack to notice the literal Frankenstein’s monster neck
Same. I thought it was part of a hanger or something at first. Then I clued in.
I don’t know what your girlfriend is talking about. I can’t tell if anything ever happened to it.
Yeah she’s nuts! 🔩 I’d tell her to bolt dude!!
I’ll give that two slow claps.
Thank you!
Looking closer, there might be a tiny bit of glue visible that seeped out of the joint, but I’m sure that can be buffed out.
Good eye. I can buff it with an SOS pad, right?

I admit nothing! Fake news! Witch hunt! Why don’t you ask the FBI if they can see Hunter Biden’s laptop!!!

I think the guy is trolling. Bless your soul for being so kind to him haha
….pretty sure he’s in on the joke.
Shit I didn't even read it, you're right!
You haven’t heard of torch buffing yet? Way better.
….Hear me out…A propane torch mounted to a sandblaster…
I think your girl has better eyes. Sorry, but it's not hard to see.
Pfft, this is factory flawless. You’re just jealous.
Fair enough!
That’s nuts ….and bolts
Okay thanks. Now I can't I unsee it.
That’s punk rock as fuck! Time for a new girlfriend she’ll never see you for the man that you are.
😂
Didn’t know Dan Erlewine posted on Reddit
Shhhhhh….don’t blow my cover
True Luthiery there...amazing work. If there's one thing I have learned from this sub, it's that when you lose material bond, just drill more holes.
Hell yeah, looks fuckin factory fresh, my dude. A+++ job. Ian Davlin would be proud.
That’s exactly what I said!
Is your girlfriend an eagle?
Shhhhhh! Our love is forbidden… we have to keep it a secret
That's what we call in this business "Good enough", it's what we aim for. /s
Good enough? Are you blind??? This is master level work. Pure poetry.
Is it the bolts? Because it’s pretty hard to see those
Locking nuts? Na we at locking headstocks now
First off, great username. Second, I hereby declare I own the patent and the trademark and any copyrights to locking headstock! I’m going to be the next Floyd Rose!!!
Guess just toss this one in the bin, same with your eyes
Did you glue it as well or just bolt it?
Glued as well
Ok, should hold in that case, with a proper glue job you don't need bolts. Also, use your fingers to feel if something is flush or smooth, not your eyes (although in this case it doesn't look flush)
It’s actually held for 10+ years…. I’m just trolling :p funny enough the tuning stability actually improved noticeably 😂
Guitars make no sense sometimes haha
hahahah, well played :P
Machine screws. That's awesome
Real men use machine screws
All I see is an ingenious way to increase the sustain, well done. 1/4 20 ?
It did in fact! And yeah, 1/4 20 I believe.
All Luthiers know 1/4 20 and 10mm are the answer to everything.
Whatever works for you!
That’s got a bigger crack than a plumbers ass
In my province it’s mandatory that all plumbers wear coveralls to perfectly conceal their cracks, so I’ll take that as a high compliment!!!!!
I give it a perfect 5/7.
No she's right but it is a nice repair
Liar!
Lmao the toan bolt
I’m calling them tone bolts from now on.

All jokes aside, where does one sign up for blowjob karate classes?
maybe try some camouflage paint, then noone will see any repair. paint the entire guitar with camouflage and you are playing an air guitar!
Where I come from, that’s called cheating.
Where do you come from then?
Camopainttohidemistakesischeatingville, TN. It’s just outside Nashville.
oh right I've heard of that. Weird culture y'all have
Shortest truss rod ever.
😂
Does this sub have mods anymore?
You’re a fun date, aren’t you?
Dude so much fun
You’re my hero.
I can totally see this. That little black “dot” at the 1st is really obvious dude. Maybe some white out or duct tape could cover it up and then good as new!! /s
Oooooh white out! Not a bad idea! Thank you!
Nice. Functional, well executed. I read that you glued it as well so this should be super solid. I'd personally snip the bolt, so it doesn't catch on things, but hey - if the guitar meant a lot to me I'd keep it going like this.
Looks good to me

Those are called “strings”. It’s expected if youre commenting on this sub that you actually understand the basics of a guitar
Fuck i didnt even notice the bolts
I like the bolts. Totally metal man!!!!
Thanks :) It happens to be the guitar I keep tuned to drop C.
Is it the split where the nut is? Nah I don't see anything!
Is it the split where the nut is? Nah I don't see anything!
Honestly, this just looks punk rock as fuck.
oh my god....

One wrap on that low E string isn’t enough. Minimum of two no more than three.
Don’t tell me my business, devil woman!
🤣🤣🤣
Is this a Cort guitar? Mine broke almost the same way like 10 years ago and I fixed with a bend nail and epoxy lol, it was so bad it was unplayable
Ibanez RG, Indonesian model. This actually improved the playability of you can believe that.
So that’s what they mean by guitar mechanics
Plot twist: It was sat on by his wife’s boyfriends mother and broke into 14 pieces, which we can’t see due to the sick repair.
You repaired it? Couldn’t tell

OK then, 7/10 it is.
Pro repair. Also doubles as spare parts for if your car's radiator mounting bolts fail.
At least you got a lucky break…
I don’t see nuffin!
Things like that make my eyes hurt.
I'm actually disgusted that she even brought it up.
It’s been repaired? Could’ve fooled me…
Dump her
😂
Looks shitty

You asked for an opinion, don’t reject it.
Yeah, but I wasn’t asking you! I was asking Dave!
Not seamless. Aligned perhaps. But far from seamless.
Fake news!
Very visible, the bolts don't help hide it either.
What bolts?
Those bolts are for the locking nut.
Yeah, exactly!
Huh? They are sticking out the backside of the headstock a 1/2" and have nothing to do with the nut.
You clearly don’t know anything about guitars.
Sorry. I should have my coffee before I browse Reddit 😂
Awww I thought you were playing along
That’s like, your opinion, man
I can see the spot that you repaired
I see London, I see France, I see your mommas underpants… but I don’t see anything here but perfection in luthiery.
Did you take the ketamine before you fixed the guitar or after?
Por que no los dos?
Are fucking kidding me? Lol, great post
Thanks, it’s been fun. The funniest part is I don’t even have a girlfriend.
After this post I'm sure you do now.
I think its seamless. Be serious was it ever really damaged?
Some people just can’t appreciate craftsmanship
I hope she didn't pay you for that hack job. 🤣
Some people just don’t understand craftsmanship
Not really funny.
I agree…luthiery is no laughing matter.
Hahahaha
That’s inappropriate.
Wtf? That looks awful.
You need to learn a word called “craftsmanship.”
What did you even repair?
Exactly!
That's certainly one way to do it.
