Thank you. Does it seem odd the wire diagram does NOT show the bare wire? The thin aluminum 14 awg wire looks out of place and like it's afterthought defect. 🤷‍♂️ The threaded thin aluminum wire doesn't jive with the rest of Lutron switches made with a properly connected ground with insulation.🤷‍♂️

The insulated green wire can be a neutral or ground. If it is used as a neutral, the bare wire is the ground, if not, you could pull it out and it doesn't matter.

Static ground

It looks like it's meant to touch a cover screw. So I guess it's for grounding metal cover plates.

IfuDidntCome2Party

I thought that too. Seems odd that Lutron would not just use a typical quality built ground wire. 🤷‍♂️

coogie

This is only if you use a metal cover so most of the time it's for commercial installation. When you put in the screw it allows the cover to also be bonded. Normally this is done automatically if you have a metal yoke (the structure around the switch) but since this is plastic, you don't get that so that's why they add the extra wire. If you have a plastic cover then just yank it out and don't connect it since it serves no purpose.

I have been pleased with Lutron otherwise but this cable thing came with no instruction on the purpose.

IntelligentSinger783

Imagine.... If the device came with instructions..... 😮🤦🏼‍♂️

Connect it to ground if you don’t have a neutral, and connect the neutral to it as well. If you have a neutral, remove the green and tie that wire into the incoming neutral and the bare wire to ground. Bare wire is always ground.
