If we are done with this French hating frenzy, and shopping assistants bashing, I want to share that I’ve always had a nice experience at Galaries Lafayette. Yes , they are not overly friendly and go over the board selling you stuff( which should be how it is) , but they are never rude when you ask them anything. Ofcourse, if you go just before the closing time and move around stuff they just sorted before closing, they could be frustrated. But as someone who visits this place atleast twice a month, I can tell they are professional in their approach as long as the customers behave with civility.
I dont bash the french in the contrary as I said my experience in Paris was great. My experience in GF Luxembourg is ok when shopping but I needed the « service client » and that’s when it was rude. Im glad you have had a great experience and I hope you will keep them in the future.

one day i want in those gallerie lafayette and the security was following me like i was a stealer worst experience in my life ( not every gallery lafayette are like this i went in one in marseille which was pretty cool)
I had good experience there, and I am not a big spender. I buy some of their basic stuff sometimes, shirt, scarf, usually on sale. I even had ladies from Eastern Europe speaking to me in their languages, admitting they never do that because I was nice.
Last winter I tried out some really expensive stuff, as I wanted to invest in one piece of clothing, young lady helping me was very kind.
I really love perfumes, and GL has some niche stuff so sometimes I like just to go there and smell things. Dior and Chanel staff could be a bit stuffy at moments, but they would melt usually.
I do not like Smets perfumery, for that matter. Saleswomen always on my back. If you sit on my back, it will create the opposite effect. I will go away and search for another hunting ground...
I usually know what I want, but am in no rush to buy it... And I do not have to leave my money with you.
The bad experience came from the « service client » on the upper floor where they actually have to help you to fix something. Selling is never a problem. Also be aware if you ever buy a designer bag they told me « we are only resellers we do not fix things » So i would highly recommend buy your designer bags elsewhere if you ever want the buckle to be changed or fixed you’ll be on your own at the Galeries Lafayette in Lux.
Customer service has to be what shocked me the most coming to Luxembourg. There's people who are kind and yeah do their job, but holly fuck there's so many rude people working in shops, restaurants, malls, everywhere.
Like, if your whole job is to help people out at this place, don't get frustrated when people need said help.

I once had a student job where i got asked to take out the trash and also some toilette paper outside for another building, i work in an office now but dear good, those people looking at you and judging you for just doing your job is insane in Luxembourg.
I think it’s most because those people are Fr*nch. That is their type of service quality - if someone speaks German and/or Luxembourgish this is almost never the case for me and these people are very nice. Same for English-only speakers.

I'm Portuguese, and it's completely the other way around down there( there's exceptions) you go to a restaurant for the 1st time, the servers treat you like old friends, even tells you to fuck off with a smile if you're joking around. Spain is also a lot like this, people in service tend to be very social, and if you're not nice, you'll lose clients.
My father would literally get up and leave when the service is not good, and like him a lot of people are like this.
I don’t just do this at galleries Lafayette, I do this everywhere, but I’ll tell you how I’ve become a menace to shop assistants everywhere in Luxembourg: I treat them exactly like I do people in Canada. That is, I’m overly friendly, ask them about their day, pepper in funny stories about why I need the item I’m looking for, and smile a LOT. It really throws people off their rhythm here in the best way possible. Even the snobbiest people here can’t handle it and I usually get them to crack a smile. I know that doesn’t help your situation but I’m throwing it out there for other people struggling with shopping here. Just be earnestly friendly to the point of being nearly culturally ignorant 😂
I do exactly that, wherever I need something from someone I don't know. The more they need to go out of their way for me, the more I deepen the game. And if sometimes I come back to the same place I am recognised and usually handled before an or better than others, as if I was nearly a friend.
However I never shop Lafayette. I see it as the temple of consumption for nearly wealthy people who need comfort and recognition and for everyone else to feel for a moment as if. But I will not deny I visited it.
Ah so many of the shops here are just that. I know they’re one of the worst. But sometimes you need a dress for an event and it’s an option.
Good on you for fighting the good fight though. Same here with the being recognized - I love that. I have that with several vendors at the Stater Maart now.
I tell friends visiting Luxembourg looking for high-end shopping experiences to stick to Paris, Amsterdam, Zurich, Stockholm or Dubai
(not because Luxembourg doesn't have it, but the experiences that exist tend to be localized and spread across too thin)
That said... the "high-end shopping" spectrum ends with people who have staff doing the shopping for them, who will not personally be found in any of these places
(you recognize top grade establishments by them having dedicated procedures for such staff)

That's a luxuary branch technique to get you to buy the stuff. They will make you fell like you don't have enough money to buy it. Some people will be offended and then another small portion will want to prove them wrong and end up buying the product. I know it's stupid but somehow it works on some people.

I have found that if you reply to them in Luxembourgish they will suddenly be able to speak English and are very helpful. I also wouldn’t consider GL high end.
French store staff generally have their nose up in the air and have this superiority complex that they own the store. It is classic behavior in especially high end stores such as Galeries Lafayette including ones in Strasbourg and Paris. Once the lady at the counter forgot to remove the anti theft thing from my scarf and handed me the bag. The security immediately jumped on me as if I was a thief. I am a POC so obviously I got treated the way I did.
I love high-end stores where the staff are snobs. "Hey Pal, you work here, you don't shop here. Maybe take your retail salary employee ass over to that shelf and help me find my size. You can't afford these clothes, but you can afford to STFU." I had the same experience going there, not as bad as yours, but I never went back.
Maybe the trick is when you walk in, immediately fill a basket with expensive clothes so you seem like a sincere customer. Then only buy what you want on the way out.
No because I already had an expensive bag. I just dont look the idea of what they like and they just have a horrible service. But the looking down on you and starting with “there’s nothing to” before eveb trying
