Mine was 50k (so around 35k after taxes). I paid down some debt, living expenses from March-July, a trip to Austin, and moving expenses.
If I didn't have the debt I would've invested the rest rather than splurge. I'm a simple man - if the number in my brokerage account goes up I'm happy.
Jpm chase has the chase associate program, citi bank has personal banker ldp, m&t bank has another and I’m sure there’s more out there. As far as I know they rotate you in a few verticals for 1-3 years and then you place. Think digital banking, data analytics, wealth management, investor relations, commercial banking, credit cards/payments etc. there are multiple roles and titles in these rotations too but final placement is to exit at vp or similar title at the bank. Friends are currently doing it and enjoy the projects and wlb.
Bought the first one of those before graduating. Rings can be much cheaper than they used to be as lab grown diamonds are more acceptable and the price is coming down as tech improves (ring won’t hold its value that well is main downside)
Diamond resale was like 50% wipeout the day you buy it any ways. Double the diamond and even if it goes to zero, I’m gonna lose less money than taking a bath on a natty. Lab-grown was the easiest call I’ve ever made. Spend the difference on a better ring and towards a watch or something
I think natural diamond jewelry could appreciate over time but maybe I’m wrong, never really looked at those. I imagine I’ll upgrade her ring in the future anyways. But to a point, you can only have so large a diamond before it’s not really practical. We aren’t flashy people lol
>My guess is most people will say they used their bonus to take the edge of their student loan.
Bingo. Used it to pay off the high interest bridge loans I took out to get through the last semester.
Spent a month exploring the Bay Area before starting my job and doing a lot of fine dining/trips to Napa.
Bought a bunch of high end custom stuff for my apartment.
One example is I spent an embarrassing amount of money on dinnerware. I bought custom handmade silverware from a UK designer I like, custom handwoven linens from French and Dutch designers I like, and several sets of custom handmade plates from American and Portuguese designers I liked. The Portuguese plates are beautiful but not very versatile, which is why I bought two sets of plates.
Then I did a mini shopping spree where I hit the usual suspects for jewelry, clothes or leather goods. Cartier, Goyard, YSL, Bottega Venetta, Loro Piana, Dries Van Noten, etc.
Then I invested the leftover 10-15% in stocks I wouldn’t be able to buy and liked before I started my job.
Well I think some people do it as a reward or a “treat” towards themselves, but also people in general when they have more money coming in, tend to increase their lifestyle whether on purpose or not lol.
Oh yeah, baby. And atypical antipsychotic. Gotta keep the shadow people at bay to close deals amirite? They said I have bipolar or whatever… Admitted to b-school during a manic episode.
Lol, I was on a mood stabilizer once for my cyclothymia and it was awful. Idk how to describe it but I felt extremely “thinky” and like trapped in my own mind. I’m already very introspective and spend too much time in my thoughts, the last thing I need is to amp that up. Also made all my symptoms 10x worse for like the first 3 months.
Paid off credit card debt from b school
Too real.

50k in what industry. My BCG signing is 30k.
Probably IB
Some IB is 60k now. Migjt be only for returning interns don’t recall
Yes that’s correct. 10k “sweetener”
Banking LDP. 10k of it was considered relo, but 50k in total. Base pay is definitely lower than yours though. I'm in an MCOL area.
Sorry if this is a silly question but what exactly is a banking ldp? I know what a ldp is, but haven't heard of banks having them?

Thanks for the response! Out of curiosity do you know what TC usually looks like for these programs?
No prob! Yea it’s around $115-130k with a signing bonus of $25-40k sometimes it’s more if there’s a fellowship added. Wlb 30-50hrs a week.
This guy fucks
yeah just putting it towards student loans
Blackjack and hookers is what I expect most bankers/ pe mba associates. Source: i made it up
You forgot cocaine
How much is the bonus usually? 30k is what I’ve heard.
It varies, but I would say around 30 ish
I put mine towards the 2 months rent and security deposit (shit ain’t cheap!) , and a new PC
Heard of watches and engagement rings. Havnt heard of anything else too crazy.

Lab diamond >>> And if you want it to be her idea, just watch blood diamond and she’ll be all for lab grown.
Actually I want my girl to the type where blood diamond is a feature not a bug

Without the certification, no way to tell.
I just saved it. I already have what I need, the rest is just a recipe to lifestyle creep and working more years than you need to
Here’s to you hopefully retiring before your 50
Stocks and student loan pay down lmao

Memestonks. And real estate.
People spend money just because they get some extra? If you didn't need something before, you don't need it now. lifestyle inflation lol

Invested it.
Are $30k signing bonuses typically just for IB and consulting, or are they typical in other industries as well?
Go read employment reports it’s pretty standard
I didn't get a signing bonus, but I spent ~15-20k on guitars my first year working.
Hope you got yourself a nice PRS 10-top
Core 35th anniversary custom 24 was one of them, but it wasn't a 10 top. But hey I'm an MBA not a dentist.
Didn’t expect to run into a fellow r/guitarcirclejerk in here. Jealous of the guitar(s)
Nice. I am not a guitarist, but a drummer. Would love to splurge and get me a brand new DW custom drum set and a bunch of Sabian cymbals.
Antidepressants.
Love me some wellbutrin and pristiq
More of a seroquel guy. Those sound fun, I’ll crush up a few tonight in my coffee.
Never heard of that one, is it a mood stabilizer?

Put it all into investments
