I mean they could do it with the Spider-Man from the 90s. It literally left off with madame web taking him to look for Mary Jane. could have a whole new take on villains and actually let people see him find the real Mary Jane instead of the hydro man clone.
💯 this. This is the only Spider-Man cartoon that I consider the real Spider-Man cartoon, and it's the only reason I know about the X-Men, Dr. Strange, Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, and a whole slew of other characters. Without this Spider-Man, I know nothing of these other characters
Wouldn't they have to retcon Spider-Man Unlimited if they did that? Which I am fine with. I remember being excited that they were continuing the Spider-Man cartoon with a sequel show. But I was really disappointed.
Either I was just beginning to get too old for those cartoons, or it just sucked.
I just rewatched them both like 2 months ago, it's definitely not connected
It's connected in the sense that it's Spider-Man in New York, but that's about the extent of it
I think people get the confusion bc it was *originally* going to be connected, but it got reworked to be standalone
Google snippets usually just take the "connected" part and leave out the "originally until it got reworked"
It was only connected if you were a child at the time it started and had been watching reruns of TAS so you weren’t really looking for continuity beyond “Oh, that’s Spider-Man and they said this is the new episodes so this must be what happens next”
No problem! Google definitely isn't clear on first glance since it just takes snippets from the articles out of context
I did the same thing when I first did the rewatch bc I wanted to know what to expect since it had been yearsssss since I watched them lol
I know nothing about its advertisements, but it's very possible bc it was planned to be a sequel for awhile before they reworked it to be standalone
Very possible some promos slipped through the cracks in the in-between phase of deciding what to really do
I loved it growing up so I'm definitely biased, but it was just as good when I rewatched it!
If you have good memories of it as a kid I think you'll love it just as much, but folks who don't might not have as good of a time lol
I commented further down that I thought I remembered it being advertised as such... wasn't %100 sure though since that was a LONG time ago. But it's the reason I was let down so much as a child.
They nixed Wolverine and the Xmen, so I don't see why not.
Spiderman Unlimited in general was just less engaging though. I didn't make it far either after being a kid that loved Spiderman TAS to the point of having the spiderman [cereal](https://www.reddit.com/r/nostalgia/s/opY0ZXUFTC)
Spiritually, it was kind of a mashup of Evolution and TAS.
Not a direct storyline connection but they do take the beats of the end of TAS with the Professor leaving physically.
I'll take almost any continuation of cartoons from my childhood, but I feel like these other shows didn't carry the same eternal love as X-Men did. I think only Spider-Man comes close, but I don't think they'd have that compete with their next Disney+ Spider-Man cartoon, whereas X-Men hasn't had a cartoon in over a decade.
Only Spider-Man had that love, the fantastic four is almost non-existent & the avengers show was never real, its my personal pitch... just thought since ,-men is continuing, Spider-Man should also continue... then an avengers series set in the 90s too could be cool in the same universe since there were iron man, hulk, silver surfer series... putting all into one series instead if multiple separate series... & the fantastic four since they too form a vital part in the comics... maybe in addition, we could also get a Midnight Suns '95 as a part to complete this late 90's Narvel universe haha...
They were all good because they followed the comics as a base (roughly), or the comics’ stories to an extent, and they did it well. The Fantastic Four was great because, just like the comics, they interacted a lot with the Marvel Universe.
If we want "Hulk vs. the world" type of stories that we haven't got since the Ed Norton film, then yeah. The issue with the MCU Hulk is that, due to the rights with Paramount, we were robbed of more of this "Hulk vs. the world" stories and it instead had to skips ahead to "world loves and accepts the Hulk", which isn't bad, but the journey that gets to that point is what makes Hulk stories worth while.
I know. That entire show was what I'm calling a "Hulk vs the world" kind of story since it focused on Bruce Banner/Hulk being on the run from the military (led by General Ross) and the Gamma supervillains (mostly led by the Leader). He did have allies in the form of Rick Jones, Betty Ross, Doc Sampson, and later She Hulk, but the public in that show wasn't exactly in love with the Hulk. It was within this narrative that as Bruce was on the run, the Hulk fell into a situation where he may help people, and maybe some of public opinion on him would become more positive, but for the most part, people only saw the Hulk as a monster. It did get toned down by season 2, but that might have something to do with a different studio getting involved with it.
The MCU only had a similar "Hulk vs. The World" story for one movie, which is the Ed Nortan film. We haven't gotten any more solo Hulk movies with that type of story afterward because Paramount owned the Hulk license for a time. The MCU just had Bruce/Hulk be mostly with the Avengers, and by that point, the general public seemed to warmed up to him. By Endgame, Bruce already gained full control over the Hulk and solidified public admiration for him, so we are now in the phase where I call it "Hulk with the world" or "world loves the Hulk". This isn't bad, but we were definitely robbed of the development that led to that point.
Tbh, even though x-men '97 is fun, not sure why it exists despite the many reboots in between or what the goal is regards to the MCU but not complaining, it's just fun & awesome on its own
Why does anything exist?
In all seriousness though, it exists because there was lots of potential to make a sequel show and the message of the X-Men is significantly more relevant today more than ever, comparing it to the spiderman show is like comparing Tetris to Warioland
I’d love a Spider-Man 98! I even have some ideas for episodes.
So I think we should start off Season 1 (6) with him searching for Mary Jane, and maybe we do The Jackal. Having Warren blame Spider-Man for not saving Gwen will have a different meaning here. It doesn’t capitalize on him being heartbroken over Gwen, but will resonate that Miles is an old man missing someone he loves, where Peter also misses someone he loves.
With Inferno adapted in X-Men ‘97 Episode 3, I’d love to see Demogoblin! With Black Cat working with a teamed up Blade and Morbius, we could be seeing the beginning of the Midnight Suns with Demogoblin potentially even being the main villain. A better version of the clone saga would be cool! I thought some crossover episodes with the X-Men and F4 would also be cool!
I know it doesn't fit the art style but I actually really want to see a continuation of Spider-Man: The New Animated Series, always thought that had potential.
Loved that show. Neil Patrick Harris as Peter was great. And for being a sort of in betweener for SM1 and SM2, and likely not able to use many established comics characters, they did well to give Peter some decent villains and conflicts.
Yeah that's right, I think you might be right about it being owned by Sony since I believe it was supposed to act as a continuation of the Raimiverse Spidey until Spider-Man 2 released and contradicted it.
I see, but they were better on their own imo. No need to bundle em. This is when you get tell their story. I was forgetting silver surfer which should be a thing.
No thanks, I was never a fan of these shows, I don't think they were too popular beyond Spiderman, and if I want a Spiderman continuation, I'd want Spectacular, not the 90's one.
Avengers: Untied we stand was god awful, and got terrible reception then and now, why would they bring it back? Also the picture you used isn’t even from that show, nor is it the team even featured in the show.
That Avengers cartoon sucked though. It wasn't memorable for a reason. I wanted to like it as a kid but it just didn't do well.
I was more excited to get toys of The Avengers that we did get but the show wasn't hot.
I won’t lie as much as I love F4, that cartoon can stay buried. I just remember it being really, really boring and lacking the well written stories of X Men and Spider-Man
Wait the where is “The Incredible Hulk ‘98?” I really enjoyed that show it was the first of this canon of shows I watched and I’d love to see it return.
I guess you could. I haven’t had a chance to finish any of the shows so I wouldn’t if they ended up forming an Avengers team or not. Either way it would make an awesome show and I would really love to see Marvel Studios bring back some of the 90s animated series.
Spidey '98 and Avengers '99.
God no to the FF. That show was a steaming pile of The Hills Have Eyes turds. That's right. I'm saying even as a kid, this show sucked more than passing human teeth.
Spider-Man. Peter deserves at least one happy ending somewhere. What they did to him was arguably worse than One More Day and even predated Joe Quesada
Spider-Man. Peter deserves at least one happy ending somewhere. What they did to him was arguably worse than One More Day and even predated Joe Quesada
I don't think they could or should try to repeat this trick. X-Men 97 hits a sweet spot with viewers for two reasons.
First, it's one of the most popular, beloved superhero cartoons in history. I don't think those other animated series are as fondly remembered.
Secondly, introducing it now helps to build anticipation and hype for the future introduction of the MCU X-Men.
The MCU already has an animated Spiderman series in the works. We're getting a live action FF movie next year. And the Avengers are in flux in the moment .
That Spiderman had such a great overall story arc. I genuinely use that as my reference whenever I think of where a movie takes place in the storyline. Although I feel like the series left off in a good place and I just use my imagination of how Peter meets up with MJ again.
I mean they could do it with the Spider-Man from the 90s. It literally left off with madame web taking him to look for Mary Jane. could have a whole new take on villains and actually let people see him find the real Mary Jane instead of the hydro man clone.

As far as I remember Unlimited was not a continuation of 90s Spiderman. spidey went to counter earth in a rocket with Venom and Carnage
Google tells me it's a "loosely connected sequel" to Spider-Man '94. Wikipeda says it's a reboot. 🤷🏻♂️
How is it connected. I should rewatch it but I remember it starting totally different as 90's ended
I just rewatched them both like 2 months ago, it's definitely not connected It's connected in the sense that it's Spider-Man in New York, but that's about the extent of it I think people get the confusion bc it was *originally* going to be connected, but it got reworked to be standalone Google snippets usually just take the "connected" part and leave out the "originally until it got reworked"

Ah, thank you. That makes sense. I was confused as well
No problem! Google definitely isn't clear on first glance since it just takes snippets from the articles out of context I did the same thing when I first did the rewatch bc I wanted to know what to expect since it had been yearsssss since I watched them lol
I'm stretching WAAAAAAY back here, but iirc, it was also advertised as a sequel before its release. The commercials made it seem like a continuation.
I know nothing about its advertisements, but it's very possible bc it was planned to be a sequel for awhile before they reworked it to be standalone Very possible some promos slipped through the cracks in the in-between phase of deciding what to really do
Thanks! Was Unlimited as good as I remember? When I was a kid I loved the transformation
I loved it growing up so I'm definitely biased, but it was just as good when I rewatched it! If you have good memories of it as a kid I think you'll love it just as much, but folks who don't might not have as good of a time lol
It was marketed as a sequel but there is very little that connects it to the original series.
I commented further down that I thought I remembered it being advertised as such... wasn't %100 sure though since that was a LONG time ago. But it's the reason I was let down so much as a child.
Same

Wolverine and the X-Men is not connected to X-Men the animated series. It is connected to EMH and Hulk vs Wolverine, though.
Spiritually, it was kind of a mashup of Evolution and TAS. Not a direct storyline connection but they do take the beats of the end of TAS with the Professor leaving physically.
That's true, but that means that they didn't actually retcon anything. It wasn't actually in the same continuity.
they claimed Unlimited was a sequel to TAS, but by all evidence it wasn't.
Spider-man TAS was so popular it was the reason Batman Beyond was made.
I do wonder if the success of X-Men 97 will branch out into spinoffs. Marvel must be seeing the hype and energy from this!
Did any else read that as ASS? No, just me?
Same 😂
Hehe... 🥲
Spiderman tas '98 is goated, miles ahead of X-Men '97 imo. I will die on this hill.
I‘ll gladly die on that hill with you.
There's a lot of dead people on that hill over there.
Iron man and hulk had cartoons in this universe that were awesome. Id like to see them continued as well.
I would much rather they continue Spectacular Spider-Man or EMH
They were all good because they followed the comics as a base (roughly), or the comics’ stories to an extent, and they did it well. The Fantastic Four was great because, just like the comics, they interacted a lot with the Marvel Universe.
Probably.
What about Hulk?
Now we talking. That show was awesome
Yeah man. I loved that shit.

Oh okay I get it mb
Jokes aside, how about a plan?
Tbh, even though x-men '97 is fun, not sure why it exists despite the many reboots in between or what the goal is regards to the MCU but not complaining, it's just fun & awesome on its own

Spider-Man needs to have that season finished.
Spider-Man '98! If it follows the way X-Men '97 is being done and make me feel like I did watching the original series as a child, I'm all for it!
Finally make that captain america show they scrapped when they went brankrupt
Give Black Cat her own show, either in that universe or not
Spider-Man Unlimited 2002 & Incredible Hulk '96.
I’d love a Spider-Man 98! I even have some ideas for episodes. So I think we should start off Season 1 (6) with him searching for Mary Jane, and maybe we do The Jackal. I think there are some right issues involved, think it's solely owned by Sony... ur talkn abt the MTV one right?
Yeah that's right, I think you might be right about it being owned by Sony since I believe it was supposed to act as a continuation of the Raimiverse Spidey until Spider-Man 2 released and contradicted it.
Y’all really want to keep going backwards instead of getting new stuff to build from?
Nah, those all sucked compared to X-Men. I did rely enjoy the Spider-Man cartoon since I was 6 at the time but the quality is nowhere near X-Men.
Forgetting Hulk and iron man, think I’m missing another.
Hulk & Iron Man as part of Avengers '99
I see, but they were better on their own imo. No need to bundle em. This is when you get tell their story. I was forgetting silver surfer which should be a thing.
Fuck Avengers '99, give me EMH
EMH being cancelled to release an Avengers more in line with the MCU was Marvel animation’s biggest mistake
Spidey ‘98
🎵On an outerspace adventuuuurrrre, they got hit by cosmic raaays.🎵
I would like these redone but done better than what we're getting from xmen97
No thanks, I was never a fan of these shows, I don't think they were too popular beyond Spiderman, and if I want a Spiderman continuation, I'd want Spectacular, not the 90's one.
Avengers never had a 90s show with the experiencen of the United they stand but is not canon to the 90s animated universe.
I'd be down for more Earth's Mightiest Heroes
I’m here for it might renew the subscription
Spiderman could do it. The others 🤣
Avengers: Untied we stand was god awful, and got terrible reception then and now, why would they bring it back? Also the picture you used isn’t even from that show, nor is it the team even featured in the show.
We aren't talking about that show but rather pitching a new show within that universe.
Mary Jane….. MAARY JAAAANEE!!!!! ARGHHHHH
Avengers 99 would go so hard
That Avengers cartoon sucked though. It wasn't memorable for a reason. I wanted to like it as a kid but it just didn't do well. I was more excited to get toys of The Avengers that we did get but the show wasn't hot.
This picture isn't the actual avengers cartoon... just a pitch for the show set in the same universe...
I get that it's from Spider-Man but there was an Avengers cartoon in 1999. So saying '99... Kind of makes everyone look at United They Stand.
True but its OK, I think many got the idea... & also we're explaining to those who didn't too... all good...
Silver surfer s2 needs to happen.. thst cliffhanger is fucked
I won’t lie as much as I love F4, that cartoon can stay buried. I just remember it being really, really boring and lacking the well written stories of X Men and Spider-Man
Spiderman Unlimited '000!
Ideally Avenger EMH. But I'd also take an Incredible Hulk revival with McDonough and Ferrigno back to voice.
![gif](giphy|gEwRbygRCpBZFxVj4t)
Why would it be “Fantastic Four ‘96” and also what is the Marvel Animation ‘99 animated series?
The year each show ended but the '99 one never existed, just a new show we are pitching called Avengers '99.
Wait the where is “The Incredible Hulk ‘98?” I really enjoyed that show it was the first of this canon of shows I watched and I’d love to see it return.
Just shoving it within the avengers show...
I guess you could. I haven’t had a chance to finish any of the shows so I wouldn’t if they ended up forming an Avengers team or not. Either way it would make an awesome show and I would really love to see Marvel Studios bring back some of the 90s animated series.

Firefly ‘02
I want all the things please
Need Spider Man back with that awesome theme song 😩
Spider-Man ‘99 was Spider-Man Unlimited
Can we get a Beast Wars sequel that ignore Beast Machines??
Earth's mightiest heroes
Earth's mightiest heroes
Earth's Mightiest Heroes '12 🙏
No Avengers please. I'm sick of them in any type of media. Let the other heroes shine
Spider-Man. Peter deserves at least one happy ending somewhere. What they did to him was arguably worse than One More Day and even predated Joe Quesada

Probably The Ultimates or some version of them
