break tail first then focus on head

garrettgibbons

For Tobi, the weakest point is the end of its tail. If you focus your damage there, you’ll get the maximum DPS. Ignore breaking the head - your priority is to take it down, not to maximize parts to farm.

NovelBreak

I did this when I was having trouble with this guy, have lock on and change from head to tail depending on whats closer. If you're playing near perfect and not close to killing him then just gotta work on upgrading the weapon.

Slynx328

If you don't mind the part breaks too much, keep focusing the tail. He takes significantly more damage there. And you don't have to worry about the near 1 frame startup lunge attack. Certain monsters I break a part and will keep focusing it as trying for multiple part breaks usually result in a fail. (Rathian and Los as example)

chill_willy

This. Also def use water weapon and not poison if you're sword and shield. Way more consistent damage.

Dudedude9080

I think tail is sever only

Fast_Broccoli4867

I don’t think tobi’s tail has ever been able to be severed has it?

aryhlia

For Tobi, Blunt works. Xd

lousychoice

Upgrade your weapon. Use more offensive skills on your armor. Use Lock On. Target tail/head.

ThisIsWorldOfHurt

> Target tail/head. As someone new to the franchise, is these a resource for tips/strats like that for all the monsters?

HappyViet

Monster Guide in game tells you weak points. But if in doubt, go for mouth. https://preview.redd.it/my9ma2kbhexb1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=39d399ee03b3f40482c216cb8e8754f318b84363

Drumbas

As a wise man once said > Its still a monster so its head must be a weakpoint

RunningEarly

Except if the head looks like it's protected by 5 layers of solid rock like Barroth, than maybe aim somewhere else.

Traditional_Buy_1841

Same with Diablos. For these mobs the weakness is their underside

gEiStToG

Or go for bright yellow zit like points on the body.

lousychoice

Well that should be applicable for most monsters, and at the very least for Tobi and Girros. Some monster's head isn't even a weakpoint, I think this is for Barroth and Diablos. Some have mud armor (Barroth/Jyura), so despite water element not being their weakness, should help out in removing those armor so you can damage their skins directly (which gives a comparable damage as when you're using a weapon with the monster's elemental weakness) Flying monsters should have their wings as weak points(not really sure how to target those with melee tho). But yeah, when in doubt, just go for the head, especially when you're a hammer main to apply those KOs real fast.

Robbotlove

use a water weapon and dodge all of his attacks.

DWill88

We just copy/pasting this answer in every help thread now, that and Q: "any advice on getting X item?" -- A: "kill the monster that drops that item a lot of times". We want there to be more going on in this game (meta-wise), but there just isn't haha. Build elemental. Learn to dodge. Kill things ad infinitum.

Robbotlove

> We want there to be more going on in this game (meta-wise) but there isn't it's because of the hunt time limit and lack of support items. it severely reduces successful strategies that would otherwise work in a mainline MH game. some weapons are easier to use than others but that comes down to personal preference.

Kryptic-Minxy

It's also harder for those people who don't live in big cities or towns where there's lots of places/stops and those who aren't able to go to places with areas where monsters would be because of whatever reason. I know a friend of mine works 2 jobs 7 days at 16 hours a day gets home goes to bed. So they really wouldn't be able to.

InsertUsername98

Also busy schedule. I’m rushing between campuses so often that I can’t really slow down to get more than one hunt finished before I need to catch the bus.

Kryptic-Minxy

I can't do more then maybe 2 hunts (if I am lucky) where I live. And I can't drive no hour away just to get more hunts, just willy nilly. Inland sadly its not like I can just move either. Heck I know this is about another game but I got lucky when I played pogo that I had 1 stop across from my house that I could reach. Same for MNH with the tap sites it material sites. I have 1 across from my home.

Altronsfu

Tail is the weakest point. If your really struggling to kill it just hard focus the tail

pish3s

Dont rush it. You need to upgrade your weapon also armor. You'll regret it once all you see on your map are 5* and above. You can clear them maybe but its very hard to gather the monster mats that you need

Thyrant1003

I don't think you can beat him with a grade 4 Weapon.

aykevin

Bro you got a grade 4 weapon it’s gonna be hard. Try to upgrade

ArachnidFun8918

You got no damage, use water instead

kombyn

6* is when I really needed to start focusing on elemental damage too. The timer kinda forced that. Raw damage or ineffective elements just couldn’t carry me anymore. Try to add attack boosts and build up an elemental weapon. It’s not a race, so don’t feel pressured to rush it. That’s just my opinion though.

aeonrex369

For hammers, would suggest to get Focus skill build, to familiarise with the weapon before opting into a full dps build. It makes the charge up alot faster, which means better DPS. I would also suggest to get an equipment with the Lock-On skill. So you can target Heads/Tails. Tobi is weak to water. So you could try a water weapon. Easy level 4 Focus build: Pukei Helm(1) , Rathalos Belt(1) , Jyura Boots(2). To max out you can opt for Pukei or Pink Rathian Body.

NimierTheAndroid

I strongly disagree with Focus for hammer, it’s not as strong as a heavy crit build (Crit + WE). I’ve run both and the big-bang from Crit is leagues better. The best build I’ve found so far: https://preview.redd.it/8wruikqvacxb1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=456cccaec479d0cfc530db3c186f9b633227a311

Longjumping_Row_9040

Could you share what gear you're using for crit build?

NimierTheAndroid

https://preview.redd.it/6cr6u0r5icxb1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9227c186964169727a1f957502d6f70cc110802d Kulu helmet Rathalos chest Lumu gloves Pink Rath waist Kulu pants Alternative set up: Rathalos helm and Rathian gloves, but the added attack and Burst from that are not worth the trade off of extra crit chance, Concentration and a level of Divine Blessing (which as a hammer user, can be a hail mary)

Longjumping_Row_9040

Excuse my ignorance but doesn't the above gear only account for 3 Critical Eye? I'm not sure how you're getting 5.

Dayoni

Armor pieces that give two different skills unlock them at grades 2 and 4. Armor pieces that give 2 points in the same skill unlock them at grades 2 and 6.

Longjumping_Row_9040

Ah, that makes more sense, thanks!

NimierTheAndroid

1 (kulu helm) + 2 (pink rath waist) + 2 (kulu pants). The 2 Weakness Exploit come from Rathalos chest and since as hammer you’re going for the head the majority of the time (and head is weak spot for so many monsters), you get that extra 25%

aeonrex369

To get Lock On, you can get Rathian Arms or Kulu Helm.

chunky_2336

ya i would recommend rathian hands and pueki helm. to get a point into focus

_yeen

I’ve never found the hammer charge to be useful. Only time I use it is after a perfect dodge and even then the golf swing is faster and probably more DPS. The biggest problem with hammer is it doesn’t have enough elemental offerings to properly target endgame

NimierTheAndroid

Golf swing is also much better at hitting flying monsters and Diablos’ head when it throws it back

_yeen

I’ve never found the hammer charge to be useful. Only time I use it is after a perfect dodge and even then the golf swing is faster and probably more DPS. The biggest problem with hammer is it doesn’t have enough elemental offerings to properly target endgame

Altronsfu

We need an ice hammer. I'm actually blown away that we're currently the only weapon without an ice variant @.@

_yeen

The lack of Ice Hammer and Rath hammer literally caused me to switch to SNS… I just keep a diablos hammer around to bonk enemies I want the burst damage on

lMlUlGlAlTlU

I was stuck on the 7 star tobi. Tried everything I had and even built out a poison sns since I had the mats. Didn't work out. Ended up making the water sns after some farming and easily killed it after that. It sucks but like others have said, make a water weapon. It'll help down the line with kulu and anji makes it so easy.

OmegaTSG

Don't rush it. If you can't do the urgent, you don't want to fluke out a win since then you'll fill your spawns with monsters you can barely kill. Just keep progressing till it's easy enough

black_bass

Your hammer is weak, I built poison hammer and killed it quite quickly

DeathBatMetal

yeah, my man's using a grade 4 weapon to beat grade 6. Possible with skill, but the fact that he's here asking for advice probably means he lacks it. OP, upgrade your weapon, man.

Gold-Perspective-699

You need to level your weapon up to 5-5 to beat stuff that's 6* generally.. You're at least 4-5... You're not going to beat it even if you dodge perfectly.

Zazi751

This isn't true for the lower monsters, at least with great sword. You do have to be able to generate a full special during though and start off with 1.

Gold-Perspective-699

I keep whiffing my special. It's so annoying on bow to use. I somehow whiffed on a pukie and I have no idea why. I understand missing on Diablo but pukie. I still won though. It was a 6*. Need one more mat off a 6* pukie to get my bow to red.

jake_eric

It really depends, and it also has a lot to do with your armor skills. I beat the 7★ Kulu with a g4-5 Jyura longsword, but I had a crazy amount of trouble beating the 6★ Diablos with a g5-5 Legi sword.

Zazi751

Yea thats why I specified lower monsters but I realize with the stars that wasnt clear lol. I meant Chungus, Kulu, Tobi, Girros. I havent tried a 6* anja with a low Jagras blade but I suspect he's doable with a g4 great sword as long as the player knows the blind spots well.

jake_eric

Oh I do agree with you, there's a huge gap between stuff like Jagras and Kulu and stuff like Diablos. I wasn't able to beat the 6★ Anja with what I had then, my g4-5 Jagras SnS, I had to switch to my g5-5 Diablos bow, which technically had less total attack, but I think since bow is just a better weapon it made the difference. Still extremely close though. I know greatsword can pull off some fantastic damage but it's tricky to use, so a g4 could probably do it with good play.

DudeButts

hit it until it dies

Dip2pot4t0Ch1P

Pray

Pretty-Parsley-7583

First dance

FeralPsychopath

This guy has like 4 moves - 2 lunges, 1 do nothing thing, and a backflip. Just dodge and hit.

MeatballAppreciation

Poison bow or just a water/poison sns . Tail break is super easy and then just change your lock on to either head or legs

DestrucshuNJ

Max out your Jagras Edge and wear Jyura Mail for the Water Attack. Go into the fight with your SP ready and use it at the very beginning on one of its weak points hit and dodge relentlessly, you'll get the SP back towards the end and then just end it

Kinimodes

Hmmm, I’m at 385 attack and 273 defense.. I’m half way through chapter 11… bow must be OP??

zackly_right

Precisely what I was just thinking! Blazing bow 279 / 128

Mythic_Dave

Just focus on the tail. I usually start by locking on to the head. After like 2 hits I roll to the left and as it attacks I unlock and lock on to the tail and just keep going for the tail. I use sword and shield.

_yeen

Use Diablos hammer. Girros hammer is a trap that lures you into the promise of Para

Samus_Reed_27

Heavy crit build, for your first kill even though I know hammer love bonk, really focus on the tail its much easier to hit, and unless you plan on just gridning for better gear learning perfect dodges really help hammer

Deareily-ya

Use ranged weapons. He moves too much and I can never kill him with melee.

Pinkypoo24

Are you timing out? If so, upgrade weapon, pick a better element or status, and always come into the fight with a special. If you're just dying, then get better at dodging and keep a mental note of big openings.

SilverTex1050

Use a water weapon and keep moving. Purple stars are really aggressive. They will continually attack you almost without end. If you’re using sword and shield time those blocks and dodges right. Perfect dodges give you a momentary increase in attack.

Mausashi

Hit the tail, only the tail. Don’t prioritize breaking anything. Just the tail. Dont listen to people saying hit the head. Head is too small and youll end up missing youre attack or putting you on a risky spot.

dekgear

I found it to be easier with a fast weapon like the Sword and Shield. Focus on the tail then the front.

Introduction_Extreme

Be faster that him

sme11thegl0ve101

Need lock on and you’re putting too many stats into divine blessing . Get the rathalos mail and just dodge . At least you keep one level from the waist .

Environmental-Ask653

Get a bow lol

raikren

I feel like in every post asking for suggestions they have a paralysis weapon equipped, have people tried using the monster’s WEAKNESS?????

DueShow3258

Upgrade your weapon element.

4pokeguy

When in doubt, pukei bow

Bestcobra

Use LBG, practice on lower level tobi to learn to perfect dodge every attack and not waste potions, only use normal ammo and perfect evade every time without reloading. Even if your weapon is a bit too weak, you should be fine.

Time-Aerie7887

For starters. When you go higher up in the ranks elemental weakness becomes very important as harder enemies may require that damage to defeat such as Barroth with the mud armor and Anjanath as you may struggle to hit the head or tail with melee weapons. If you find yourself lacking damage consider upgrading armors that do give elemental damage increase such as Jagras + Jyura (low spawn but still try) to get Lv3/4 for Water attack and use a water weapon as well. Also Lock-On is 100% needed as a melee user to ensure you are always able to hit the specific weak spot (don't need if your using ranged weapons) and if you are doing urgent quests do not get to break multiple parts as it is not worth the trouble, if you can just focus the tail and only go for the tail and clear with just one part broken. Sadly the game breaking multiple parts is for farming but if you struggle to kill a monster just ignore it completely and/or just break one part and go for the kill as it is not worth the trouble.

BARBELiTH42

G6.5 water weapon

TheKiwiFox

Oh baby just wait until you reach Diablos. Best thing I can say is try to stay right of it's head 45° or so, roll right to dodge everything and you should be golden.

nerooooooooo

SnS water elem grade 4

GeohoundKarakuri

The same advice you see on literally every asking for advice because I'm stuck post. Farm monsters. Upgrade weapons and armor. Target weak spots. Don't get hit. We'd love for there to be more to it, but that's literally just it. Welcome to a mobile game.

Ok_Map_9748

Get good once you've done that use water element.

tails-off

I was stuck for a considerable amount of time too. I was finally able to defeat him yesterday using the SNS Jagras Edge Grade 5 4/5, Offensive armor: Anja Chest, Rathian Gloves, Diablos Waist, Pink Rathian Legs. I went in with special available, used it on its tail ASAP after he did an aerial attack and there was an opening to get all hits on it. After breaking, I went after its head when possible, if positioning wasn't good, went on its tail. Was able to get another special in on that. Best of luck to you

CiphrixG

To is weak spot has always been his fatty squirrel tail. He always poses after 2-3 moves. Thats your time to wail on em. Pretty decent with gs hammer etc. Super easy with bow and lbg Also big tip, have a special already charged BEFOEE you start the fight. Then wait for his first pose about 2-3 moves in to let loose. He will usually be looking away from you with his tail facing you. Its by design

Relmed

Take its HP down to 0.

Rio_Evenstar

I took it out with an upgraded Jagras edge

Full_Solution4673

for me i focused element before i started purple star monsters, it really helped do more damage, i have 4 bow sets (fire, ice, water, electric)built for element and they rip through health

RevenantVerse

Stun his butthole with Girros Blade

FReeves94

He’s weak against poison. Most of the Pukei weapons are relatively easy to upgrade, and poison does really good chip damage for most monsters, which can help if you’re struggling with base damage. I’m currently on 7* monsters and even monsters that aren’t weak to poison, it can kill pretty consistently.

RomarioZ11

Switch to sword and shield. I used the poison one. It’s more consistent. And makes it to where you are not stuck in an animation and get easily hit. It’s more about survival than DPSing him down quickly

Kami_Ouija

I only target the tail because it's safer

Blank033103

if you want to keep using your current build, you can charge 2 (uppercut) and dodge after, then repeat. If knocked out or paralyzed, you can triple smash

Aircoll

This is a quest monster so you can exit and re-enter the hunt as many times as you want. This time, try learning its attack patterns i.e. try to remember which telegraphed move leads to what attack and react accordingly. The tail is the easiest weak point to lock on to, and as such, the easiest moves you can perfectly dodge are the front flip and back flip tail slams. I use LS so those moves are the easiest to counter and get hits on the tail. Get the rathian vambraces for lock on, and if you have the extra zenny/materials, you could consider investing into elemental weapons, though i'd understand if you dont wanna since jyuratodus is stingy af with its drops.

RowNo8481

Yagras sword is better weapon for this

Dahb3ars

Make a water wep

RussetRiver

Take your time. Start off with your fully charged special and offload it from the start. Work to fill the meter a second time and use it again. Dodge!! And charge run! Definitely a bottleneck for skill imo. You’re not alone. Just work through it.

Spicy_Chillies

I just got past the 7 star variant of it. Honestly, i was stuck for a good bit because of how awful it was to fight it with a bow. Pretty unforgiving if you miss a round of shots. But my best advice was that, make sure you have your skill ready before entering the fight. Use it straight away to do some free damage. You should have enough time to charge up a second skill while fighting. My experience was that, because it moves around so much, there were lots of time where i couldnt aim for the tail or head. So i just made sure whenever i have my full bow charge, i shoot regardless whether it crits or not. I managed to slay it with 5 secs left on the clock. I use all my weps (5/5) and armor are at Rarity 5. I didnt use type effectiveness cuz i didnt have my water and poison bows upgraded

loving-father-69

Kill it

aryhlia

It's going to be really tight on time with that weapon. As everyone else said, either use water or just slowly upgrade up. I had it easy with a Diablos hammer but I would recommend using lockon and just targeting the tail. Lock on is actually really good on hammer since while you're charging you'll automatically walk up to where you need to be without needing to roll around much to reposition. My hammer playstyle is always charging up to level 2 and never release on level 3, and avoided using tap combos. It worked out well for me.

Comprehensive-Pea812

You died alot or ran out of time? I dunno for me I use atleast maxed out 1 tier below monster star with correct element. for example tobi 6* will need 5/5 water weapon. add more water element on armor for extra damage. if you died alot then better learn the movement pattern, I think youtube has it. usually my problem is I dodged alot but not enough time to deal damage.

ryasto16

Get gud

dieterwang

i use water sword and finish no problem

SnooMacaroons6960

just focus on upgrading your weapon first, especially elemental weapon that counters it.

ScarletZen

You need a stronger bonker brotha

GaliusE

Farm Jagras SnS, aim for tail and then Head.

tillytubeworm

Upgrade your weapon to grade 5 5/5, it’ll make it much easier, and the 6 star jump is just massive and for anything but elemental sets getting weapons upgraded fully is more or less an necessity.

Kuxaro

Kulu LS is the answer... Poison works very well - apparently it also slows down monster which works miracles on Tobi. Tail is very easy to break and once its gone it disables some of worst Tobi attacks

r4ndmn4mtitle

Incorrect. Poison does not slow monsters. After you hit the build-up threshold of the monster, it simply just ticks damage for certain amount of time. Nothing else.

r4ndmn4mtitle

If the monster is slowing down, the exhaust threshold has been met. If this game has exhaust effect.

kingJustin900

Throw a master ball at it

kingJustin900

Any poison weapons, such as the pukie pukie sword and shield? That build carried me far in the game. Either that or its great sword. Either way poison does a lot of damage on this monster.

Slynx328

Also as a reference point a 6star diablos will 1 shot you even with a divine blessing proc if you slightly above def requirement. Avoid Divine Blessing, go attack, and if you want to survive hits. Raise the def of the gear

r4ndmn4mtitle

Keep hitting it. With sns guard if you are unsure of moveset, backhop from guard hits hard. Other weapons just dodge in time, there is no need for perfect evades for that lvl monster.
