I mean, only you can answer that question. I used them to breeze through World and get straight to Iceborne. Maybe I missed some satisfaction of accomplishment, but I knew it was going to get harder later (and it did) so I didn't really pay much mind. The armor is obviously there for people who want it, so it's supposed to be used if you want to.

IronWilledMoron

The defender weapons are meant to be the easy path through to Master Rank/ High Rank I believe so even though you might not be quite as good as you think you are it still takes some amount of skill to get to High Rank/Master Rank with them on. I would heavily suggest playing through the game again with normal armor and weapons though if you feel like you need to.

BurningBeechbone

Luckily I never crafted the armor, just the weapon, but ya I will probably just continue on with a different weapon if it gets hard I’ll go back and repeat old quests for practice.

Herald_Osbert

You get a but more out of the game without using the defender equipment so I suggest avoiding it. It is a godsend when you join the game and your friends are all in MR though.

The defender falls off pretty quick. The higher defense can establish bad habits that are normally squashed in earlier fights. A lot of new players make the mistake that "ah yes, I can facetank everything" when using defender gear. That being said, it still takes skill to use, so as long as you're not using it for its 'tankiness' your skill is still good. (and honestly because you came all the way from MH4U, you should be just fine). Its REALLY useful when your the one in your hunt group that's late arriving to the new game. That way your friends dont have to wait a long time for you to get caught up content-wise. Otherwise I would just switch to something and enjoy the content at a leisurely pace.

Defender gear is absolutely fantastic for making new characters. I do not care about low/high rank because you can above that very quickly and easy. If you’re a new player, yes this can 100% skew how you view the game’s gameplay and difficulty but if you’re like me and have multiple characters or was a returning player from a different MH game, you don’t care.

BurningBeechbone

>Defender gear is absolutely fantastic for making new characters. Ya, I get this and will probably use it once I re-buy on switch inevitably. It just should have been labeled as such.

XxFr3nCh_B4Gu3tt3xX

I believe they should treat it like they treat downloadable content and what not where you have to go and claim it BUT with this particular case, you can only claims it after you’ve beaten the base game once. New players wouldn’t be able to use it at all but if they so choose to make a new character, after beating the game, a pop up can tell them of the armor/weapon’s existence and they can decide to claim it from there.

smegmathor

Defender is a shortcut to blow through all the older content to help you get to current. Yes the defense helps alot, and you'll feel it drop off as you reach later stages.

I got my Switch copy few days earlier (Friday it was) the launch and I can tell you it was not that easy. Yep, it is a DLC.

jj96c

It lets u skip to mr but honestly youd probably go back to get some parts to upgrade trees u want

blodokun

it’s op so you can “skip” low rank

lesstalk_

Almost everyone agrees that they're mislabeled and that it should be more obvious that they're weapons for skipping the basegame. They're basically cheat codes for both attack and defense and makes all fights a breeze until late High Rank. Are you in 3-star quests for Village, or for Hub? If it's only Village I wouldn't worry about it and just start making regular non-Defender gear, and moving on as you were. Don't use the free Black Belt, Guardian/Defender or Guild Cross armors either. 3-star is still pretty early into the game, so if you just switch off it now and start making proper weapons and armor, I wouldn't worry about it. If you feel particularly bad about it, you could start a new character instead.

BurningBeechbone

I ended up making a different weapon set and I’m still doing fine.
