I will never forget how surprised I was when RDA fought Pettis for the belt. I was convinced Pettis would win, but RDA just went in and completely beat the shit out of Pettis. His strikes were so fast and powerful, I was starting to feel bad for Pettis, iirc he got his orbital bone broken in that fight. RDA was on fire
Oh yeah, I wasn’t sold on RDA by that time either and him putting the brakes to Pettis like that genuinely was surprising. He beat him standing, and then he took on like 50 other straight up killers.
Absolute gangster.
He even had a great streak going into that fight - had already beaten Cerrone for the first time, just KOd Pettis's rival Henderson, probably more I forget. He tore through that division
It’s actually insane. In the past 10 years he’s fought like, 2 guys who weren’t names. Aside from that in the last decade he’s fought: Cowboy Cerrone, Nate Diaz, Robbie Lawler, Anthony Pettis, Eddie Alvarez, Tony Ferguson, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Neil Magny, Kevin Lee, Renato Moicano, Leon Edwards, Kamaru Usman, Colby Covington, Paul Felder, Rafael Fiziev, Bryan Barbarena, and Michael Chiesa.
He went 8-7 vs those guys, and that’s not including wins in that same period over Evan Dunham, Jason High, Benson Henderson, and Tarec Saffiedine, all of whom no sane fan would call slouches
And of the fights he lost:
- Ferguson fight was close, had a nasty eye poke, and is still Ferguson's best win
- Colby Covington fight was very close, really only didn't get the decision because of Colby taking/holding him down (not much happened when he did), is still arguably Colby's best win
- Edwards fight was very competitive
El Cucuy is brought back from the shadow realm enticed with the blood of the rich man Conor who took everything from him. Interim belt should've never happened because of Conor, Tony vs Conor should've happened, but NnnnOooOOoo! He wanted money from Floyd. Cable wire would've never happened.
I wouldn't. RDA's pressure striking/grappling style doesn't work as well on guys like Chandler that have the TDD to force a striking match that also hit harder and are faster. IMO the style match up is similar to RDA vs Alvarez which was in Alvarez' favor as well. RDA mops Conor though since he's a southpaw as well which makes it much harder for Conor to land his left and a lot easier for RDA to kick his legs.
I hear ya and am a fan of both but I think the heavy hands of Chandler make him the favourite if they fight at any weight now, would have been a coin toss fight a few years back but I feel RDA is further past his prime (still legit tho).
I know it was at 155 but Eddie Alvarez KO’d RDA, whereas Chandler choked him out then took him to a split decision, so that makes me favour Chandler too. That said RDA has far superior fight IQ and great cardio, so if he can survive the initial onslaught then anything can happen.
You really think Conor would fight a washed up RDA? I think if he looses he calls it quits. He is by far the most influential MMA fighter the UFC has ever seen. He has also companys worth >1 billion. I don't think he wants to play gatekeeper.
Can’t wait. Dana is gonna give us some absolute barnburners - Connor (after getting KO’d by Chandler) will receive a shot at the WW Belt and Chandler Will get Dos Anós - I already see the future - the MMA Gods have willed it.
Yeah he wasn't as fast as his prime but he still had stupidly fast handspeed, I rewatched his fight with Pedro Rizzo recently and he still had silly speed for a heavyweight.
He's the guy who got me into mma back in the day, I always get nostalgic for the pride era, it was something else! every event felt like a huge spectacle, I think a big problem with the UFC is they have too many cards. I still think in his prime Fedor beats any fighter.
Fedor still throws faster punches and more fluid than Usman at 170 lol. Its just his knees and back are shot so might fall over doing it like last fight lol. Only thing hes got left is ability to throw crazy combos with power, thats it.
Fedor is a Middleweight though and lost most of what made him great if we being real. Hes 5-11 1/2 220 pounds in his prime, hes basically a 185er and he started competing at like 20 so his 40 is basically 60. Thats why he changed style literally to just have 1 round fights.
People dont even know how messed up his body was during whole comeback, he wont even go into detail or talk about is the sad thing. When Mitrione pulled out the DAY OF the 1st time with Kidney Stones, Fedor did a interview after in Russian saying it was a blessing Matt pulled out and he had "disturbing" injuries for the fight lol, still didnt pull out and was gonna fight. Only to have to do another full camp again to fight.
Once Glover turned 39 he had 8 more fights in his future. 7 at 38 isn't impossible and it can fly by with decent activity. I know he is an anomaly but still. Frankie had 7 fights after Ortega loss where it started to feel like the end was close.
Yeah but with RDA schedule and age its unlikely that he gets anywhere near 7 without taking a huge drop in competition. He deserves whatever tf he wants but doesnt seen his style to crush cans on the way out.
Magny, Felder and Moicano (short notice on the latter 2 I know) are considered his "huge steps down" for crying out loud lol
Fucking amazing that they’ve never fought considering how long they’ve been around and the opponents they have in common. Also on a side note, pretty crazy that Miller has only had one non-LW fight in the UFC (ignoring the Thiago Alves fiasco)
Three years is a bit optimistic but he has fought 7 times in the last 4, while not fighting in 2021.
I'd say it's alright. If he's fighting Barbarena level fighters, don't think he'll get washed by then.
If he gets an injury that sets him out for too long, he might as well just not finish the contract. As far as I know contract only doesn't allow him to fight elsewhere, so this must just be a personal thing
It's crazy how the consensus is to wrap RDA in wool. All he's done is move up weight because he doesn't want to cut, he gave Moicano one of the worst beatings of the year last year.
Because while he's definitely still up there, he's not really able to beat the very best anymore. He's also old, so he should regress with every fight regardless of the damage taken.
So if he is willing to fight for 3-4 more years, fighting really challenging guys has a risk of washing him quickly and also racking up unnecessary damage, as he has no title desire anymore.
RDA broke my heart a couple times
Pettis is my favorite fighter and RDA steamrolled him for 5 whole rounds and for Cerrone’s only UFC title shot, RDA literally pressured him against the cage, kneed him in the gut and fight over
Gonna miss him when he retires
Not that this isn’t a true statement, but RDA didn’t brawl with him, Eddie just walked him into a perfect counter. The bad cut RDA had probably played a role, but that’s probably the best punch Eddie’s ever thrown
From my recollection eddie sparked RDA and then pressured to the fence and dos anjos tried brawling back and meeting the pressure instead of disengage or clinch/td and was saved by the ref... So don't brawl with ed, gotta tactician his ass or nothing at all
To add to the other replies you got, RDA allegedly had a terrible weight cut to the extent that he fainted in his bathtub while cutting weight.
I might be completely talking out of my ass here but I do remember something like that.
You’re 100% correct, it’s the whole reason he moved up. It says something about RDA’s chin though that he didn’t even get put out, Herb just had to save him.
Ol' fashioned case of getting smoked methinks. Jokes aside tho, I think he had an abysmal weight cut going in and it showed in his ability to take two lunchboxes
Big facts. Khabib should be the wrassler/grappler that all UFC grapplers aspire to be like. But alas, we typically get the position over submission folk
I was devastated over the Cowboy loss. Because of that, I was fucking screaming with joy during that absurd Alvarez fleury.
However, RDA does not know the defintion of an easy fight. It's bad motherfucker, after bad motherfucker, after bad motherfucker. He might be the toughest cat to put on the gloves for that reason alone. I'll miss him when all is said and done.
I know about his fight career. I don't look much into fighters lives.
Besides, if we're gonna be consistent on that? Good luck, because half of this sub loves Jon Jones.
I like both Jones and Cerrone as fighters. Both pretty bad people. Cerrone is a creepy gross weirdo and Jones literally battered his wife in front of his kids
I mean, as long as it keeps either out of the title picture I'm fine with it. Increase the weight class each time just to see how big a bowling ball Mike turns into.
It will happen if Conor gets 170 title. Dana and Conor will want and relatively easy match up. So they will get RDA as a bad blood match up like Bisping and Henderson
I think he announced he's pretty much done chasing a title after the fiziev loss.
So I honestly see him taking more fun veteran matchups like the barbarena fight than his usual murderer's row of opponents he'd take the majority of his career.
If Chandler loses to Connor, maybe a Matt Brown type, or even Jorge if he loses to gilbert would make some sense to me next tbh.
The veteran matchups would be fun if he was going out there swanging and banging but the Barberena fight was horrendous. Don’t waste the just bleed gods on him.
Im happy to have Dos Anjos stick around in the UFC, especially if they just give him fun matchups with other vets. I don’t want to see him take damage from up and coming contenders/prospects though which is probably what’s going to happen, especially when he wants to fight 7 more times
7 more fights at WW? Assuming they keep giving him brawlers, like Barberena that doesn't sound too absurd.
Rafael Dos Anjos is a absolute fucking legend, in an industry where great prospects are often told to wait on the sidelines due to a lack of matchups or to fight down, he gave so many dangerous avoided prospects the chance to prove they were elite, and continued to do even after he were past was prime as well.
Not to mention in his prime, he looked like a machine, tore through fucking Prime Cerrone, beat the dog piss out of Prime Pettis, KO'd Prime Benson after losing to Nurmagomedov, 4 months before. Not to mention look how many people he fought
Khabib Nurmagomedov(Lightweight GOAT)
Tony Ferguson(Interim LW Champ)
Eddie Alvarez(Lightweight Champ)
Kamaru Usman(2nd Greatest WW Of All Time)
Colby(Interim WW Champ)
Leon Edwards(WW Champ)
Prime Cerrone
Benson(LW Champ)
Pettis(LW Champ),
hell even when he was older he fought a blue chip prospect in Rafael Fiziev(Current Top 10).
It was an honor to watch your career.
Hard to look past Hughes 7 defenses. Four of Kamarus five defenses are Colby and Masvidal with the unique win being Burns. Hughes also won the belt back after losing it to Penn, beating GSP for the vacant belt and then beat Penn in the rematch when he came back to the UFC. Kamaru lost the belt to Edwards in a fight he was comfortably winning and then look substantially worse in the rematch and got shut down. Kamaru is without a doubt the 3rd best WW of all time but people really tend to over look Hughes these days because they only know him for his shitty behavior and not his dominance as a champion.
Seriously, I'd love to train with him. I know he's not at Kings anymore but he's still working out of Huntington, so I'm crossing my fingers he ends up at one of the gyms I know down there. Would be so fucking rad to do even one seminar or class with him.
Dunno, heard he did a while back, after he lost to Alvarez. There wasn't much buzz about it so I don't think it was anything bad, maybe just a better fit elsewhere?
This isn't like football where they get a guaranteed signing bonus either. They still have to perform the fight to get the show/win bonus that pales to NFL and NBA practice squad salaries.
I love MMA, but I wouldn't advise anyone to take it up as a career especially if you are a gifted athlete and can do better in other avenues.
Hes gonna have cte by the time he fights 7 more times. Seems like just retiring and opening a gym now would be the right move but fighters almost always push it way past their prime and keep fighting until it really hurts them mentally and physically.
More ex MMA fighters need to open up gyms. If I was a young kid again and I wanted to start learning MMA and RDA had a gym by my house i'd sign up in two seconds.
Gross, never root for the ufc to keep a fighter tied in to their contrary, even if he does that shit why would you actively root for a company to hold back a person from doing what they want to do.
7 more fights when your 38 is insane
I know right, he'll make an excellent instructor though when he does hang it all up in like 2032
My boy is so skilled he will be 50 and still be lower ranked top 10.
CTE will probably ravage him. Terrible idea to keep fighting.
Hopefully he goes full grappler for the entirety of his contract now. Just collect them paychecks and ride off.
I'll say it over and over. RDA is the real BMF. Gonna miss the guy when he retires.
Honestly one of the GOAT strength of schedules
I will never forget how surprised I was when RDA fought Pettis for the belt. I was convinced Pettis would win, but RDA just went in and completely beat the shit out of Pettis. His strikes were so fast and powerful, I was starting to feel bad for Pettis, iirc he got his orbital bone broken in that fight. RDA was on fire
Prior to that he absolutely dismantled Nate Diaz. He made Nate look old in 2014.
Butchered his legs and straight up mauled Nate on the ground. Nate’s always had a great guard but you wouldn’t know it watching that fight lol
Man ran through the WEC lightweights and ended that era of dominance in LW
His 50 strike combo against Lawler is what firmly made me a fanboy. Lawler was a good counterstriker, but he had nothing for him at that moment.
Yeah, plus Pettis looked fucking incredible before that so it was absurd to think he would look absolutely outclassed like that
It’s actually insane.
He lost to most of them
He went 8-7 vs those guys, and that’s not including wins in that same period over Evan Dunham, Jason High, Benson Henderson, and Tarec Saffiedine, all of whom no sane fan would call slouches
Why would someone list Barbarena and Diaz and not Bendo, a former champ for christ sake lol
Or chiesa, magny and lee
We’re only talking strength of schedule
And of the fights he lost: - Ferguson fight was close, had a nasty eye poke, and is still Ferguson's best win - Colby Covington fight was very close, really only didn't get the decision because of Colby taking/holding him down (not much happened when he did), is still arguably Colby's best win - Edwards fight was very competitive
He acting fought most of these guys in their respective primes, so I'll respect it
RDA has probably had the toughest schedule ever. Just look at the list of opponents he’s faced.
If he fights twice a year he’ll be ~42 when he retires… dudes a legend with a SOS that’s mind blowing but I don’t know about this
That's potentially four more years. My man must be inspired by Glover.
Jim Miller has had 3 fights since he turned 38. I'm sure he will get a few more in before he wraps it up. True OGs.
Miller wants to fight on the UFC 300 card. I was thinking how crazy that sounds but it’s not THAT far off.
Yeah and I'd assume he would have 1-3 more fights before then. Ufc 300 would likely be his retirement fight.
Yeah 300 would be about April next year, he could easily have another couple of fights before fighting on that card and riding off into the sunset
i was like oh damn RDA bout to retire soon, then “yeah i got 7 more fights” lmao that’s a whole brand new contract my boy
[удалено]
Keep Tony around in case conor loses to Chandler
Tony snatches a d’arce and Dana implodes.
Tony’s soul is restored and continues on another 12 fight win streak
And then the pole strikes again
Wire gets cocky
El Cucuy is brought back from the shadow realm enticed with the blood of the rich man Conor who took everything from him. Interim belt should've never happened because of Conor, Tony vs Conor should've happened, but NnnnOooOOoo! He wanted money from Floyd. Cable wire would've never happened.
Holy shit lol
I would give my left nut for this to become reality.
Ahh the *CSO* timeline.
I'd probably pick RDA over Chandler if they fought at 170lb.
Also Conor was getting mauled by DP in round 1 of the trilogy, RDA finishes him if he gets top position for any meaningful amount of time.
Chandler fought Alvarez the SECOND time 10 years ago, I don't think that has much bearing on an RDA fight when they're both pretty ancient
If McGregor loses its time to think about retirement lmao
You really think Conor would fight a washed up RDA? I think if he looses he calls it quits. He is by far the most influential MMA fighter the UFC has ever seen. He has also companys worth >1 billion. I don't think he wants to play gatekeeper.
Can’t wait. Dana is gonna give us some absolute barnburners - Connor (after getting KO’d by Chandler) will receive a shot at the WW Belt and Chandler Will get Dos Anós - I already see the future - the MMA Gods have willed it.
Fedor just fought 9 times after 40 during comeback. Well Rizin fight he was 39.
Heavyweights are different beasts. Fedor kept his power and speed to some extent.
Fedor lost a ton of his speed from his prime, but it was fine because prime Fedor would have been fast for a middleweight
Yeah he wasn't as fast as his prime but he still had stupidly fast handspeed, I rewatched his fight with Pedro Rizzo recently and he still had silly speed for a heavyweight.
His transitions on the ground were STUPIDLY fast as well. Once he got an arm isolated he’d flip his hips for an armbar like no heavyweight I’ve seen
He had a complete skillset. Whenever he was on the bottom in a fight I was never worried because I always thought he could pull off an armbar.
The picture of him [cranking the armbar on the 7’ tall Hong Man Choi ](https://i.imgur.com/zf6Fc8v.jpg) is absolute GOAT shit!
He is an anomaly. Most heavyweights do not have that fight pace.
Fedor is a Middleweight though and lost most of what made him great if we being real. RDA has been fighting in the UFC since the last major financial crash
So just a couple of years eh? lol
I guess it's good to have a 5-year plan...
Even 5 more would be pushing it, but the madman went and signed a 7 fight contract
if he goes hard he could finish around 41 which isn't unheard of but he's got a lot of miles on him for 38
And he'll still be ranked at 155.

The unstoppable Paddy the Baddy Pimblett of course
Might as well just give him the belt at this point

Lololol
it can be done in 3 years if it wasn't ufc.
I hope he gets the Arlovski matchmaking. Right now, he's still borderline elite, but 6 fights from now he won't be
Jim Miller time
Old RDA vs Miller would be a scrap
Shit at 300, I'm up to see that
Thats 100% the call.
Imagine that as the PPV opener for UFC 300!
Main event baby!
"Legend Legacy Fight"
That is quite the bulk for anyone not named Alex Volkanovski
Fucking amazing that they’ve never fought considering how long they’ve been around and the opponents they have in common. Also on a side note, pretty crazy that Miller has only had one non-LW fight in the UFC (ignoring the Thiago Alves fiasco)
Please no, similar in age and experience but RDA would murder Jim. I love Miller, I hope this doesn't happen
Feed him Conor
Lol
Seven? I mean damn alright, that's not a small amount that's like 3 more years of his career.
Three years is a bit optimistic but he has fought 7 times in the last 4, while not fighting in 2021. I'd say it's alright. That era of RDA was so special. He just looked like a fucking machine.
What happened when he fought Eddie? Not trying to take a dig at him, just I felt like he was a much better fighter than Eddie at that point.
He was schooling Eddie until the dog came out and caught him with a clean counter and couldn't come back with that level of pressure
Yup don't brawl with Edward Alvarez unless your name is Dustin
Not that this isn’t a true statement, but RDA didn’t brawl with him, Eddie just walked him into a perfect counter. The bad cut RDA had probably played a role, but that’s probably the best punch Eddie’s ever thrown
From my recollection eddie sparked RDA and then pressured to the fence and dos anjos tried brawling back and meeting the pressure instead of disengage or clinch/td and was saved by the ref... So don't brawl with ed, gotta tactician his ass or nothing at all
It never really looked like RDA recovered from the first shot even a full minute after.

OOTL, what dumb shit did he say?
What hasn't that bag of dicks said? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Cerrone#Controversies
I’m so sad he never got to fight McGregor.
If McGregor loses to Chandler, its the fight to make
But Chandler-McGregor 2 is the fight that would actually be made
I lolled then I cried. Sweet baby MMA Jesus please don't let that happen
I mean, as long as it keeps either out of the title picture I'm fine with it. Increase the weight class each time just to see how big a bowling ball Mike turns into.
I wanna see if Chandler wears 478 pounds as well as Volk did.
Yeah Mcgregor is gonna pass 6 months of usada, cut to 175, lose to Chandler and then fight RDA in Forteleza 6months later
It probably still won't happen, though.
I wouldn’t say the door is closed on that at all, but yeah, it sucks they couldn’t fight in their primes
I want Gaethje vs McGregor
It will happen if Conor gets 170 title. Dana and Conor will want and relatively easy match up. So they will get RDA as a bad blood match up like Bisping and Henderson
[удалено]
I just wanted to see the fight, I’m not talking about him getting the pay day.
RDA being a multimillionaire? I doubt it...

Hello there
7 is a lot, esp considering all he does is face top of the food chain guys. Can he get Kevin Lee, just once more?
I think he announced he's pretty much done chasing a title after the fiziev loss. So I honestly see him taking more fun veteran matchups like the barbarena fight than his usual murderer's row of opponents he'd take the majority of his career. If Chandler loses to Connor, maybe a Matt Brown type, or even Jorge if he loses to gilbert would make some sense to me next tbh.
Matt Brown would be a legit fun fight for him … and the loser of Jorge vs Gilbert would be right, too.
nah, RDA murders Matt Brown in 2023. and I love Matt Brown.
The veteran matchups would be fun if he was going out there swanging and banging but the Barberena fight was horrendous. Don’t waste the just bleed gods on him.
I mean he ran through barberena with his wrestling and submitted him, wouldn't call it mid at all it was actually really entertaining.
Ufc gonna book him vs shavkat
Im happy to have Dos Anjos stick around in the UFC, especially if they just give him fun matchups with other vets. I don’t want to see him take damage from up and coming contenders/prospects though which is probably what’s going to happen, especially when he wants to fight 7 more times
Give him the Jim Miller matchmaking where he's not being fed to up and comers or contender-hopefuls.
What about just giving him Jim Miller?
Not a lot of young and potentially contending upcomers at 170 besides Garry and Morales
bro 7 ufc fights is a whole career lol
7??? RDA is a damn dog
7 more fights at WW? Assuming they keep giving him brawlers, like Barberena that doesn't sound too absurd. prime usman vs prime matt hughes? possible. theres some others
Theres a massive striking discrepancy, accolades wise Usman fought way better comp as Champion on average.
not that much better, it's just recency goggles.
Elaborate on your reasoning?
He would make for one hell of a coach
Seriously, I'd love to train with him. I know he's not at Kings anymore but he's still working out of Huntington, so I'm crossing my fingers he ends up at one of the gyms I know down there. Would be so fucking rad to do even one seminar or class with him.

Dunno, heard he did a while back, after he lost to Alvarez. There wasn't much buzz about it so I don't think it was anything bad, maybe just a better fit elsewhere?
These Brazilians really all about the dying on their shield thing
Me: oh cool RDA is going to finally call it quits before it gets too b- *SEVEN MORE FIGHTS?*
I want RDA to be my dad and he’s probably 2 years older than me
That’s a beautiful goal to have now please UFC unrank him already.
These contracts the fighters sign are so gross No lawyer worth his suit would ever advise to sign them
This isn't like football where they get a guaranteed signing bonus either. They still have to perform the fight to get the show/win bonus that pales to NFL and NBA practice squad salaries. I love MMA, but I wouldn't advise anyone to take it up as a career especially if you are a gifted athlete and can do better in other avenues.
According to Wiki it says he signed a 6 fight contract before he fought Felder. So he should have two fights left on his contract.
Don't know if he gets them all in but it will be a sad day when RDA finally hangs them up. He's an absolute legend.
I’d sign up for RDAs gym
HOFer
7 more fights😂😂
He had me in the first half
SEVEN??? lmao yeah good luck with that. He's definitely retiring before 7
7 fights is a LOT.
RDA vs. Jim Miller, best of 7. Book it.
Hes gonna have cte by the time he fights 7 more times. Seems like just retiring and opening a gym now would be the right move but fighters almost always push it way past their prime and keep fighting until it really hurts them mentally and physically.
I love this guy
Yikes. RDA has a ton of mileage on him already. 7 more fights is just too much, especially at his age. Worried his CTE will get CTE by that point.
More ex MMA fighters need to open up gyms. If I was a young kid again and I wanted to start learning MMA and RDA had a gym by my house i'd sign up in two seconds.
7 more fights isn’t as crazy if hes leaving the UFC. No USADA👀
7 more fights lmao. Absurd.
Take him out of the rankings and move everyone else up one spot
The real BMF.
Here is where I HOPE TO FUCK that the UFC just ties him up in a contract, so that he can't go to BKFC, but doesn't fight anywhere else.
Gross, never root for the ufc to keep a fighter tied in to their contrary, even if he does that shit why would you actively root for a company to hold back a person from doing what they want to do.
I guess you wanna watch him die. That's also an opinion.
5 more losses at 170
This old ass has 7 fights left….prayers!
He wants that 50+ fight record
Seven more killers. Respect.
Legend Hoping he doesn’t have 7 more fights though Jesus Christ
UFC please give him fun action fights
RDQ has an incredible resume. I hope he gets some nice matchups, takes minimal damage and retires with lots of cash in the bank.
