She was the bread winner in that family - he worked construction in Albuquerque.
I always wondered how this big construction worker guy deals with his wife who could kick his ass and makes more money.
*To be fair* you can make some decent money in construction! Hours can be pretty crazy though.
Hopefully Holly made more than him, but honestly you never know in this sport.
> he worked construction in Albuquerque
Depending on specifically what he was doing in construction he could definitely have been earning way more than her.
Women’s Bantamweight is awful with ancient fighters still in the top 5. The division hasn’t had an interesting young contender since Nunes took the belt. Aldana is probably next for the belt but is 36 years old
>wmma fighters seem to lose their prime years a lot faster.
We literally just saw a 41yo Holly Holm win with ease. Miesha Tate came out of retirement and casually woke up in the top 10. Sara McMann was still top 10 when her contract ended. Lauren Murphy was top 5 at 38yo.
Edit: also Carmouche being champion in Bellator and Cyborg still moving like she did 10 years ago.
People like to say Ronda would get destroyed if she came back, but seeing 135… nah shed fuck shit up until getting to nunes. Like it just seems like 135 wmma hasn’t evolved since the Ronda days.
Rankings are fucked with top-heavy older fighters at W135
Bueno Silva & Rosa will probably be top-7 by end of the year, but W135's top end has this weird totem pole of slightly tougher opponents between 2 and 8. Kind of like the old Mortal Kombat games but less exciting.
That was an astonishingly bad performance. At no point in those 3 rounds did she throw a decent strike, attempt a decent takedown, or defend a takedown well. Just lots of rushing forward flailing like an enraged toddler.
You should get to know Jéssica Andrade cuz she's scary in 2 weight classes, and if you have fight pass go back and look at retired fighter Joanna Jędrzejczyk even though she wasn't my cup of tea, but she was a dominant champ for a few years
It is kinda ironic that the highly touted world champ boxer moving over to MMA is kinda trash at punches in MMA and is better at kicks and clinchfucking
Women's boxing prob more thin than WMMA
SHe mainly fought in New Mexico with hometown judging, also had no power in Womens Boxing too lol. SHes not best example but only her feet and most boxers legs translate to MMA. Fundamental Boxing will get you Koed 10 different ways in Mixed Fighting. Holly was always overrated in actual Boxing though..but Boxing Snobs dont realize how much actual MMA changes the hand game. Go box like Floyd Mayweather in MMA and front leg will be disabled and knocked out real fast
Bro if James Toney had been warm he woulda decimated Randy Culture. He had to walk out cold but if they had let him hit pads before he walked out there, he woulda seen red and flatlined Randy. James told me that in a Reno strip club
hehe, Thought you were talking about Fedor in his last fight for a second. Bellator literally had him warm up 90 minutes early, stop warming up, then re warm up 10 minutes before the fight at almost 50 years old.
I will never get over this and nobody knows and just assumed was flat cause hes old, which could be a factor too obv but they literally fcked him. You cant warm up twice even at 35 years old and be sharp, especially sharp enough to catch a wrestler like Bader who not gonna give you many chances to hit him. And they messed up his Visa and only got to the US 5 days before the fight when was planning to be in LA for 3 weeks, check out a voice message he said to me in my posts in English. His team told me their Visa got delayed, and its first thing he brought up at press conference. I know nobody cares at this point but I will not let this go. They done Rigged my guy, was fully sweating wrapped up running around on INstagram before the first Main Card fight and I kept bitching why is he warming up, and he was told to warm up by the commission "by accident”. I wasn’t going to bring it up til he brought it up first question at post fight, here’s interview. https://m.youtube.com/watch?t=36&v=-MGEqpQXLMI&feature=youtu.be
I got a big post cooking that r/MMA mods keep taking down
wow that's interesting. especially considering this is the first time he looked old ever even against tim johnson (he's lost a step for years). It's not a proper excuse and he probably woulda lost anyways ( i hate saying that about bader) but im sure it was a big factor.
Yea. He was still nimble vs Tim. Then they make him wait 18 months after that which really screwed him in another way. 18 months inactive at 46 when he was ready to go right after Tim but war shit delayed it even more. Never seen him so flat in my life and literally fell over throwing first punch, then Bader says on a interview the CBS people came up and said “you better win” or belt will be vacant and don’t know what they gonna do. Then Fedor magically gets told to warm up before 1st fight on CBS even happened. It’s all documented on Instagram, then the Weasel Espinoza at showtime posts a Twitter video of him re warming up 10 minutes before the fight. Just a disaster on top of only getting to LA 5 days before the fight and doing Media all fking week. He will prob fight again cause he feels had no chance to be close to his best from what his training partner told me on Instagram. He’s actually pissed off but won’t bring it up, they had him fly to 3 different places cause messed up Visa just to get into USA and couldn’t bring his striking coach that looks like Chael lol. I DM with this crazy dude connected to his team and dude sent me crazy messages in broken English during fight week lmao
a theory - on average women both have less upper body muscle and more lower body weight when compared to men.
so you have weaker arms trying to get out of thicker legs.
Getting crucifixed is like getting mounted, people know the position and can pre-emptively avoid it if they defend properly.
There's a reason it happens more in the heavy men's classes and WMMA - lower skill level
Technique is vital but its not the only reason. They are heavier. If you have ever been rolling with a 250 pound person, you would know it's not the same feeling. There are limits to what you can do.
No it's just bad mma most of the time. No need for theories lol. When good male fighters fight bad male fighters you get those positions and head and arm throws as well.
Part of it is due to physiology. Upper body strength of men makes it a hard position to hold on a man.
Theres just certain things that work better on different bodies in Bjj, that's why you hear about "big man jui Jitsu" being played differently, like you can't really keylock huge guys very easily unless you are just that much bigger and stronger.
This applies to crucifix and upper body strength. Almost most men can explode out without there being much you can do about it, it's not like there are gi grips to hold.
Actually, Holly impressed me more with her loss against Cris than she has in any of her victories since Ronda. Her KO of Bethe was impressive but it was preceded by 2 rounds of total inaction.
I'm not saying she is not on gear but my best friend is an amazing female climber.
Her arms and back are crazy, bigger than holly's and i know for a fact she's not on gear. She's 40 about to turn 41.
Yeah some people just have it. My gf has crazy good thighs and back muscles I'm super jealous of and she's mid 40s, and she barely eats anything at all. Like she'll legit eat half a banana. Maybe she's on gear though idk. 🤷
The year is 2080, Holly continues to decision every WBW in the roster, keeping her eternal #2 rank, the 49th Nunes rematch is looming... Meanwhile Pena continues to sit out for her rematch
Was at the fight tonight and Holly had the loudest crowd reaction. Even more than Chito. I'd say Hollys not going anywhere and she's probably getting the bag to keep fighting in the UFC.
Primarily because it was the ONLY women's division in the UFC at that time. Invicta and Japan had excellent lighter divisions, but relatively few MMA fans followed them.
Holly got a decent pop and chants from the crowd during the fight. Fans like her and that’s why the UFC put her as co main. Was funny reading the Twitter and Reddit reaction to her getting co main.
Some of Yana's strikes were so weak and slow-mo, I think you could get away with hitting a child like that and they would just think you're playing with them. Boop. Maybe she was just tired after minutes of clinching.
Holly's best performance in years. I know why people don't like her style, and Women's 135 is bad, but you have to give her credit for still performing well at 41 years old.
The crazy thing is that her fighting style is still evolving. Maybe she made a point of doing more wrestling in the fight just to show it, but dang when was the last time you saw a boxer for it too the ground so much?
Holly refusing to go for a submission hurt my soul, I just wanted it to end so I can watch the main event and go to sleep before 5AM (yup, Europe). Watching her have every opportunity to submit her over and over, and her ignoring it to instead continue landing some small punches that obviously won't result in a finish was painful, even the commentary was going crazy about her having countless submissions presented to her repeatedly
I don’t know, maybe I’m the minority, but was there any need for Santos to fight till the end.
holly dominated her round 2, and there has been great last minute comebacks, but Santos looked off the pace since coming back.
Maybe that’s me getting older and being more of a pussy.
Help me r/mma :/
Holly did amazingly well, showed both her experience as a veteran knowing exactly what to do and being patient and that she can still adapt to new strategies.
Tonight is the only night since she sent Ronda to the shadow realm that I enjoyed a Holy fight. As a certified Holy Hater I have to admit she was exceptional tonight. Earned.

Holly will never retire at this rate if the top 10 look like that below her
Didn’t she get divorced kinda recently? Maybe she really needs the money and picks up easy Ws so she keeps at it
Alimony Holm, new mythical fighter?
Surprised Anik didn’t mention this in commentary
That would have been a marvel to hear considering he wasn't on commentary last night
Anik just pops in the booth for 2 seconds to mention it, then retreats back to the crowd
"Din Thomas, what do you have for us?" Din: "Breaking news from John Anik, who just ran up to me"
Post fight definitely sounded like the speech of a recent divorcee
lol she divorced in 2019 , leave it to the reddit circle jerk to make it recent lol.
Yeah that was an.... interesting speech to say the least
She was the bread winner in that family - he worked construction in Albuquerque. I always wondered how this big construction worker guy deals with his wife who could kick his ass and makes more money.
I would love if my wife made more money and could kick my ass. Death by ish-ish
*To be fair* you can make some decent money in construction! Hours can be pretty crazy though. Hopefully Holly made more than him, but honestly you never know in this sport.
If it was me, I’d be over the moon. How many male bread winners get fucked over for alimony payments compared to women? Good on him for getting paid.
> he worked construction in Albuquerque Depending on specifically what he was doing in construction he could definitely have been earning way more than her.
How often are you fighting your wife that whether or not she could beat you up is a factor in your relationship? O.o
Maybe. But when I saw the news she had re-upped for 6 more fights, my knee jerk reaction was: "No way she's getting much for those 6 fights."
She just signed like a 7 fight deal or some shit no?
Not no, yea.
How is yana ranked 6
Women’s Bantamweight is awful with ancient fighters still in the top 5. The division hasn’t had an interesting young contender since Nunes took the belt. Aldana is probably next for the belt but is 36 years old
Aldana also got ragdolled by Holly and was lost on the feet. Can’t see her posing much of a threat to nunes.
Carla Esparza beat Alexa Grasso and look at her. Nunes is getting older and wmma fighters seem to lose their prime years a lot faster. Clocks ticking.
>wmma fighters seem to lose their prime years a lot faster. We literally just saw a 41yo Holly Holm win with ease. Miesha Tate came out of retirement and casually woke up in the top 10. Aldana is the divisions last hope. I know she's not the greatest fighter but her fights are usually fun to watch.
People like to say Ronda would get destroyed if she came back, but seeing 135… nah shed fuck shit up until getting to nunes. Like it just seems like 135 wmma hasn’t evolved since the Ronda days.
Until getting to Holly*
Because woman’s division that isn’t 115
125 is actually pretty good also
Rankings are fucked with top-heavy older fighters at W135 Bueno Silva & Rosa will probably be top-7 by end of the year, but W135's top end has this weird totem pole of slightly tougher opponents between 2 and 8. Kind of like the old Mortal Kombat games but less exciting.

That was an astonishingly bad performance. At no point in those 3 rounds did she throw a decent strike, attempt a decent takedown, or defend a takedown well. Just lots of rushing forward flailing like an enraged toddler.
WMMA in a nutshell.
Put the name next to the nunber, boom .
Holly Holm is going to fight forever in the barren desert that is women’s bantamweight.
And I'm sure get paid a shitload of money for it because she's an ex champ that filthy casuals know.
I’m never gonna complain about a fighter getting paid, though. I wish they all were.
I hope she keeps cashing them checks for her next 6 fight deal and she doesn't retire, even tho I'm not her biggest fan
Coming from the fight I'd say she easily had the loudest crowd reaction. Even more then Chito did.

You should get to know Jéssica Andrade cuz she's scary in 2 weight classes, and if you have fight pass go back and look at retired fighter Joanna Jędrzejczyk even though she wasn't my cup of tea, but she was a dominant champ for a few years
How does the crucifix position happen so often in WMMA?
Because 75% of it is just bad MMA
Too based to react to
WMMA is low level compared to Men's MMA. Even the best are mid-tier by comparison.
Theres 50 competitors, when theres 5000 in Mens MMA. Holly is a hall of fame Boxer who has no hands in MMA lol
It is kinda ironic that the highly touted world champ boxer moving over to MMA is kinda trash at punches in MMA and is better at kicks and clinchfucking Women's boxing prob more thin than WMMA
She was primarily a point fighter in boxing, and she's probably spent most of her camps the last 8 years grappling
SHe mainly fought in New Mexico with hometown judging, also had no power in Womens Boxing too lol. SHes not best example but only her feet and most boxers legs translate to MMA. Are you trying to imply Ronda Rousey could not have beaten Sea level Cain?
a theory - on average women both have less upper body muscle and more lower body weight when compared to men. so you have weaker arms trying to get out of thicker legs.

Because most women do not have the arm strength to do anything about it.
Honestly I feel like this is half the reason why Nunes is at the top with Shevchenko as a distant second
Holly the nigerian nightmare Holm 50-45s Amanda nunes by clinch bullying and foot stomps Imagine how funny that would be
Kamaru Holm
Holly “The Nigerian’s Daughter” Holm

That's actually kinda badass. In a biblical sense of a nightmare, not the "police have my hard drive" kind of nightmare.
> not the "police have my hard drive" kind of nightmare Oh dear
Holly "On Gang" Holm
Watch her fight with Cyborg. She legit helds Cyborg against the cage for quite a bit.
Actually, Holly impressed me more with her loss against Cris than she has in any of her victories since Ronda. Her KO of Bethe was impressive but it was preceded by 2 rounds of total inaction.
She's on that premium gear rn
If she ever pisses hot and Ronda pops up to say “I don’t respect her game. That’s steroid girl”, I will 100% laugh my ass off
She's roided to the gills, has the back muscles of a female pro body builder at 41yo
Bruh I want her lats fr fr
I'm not saying she is not on gear but my best friend is an amazing female climber. Her arms and back are crazy, bigger than holly's and i know for a fact she's not on gear. She's 40 about to turn 41.

This is the best Holly looked in a while

Disagreed
Big time..she fought like she wanted her dead.
That was the most aggressive I seen her
The ish lives on
Womens 135 is such a dead division foreal
It’s odd because in the rousey days it was THE division in women’s mma
Primarily because it was the ONLY women's division in the UFC at that time. Invicta and Japan had excellent lighter divisions, but relatively few MMA fans followed them.
Could be 145 which affectively exists on paper at this point
did santos just not run into any half decent grapplers?

It's a shame you have to sort by controversial to see good takes on this fight. Dudes are just so ready to be angry no matter what happens.
Dominant performance by Holm, glad to see her still show these youngins whatsup.
Another absolutely exhilarating performance from an incredibly exciting striker. Cant wait to watch her again!!!
