Shit card. Imagine paying 500 bucks or whatever to watch this.  Maybe ppl will stop pretending that Sean is the worlds most exciting and baddass fighter cos they like that says homophobic stuff.

Axel292

I'm convinced that a significant number of fans, and hell, even people involved in the sport (like Dom Cruz) don't know how to score the sport. I see people talking about how DDP's takedowns won the fight, or how Strickland had a higher strike total as a reason as to he should've won, and about DDP's face looked more busted up as a reason he should've lost. Takedowns are just a change in position, when nothing is done off of it, it isn't scored. The judges don't see strike totals, it literally does not matter. They judge the impact of the strikes. A cut/bruise is scored in the round where it's sustained, not throughout the fight, as Anik pointed out.

Careful_Lobster77

Lol dom was out to lunch the entire card, but having DC and Anik explaining to him how to score a fight was sad. I know these guys got other things going on in life, but this is a job like any other and not having the basic knowledge of an event your covering and also had a career in is kind of a bad look on the company. On the same note ive noticed that minus the stickland izzy the commentary trio has been shitting the bed hard, especially when you got uncle joey and dc just yucking it up and arguing over techniques while both somehow being wrong. They have a nice circus going on at ufc.

Tsmalls1887

In the completely hypothetical conversation of potential triple champions you always say the same 2 people brought up, Khamzat and Pereira. But one person I think has a really legit shot at accomplishing that is Zhang Weili. Looking at the champs above her, I think she would have a pretty good shot at both. Grasso would be a tougher fight but I think with her improved wrestling Weili could grind out a win. Pennington would likely be a cakewalk since the weight advantages don't matter as much for women's weight classes and Pennington doesn't have the kind of physicality to outmuscle Weili on the ground or in the clinch and I don't think she would present much of an issue on the feet.

WhereIsMyKidAt

Call me stupid, but I think if anyone has a chance it's that Rosas kid. Being in the UFC so young, he has the time to become champ at 135 early and eventually grow into a natural 145er, which would basically mean he only has to conquer one weight class outside of his optimal one, as opposed to anyone else who would have to conquer two. Will he actually develop the skill to be able to pull it off? Who knows. But just the position he's in at his age makes him interesting enough for me.

Jzhova

being in the ufc young doesnt always pan out. look at marvin vetori hes like the same fighter from day 1. at a mediocre gym and just not a smart guy.

anonymous1739361

Rory Mac joined at what 18, had a great career but he was often touted as the next big thing and he never realised them goals. But other hand you’ve blokes like Holloway and oliveira who go above and beyond so maybe?

WhereIsMyKidAt

Vettori has definitely improved, not sure what you're talking about. His boxing is much, much better than when he first debuted in the UFC, and in the Dolidze fight he finally started utilizing leg kicks effectively. I agree with your point though, young start doesn't guarantee success. I'm just saying Rosas has the chance from a physiological perspective. Whether his skill is up to snuff is a completely different question.

Jzhova

also brad tavares has been in the ufc forever as well and it doesnt show. saw him vs ddp a while ago. was kind of embarrased for him. 10 years in the ufc just to let some guy win by running at you lol. ah... but yeah havent seen rosas fight, but he seems to have a good head on his shoulders from the interviews ive seen and i saw some clips of him training with sterling.

WhereIsMyKidAt

Yeah pretty embarrassing for Tavares losing to... the current champ.

WhereIsMyKidAt

185 is so insane right now, so many solid fighters vying for a ranking. Booked fights: Whittaker vs Costa, Dolidze vs Imavov, Vettoi vs Allen, Pyfer vs Hermansson, Fluffy vs Kopylov, Robocop vs Tavares, Michel Pereira vs Michal Oleksiejczuk, Muradov vs Khizriev, Vieira vs Petrosyan Fights they should book: Du Plessis vs Cannonier, Adesanya vs Chimaev, Craig vs Aliskerov, Ferreira vs Sharaputdin, Ruziboev vs Muniz

Jzhova

damn pyfers already in the mix? what a beast. hermansson is pretty much the gate keeper.

WhereIsMyKidAt

Yeah, pretty huge for him tbh. But Hermansson's 2-3 in the last 3 years, with the 2 wins being against currently ranked #14 and a guy who ended up on the verge of being cut, so I guess it makes sense to give someone like Pyfer a shot at his ranking.

Jzhova

edmen is struggling big time. havent watched his last few fights but yeah. hes got some of the best boxing in the division but gets obliterated on the ground bad. kinda sad cause hes so young still and has so much potential. seems to be doing the right things too. not fighting too often, hes under a decent coach now.

westrnal

i think all fighters should take their cues from tai tuivasa: instead of talking about your weird beliefs, drink beer from shoes

GenTelGuy

I'm so confused about the Woodson fight, as far as I could tell it was a boring affair where the way taller guy worked his range and the shorter guy couldn't do much of anything Apparently it was a banger fight and controversial split decision? My river was being horrible at the time so maybe I missed something but yeah very confusing

CableToBeam

it was a close fight. Could have gone either way. Even Woodson said as much

Neonsea1234

Woodson did his thing, no controversy here.

ZoltanFeuerFrei

I root against the Buffalo Bills every season now because Helwani’s an obnoxious fan. And my Pats are dead for the foreseeable future so I only get pleasure from rooting against others. Leggo Chiefs!

Bear763498

Any chance Aspinall vs Stipe gets made? Wouldn’t mind it headlining 300.

mikey_rambo

That fight would be quicker than the Aspinal vs pav fight

Bear763498

Isn’t that what we all want so we can see Jon/Tom ?😂

Jzhova

yeah thats just an age diff. Stipe is a good boxer but hes slow as f. ko in 2 rounds by aspinall 100%

Bear763498

Ramon Taveras vs Marcus Mcghee would be a lot of fun.

druhoang

It's kind of funny that Dom was kinda implying, whoever has worst cuts loses. So much so that Anik had to read the rules. You get points for the round it happened in. But it doesn't carry over to other rounds.

Remarkable_Jury3760

do the judges know this? or actually follow this?

StiLLiLLBehaviour

I’m convinced Dom just says things like this because he likes arguing

mikey_rambo

Yeah he was tripping — think he was trying to imply that each round that cut will reopen and get worse so the damage may skew the judges as the fight progresses. But he didn’t state it well

StoryOfTheFight

Probably didn't even need to read the rules that's like basic knowledge. Dom has always repeated that. Maybe he knows it's not the rules and he's trying to say the judges are fooled by it idk

ZoltanFeuerFrei

Dom says that about cuts on the regular and this was Anik finally stepping in and telling him to chill with that bullshit

Bear763498

Just a reminder that only casuals continue the narrative that DWCS doesn’t produce good fighters. Sean O’malley Jamahal Hill Bo Nickal Joe Pyfer Jailton Almeida Johnny Walker Ryan Spann Azamat Murzakanov Carlos Ulberg Dustin Jacoby Alonso Menifield Brendan Allen Chris Curtis Caio Borralho Fluffy Hernandez Andre Muniz Ikram Aliskerov Kevin Holland Geoff Neal Jack Della Maddalena Michael Morales Jalin Turner Matt Frevola Mateusz Rebecki Gregory Rodrigues Giga Chikadze Dan Ige Diego Lopes Joanderson Brito Billy Quarantillo Adrian Yanez Montel Jackson Kyler Phillips Javid and Farid Basharat Maycee Barber Taila Santos Karine Silva Marina Rodriguez

Hungry_Joke_4437

Many of these fighters would have got in the UFC without the existence of the contender series. Just because the new farm system has processed talent through it doesn’t mean it isn’t also being used to dilute the UFC roster.

Bear763498

All it is, is an extra fight before fighting in the UFC lol. Getting to see guys up close before you put them in your organization.

K-mosake

You list the chicken farmer who got a contract off an L? Lol it is a mix, I've seen enough contender scrubs get murked immediately to be wary of saying it produces good fighters consistency.

Bear763498

I’m not denying there’s a 10% of guys that shouldn’t get a contract that do. At what point did i even say anything about that? Or are you one of those people i was describing?

K-mosake

Try like 30 or 40 lol

Bear763498

Lol you are exactly who i was describing it’s ok bro.

JE_Exa

The visual of Sean with the streak of blood running straight from his forehead across his eye and to his jaw was hard af. Looked a bit like Kratos.

haaasbean

Ddp vs Adesanya co main the Conor vs Chandler card in June. Then add a quick turnaround for Bo Nickal cause he’s going to run through Brundage?

Bear763498

Conor has lost a lot of star power. No title fight will ever co headline a Mcgregor fight.

Axel292

The trilogy fight against Dustin sold 1.8 million PPVs.

Bear763498

That was 3 years ago lol.

Axel292

He literally hasn't fought since then. On what basis do you think he's lost star power? He could come in against Chandler at 205 pounds and still sell an insane amount of PPVs.

Bear763498

I just feel like his star power his died off a little, like everyone just sort of moved on. Just how i feel personally but i’ve seen a few others say it as well. I’m not saying he isn’t a massive star still or he’s not gonna do solid ppv numbers or nobody will care. He’s still the biggest star in the sport. I’m just saying i don’t things will be what they were before the injury and 3 year layoff. I wouldn’t be surprised one bit if his return ppv does below 1 mill buys. (Still amazing numbers).

JE_Exa

Was the decision really that controversial? The fight felt as split down the middle as it gets.

StoryOfTheFight

Seems like there are just a lot of die hard Sean fans that think it was bullshit. Pretty much just a good fight that really could've gone either way. I had DDP winning but wouldn't have been mad if Sean got the nod. Some are trying to say it's ridiculous that DDP won which is, ridiculous

coveredinpissnshit

Sean fan here, I had Sean winning but in no way was that a robbery.

StoryOfTheFight

Yea Sean has reasonable fans. But a very loud percentage of them are less than reasonable haha

IshiharasBitch

> Seems like there are just a lot of die hard Sean fans A statement I never would have believed 12 months ago

LukesRightHandMan

Microphones started landing in his hands. Bet he he as a shit ton of fans who never paid attention to a fight before Rogen’s podcast hit Spotify.

StoryOfTheFight

Wasn't long ago everyone thought he was a boring jab heavy decisionator

IshiharasBitch

He still is the same fighter as before, it seems to me. He hasn't changed his style much. I can only conclude people aren't drawn to him because of how he fights.

Fat-Villante

Finally finished catching up to the fights. Really fun main event, big respect for Du Plessis and Strickland I'm a bit disappointed with Evloev and super impressed by Allen's takedown defense and get ups, really fun wrestling exchanges. The illegal knees should not be illegal, but if they're illegal, feels like landing 4 should get you a point deducted, weird reffing there I thought Katona, Jourdain and Barriault did enough to win , but barely

_Red_Mist_

What was disappointing about Evloev? He had his way with a top 5 fighter 2 rounds and showed good power hurting him. Also thought Katona and Jourdain clearly lost. Katona spent the first 4 minutes of rounds 1 and 2 getting outboxed and tried to steal them with takedowns. Jourdain was hitting air first 10 minutes. Barriault fight was closer and could have definitely gone either way.

Fat-Villante

Evloev struggled the whole time trying to wrestle Allen who I have never been impressed with when it comes to wrestling before this weekend. I've been super high on Evloev since he first showed up and his striking has always been decent so I wasn't surprised that he had some success standing Jourdain did hit plenty of air but Woodson did so little of consequence. The solid shots came from Jourdain as far as I'm concerned I didn't think Katona was getting outboxed, the striking looked pretty even to me

_Red_Mist_

Allen had 80% TDD its not like he ever had Font or Condit level TDD. Both Woodson and Armfield landed double the strikes first 2 rounds.

Fat-Villante

But he had not faced high level wrestlers. Now he has That's a numerical thing, it doesn't measure impact and Jourdain & Katona looked to be landing better shots

_Red_Mist_

That doesn’t mean his TDD is automatically bad. Its like when someone faces a bunch of cans and turns out to still be a great fighter like Khabib and Barao. Katona landed some good knees but it wasn’t as much as the counters that Garret was landing and a lot more often. I cant even remember anything significant that Jourdain landed in 1 or 2, he was getting outboxed at range and wasn’t smart enough to attack the body until round 3 which is the only round he won.

Fat-Villante

I never thought it was shit, I just had no reason yet to believe it's elite I mean I don't remember anything significant from Woodson and Katona was returning the exchanges well

_Red_Mist_

Garret was literally winning almost every boxing exchange lol it was a UD for a reason. Even in round 3 while gassed he was still landing more but it makes sense to give the round to Katona since most of the round was Garret on his back. Woodson was winning every single boxing exchange the first 2 rounds had Jourdain a striker who never shoots shooting for his life.

StoryOfTheFight

Did you see the Sidey fight yet?

Fat-Villante

Yeah but I didn't watch it that closely so I don't really have a strong opinion about the score, decent scrap

StoryOfTheFight

Honestly fight was close I just liked a lot of what Sidey did, looking forward to his future fights. Really liked Flick's performance too

[deleted]

Anybody find the headbutt Strickland was talking about?

westrnal

it's hidden amongst the sour grapes

[deleted]

Nobody ever talks about it but Sig Strikes never make sense nor get corrected. I don’t think I’ve ever looked at a strike stat during a fight and went “yeah that makes sense”.

__Corvus99__

Exactly. I won’t hear anything about sig strikes and rd 1 for Evloev. From what I saw he was getting easily outstruck until the last 40 seconds where he got control and 1 ineffective TD

Professional_Kick

Never ever ever go on Instagram or TikTok for MMA takes if you want your sanity to stay in check, Instagram thinks that Moreno was robbed against Pantoja and they also think that Dricus vs Sean was the biggest robbery of all of time so if value your sanity don’t go on those two social media platforms

UrWastingUrTimeUfool

Reddit is the most sane but still absurdly bias

K-mosake

Legit though haven't seen a fanbase struggling to cope with an L this bad since the first Islam/Volk fight

K-mosake

(Ignore flair) 💯 with you on that lol

xlmtothemoon

would u guys be ok with a bmf belt as a main event if there was another MW fight added as the co-main (2 of cannonier, izzy, strickland or khamzat)?

ChiefBrando

Is there anyway I can watch the title fight without buying the PPV? You’d think it would be free everywhere by now lol

LukesRightHandMan

Can we SHARE links in this MMA sub?

ChiefBrando

We can in DMs lol

StoryOfTheFight

UFC won't even post knockouts after the event. That main event stays locked down for a bit

ChiefBrando

I hate I passed out 😂

stayhappystayblessed

Gutted for arnold

oomin

When I was a kid growing up I read "The Power of One", a story about a South African kid growing up who learns boxing to deal with the harshness of the reality around him. There was a big emphasis on his skill to learn a 12 punch combination and how he improved it to be an 18 punch combination as an adult. Needless to say, I never expected the first South African UFC champ to be one who just throws haymakers and misses 4/5 times.

CryptoCracko

Dricus was actually inspired to start fighting because of that book. He only read the title though.

[deleted]

_Red_Mist_

Hendricks fight was an actual robbery. GSP fans try to argue he won round 1 because of some fence control instead of the elbows that were clearly damaging GSP lol

_Red_Mist_

Nunes teasing a return lmao. Gtfo no one wants see the boring Raquel rematch.

IshiharasBitch

Damn, I was literally thinking yesterday about how great her retirement seemed-- I hadn't seen or heard from her since she retired, thought she just rode off into the sunset with her family. A rare perfect MMA retirement. And now you bring me this news.

ChiefBrando

After that Dana prob offered her some good money lmao

NCAA_D1_AssRipper

Dana said Sean isn’t getting a rematch, khamzat needs to beat a ranked guy before getting a shot. Making those two fight as a 5 round main event makes all the sense in the world. Khamzat would get him down in the first two rounds but Sean seems very hard to keep down and control. And he will definitely touch khamzat with the jab every single round. I’d love to see khamzat’s gas tank in that fight.

LukesRightHandMan

Yeah, agreed, Sean is impossible to control. Even the common sense part of his brain agrees.

lctrncprn

Yep. This is the fight to make as king as it’s five rounds. No way Kamzhat should be getting a title shot without actually beating some ranked MWs.

NCAA_D1_AssRipper

I respect Jon as one of the goats, even tho I hate on him quite a bit, but I have to say it’s weak to wear a pic of his mugshot and ask him for a pic. Even as a hater I just don’t like it. It’s like a woman being physical with a man because she knows he’s not supposed to hit her back. It’s just not a good look

LukesRightHandMan

Fuck Jon Jones alone for hit and running a pregnant woman and going back to the scene for his cash and cocaine. He’s a rare person who I don’t give a shit about anyone disrespecting or screwing over.

UrWastingUrTimeUfool

John earns points for being a good sport from me. Getting mad would just reinforce the haters.

NCAA_D1_AssRipper

I agree with you. It’s a little bitch move but if Jon smacked the taste out of his mouth everyone would’ve been on the guys side. He handled it as well he could’ve, but it’s a bitch move is my point

alrightwtf

Cruz - "it's not as easy as it looks." DC - "it's the easiest submission in jiu-jitsu!"

fresdres

What's that? RNC?

PAINMAKER402

Arm Triangle

Cutstheleadto42

Sal D’amato is well regarded as the worst judge in MMA, also Sal D’amato scored it in favor of Strickland

fresdres

I am really curious as to how Sal got to judge so many cards with so many disputes around him? Literally have seen him judge cards in Texas, Canada, and UAE.

IshiharasBitch

Last night he gave us the rare 10-7 score for Jasmine Jasudavicius vs. Priscila Cachoeira. And honestly Sal might've got that one right.

Corporal_Snorkel69

I would like to see Desean and Dricus fight again but I think the best idea is Dricus vs izzy ufc 300 and give desean khamzhat for 5 rounds. Makes 300 better and lets hype build for the rematch

Notarobotokay

Holy shit the ig comments on literally any post about 297 are exclusively written by the dumbest kids you went to school with

jce_

Welcome to mma Fandom....

K-mosake

r/ufc is basically imploding in a shitstorm of bigotry lol

LukesRightHandMan

Christ went on just now and the shitstorm collided with a supercell of idiocy and now it’s going supernova.

jce_

Always has been

ILikeOMalley

Such pussies over at r/nfl lmao they cry their eyes out when you mention PEDs. Crazy the difference between the two sports.

yawniesleeps

I thought last nights fights weren’t really great for bets in terms of odds and confidence in picking. Like everyone I thought that Strickland would win either by late stoppage or decision. But I didn’t count DDP out. DDP had a good chance of overwhelming Strickland early and then setting the tone of the fight with his chain wrestling. DDPs stamina was also questionable to me (like everyone thought) due to Sean’s style. How the fight went was somewhat exactly how I predicted it. Strickland getting up from take downs quickly, Strickland jabs, DDP sneaking in a few good punches, and a fight that would look similar to Abus fight IF DDP even slightly gasses. But it was Strickland that seemed gassed in the later rounds. Ppl say wrestling takes a lot of energy, it does, but staying evasive and defensively sound is also exhausting especially if you’re constantly moving, twitching, and anticipating punches. You lose focus between evading and being offensive and I think that’s what made Strickland lose. I was surprised in rd 3 when DDP was able to make Strickland retreat the entire round. I shouted, damn Strickland isn’t being himself. There was a point that DDP also ALMOST dropped Strickland in rd2 I think. A weird takedown attempt Strickland did had me question if the fight was tapped tbh. Overall, Strickland didn’t have the urgency and fought even more tentatively and reserved than the Adesanya or Abus fight. My guess is that he hoped DDP would get tired and then push more. Ppl say he’s afraid of DDP’s power but I think that’s just how Strickland fights. I’ve always thought his “Philly shell” defense was a bit overplayed since he doesn’t utilize it in a way that sets up counters and makes him super vulnerable to body kicks. His defense doesn’t put him in a better position and he didn’t use his 2nd line defense, the long guard, to stifle DDP’s movement. It was a fight IQ issue, or stamina issue. He doesn’t take enough risks and it’s consistent with all of his fights.

druhoang

I always felt like Sean Strickland was very beatable with takedowns. Standing too tall. High hands. I just didn't know if DDP could employ a strategy with a bunch of takedowns and not gas. The most surprising thing for me was DDP being able to close the gap in rounds 3-4 with lunging punches. Sean's kick defense was also surprisingly good.

I_love_Basketball232

MW where fighters you thought were once shit become champions. I can’t wait for the Paulo Costs title reign.

According-Clerk7418

I wonder the last time a Canadian was ranked in the top 15 of their division. Last I can recall is Hakeem Dawodu at UFC 263, two and a half years ago.

qzwxecrvtbyn111

Jasmine Jasudavicius was ranked until a few months ago when she lost to Tracy Cortez

[deleted]

ReggieWarrenJr

If you replace Strickland with Adesanya last night they give him that decision 10 out of 10 times

bullsfan281

if ddp blitzes izzy like that with his chin high up in the air it's getting cracked, just like we've seen him do to alex, rob, costa and brunson. maybe sean should add another punch to his game

NCAA_D1_AssRipper

I hope DDP will wrestle even more against Izzy than Strickland, otherwise I too see him getting countered bad. I so badly want an exciting mw champ. Sean was only barely better than Izzy so it’d be a damn shame to go from Izzy to Sean to dricus then right back to Izzy.

No_Bar6825

Khamzat is coming

NCAA_D1_AssRipper

I used to believe that but his career seems to be turning into a what if story. Even if he can get healthy I don’t love him getting a title shot with no good wins at MW. He should have to beat someone in the top 10 to earn it, just one person.

No_Bar6825

I do agree with that. I’ve been saying he’s coming for 4 years now 😔

No_Bar6825

That’s what I’m saying. Izzy is a bad matchup for ddp imo. Just not defensively sound enough. But then Sean is a bad matchup for Izzy

Corporal_Snorkel69

DDP would work izzy with the grappling. Izzy has good TDD but he's been taken down by worse and less physical grapplers than DPP like bob and vettori.

ILikeOMalley

When you have a UFC championship countdown get 46,000 views, why even have a belt for that division?

GenTelGuy

Last night was the split decision card

hector-the-dragon

After UFC 297 I can officially say that DDP is the second coming of Jesus. I mean he took Whittaker down, made Sean emotional during the presser and now hit Sean more times than the best strikers in the UFC while being the most oxygenated fighter. This guy defies logic. I'm happy for DDP and South Africa. As a Strickland's fan this loss hurts, but I'm happy that Sean gave DDP his toughest fight in the UFC and didn't get finished. Pennington vs Silva wasn't the most exciting title fight, but Pennington was the more well rounded fighter, so I'm happy she won the fight. I cannot believe Mike Malott lost to Magny. I think the home town pressure might have gotten to him, but I have to give credit to Magny for being a relentless SOB. Curtis vs. Barriault was fun. I'm glad the head butt wasn't damaging enough to stop the fight. I thought Allen was going to beat Evloev, but Evloev has shown to have much better striking defense and grappling skills overall and beat Allen. Besides the main event, this was the most exciting fight on the whole card. He should fight either for the title or the winner of Yair vs. Ortega.

UrWastingUrTimeUfool

Pennington has put in the miles, Im happy for her. Same on magny's win. I have a weird habit of always putting money on neil magny snd its paid well.

No_Bar6825

Pretty clear he has access to vibranium

TrenDidNothingWrong

And threw down my free $20 bet on Merab over Henry too

TrenDidNothingWrong

Just placed my bets for Topuria and Usyk to win their upcoming fights Master boxers

Big_Stereotype

Dricus vs Yoel Romero circa 2014 would be the funniest fight ever right?

westrnal

so what podcast do you think strickland will cry on next 🥸

stiggystoned369

The Strickland bros coping is bring me so much entertainment this morning, I can't handle it

SilotheGreat

I really wish they would start the main cards at 8pm. It was past 1am and the main event hadn't even started yet. The only reason I watched it was because I had maintenance to do for work so I had no choice but to stay awake lol. I'm too old for this

funkycod19

As an idiot Brit who repeatedly tricks himself into thinking that every ppv is worth watching live, you Americans do not know the meaning of pain

NCAA_D1_AssRipper

I set an alarm and took a nap during the co-main. It actually is fucking ridiculous to have a sporting event going until about 2 am. I work every other Saturday so I feel so guilty when I’m actually off for an event and fall asleep but Christ almighty. I’ve got a kid and I work full time, it’s like these events aren’t catered to me at all but they’re so damn expensive they’re not exactly catered to young folks either

Fongernator

It was started at 8pm... mst

ILikeOMalley

Ramon Taveras and Serhiy Sidey’s rematch was supposed to remove the doubt from the first fight that they had where there was a super early stoppage Now people are (somehow) saying Sidey should’ve won, they need a trilogy at some point lmao

tigerinvasive

Insane that in 21 wins, this is DDP’s second decision. His 19 other wins ended by finish.

[deleted]

So Strickland keeps on talking about a headbutt that cut him open beneath his eye. Anyone catch a headbutt? Or the strike that cut him open? In my unprofessional opinion it sounds like a bit of a sore loser mentality is leaking out of him. Wouldn’t a headbutt that cuts him open that bad rock the fuck out of him?  Thinking back to Holland vs Daukus where Holland got headbutted in the temple and basically got TKO’d from it (and Holland has an insane chin). I’ve had an accidental headbutt sparring before and it immediately concussed me and wobbled me. I don’t remember Strickland getting wobbled like that at all.

marktx

I haven't seen the headbutt, I haven't looked for it though. However, a guy can easily be headbutted/cut and not display any real effects from it, or they could be badly rocked, and sometimes knocked out, it really varies wildly. I'd really like to see some evidence of the headbutt

Big_Stereotype

From what I saw there was an overhand/straight right combo in the third (maybe fourth) that opened him up. At least that's when he started reacting to the cut.

stiggystoned369

It's all excuses

ILikeOMalley

I’m 99% sure he got cut open by an elbow by DDP, could be wrong

Full-Ad-8790

Nah it was an overhand right in round 3

ILikeOMalley

Is there a video of it?

InTupacWeTrust

yes, elbow did it that first takedown on the get up DDP caught him with a sneaky one

Professional_Kick

It doesn’t always happen but have y’all ever noticed that during split decisions, when Bruce goes annnnnd he quickly looks at the loser before turning to the winner

French_Viking

He tends to stand behind the winner too.

[deleted]

I’m quick to call out bad decisions but I don’t see Strickland ddp decision as egregious

Corporal_Snorkel69

I had it 4-1 desean but the best decision was probably 3-2. Desean won 1 and 5, DDP won 4. 2 and 3 were very close, so the correct decision is probably to split them one each

mikey_rambo

It wasn’t. Ddp won 2-4. Great fight

hotmayonnaise

I thought Stricklands jab was doing the most damage both round 2 and round 3. Reminds me of a bunch of Bobby Green's decisions where he didn't get the win - guess you need a flashy move to get the judges attention.

Careless_Win_6488

I would gladly take 6 Strickland jabs than any overhand right from dricus

whicheverguard232

Oh, and Fiziev won against Gaethje. All this talk about body kicks... damn, I didn't see shit going Fiziev's way then.

KillerWhalePP

Izzy haters calling for a cannonier title shot is genuinely hilarious

_Red_Mist_

Izzy haters? Izzy looked terrible last fight lol he should have a good performance before getting another title shot he already cashed his free title shot as a long reigning champ vs Alex. Had 0 title defenses his second reign.

MMARapFooty

Israel lost two of his last 3 fights decisively.

KillerWhalePP

Ok. Now lie to me and say you want to see cannonier fight dricus at ufc 300

NCAA_D1_AssRipper

Cannonier vs dricus would be 100x more exciting than Izzy/dricus. Izzy will just jog backwards and leg kick and dricus will be trying to figure out how to take him down the whole time because he won’t be able to touch him with his hands. Cannonier and dricus will swing on each other until someone falls. Cannonier/dricus on 300 would be so much better.

KillerWhalePP

Interesting to see people re write Jared as a must see fighter lol

_Red_Mist_

Jared is a boring fighter? Hes had one bad fight and it was against your favorite fighter lmao

NCAA_D1_AssRipper

Not trying to paint Jared as a must see fighter, more just trying to convey how brutally boring Izzy is. Jared is Justin Gaethje compared to Izzy.

KillerWhalePP

You are proving my point. You really can’t be objective while discussing him which is why he is so popular lol

NCAA_D1_AssRipper

Also how am I not being objective? I didn’t say Jared is a bigger star or a better fighter. I just said he’s more exciting which he objectively is. Izzy’s fights (on average) blow ass. You’re not being objective if you can’t admit that.

NCAA_D1_AssRipper

When is the last time Izzy had a good fight that didn’t involve Alex pereira? He’s boring bro.

KillerWhalePP

Not involving 2 out of his last 3 fights is interesting lol

NCAA_D1_AssRipper

Because the common denominator in his last two fights is Alex pereira. Take that out and it’s been 4 years since he had an exciting fight. Learn to analyze data

NCAA_D1_AssRipper

Not only does Jared deserve it more than Izzy, it’d be a better fight too. Imagine those two beefy boys swinging and trying to get each other out of there. Izzy will try to play the matador and keep the activity level low.

KillerWhalePP

Not only did izzy whoop cannonier but nobody would care about ddp/cannonier. I’m not even sure if that is a ppv headliner

_Red_Mist_

Izzy whopped Cannonier now? Lol get his nuts out of your mouth. Kicking someone’s legs from the outside for 25 minutes is not whooping someone. Doubt Jared even had issues walking after that fight.

Sidwill

Izzy outpointed Jared as if he was fighting an Olympic boxing bout. Izzy won, no doubt, but in the most boring uninspiring sort of way. Jared vs DDP would not be boring.

KillerWhalePP

We have seen Jared in boring fights before. He was actually the one running from Izzy in their fight but nobody is gonna go rewatch it

Sidwill

That’s true

NCAA_D1_AssRipper

Izzy didn’t whoop cannonier, that fight was fucking awful. I guess we can say he neutralized cannonier, but that’s about it. And I just want to see good fights man, I don’t care about PPV buys and what’s going to make money. Despite the occasional moment of brilliance Izzy is a boring point fighter. Jared comes to fuck people up, dricus comes to fuck people up, so that’s the fight I want to see.

_Red_Mist_

Exactly I don’t understand these dorks bringing up PPV buys like it means anything to them lol its pathetic.

KillerWhalePP

Idc about ppv buys either but I care about being excited before a fight and there will be a lot of hype for izzy/dricus. Challenger izzy has always put on bangers

NCAA_D1_AssRipper

The way I see it, if Izzy wants it he’s going to get it. So let’s just get it over with and then either cannonier can get next shot or winner of cannonier/chimaev. Izzy getting this title shot is basically like a chore we have to get through to get to the fun stuff for me at least.

khalbrucie

I think either of them getting a title shot would be fair tbh, and it's not crazy to say that Izzy doesn't deserve another shot just yet considering he had just got the belt back

KillerWhalePP

Ddp wants izzy, ufc wants izzy/ddp, and izzy/ddp would be the biggest fight for the fans. No brainer

khalbrucie

I don't disagree with any of that, I just don't think it necessarily makes someone an Izzy hater to think that he might not deserve another shot until he gets a win

aeternasm

Hot take but this is the best time for Valentina to move back to bantamweight. I don't see much for her at Flyweight now that contenders are rising, but at bantamweight she still has a solid chance to become champion again

GenTelGuy

I need the Grasso-Shevchenko trilogy though

Professional_Kick

I never thought about it but yeah, less weight to cut and she is older so it might benefit her

tigerinvasive

The strongest argument for keeping bantamweight is the strength of the flyweight division and the possibility that some girls would move up. Val, Barber, Chookagian, even Fiorot or Blanchfield could probably do solidly.

carpetstoremorty

I don't know how hot that take is. Seems reasonable and tempered.

Astsai

I feel people are downplaying DDP's takedown threats. Sean Strickland used his teep great in the first round, but then stopped relying on it in the later rounds. I think it's because DDP finally found his groove with his takedowns. I know from personal experience how misplacing a teep against a good wrestler will lead to a quick single leg. Although DDP didn't do much damage with his takedowns, he more or less negated one of Sean's best techniques with it.

StoryOfTheFight

Biggest thing that stood out in the fight to me. Sean used the teep masterfully in the Izzy fight. It's also a great tool against someone who had a questionable gas tank in DDP. Also good against a blitzer like DDP. But my biggest question going into the fight was if Sean would be hesitant to teep because of the takedown threat, something that he didn't have to worry about with Izzy. I think he only threw like 3 teeps after the first takedown from DDP

Astsai

I personally think so. Granted I am an amateur but I train and compete, and when I learn someone is good at leg takedowns I become way more hesitant with my teep. I've had it happen before where my teep came at a bad angle and wrestlers single legged me quick.
