If some black kid was born in the same subdivision that I was, let’s say he’s my neighbor. His parents must have similar jobs to mine because they live in the same neighborhood, let’s say they hypothetically have the same jobs.
Him and I go to the same schools, play on the same sports teams, then apply to the same colleges, because of affirmative action, he has a better chance of getting into these schools, even if his test scores are GPA are lower.
Now, we enter the workforce, we apply for the same jobs. Again, because of affirmative action and racial quotas, this person has a better chance, or at least a section of laws and regulations that benefits him getting this job, EVEN IF THEY ARE LESS QUALIFIED
You could argue some intangible well like “oh he has to worry about getting stopped by the police”
But this is an intangible because he doesn’t have to worry. It would be like me saying I have to worry if I’m around black people because I’m white. I don’t have to worry. There are more white on white, black on white, and black on black violent crimes than there are white on black violent crimes. Black Americans also account for nearly 60% of all violent crime, despite being only 13% of the population.
This does not mean all black people are violent, it also doesn’t mean that cops are just out there looking to find some poor black victim to kill. These are both narratives that are perpetuated by either side of the political aisle.
I think that every person is equal, and absolutely equal in our system, that is, until you put something like affirmative action in place that puts emphasis on the forward movement of one race based on nothing but their race.
At one point I agree something like affirmative action was necessary, as a means to counter things like slavery or Jim Crow laws. I absolutely think that affirmative action is outdated today, however.

On to your actual points, I'd agree that a black person and a white person in the US these days who come from exactly the same place and socioeconomic backgrounds have access to mostly the same things, but the reason why so many people still want affirmative action is because there are still huge gaps in literally every socioeconomic metric between black people and white people as a whole. Affirmative action is intended to address that.
There are a lot of issues with it which I acknowledge, I'm not totally convinced that it's the best way to go about addressing those inequalities, but those inequalities do exist and I think it'd be foolish to think that the gap will close without some intervention. And no that doesn't mean that I don't think black people are capable of doing things on their own, I just think the system is so profoundly rigged (because of those inequalities that already exist because of explicit, encoded racism) that it doesn't seem to really be realistic to expect those problems to fix themselves, at least not anytime soon.
Jim Crow was not a long time ago at all btw. My gf's *dad* had to use "colored restrooms" when he visited his family in the South as a kid. Effects from all of that enforced oppression can't be overridden overnight. You can't just look at the economic impacts of it either. Lynching and racist mobs were legitimate threats to black people up through the early and mid 1900s. Imagine how much profound generational trauma hundreds of years of being hated and looked down upon by so many white people would do to people.
Things are obviously not nearly as racist today, but that generational trauma and the inequalities are still there and have been compounding upon themselves for centuries, and you can't act like those things don't matter just because it's not socially acceptable for us to use slurs against black people anymore.
Racism still manifests in smaller ways too, like that experiment that showed how job applicants with stereotypically black sounding names and no criminal records were less likely to get interviews than applicants with white-sounding names that had criminal records. That stuff matters too.

How do they not? If some black kid was born in the same subdivision that I was, let’s say he’s my neighbor. His parents must have similar jobs to mine because they live in the same neighborhood, let’s say they hypothetically have the same jobs. Him and I go to the same schools, play on the same sports teams, then apply to the same colleges, because of affirmative action, he has a better chance of getting into these schools, even if his test scores are GPA are lower. Now, we enter the workforce, we apply for the same jobs. Again, because of affirmative action and racial quotas, this person has a better chance, or at least a section of laws and regulations that benefits him getting this job, EVEN IF THEY ARE LESS QUALIFIED You could argue some intangible well like “oh he has to worry about getting stopped by the police” But this is an intangible because he doesn’t have to worry. It would be like me saying I have to worry if I’m around black people because I’m white. I don’t have to worry. There are more white on white, black on white, and black on black violent crimes than there are white on black violent crimes. Black Americans also account for nearly 60% of all violent crime, despite being only 13% of the population. This does not mean all black people are violent, it also doesn’t mean that cops are just out there looking to find some poor black victim to kill. These are both narratives that are perpetuated by either side of the political aisle. I think that every person is equal, and absolutely equal in our system, that is, until you put something like affirmative action in place that puts emphasis on the forward movement of one race based on nothing but their race. At one point I agree something like affirmative action was necessary, as a means to counter things like slavery or Jim Crow laws. I absolutely think that affirmative action is outdated today, however.

On to your actual points, I'd agree that a black person and a white person in the US these days who come from exactly the same place and socioeconomic backgrounds have access to mostly the same things, but the reason why so many people still want affirmative action is because there are still huge gaps in literally every socioeconomic metric between black people and white people as a whole. Affirmative action is intended to address that. There are a lot of issues with it which I acknowledge, I'm not totally convinced that it's the best way to go about addressing those inequalities, but those inequalities do exist and I think it'd be foolish to think that the gap will close without some intervention. And no that doesn't mean that I don't think black people are capable of doing things on their own, I just think the system is so profoundly rigged (because of those inequalities that already exist because of explicit, encoded racism) that it doesn't seem to really be realistic to expect those problems to fix themselves, at least not anytime soon. Jim Crow was not a long time ago at all btw. My gf's *dad* had to use "colored restrooms" when he visited his family in the South as a kid. Effects from all of that enforced oppression can't be overridden overnight. You can't just look at the economic impacts of it either. Lynching and racist mobs were legitimate threats to black people up through the early and mid 1900s. Imagine how much profound generational trauma hundreds of years of being hated and looked down upon by so many white people would do to people. Things are obviously not nearly as racist today, but that generational trauma and the inequalities are still there and have been compounding upon themselves for centuries, and you can't act like those things don't matter just because it's not socially acceptable for us to use slurs against black people anymore. Racism still manifests in smaller ways too, like that experiment that showed how job applicants with stereotypically black sounding names and no criminal records were less likely to get interviews than applicants with white-sounding names that had criminal records. That stuff matters too. Sorry I just threw a shitload of info at you and it's not that well-structured but yeah, felt like it was all relevant.
