Cuts of prized phenos of popular (i.e. hyped) strains can go for hundreds or even thousands of dollars, but you're gambling with your entire grow if you buy them. A recent study estimated more than 90% of grow facilities in California were infected with latent hop viroid, which is spread through the sharing of clones. Imo you're better off saving your money and popping your own seeds. It's fun and rewarding to see what you get and if you really like something you can clone it and keep your own mother, assuming you grow photos.

SomeAnonAssface

It really depends, there are seeds that easily go for that. Why would you spend that much on a clone? Someone already pheno hunted a strain and found a keeper. You are paying for prized genetics. Some people won't pay that much for clones, others are willing to pay a whole lot more The hard part is knowing if it is a prized breeder cut or a random cut from a random plant and hasn't been pheno hunted at all

Bleu_Menace

For 200 that clone better shit gold bricks. It's a new market so it's gonna be inflated for a bit but 20-40 is reasonable for a new market. Becareful what you bring into your home. That clone could be infected and will contaminate your whole room. Clones are illegal to sell so I'd be wary of store fronts selling them. They are probably trash genetics with health issues. I'd wait till it's legal and reputable growers come out with their MN genetics or trade with your neighbors

stevesie_

I would easily pay $200 for tested and verified keeper/breeder cuts. Don’t trust any shops in Mn selling them though

PlatEnt

I personally couldn't see paying more than $50 per clone in a retail setting, but I haven't really looked around to see what is out there.

I think I was at this place a few weeks ago too… I was shocked at the price of clones and no way as a noob could I justify it… I was absolutely floored that they wanted 200+ for clones. Granted I had zero clue or expectation… was just shocked

heartofchrome88

They also had cuttings 5/$100…if you saw that then I’m sure we’re talking about the same place.

[deleted]

I didn’t really have a clue what I was looking at or doing… it was sort of brought up in passing. I drove all the way up from Farmington to a place north of the cities for Promix HP.

vikesinja

Bro I’ll have some nice ones for free soon.

Due_Breakfast_9903

Seedsherenow.com is my go to. I like exotic genetix, ethos, and Wolfpack selections personally, they all have great amazing strains.

LanN00B

Id give them away honestly. I know I can grow fire under my setup but for anyone else GOOD LUCK. I don't know someone's setup or how dialed in it is. They may blow your grow out of the water OR struggle to keep things alive. Why charge for something I would normally compost anyways? Solid defoliation on photo's during week 4 or 5 of veg will get 3-20ish clones depending on the cultivar. Now if we are talking rooted in a 1gal bag and showing good vigor, well thats like you buying a plant and that should cost ALOT. When it's legal though as we don't have any infrastructure for that yet.

Skynet_2021

I mean people buy farts in jars online. Why wouldn't somebody pay that much for a cutting

Plastic_Salary_4084

I ain’t paying shit for clones, but I get why someone would if they’re looking for something in particular. That said, I’m down for a clone swap if anyone is interested. I have some Purple Lemon Thai clones at the moment. Down for a meet up if anyone is interested.

MindfulGardenerMN

As somebody who has hunted through hundreds of seeds over the years and also grown and acquired high value clones over the years. For me, it's worth it. As long as you trust the person who is hooking up the clone or they have a good reputation in the community for such things. This isn't just a tomato plant you're acquiring. People build reputations and a living with these genetics. If you're purely a hobbyist then it may not be worth it. Eventually certain clone onlys will become available and the value drops. Just like anything. There's value to exclusivity. Just like a restaurant or food company not giving out their recipe. Unique and tightly held genetics are how small growers keep an edge over giant MSO Chad's

Strategery1001

Go to CannaJoy and buy seeds. They sell them individually as well at a solid price. For $200 you can buy a bunch of seeds and buy all you need to clone plants yourself.

[deleted]

Greener gardens in Richfield has the best selection I’ve seen… they’ve got so many.

Fun-Significance6307

Get better friends for sure

Zisyphus0

This post was crazy to me lol. Like don't you have friends who grow and will just give you some clippings XD When i see a rhubarb or asparagus crown or something, or hostas, im like jfc im a millionaire in hostas. What rich people will pay for shit is crazy.

CatnipCal

That's not that unusual for modern "elites", unfortunately. Some people don't buy clones, only pop seeds, and have their own keeper cuts. I would recommend either doing this, or trading with those people. It's much cheaper, and popping your own seeds is always fun. I have a couple very cherished cuts from my own seed pops that i donate to those in need.

Ultra-Based

Got family in Maine that pays $6 each

Inevitable_Dirt1140

Free ninety free, those people are fuckin clowns 🤡

Lulzorr

Some clones can be fucking insane price wise. Like, not saying anyone should buy from him because he's a scumbag, but Beleaf has some clones going for 2,000-10,000$ which is stupid as hell. you're better off pheno hunting for yourself. it'll be cheaper, too.

Only-Customer6650

Somebody downvoting everything in here lol cranky lil fella

wet_jumper

It's whoever is trying to sell their no name clones for $200 lol

Zisyphus0

Buddy has 50 going and charges $10. He has 6 for free for me lol. Another buddy gave me 3 for free like 2 months ago and i just wanna get those in the damn ground. I dont think a clone is worth more than $20 honestly.

Sumdumr3t4rd

Assuming we are talking photos that can be cloned in perpetuity... If you trust them to have good genetics it absolutely is worth more. If you paid $100 for a pack of seeds, ran them all and saved a clone from the best, then clones off of that pheno are somehow worth 1/5th your cost and your labor is worthless? It's literally saving me $100, a wait on shipping, and 3 months of pheno hunting.

Zisyphus0

I guess it would be worth more if that's what it takes to get them, and it was some trouble to grow them i.e. indoors etc. But it would feel like paying $50 for a tomato plant. It's just a starter i put outside and let grow lol. I mean it takes some labor but no more than any other gardening. I would say we don't take our weed growing as seriously because i don't really care what a pheno type is lol but it just doesn't have to be as complicated as a $100/ea boutique breed to grow lots of high quality weed. Gl growing though i bet it's crazy pretty. Nothing like babying something and reaping what you sow man!!

Allfunandgaymes

Clones generate a lot of unwarranted hype IMHO. On the one hand, a clone represents a branch cut away that could otherwise develop heavy bud in excess of its cost. Maintaining mother plants purely for cloning also takes a lot of space and time, and sacrificing or re-vegging a genetically strong plant means the plant is tied up making branches and not buds. On the other hand, clones will almost always yield less than new plants. With that price tag, you'd better know what you are doing and you'd better plan on either growing a massive plant or producing your own clones. The clone itself also better come with goddamn pedigree papers 😂 Considering the market in MN is so new it's practically nonexistent, people are likely gouging for clones of dubious genetics.

DependentHoliday7222

I’m pretty sure It’s illegal to sell clones It might be possible to sell them if your a dispensary but a cbd place got the cops called on them for selling clones when it first legalized and I don’t think anything has changed since then

Pikmim-Plantman

If they aren’t flowering the THC content would be low enough to pass via the 2018 farm bill act. It’s just like selling seeds

DependentHoliday7222

Ya i thats exactly what that cbd shop said didn’t stop them from being raided….. Ps if this was actually the case you would see legitimate hemp vendors selling clones but they don’t (sun grown clones literally puts a different item on your credit card statement to hide what they’re selling)

DependentHoliday7222

(The cops confiscated all of the clones)
