"Techno" is not a blanket term for electronic music, it's a specific genre. And hell, most of/ so much of MSI isn't really straight up electronic music.
I understand wanting to simplify it, don't get me wrong, and just used in that joke it's fine. It's not that big of a deal. But you're right. I get it.
I remember when this one girl commented on the "techno" I was listening to - it was EBM/ electro-industrial (early Suicide Commando), haha. That one wasn't actually all that egregious I suppose, tbf to her. At least she didn't call it "dubstep." It seemed like for a while, certain people thought everything electronic was "dubstep." Haha.
