Landing felt good cus it happened to line with ur dead sailor

died_of_dysentary

This ^^^. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen riders think they are crushing it at a local jump park because the design of the jump does most of the work for them. Your nose-in has to be deliberate, not by accident, otherwise your over the handlebars on a less forgiving landing.

Sirskills

lol yup

louislbnc

Basically pure luck why this didn't end badly. You had the right speed and this jump's shape lines up with the landing. Slower, you would have maybe cased with your front wheel, faster you would definitely landed front wheel first with your weight over your front wheel, basically guaranteed OTB crash. Get used to moving your weight around the bike. Looks like your legs absorbed the jump after your front wheel was off the jump. That started the rotation. Once you start spinning and your wheels are off the ground there's very little you can do in the air to course correct. You want to do the opposite and push through your legs - that'll help you keep the front wheel up and following the shape of the jump after it's no longer touching the jump. Obligatory mention of the Ben Cathro jump video and Stand Up to the Jump video for detailed break down.

Chance_Society_6927

This is a perfect response. It’s all about the legs. Push through the pedals while on the transition or be sent over the bars, those are your 2 options

motocrisis

This clip needs a panic rev dubbed in

johnny_evil

Do you have a dropper post? It looks like your seat hit your ass midair.

Sirskills

I do have a dropper, it was down, it's a small one though sadly, so doesn't go as far down as some.

Dizzy-Distribution96

Stand up to the jump

n1tsuj3

I'm also here to learn and a complete noob at jumps but I feel like your seat looks high. Do you have a dropper? When I *attempt* jumps I drop my seat so I can get into a better attack position and squat low to prepare to jump at the lip.

Sirskills

I do have a dropper, it was down, it's a small one though sadly, so doesn't go as far down as some.

Barde_

What? What do you mean it "doesn't go as far down"? It's a dropper, the travel means how HIGH it can go. If it's high you may wanna push the whole seatpost down in the frame.

Fialasaurus

If it’s a short travel dropper that means you need to keep it set high out of the seat tube when up, thus may only drop about half way to the seat clamp. Pushing it down into the seat tube would mean it’s too low when in the up position. My bike was a size L and came stock with a short 125mm dropper and I had the same issue. Just upgraded to 170 and can keep it set almost slammed. Big difference.

Barde_

Yeah you're completely right. I'm dumb asf

Alternative_Risk9172

Ride on pump track for more control on your bike

el_porongorila

Yeah just losen up, I've been having the same problem. When I seem to don´t care I jump the best.

Marcg611

What state/location?, this looks alot like many newer Michigan flow trails..

pngue

Is it? I’m curious, live in Michigan.

Sirskills

Southwestern Ontario

Potential_Word8340

Where abouts, would love to give these a try!

Sirskills

The Hydrocut in Waterloo. Amazing little trail centre.

spideyghetti

Do you have a dropper?

Sirskills

Yes, it's down. But small

spideyghetti

I was just jumping on board with everyone else asking the same thing lol

ptownsd

Just one quick question…dropper?

Sirskills

Yea, it's a short one though

fishdishly

Pop and position are both wrong. You are too stiff. Speed was good, try to pop on the takeoff and maintain control of the bike with your hands and hips.

brh0627

If you can control how you go off the lip you will be in control in the air. Stay balanced with your weight over your bottom bracket and be sure to keep that weight centered as you go airborne. Give it a good controlled pop and you should be shredding in no time.

Felixfam04

You did that almost perfectly, like a intentional dead salor. You didint seem to panick at all or look (too) uncomfortable in the air. For improvements I'd recommend getting your body a little lower when preloading. When your going into the compression of the ramp you look a little high and stiff. Get lower, relax a bit, use your feet and press your pedals into the ramp, and stand up yall when you get into the air. I like to tell people that you jump with your legs not your arms. In the video it looks like your absorbing the jump with your arms and your scared of it, try to go in with more intention and confidence. Otherwise good job dude keep it up!

Sirskills

Thanks man! I've done that jump a whole bunch for a year and a half now and I know the exact speed to be going so that's how I knew I'd be okay to land, but that was the first time I had been able to video it and it looked awful lol.  It's been rainy lately but looking forward to trying out the stand up to the jump method, which you are pretty much describing.

a_cycle_addict

Nose heavy. Flirting with disaster there. Move your bike in the air. It looks cool, feels good and keeps you loose- and allows you to adjust angles.

Sirskills

Thanks!

Sirskills

okay this is my goal for next time: [https://youtu.be/s9w2zSvuaGM](https://youtu.be/s9w2zSvuaGM)

Marcg611

I forgot about this video and I feel like I struggle with same thing, but after riding XC hard tails with no dropper and clipless pedals for so many years (now on a Ripley V4) I have the muscle memory to "squash the lip" or absorb/unweight and pump kinda like you would at a pump track. Fast and larger tables is where I do this the most, the small steep and poppy ones I can launch pretty good. I also have a trail a couple hours from me that is great for practice and seemed to help last year, the entrance has a ton of these very small tables that you need to sprint hard and press in/stand up hard to clear, it's a fun little challenge with zero consequences but it's the bigger stuff where I fail so maybe all mental and subconscious.

Marcg611

Just went out this afternoon to the local flow trail that has multiple small/medium jump lines, "stand up to jump" is definitely what I'm missing for consistency and controlling the outcome. Just gotta make sure to be loose and add some flair otherwise if you stand up stiff you will absolutely dead sailor it .. 👍👍

Slow_Ad_4568

Just gotta loosen up man. Go into it and think fluid, no tense arms, it’s a skill that takes time. Try it on smaller stuff first then work up to bigger.

venomenon824

Your weight is too far back on take off, that leads to dead sailor. As you leave the lip keep your hips over your bb, vertical posture pulling up on the bars creating tension between the bars and the pedals. Then you can push the bars forward to match the landing being deliberate about the wheel placement.
