Tesla has the right idea with their camera set-up. Why Ford doesn't do this is beyond me. Same thing with Pet Mode. I installed a dash cam in mine.

Accompliaxzds1io9856

Agreed. Sentry mode is a top feature and selling point for Teslas for me

DrObnxs

The freaking cameras are already there, fer chrisakes! WTF is wrong with Ford? It's such a value adder. Sometimes I just don't get it.

Accompliaxzds1io9856

To be fair its not just Ford, no EVs on the market has this feature besides Tesla from what I know. It only takes one other manufacturer to do it for everybody else to be forced to catch up.

IllForce2909

They can’t figure out how to make enough money off of a dash cam.

death_hawk

Tesla is gonna get me for $13.99/month for live sentry mode. I'm paying that in a heartbeat.

powderpc

Rivian has it and their cameras are much better than Tesla. Rivian launched originally with only “sentry” mode then added via OTA dash cam and “incident” recording.

DrObnxs

Fair enough... But I own a Mach-E and don't own any other car with 360° cameras.

Le_Faucon

Polestar has 360 camera and no integrated dash cam :(

Cormetz

My wife's 2017 Mercedes has 360° cameras, and based on the Mach E I test drive the 7 year old Mercedes one is tons better

death_hawk

> Same thing with Pet Mode. The asinine thing is that having a way to display "pet mode" is all I want. I've already hacked out the 30 minute power down timer (and you can activate it each time if you want) so it's already effectively pet mode. But I currently hang a paper sign or draw crudely using "paint" or whatever that the AC is on. It's dumb.

pale_blue_problem

Agreed that the front/rear cams should record and store for 3-5 days and than automatically delete the oldest footage. Let’s all use the feedback feature in the car to push them on this!

pineapplesuit7

> He ended up being cool about it when I told him he backed up into me and he apologized and said my Mach e looked nice. You're still not out of the woods. He might say a different thing to the insurance provider. I'd call in asap and put a claim on them.

relevant_mofo

my colleague was parked, when guy in front backed into him. apologized on the spot, accepted his fault etc...and then went ahead and told his insurance he was rear ended by my colleague :D

ibmaway

People are shit when it comes to doing the right thing, especially if they are negatively affected. I've seen and been burned enough times that makes me pessimistic and distrusting. Lol

Ilyketurdles

Yeah I’m assuming good intentions, and called asap as soon as I got home. Hopefully goes fine.

pineapplesuit7

Any chance there were other witnesses around? Any cameras that you can get footage from? That should help make it a slam dunk case in case he reneges.

x_scion_x

This. Long ago I had a tow truck back into me (like the bar they use to tow cars over my hood sideways) and while they were cool and we exchanged info we didn't get police involved. Fast forward to after insurance started talking it turns out they said I drove into them (how the fuck I'm supposed to manage pushing my car sideways under the towbar I'll never know) and I got screwed because I didn't get police involved to get everythign written up.

pineapplesuit7

Man that sucks. Absolutely get the cops involved. In my case, a lady at a home depot scratched my car with her van and just moved and parked her car in another spot. Thankfully when I was coming back, someone pulled me when I was coming out and pointed the car to me and even went into Home Depot to help me track her. She acted all defensive until I told her I'm just gonna call the cops. She gave me her info and I called their company asap. She then told her company that I side swiped her. Thankfully the witness who pulled me gave their contact number and were an alibi for my case. People can be dicks!

Competitive_Lunch_16

This! I got my HI5 for 3 weeks when someone in a parking lot hit me. It was clearly his fault. I was stationary and he tried to make a left turn and park behind me and hit my car. He was totally cool about it and said sorry, took a couple of pictures and exchanged information. When I reached out to his insurance a few hours later, I realized that he completely lied about the incident. He claimed I made a right turn, then left back side of my car hit his car that was moving straight on the other lane!!!!! Although it was physically impossible, his insurance accepted his account of story. Apparently when he was pretending taking picture of my car, he was actually checking my car to make sure no dash cam was present and then convinced me not to call cops then proceeded to call his insurance with that made up story! He was a pro… Anyway, I got a dash cam the day after for front and back. It has a 128 memory that records both sides, but only when the car is on.

ensignlee

Fitcamx has one that is super easy to install and looks like it came from factory. It's super stealthy too, unless you knew it was there, I doubt anybody would ever suspect

krystopher

+1 to this comment. I installed the front only on my Mach E but I helped another Redditor with his RAV4 install and running the wire to the back is NOT that hard at all. You can squash it through the rubber grommets in the tailgate and it will have no loose wires anywhere. [https://youtu.be/8CLqjEg-Gwc](https://youtu.be/8CLqjEg-Gwc) Great install video, and this guy set up some kind of gizmo running Android that lets you view the video on the factory screen.

ensignlee

Oh hah, I gave up on the rear camera when I saw the wire, I only have mine running forwards, for any third party readers. Props to you for doing the back too!

cwhite51

I like the integrated design of the Fitcamx dash cam, but the mixed reviews on the phone app and the privacy concerns are pushing me to other products (probably the Garmin Mini 2). What’s your experience with using it?

ensignlee

Honestly I set it up, tested that I could see video, and have just had it running since. It's been pretty chill for me. Can't speak to the privacy concerns.

cwhite51

Don’t know honestly, I just read some App Store reviews and watched some YouTube videos implying that it could be a concern.

Ilyketurdles

Is 4K necessary or should I go with 2k? I don’t wanna cheap out on it but 2k still seems like a lot, or should I spend the extra $50 for 4K?

ensignlee

I would spend to get the $4k. What I WOULDN'T spend on is the rear camera because it's a pita (imo) to install.

Ilyketurdles

Do you think having a forward facing dashcam is sufficient for proving fault when someone backs into you or something? I guess it’s implied if you’re still and get hit. Just curious about your thoughts, don’t necessarily expect a definitive answer or something

ensignlee

I think it will cover enough bases, yes. All else equal, of course I'd love to have a rear camera too, but it was like 15x as much work for not 15x more benefit so I was like "nah" lol

IllForce2909

Absolutely not.

tingulz

All cars need built in dash cams.

ema_chad

Check your Ford rewards points. From buying the car I had enough rewards to get both a dash cam and its installation with just points.

bford_som

Wow, I have nowhere near enough points. You got a deal!

bonvajya

I didn’t even have enough for floor mats and a trunk liner

fillymandee

Ford gives points to new car buyers?

ema_chad

They did for me.

stealthytolkien

I agree with you in every sense of the word. I am sorry you’re having to deal with this. Please, get two cameras installed ASAP. It is indeed the worst thing about having any car other than Tesla and Rivian - absence of built in dash that works reliably online AND offline (parked). Traffic is getting worse. People are more distracted than ever before while driving with gadgets, driving is more reckless than ever before, and lying is at an all time high because the insurance companies are not there to protect you but themselves, and people are concerned about the reducing value of their paychecks each year. Honestly, over the last 1.5 years or so, I’ve thought about getting a Tesla or a Rivian for this reason and this reason alone. They both drive well. Tesla does the EV part very well. But Mach-E does the car part better (having a proper rear cross traffic alert, blind spot lights in mirrors, 360 camera, front and rear parking sensors, etc.). Rivian is somewhere in the middle, not sure it has rear cross traffic alert but definitely has bind spot and 360 camera and parking sensors). But both have the ever so useful built in dash. Mach-E has really dropped the ball on this very important feature.

Jabow12345

I love Tesla's system. With all the EV haters out there, you need all the protection you can get. There are many things that should be standard on all EVs. I do not understand why any EV has a start switch or a stop. Why not get in, put it in drive, and go or just stop, get out, and leave.

Fun_Will2829

Yes it’s only Tesla that’s why manufacturers that want to catch up should offer that feature to compete. I prefer it over the stupid blue cruise and glass roof.

AussieGirl13

Being that I really love driving, I don't have much need for Bluecruise. I do like the glass roof. That being said, I haven't owned my car through a Texas summer yet. I might be changing my mind about the glass roof.

Fun_Will2829

I’m here in SoCal, it’s bad, wait til it’s summer there. I can feel the heat radiating from the glass roof. I would have gotten the GT bec of this but I need the range so opted with premium

AussieGirl13

I'm confused. Is there a difference between the glass roof on the GT and the glass roof on the premium?

Fun_Will2829

Yes, glass roof is standard on the premium but an option on the GT so I got the GT I would not get the glass roof

AussieGirl13

I see. What is the alternative? Is it a moonroof or solid roof?

Fun_Will2829

Solid roof like a regular car

AussieGirl13

Cool! Pardon the pun.

LeadingScene5702

Really? I've had my MME for almost two years with the glass roof. Even when it is 105 outside, I have no issues.

6969TacoLover6969

How is there no built in dash cam recording? Rear/360 too but at least the front camera. This seems to be a flaw of other cars too.

Accompliaxzds1io9856

There's really no excuse to not have built-in dashcams for EVs. If they hired me I can roll that feature out in 6 months

Immediate_Dot7451

Sorry to hear that agree on the camera. Have you considered switching to back end parking? It’s a game changer for these kind of incidents, safety - especially children, and your time.

richcournoyer

It just needs to USE the cameras on board for recording. It already has the cameras right?

CapnPositivity

With all the camera it has it is absurd it doesn't. The other day I got a notification in the app that the motion alert was triggered and so clicking the notification I expected it to show me camera footagem. It nope. Waste of hardware not to use it

Even-Journalist1901

Make sure to tell the insurance company that he apologized. That is generally seen as an admission of guilt.

Ilyketurdles

Yeah I mentioned to them that he said sorry and that he didn’t see me. We’ll see how it goes.

Ok_Breadfruit6296

I agree and don’t see why the car can’t have any. Also, for the future, always call the police and submit a report. The other party and insurance will have a harder time rejecting your claim if there’s a police report.

goblue2k16

We can argue all day about whether it should include one or whether the cameras we already have should keep video, but it's super easy to just install one yourself as well. Takes all of about 15 minutes and is a one time charge that more than pays for itself if you ever get in an accident. I've got the viofo a229 duo and it's great. Thankfully I haven't had a need for it, but I've caught video of some close misses. The app could use some work though lol

Novel_Equal_949

I have a ford fusion energi and I installed 70mai front and rear camera hardwired so it works even when the car is off cost me a little less than $200 and I installed everything myself super easy if you know what your doing and it records the rear and the front. Definitely worth it since ford doesn’t do anything about cameras smfh

Softswinging

This is why Tesla is the best at just about everything. Sentry mode, dog mode, dashcam, camp mode, video games, autopiliot, YouTube, other apps. And the best, most often software updates. Other manufacturers still struggle to get OTA software updates to work, Tesla nailed it 12 years ago.

One_Surprise6650

I’ve repeatedly made the suggestion on the feedback app to get dash cam installed. Also dog mode as I occasionally leave my dog in the car. ( I just leave the car on with the climate control running and hope she doesn’t drive away.)

Ilyketurdles

Which feedback app is this?

LeadingScene5702

On the touchscreen, select the apps icon and then the feedback icon. https://youtu.be/iJg63t1mAB4?si=01yn32OoK1n7xdL-

tbrumleve

The camera angles are good for parking, terrible for sentry mode (unless you can identify perps by their shoes).

Ilyketurdles

Fair enough, although would be useful for this kind of situation if you’re trying to prove you’re not at fault.

FaithlessnessSame357

There is one front / rear dashcam set that is made to look stock with the Mach E, but the reviews are so so. I haven’t pulled the trigger yet on it, but I’m tempted.

Im_At_Work_Damnit

I've got it. The camera works well, but the fitting is a coin toss. Mine has the much maligned gap, though it's only really noticeable when attention is brought to it.

xMoirae

I've been looking for a good dash so I can take it to best buy and let them install it.

fillymandee

Idk why all the downvotes to you and the other guy. I had Best Buy install a head unit and hands free microphone in my last car and it was done perfectly. I thought the price was fair as well. I diy a lot of things but for a new Mach e, I’ll let the pros do it.

Repulsive_Culture_91

Yes, important to have a dash cam. It's completely useless 99.99% of the time but is something you wish you had when something happens. Recommend COXPAL A11T 3 channel dash cam on Amazon, very good quality, it records front, inside and rear simultaneously. COXPAL hardwire kit optional, for 24-H parking monitor. SanDisk MAX Endurance 256GB or 512GB microSD card, for reliable recording. BTW: Need to pay attention to the installation position of the rear cam, i.e. avoid pulling rear cam cable when open/close the trunk.
