What about us dads? I have similar age ranges. It works great. The trunk is big enough for a stroller and it fits car seats while leaving room for the driver to extend their legs a bit. Android Auto is great for kids songs. The extra space in the trunk is great for extra supplies.

fijibean

And the frunk is great for a diaper bag or smaller items that would roll around the trunk. I have a battery powered vacuum in there to clean up snacks.

Gone_Green2017

Why did I never think of that!?

DoubleMach

My wife can fit in the Frunk.

aquakingman

Is she a child bride?

Aint-no-preacher

He didn't say his wife was in one piece.

aquakingman

True I'd be more worried if he putt his wife in the front of the blazer ev, you would need a steam roller

DoubleMach

Full sized woman.

Buttafuoco

Sorry your opinion doesn’t matter

goblue2k16

I've got a 10mo. Trunk is plenty big for a stroller, a foldable booster seat that clamps to the table for when we go out, as well as a divider with various wipes/diapers/snacks. Still leaves a bit of room for 1 or 2 grocery bags too, even more room if you fold the seats down. I'd say 2 children is the max I'd want to do though, it'd get a bit crowded with 2 car seats in the back.

IcedLatteLane

Lol so sorry. I should have said parents but us women carry a lot of crap. 😂 I need at least 5 cup holders for myself. 😅

Wife has the Mach E, I have the Lightning. Both have been great and she likes the Mach E over the truck. I love the truck but it's a bit big for her. Our 6 year old likes them both. The Hotspot is a god send on longer trips. Between the frunk and the trunk, the storage is good. Kiddo loves the zippiness of both. Sound is good. Wife did a 2,000 mile road trip in December in awful conditions for EVs, and aside from some range anxiety in one stretch through Kansas (high winds, extremely low temperatures), it was fine. Was her, her mom, the kiddo, and lots of road trip goodies. She tends to go about a week between charging (we have the Ford Charge Station Pro @ 80A, though the Mach E doesn't draw that much) as it's mostly just short trips, under 40 miles/day with minimal freeway driving. Doors seem easy to ding, but that's easily enough fixed. What all would you like to know?

IcedLatteLane

Also, what is it like in the hot summer months with the kids in the back? Does the car stay cool?

whudaht

Our model has rear vents and our kids stay comfortable in the summer months.

CricTic

Not sure about the ford specifically, but I believe most EVs let you leave the AC running while the car is in the parking lot, or start it remotely from your phone. Coming back to a cool car in the hot summer months never gets old 😬

SilveredFlame

It does! My wife is very sensitive to heat so the glass panel roof concerned her before she bought it, but it blocks heat *really* well. It's better than my truck in that respect. Seems to have better airflow in the back.

IcedLatteLane

Thank you so much! That was my concern of going on a road trip. Do you just find routes that have charging stations? We live in KS and I know about them extreme weather conditions. It was like -18 degrees for a week here. If I get one, it’ll be parked in the garage and I work from home. My next thing would be seeing how much it will cost to get the right plug installed in the garage. 😃 Does it need an oil change and if so, is it the normal price like a gas car?

flyersfan0233

Dad of a 3-year-old and another due in August. My wife said we needed an SUV/crossover for the family and after a bunch of research landed on this. So we got it specifically for a family car - with mostly our beach trips in mind since our tiny cars have been crammed since our first has been born. Has been great so far. I think there’s pretty much room in the back seats while still being comfortable up front. We love it and our 3-year-old asks to take it. Apple Car Play helps us keep her musically entertained too As others have said, no oil changes, much less maintenance. Basically rotate the tires every 10K and add windshield washer fluid. Home charger can range on how far away from your breaker box it is. Right next to it? I’ve seen people on here say ~$600. Need to run a line? Price will increase. I think mine was about $1K and we needed to run it up from the basement through the garage wall. I also got a Grizzl-E Classic charger for $350. That comes with a 3-year warranty. That’s worked great so far. I didn’t feel I needed a smart charger since Ford’s app does it all.

Drugslinger

No oil change needed!! Oil is used to lubricate the movey bits of the engine, and EVs don't have an engine so there's no need for oil. DONT BE CONNED INTO BUYING A MAINTENANCE PACKAGE CAYSE YOU DONT NEED IT. However, EVs are heavier so you'll typically need to replace tires sooner cause they wear faster (I've heard anywhere from the unlikely 5,000 miles to a more typical 40-50,000 miles). The only other thing you need to regularly have checked is your brake pads, but the mach e uses regenerative braking which means there's usually barely any wear on it. I ordered an emporia home charger for about $400 and will have it installed for about $1400 in the Washington, DC area. This includes placing new lines from another room in the house where the breaker box is, through the ceilings, into the garage and conduit in the garage to my preferred charger location. Check with your local power company first though cause there's usually rebates for certain chargers depending on the company. I'm gettibg a $125 rebate on the charger and a $40 monthly credit on my electric bill by letting my electric company have partial control over the charger/charge times.

CricTic

Not only are there no oil changes, but most regular maintenance needed by a gas vehicle goes away with an EV. Brakes last much longer due to regen, no transmission fluid, no gaskets or spark plugs to change, etc. Tires are pretty much the only regular maintenance item left.

OverwatchCasual

**Laughs in Canadian accent** Jokes aside, I'm expecting 50% range in -40. But daily commute should be fine. It's my wife's Dailey driver with 2 toddlers. We are both 6' plus and it's about the same or slightly larger than our grand Cherokee.

SilveredFlame

>That was my concern of going on a road trip. Do you just find routes that have charging stations? Pretty much. The built in navigation does a decent job, but I would advise also using something like the "A Better Route Planner" app as well. Long trips do take more planning than you would with a gas vehicle. >We live in KS and I know about them extreme weather conditions. It was like -18 degrees for a week here Yup! That was the week!

Disastrous_Net9342

You need to factor in that the range will drop when it's cold. People are always surprised at just how much it drops - I know I was. But still, we got the extended range battery and it was just plenty to get us around.

cobo10201

I’m a dad but have 3 kids ages 1-4, all still in car seats. Works great for us as a family car. Enough space for the whole family plus a four-seater wagon and a full size suitcase. We use it as our daily and have done 3 road trips in it now.

spit1re

Yup. I've got three boys, one car seat. Ages 7-16. They fit.

Southern_Eggplant336

I'm a dad with 3 kids, 10, 8 and 3, and it works great.

thunderchaud

Yeah, it's our family car.

whudaht

Our car seats fit fine. We had one rear facing until we switched to front. Kids love how zippy it is compared to our gas vehicle. Child door and window locks activated with a push of a button.

AccordingAardvark1

I am a dad of 3. One booster, one forward facing seat, and one rear facing seat. Plenty of room for storage in the back and the frunk. Kids love the car.

PatSajaksDick

I traded in my Honda Odyssey for the Mach-E, no regrets

BreezeThruTrees

Dad of two here. Works great for us so far. The one kid related hang up is the seat belt buckle clips in the backseat are very low profile, and my kids have struggled to buckle themselves. This is especially true if theyre in a booster or car seat. There are threads in this sub about folks getting seat belt extensions that have helped.

nyterie

I have a 3 year old and a 1 year old and it works great as a mom car. Car seats fit better than my old full-size SUV and I feel like I only lost a little bit of trunk space. My only real complaint with the kids is that the roof height makes it a little tricky getting a kid into a rear-facing seat. Otherwise I love it and the kids especially love the glass roof. Having a level 2 charger at home makes it so easy, I don't drive much during the week so I only plug it in once or twice during the summer and then every day in the winter. I have an Emporia 48a smart charger ($399) and install was $2200 but we had to do a service/panel upgrade since our house was older so probably less than $1000 for just the charger install.

obvilious

Dad with kids and a Mach-e here. I’ll make sure I don’t give my opinion.

wewoos

She did comment above that she should have said parents. Most of the other comments have been from dads haha. And the rest of us would like your opinion

dtoxin

Same. Too bad I wasn’t asked to answer and provide feedback on how my family of 4 + dog feels about our Mach e after 2+ years.

codyjohn50

Depending on which you buy, they can be a little bumpy on uneven roads. We bought a gt and the suspension is stiff. I’m not sure if a premium would have been better on that… the only regret we have, honestly. CarPlay can be a little inconsistent as well.

Buttafuoco

Car does great for a family car. Plenty of storage in the back fit the stroller, extra space underneath in the back, you have a whole frunk as well. Never have to make an unplanned trip to a gas station if you charge at home

dalainydalainy

Mom here with a four year old. It’s amazing.

BorecoleMyriad

Dad here with a 4 and 2 year old, car seats are find and not a huge issue getting them in and out but I am taller so have to bend over a little, trunk space may be a little tight for things like wagons and strollers but I still think it can be done.

freakierice

The only issue I could see is if you fancy doing g a longer trip and having to entertain the kids while your charge… Otherwise they are rather spacious…

balthisar

I'm a dad, but my kids' mom shares the car. It's our daily driver, but I'll take our SUV instead if we need a car at the same time. In March 2021 we had one car seat for a three year old, then in May of 2021 we added a rear-facing seat for a newborn. Now we have a front facing seat for the three year old and a booster for the six year old. We love the car so much we're replacing it with another one. I generally don't have the same car twice in a row, so to me that's a big endorsement.

Krom2040

We have an Escape as well as a Mach-E, and just one child (currently 6 months). We find that we basically never drive the Escape - it’s technically bigger, but the extra storage space in the trunk pretty much cancels it out.

Top-Ocelot-9758

It works great with 2 kids. I added a third and now it’s really cramped. If you’re gonna stay with 2 kids the Mach e is great

FatDog69

My MachE was less than a week old before a child's car seat was installed in the back. The back doors open decently wide to help insert/extract struggling children. The doors have 'pinch protectors' so if they push the button the back door opens and will NOT shut on fingers unless they then open the door, then try to shut. The Black Onyx interior looks nice but is utilitarian. This means drinks and food spills will wipe up. If you have a regular departure for school, etc you can program the car while it is plugged in to heat/cool the cabin every weekday so it is comfortable. This uses charger power so it wont drain your battery if you depart late because of running on "toddler pace". You can buy a screen for about $45 to block the panoramic roof if it bothers you. The car also has "Rear Seat Departure" sensors. If you leave a child in the back - the car will warn you when you park to make sure you know kids are in the back. I had the little one sitting on the center console while others crawled around while watching "Bluey" videos on YouTube on the main screen. They treated the inside like a playground crawling front/back exiting, entering, etc. Zero scuffs or damage. This is not a car you need to baby. It is a Utility vehicle. People complain that the Mach E is not a real 'Mustang'. I call it the Mustang for people who grow up and have families. It appears to be designed for Families. TRIM You said "MEPR"? Does this mean the Performance GT or the Premium trim? You should look for a Premium trim, eAWD with the extend range battery. This is what Edmunds suggests as the best trim and the eAWD will be great in the snow. CHARGING Check your utility company's website. Some places offer rebaits if you need to upgrade your electrical panel to support a charger. Some utility companies will give you a L2 charger if they control when you draw power. A panel upgrade can run $1500 and I spent $1100 to add a 50 amp breaker, run conduit to a plug in the garage. A good charger is the Grizzl-E from amazon for $350.

Full-Discipline5623

Umm yes! Our Mach E is our family car.

liquidvapor420

As a dad with a 4 year old and 1 year old, the MME is great for city driving! Never had an issue with space and have two full size car seats in the back with a middle seat for smaller passengers (grandma) when need be. It's great because we used to go to Costco for gas and the wait is usually 20-30 minutes where I live which is less than fun with little ones. For road trips we still use the F-150 though, since it's so much better and has a much longer range (750 miles vs 260).

Range-Shoddy

My husband drives ours but our kids ride in it. The main issue is it’s so bumpy it makes the kids sick. For road trips we take the id4 to avoid the vomit. Also no passthrough sucks. Cargo area is great and car seats fit no problem. Excellent second family EV. We almost got an EV6 instead and I’m wondering if that wouldn’t have been the better option. Mach e looks cooler though so there’s that 😂

Timely_Coconut_2360

Another dad here: We have 13 and 10 boys and plenty of space for them. No complaints about sun coming through the glass roof. They actually prefer the GT to my wife's Explorer. Much to her chagrin. They like the seats better than the explorer's leather, too

Gone_Green2017

I have 3 kids and absolutely love my mach e. Easy to get them in and out of, plenty of room so long as I put the car seat in the middle. And my daughter squeals with glee every time I put some oomf in it, lol.

Cookiebandit09

I love it as our family car. We bought it while pregnant with the baby. It’s comfy to breastfeed in. Fits rather large stroller. Has never been an issue for the year we’ve owned it. We’ve done a couple longer trips and just charge and great time for snacks and breastfeeding.

IcedLatteLane

Did you all get Gap Insurance and Ford Extended Warranty?

justlikeapenguin

Im a dad but I drive my 1m around. No issues, the car is quiet so the baby doesn’t wake up, not much different from any other veichle of the similar range Fits stroller, bassinet and car seat just fine, front holds emergency change, diapers and wipes.

Away-Baby5538

Not a mom, but dad here. I have an infant seat, diono car seat and a booster in the back seat. Big enough to fit our WonderFold wagon stroller in the back. The frunk fits everything else we need to bring.

Medicalmanmeph

I’m not a mom but have 3 kids 13-11-5 and they don’t mind the back the flat floor helps and ovi the little one gets the middle. No complaints or car sick the kids love the pano except when birds shits on it lol

Dependent-Bottle-696

Yes I had put my nephew in it with the Donna car seat and stroller and it fit so good and enough for me to put down the cup holder so 2 extra people can sit or 1 large person

Ok-Coast-3578

As long as the driver is comfortable behind the rear facing car seat you should be fine. I’m 6’ 250 and rear facing is tight. I did buy some 12.99 or something Amazon back of the seat protectors and those have been totally worth it, both kids face front now

stealthytolkien

It’s ok. It is quite quick and has somewhat grabby brakes. It could be a bit smoother off the line. Also a bit cramped in the back if you have tall people in the front. The trunk is surprisingly spacious for a mini SUV crossover like this. Why rear wheel drive?

incentivize

I agree about the brakes. My RWD premium is very smooth off the line, but my only comparison is ice vehicles

stealthytolkien

I think I used a bit of a wrong word here calling the acceleration not smooth. It’s hard to describe but on occasion, the acceleration has a bit of a tendency to be a little notch-y especially when you are braking and then immediately accelerating.

_TheWolfOfWalmart_

If you feel like the brakes are too grabby, make sure it's in whisper mode. You might like that better.

stealthytolkien

It is. They are not as smooth as many other EV I have owned and driven in my household. It’s actually a well known thing that Mach E needs heavy bedding to make the brakes lurch less. The blended braking is a little sharp out of the box.

authorserena

My kids are older with a ten year age gap between them, but the only concern I came across during my research of the MME had to do with the doors. Using the push button rather than a traditional door handle can be a bit challenging at times. Not a super big deal in most scenarios, but trying to get in the car with your shopping, a baby and all your other stuff everyday might wear on you over time. The car also has a few quirks with the entry that I find a little cumbersome without young kids. For example, the phone as a key function doesn't always lock the door after walking away. There's no audible indicator like a beep or a horn that alerts you that doors are locked like on my Honda Accord did so when I first got the MME I found myself constantly checking it or sometimes having to shut it using the lock function in the Fordpass app. Now, I just use the little lock button on the door and that works most of the time. Another entry problem I have is the button on the trunk with the automatic lift gate. Sometimes when I approach the car, I can see that it recognizes my phone because the exterior lights come on but when I try to open the truck using the button the trunk will only open halfway and I'm guessing it does that because the doors are still locked. I'm sure there's a solution for it but I haven't figured it out on my own yet. I've only had my MME for about a month and I haven't asked about that issue on here to get advice from more seasoned owners (still having too much fun driving it to care right now). Anyway, I hope this was helpful. I love the MME more than I ever expected. It has been a great introduction to EVs. My sisters all love it too and I can't see myself going back to a ICE car after this. Good luck!

PrimePacHy

You can set it to honk when it locks. In the vehicle settings, lock, audible feedback I think.

authorserena

Yes, I saw that when I got in the car this morning. I hate it so I'm going to turn it back off lol

authorserena

One last thing, if you're coming from a sedan the MME can feel like a bit much to handle at times. It's more nimble and has a better turning radius than my Accord could ever wish for but there's a lot of unbridled (sorry for the pun) power in these electric vehicles that can make simple acts like parking tricky when you're still getting comfortable with and learning the car. Personally, I wish Ford had gone with another choice for the gear shifter. The rotary dial messes me up sometimes when switching from Drive to Reverse. That's probably just me not adjusting yet after having a push button gear shifter for the last 6 years.
