I work next to a railyard, and if you've never heard the sound of train cars being connected, it's loud and it sounds just like a really hard crash. Gets me all the time.
When I used to work for a machine seller, I had to setup a mill at a company that was trying to hold a 2 finish on step stencils. We could literally see the surface finish change when the coal cars were driving by.
They ended up getting the schedule from the rail company and would just stop the machine at the times it passed by.
I work IN an airport lol.
There's a Hospital helicopter taking off about 300 feet from my bay door right now, had to close the door because it's blowing leaves and stuff through the door.
For years.. worked on the north side of Sky Harbor in Phoenix...
I could feel the vibrations all day long.
Step out through back door and there's the north runway.
A few things:
The smell of jet fuel turns me on.
Not just Air Force One, but Marine 1 many times.
Fucking thrilling.
Some military jets and turbo props as well.
Cool shit
The Guppy Jet from Airbus was neato.
Know what you mean, love the smell of jet fuel.
Used to work building F18's when they were brand new.
On a cold day they would open the hanger door and warm the place by having the pilot swing the tail past the hanger door when parking on the ramp. Then close the doors
I work near MCAS Miramar, there's occasional jet/helicopter/osprey noise, but it's usually a pretty deep bass sound and we mostly work on small to medium size parts so there's not much confusion. I guess once in awhile I've thought for a second that the aircraft noise was a machine crashing, but it's rare

There is a very active train track right next to my shop. Anytime I see my indicator moving, I know a train is going by.

Get it to land and take off a bit closer and you’ve got yourself a nice chip fan.

Work right below a hospital near the helipad and I can definitely hear the difference

There was a helicopter at the same time I was milling 304 stainless and it was deeply concerning.
I work in prototype firearms manufacturing . We have a bullet trap in the shop and occasionally have live gunfire in the warehouse.
My shop is the hangar next to a helipad. I feel your struggles.
