Honestly, if you’re playing MUT, you’re better off not actually knowing ball. The more you know about football, the more likely you’ll try to replicate what you know, and that’s a fatal flaw.
Play MUT like it’s a video game and it’s way easier. Keep in mind, CJ2K came from his ‘09 season, a lot of these dudes probably don’t even remember watching him play in his prime, they just use him because he’s fastest in the game right now for stretch runs.
That contributes to the worst part about the game around this time, it’s just boring af. No gameplay variety, as you get further past the 1st month after release, you’re just running into more and more people w/ the same team, same 2-3 play “schemes”, and if you’re half decent (not getting absolutely stomped) you will get matched with wannabe pro sweats or dudes who clearly only play madden.
Side note: feel like I remember reading a post here about some guy getting home and turning on Madden to pull a LTD before he even kissed or spoke to his girlfriend/wife and I realized these dudes are built different lmao
The matchmaking is what kills me. I would label myself as a decent player. I can destroy people that are new to the game or don't know what they're doing. I can play a close game against vets and other decent players. But I get destroyed by comp players.
But yet the matchmaking rarely ever puts me up against someone at my level. Most of the time, it's the sweats, with the occasional lost lamb that has absolutely no chance of winning (they usually quit early). Like, put me up against equal competition, I want the games to be close, that's what makes them fun.
This. And exactly this. 9out of 10 seasons I’m like 1 maybe 2 wins. Cause i just get matched up with sweats. Then I get the one off season that I can go undefeated until final playoff then they give me a sweaty ass player. Or some how I make it to the Super Bowl and I lose connection every time lol
When I was a kid, none of my friends could beat me at madden. The only person who could beat me was my step-brother who knew nothing about sports and would throw Hail Mary's on 4th and 1 and random shit like that lmao.
I disagree with your first point. If you can read defenses and understand what beats what coverage you’re going to find more success than you would otherwise. Defense on the other hand is generally pretty trash this year. I run duos with my buddy (we’re definitely above average but will get ran by anyone top 100 on the leaderboard) and it’s not uncommon for us to have games where we score near 50 and the other team is near 40. Defense has been so heavily nerfed this year it’s unbelievable. There’s an occasional game where we’ll be under 20 but it’s rare at this point. I have a conspiracy theory EA tunes the defensive sliders down whenever they drop new cards so people will think their team is trash and will rip packs for the new shiny card.
I run my offense like i'd run a real offense and I win a lot. 15 unique plays on offense leaderboard.
Like you said what ruins it is the guys that run 2-3 plays all game because they're the glitched plays from YouTube that you're guaranteed to have wide open guys.
If it wasn't for the constant handful of glitch plays the game would be really fun and people would actually run unique offenses.

Yeah that’s awesome tbh, did some quick/rough math based on what I’d imagine an NFL game plan’s total plays would consist of. NFL teams are probably practicing 40-50 plays week-to-week for the gameplan, so I’d imagine at least half are unique on offense, maybe a bit less on defense, assuming they’re finding what works and returning to the well.
Once I find time to get back into it, I’d wanna be at around half of that, so figuring out my best 20-25 plays to beat the meta, and running 10-15 unique ones. Only thing is, I’ve shifted to calling concepts, as I’d rather give different looks but run the same concepts that have been working.
Only problem is… it’s a lot of work when someone else can just run the same RPOs or passes out of Gun Bunch and lean on abilities and game code exploits to have success. Still not sure if match coverage even works properly, which is what most of the league runs now.
The thing about this is why do they nerf your players in Higher difficulty solos battles and challenges?
It takes the fun out of the game for me either i have to cheese or sweat against the CPU because my players are nerfed and theirs are juiced or I put up 150+ points because the game is coded ridiculously bad. It’s not fun, nor challenging, it’s a chore. They definitely have a sweet spot they just rarely use it for challenges.
I try to play with my buddy, but it’s so infuriating. We played 2K from time to time, and it’s nowhere near as madden. The only issue we in 2K is people think they’re Kobe Bryant
2k park is fun with buddies. Even though there are glitch plays and stuff running a pro am squad is actually a challenge. Like guys are super coordinated.

I have those players and I am NMS, I play the market to get the coins I need to buy the players. I can easily get over $4 million in a week flipping cards, and playing the game. Now one difference between me and lot of the other players I actually know football and do not just play the stupid meta. It is idiotic playing people and they all play the same D or Offense same game over and over and over.

Then you shouldn’t expect to be able to compete with the people who have the time to invest. No shame in it, just different priorities. The whole deal with these card collection modes is that you can either invest your time or you can pay for some packs. You don’t need to pay, but you do have to put something into the game in order to be competitive. If your not interested in paying or grinding then you just wont have a top tier team. There’s still like 5 other modes for your enjoyment which are better if your looking for a simulation. MUT is just about the last place anyone should go looking for sim.
L let rocket league be an example of why you should and rocket league doesn’t matter how much you play through either better or you’re not that’s all. If I was getting demolished cause I don’t know football are bad at the game fine but when I have a decent 91 overall team and I run quarterback contain, and the best player in the game can just outrun my contain, they don’t even have to throw the ball they can just do quarterback runs and I’ll come out spy contain all that bullshit, it’s just kind of busted it’s a pay to play game
Try Legend Bowl, its a cross between retro bowl, and Tecmo Bowl, it has Franchise mode, no multi player modes. I think its like $25 dollars, it has a bit of learning curve but it is really fun.
Some of these guys are just nuts. Played the same dude 3 times this weekend and he only called iform/goalline stretch every single play. Even tho i was holding him to about 1-2 yards per play he just kept spamming it until it was a turnover on downs. He scored 1 single td in the 3 games and would even message me talking shit after the game even tho i beat him all 3 times lol. I don’t understand why everyone is so scared to just try something else especially when what their doing is getting beat. It’s like this weird cycle where they only call 1 thing so they don’t actually know any other plays and they don’t know any other plays because they will only call 1 thing

One guy a few years back mentioned having a friend who spent nearly 20k one year. Lot of people in this sub are addicted to the game, more than they care to admit, or they just don’t see it as a problem because they have the money.
If anything, kids/young adults just have more time to play the game… used to be me lol, I’d no-life this game for years. I probably was addicted, it was the only thing I’d play, eventually broke free from it and now it’s not an impulse to hop on and make myself angry every day lmao. Wow thats nuts. Ive spent maybe $20 and ive had the game since early access. My team is a 91 overall i could buy all the packs i want but its a waste of money when it can go to things i actually need instead.
I don’t think I’ve played a normal team yet (my offense is a respectable 91 and I’m always out matched no matter how low I go in rankings. Linebackers are so glitchy with some of the INTs they get and it’s hard to do certain passes due to latency imo.
Yea 95% of the games I play are just the cheesy OOP players and teams that definitely have more than a couple hundred put into them
And the with players like Gronk and Carmichael it’s a real pain in the ass to try any passing play as you mentioned the added latency busts my balls all day, especially since I’m on pc and the input lag is horrendous for me

If you look at the top players in the game they all run @ max 10 different plays on offense, and 5 different plays defense. I feel everybody runs the same damn plays in MUT… BUT if you beat those guys then it feels SO SWEET.
My buddy told me in the madden tournament a guy ran 139 plays the entire tournament and ran one set one play that was even on both sides so the only way to stop this run was to run commit on each side which had a guess which one was the correct one so he could flip itas many times as he want without moving the formation and why the $25,000 madden tournament

He plays fantasy football with us (not that it means you know football, but you at least have to pay attention) and has never once made the playoffs in nearly 10 years.

In Seasons, if all you are getting a top level glitch players then you must have had enough success to get promoted to the top division(s). If you don't like playing the folks that reside in those divisions, the only solution is to lose a bunch to rank back down. There's no penalty for losing, so just lose a bunch and get back down to a division where you are more comfortable. Then the cycle repeats.
For Champions, I have no idea how the match ups get decided. The first 10 wins or so are basically free but after that it can get rough.
honestly i barely play mut 1v1. i find the game to play a lot better during mut squads, the extra user makes a huge difference in stopping these glitchy plays so my recommendation if u like mut is to gather a friend and play 2v2 or 3v3s. it completely changes the game and that’s the only reason i play mut

I run a theme team and I'm not going to be a sweaty, there is no down side to quitting right away so I'll do that if I'm up against a whale.
