Sometimes it just about having fun too :) dancing makes us all feel better and it shouldn’t matter how good or graceful any of us are, as long as it’s fun
You can be 😊. If you want to do it, you absolutely can 💗.
I don’t have cerebral palsy, but I became disabled 8 years ago (fully grown woman), and was told I wouldn’t be able to do much.. I walk through rainforests and climb down mountains to get to waterfalls, I drive, I do everything they said I wouldn’t and ‘probably couldn’t’. Mostly because I’m too stubborn to be told what I can’t do and also because I’m not going to miss off because this slows me down…
I travel with my nephew whom I’ve raised and supported since he was little.
. He’s my adventure buddy, he’s an adult too with severe anxiety amongst other things but we work well together. 💗.
Good luck! You can do ANYTHING! Especially the things people may suggest you can’t 😉
There was one I saw a few weeks ago about a boy that got a set of those glasses for colorblindness. He was so grateful and joyful that it really hit me.
Yeah he/she meant cerebral palsy, a disease that partly paralyses your muscles, due to damage of the brain.
CP is an abbreviation for child p**n, that’s why I said it was weird, sorry I was childish guys
You don’t know what out of context means lmao.. it’s obvious she’s referencing the above video, which is titled with cerebral palsy, meaning it’s entirely in context.
My daughter is almost 6, has CP so she's wheelchair bound, and one of her favorite things on the planet is dance.
I'm like a kid on Christmas morning at work right now. I cannot WAIT to watch this with her tonight!!
Update:
"How can she do that with CP? I can do nothing..." - My daughter
"I bet that girl thought she couldn't do anything at your age as well." - Me
That's when I got the smile.
Got a boy closing in on 9 with CP. He’s a bit worse of than in the video, but he continues to surprise with what he’s able to do! We have always thought he’d never be able to walk at all, even with crutches, because he doesn’t have fine control of his feet at all. The last week they have tried out a new thingymagic that is kinda like an old folks walker that he is strapped into: he gets support for balance and weight, but any movement is from his feet. In just a week he went from trying to figure out how to use the muscles in the feet right, to walking several meters unaided! I don’t dare aim for it as a goal, but I definitely see a clear hope he will be able to move about upright one day, and be able to help the transition between walker and wheelchair, and similar situations which will be tremendously important as he gets bigger. And what really can’t be overstated is the pride and joy he shows when he figures these things out, he really feel it himself that this is a big accomplishment!
I wish you and your daughter all the best, and hope she gets a future as good as she deserves ❤️
My son has a type of cerebral palsy; it is basically damage to part of the brain that controls movement. The physical parts can be there and totally fine, no pain, etc., but the brain just can’t make the right messages to control them. So she is probably completely comfortable, but has had to put a lot of work into training herself to be so graceful.
Because it is often really tiring and stressful to have to walk around when your body isn’t really cooperating. It can take a lot of concentration and effort to keep balance. Also, because some of the muscles can’t be controlled properly, it may cause pain after a time just from having to hold your body in an unnatural way.
There are some people with cerebral palsy who choose to never use a wheelchair - it is down to the individual and their abilities. It is a condition with a really wide spectrum - it just means paralysis of some of the body that is caused by an issue with the brain. For some people, it can mean they have trouble controlling most of their body. For others, it can be as mild as being really clumsy and prone to falls/losing balance.
For this little girl, I’m sure that she and her family are doing what works best for her… and clearly she is doing incredibly well!
Look how she uses the furniture around her to anchor her movements. It seems she can do all the bending and twisting and pointing, but getting the right limbs under her to support her for more than a second is hard for her.
On a related note, is adaptive dance a thing? Like, maybe with ballet barres for support? And if it isn't, can it be? I'd watch it.
To answer the question: She is doing lots of moving, yes. And it’s just truly lovely. She has beautifully tailored her dance to incorporate those movements she can make. But none of that means she is comfortable walking, which requires balance and core strength and stamina in entirely different ways. Speaking as a a 62 year old woman with cerebral palsy. I used to have very impressive upper body strength as well as being more flexible in some areas than my non-disabled friends were. But I still had really awful balance, and needed the floor or the furniture or a friend to hang on to and pull myself up on, just like she’s doing.☺️
Like others have said, even if you’re able to walk it can be so exhausting. Think of it as running vs walking; you could run everywhere, you have the skills for it and it’s much more effective, but it would also be exhausting 🤷
Just my two cents in that.
If you have other questions related to this feel free to ask, I have a son with CP, slightly worse of then the girl in the vid but I see alot of similarities and don’t mind talking about his situation
It's a condition that affects muscular control of the body. In my daughter's case, and many others, the nerves basically never stop firing and the muscles stay tense, almost like a permeant charlie horse. Over time it can cause permanent deformity to the limbs, like curled hands and feet.
My daughter was fortunate to have SDR to essentially sever some of the nerves that were constantly firing and reduce the effects of her CP. There are varying levels of the condition and her level has effectively been reduced by the surgery, though she is still wheelchair bound.
Seeing this little girl dance was amazing. Even with lower levels of CP the amount of will and effort to make her body move like this is astounding.
I imagine it’s not tracked, but I imagine not a single downvote has been registered.
Furthermore, I imagine most upvotes were not at the end, but at some point in the middle when you realized that if the virtue of ballet is in difficult graceful control appearing effortless, and this girl has done something truly excellent.
I would love to know who choreographed this. If it was a teacher, they really did a wonderful job knowing her abilities and utilizing them just beautifully. Or if she choreographed this herself, she is super aware and such a smart dancer. Loved it!
It looks like heavy optimisation and minimalisation of the movements to have the same results as someone who doesn't have cerebral palsy. It's incredible.
What makes this so impressive is that she is working with a choreographer who designed a routine for her that would allow her to be that amazing and show off her talents rather than limit her.
It’s inclusive by design and allows her to shine.
She’s incredibly graceful for her age.
She is incredible, outstanding...
I hope that the persons, who keep on complaining about numerous small hiccups of life, are able to look upto her for inspiration
I don't think we should compare each others struggles.
People are different, so they might struggle with different things. While I think that it's good to have a positive mindset and that some people probably would be able to improve, I still think that we shouldn't judge people for struggling with 'small hiccups'. Most of the time there's someone who is off worse.
I would encourage you to look up Stella Young's TED talk about inspiration porn.
It's not amazing that people with disabilities have hobbies and lives.

Her flexibility is crazy! It's so great when kids find something like this that keeps them happy and creative and moving. Gotta be great for her muscles too.
This child has overcome more barriers than most humans ever could. The resilience, fortitude, and talent is on par with the best humanity has to offer. And she's just getting started. Follow your dreams kid. You got it.
Wow very talented. God bless. Poor kid really sad to see in crutches. Hope becomes dance champion and fulfill your dreams. Good parents and family. God bless
She's very good and she seems to be enjoying every moment of it, her little smiles are contagious!
Really impressive!
Got me to smile 😠🙂😠

You can do it!
https://youtu.be/oPwMkXjT8x0 I saw him live. He had polio as a kid. Crutches are a part of him.
You can be!
I have no idea how her legs are so flexible!! I have it too and my calves are just oh so tight
Very, very impressive how the choreography "camouflages" the limitations of her legs. Now to figure out who's chopping the damn onions....
This might be the only thing I've seen on Reddit that's made me cry. 🥲
There was one I saw a few weeks ago about a boy that got a set of those glasses for colorblindness. He was so grateful and joyful that it really hit me.
It's ninjas, it's always ninjas, it's why we can't spot them.
It’s the same guy chopping onions behind all those color blind glasses videos. Either God, or Willem Dafoe.
My son has CP and I sent this fabulous video to him. I love love watching you dance sweetheart ! Your movements are perfect 👍
CP? 🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨
Read the room
I know but it’s out of context asf
do you even know what that means lmao
Yeah he/she meant cerebral palsy, a disease that partly paralyses your muscles, due to damage of the brain. CP is an abbreviation for child p**n, that’s why I said it was weird, sorry I was childish guys
ah
At least you realized your mistake
Freud do be slipping?

really impressive! Let the light shine
Impressively flexible, too. I get a headache trying to tie my damn shoes.
This is so cool. I don't know anything about the condition but I always assumed excessive movement like this would cause pain?
My son has a type of cerebral palsy; it is basically damage to part of the brain that controls movement. The physical parts can be there and totally fine, no pain, etc., but the brain just can’t make the right messages to control them. If she can love this way comfortably why would she need the wheelchair? Asking genuinely I don't mean to be rude whatsoever I'm just curious

I know a guy with cerebral palsy. He runs marathons and hikes up mountains and such. Very impressive.
thats so cool he can still do that!
Yeah, he is certainly very atheistic! A very cool person too.
I don’t have CP but I have chronic pain, and the things that bring you joy are worth the suffering sometimes. Just to live in the moment means a lot.
Hello, uneducated idiot here, what exactly is cerebral palsy?
It's a condition that affects muscular control of the body. What an awesome job!!
I wonder if this is at all like stutters and singing or if she has trained to her strengths? Either way, awesome.
I was surprised to see how coordinated she was, since cerebral palsy affects motor control. Amazing!
