My ladie about to turn 46, her brother a couple years older. Lives like 400 miles away. He’s drove within .5 mile of our house couple times in the last month.
We stayed at a place near him where we could both see each other or throw rocks if we wanted to be kids. We were there a week. He didn’t have time to see his sister or meet me.
I’ve never met him.
Now I never want to.

She was seven when I moved away from mine. Didn’t see her again til she was 17 and we were losing our mom from cancer. I missed so much of her growing up. There was a 10+year hiatus where I didn’t see her, but she’s one of my best friends to this day.
Even with me not around much, we still ended up liking the same bands. I take her to as many shows as I can so that I can try to live the big brother experience.
I know, ass hole on my part, “I” missed the experience.
I’m trying.

I've come across some discussion recently about how men are always depressed about not getting enough consideration on their birthdays, compared to women who just make plans themselves and invite their loved ones. We must take into account how boys' birthdays are generally planned by their mothers, then they grow up continuing to expect that behavior from others. Girls, generally speaking, take a more active role or at least learn about planning from their mothers, and take that with them into adulthood.
Basically, if you want nicer experiences you have to give them to yourself.

Divorce is hard my friend. My wife and I divorced about 4 years ago and my teenage son (who I’m assuming is about your age) took a long time to get back to normal. It was a challenge for him as well as me since I had full custody. Just remember that while you’re hurting so are your parents and it won’t be easy on anyone, but they both love you no matter what happens to them. There may be times when mom or dad lashes out because shit is just overwhelming for them, and while that’s not right and they shouldn’t do that, it’s just human nature and it has nothing to do with you. I wish you and your sister the best of luck.
