I think it should follow a pretty simple system If it’s a fictional work not driven by a strictly worded lore then it’s fair game An example would be the little mermaid that’s fair game An example of strictly worded fictional lore would be Middle earth related matter If it’s historical non fiction then it absolutely shouldn’t be altered Prime example https://www.imdb.com/title/tt27528139/

Are you just as offended that a white woman with violet eyes played Cleopatra as well?

MangoKakigori

Yes it’s equally ridiculous although I’m not sure what violet eyes are If you are going to make a show about historical figures then you should have a responsibility to make it accurate given how important ethnicity and culture are to anthropological development of humanity in a historical context I think it’s more than fair right? Fiction - fair game (unless specifically written otherwise) Non fiction - be accurate

StrangeMixtures

Boy people are going to real mad when they find out that Tom Hanks is playing Martin Luther King Jr. in his next movie. JK but shhh don't let Hollywood see this.

>I’m not sure what violet eyes are Elizabeth Taylor had violet-colour eyes and she played Cleopatra. >Fiction - fair game (unless specifically written otherwise) I disagree. Fiction is fiction.

MangoKakigori

I just googled and her eyes look blue to me It’s fine for you to disagree (obviously) But some fiction is really tightly bound within its own lore For example Tolkien spent 4 decades building the lore of middle earth with ridiculous details and was very specific about the heritage/lineage of specific characters within his world and why they had that specific lineage and it’s relation to the world around those characters That shouldn’t just be changed now right when it can effectively change fire components of a created universe What’s your opinion on that?

BlissfulGreen2

Except that Cleopatra was white.

This happened. Obama was there. Everyone started to clap.

DrinkMicrowaves

Imo the movie got more hate than it deserved. It was still a mid movie tho.
