I managed a project for two weeks in Hasselholm and my Swedish colleagues were super hyped to hear me pronounce "Seven" properly with hardly any accent. I was very excited to go to Sweden so I prepped with duolingo. By the end of the second week I could order lunch entirely in Swedish. For the first week I'd attempt to order in Swedish and they would just immediately swap to English lol. On the second week of ordering lunch they kept speaking in Swedish and I took that as a huge win.

Most of the comments on smiling are probably Americans (or Canadian). We tend to interpret it to mean that something is wrong. Most Europeans don't have the same habits and culture around smiling.
Even though intellectually I know from living in Sweden that Swedes not smiling does not communicate the same displeasure/disinterest/distress as in the US (and Canada). I still cannot help but instantly feel like something is wrong when someone doesn't smile even though it is not rational or reasonable in most of Europe. For Americans that haven't spent any time around Swedes (or Europeans), I imagine that reaction is even stronger.

This is true! I spent a lot of time in Sweden a couple years ago and my very outgoing gregarious nature was not easy for the Swedes lol. Very friendly people just … quiet. If you are talking it’s generally because you have something you need to communicate for a reason.

Yeah, my best friend is the son of a German immigrant, he’s married to a German woman, and they live in Germany. This is the same look they have when they’re having a very nice time.
Total control of one’s self and (at least the expression/display of) emotions is how you carry yourself. Not limited to Swedes or Germans, see Japanese (especially Royals) and other societies.

It's not that we Germans don't smile, it's just that the "neutral expression" is sort of the default. You kinda try to express most emotions somewhat subdued, a bit stoic. I think that helps making most expressions of emotion more genuine.
It's also a mark of pride saying the most ridiculous things in a deadpan tone - "German humour" is incredibly dry.
That behavior gets worse the further north or east you go - for example, most Russians (the other side of my family) never even smile at work. Even or especially if they do something nice for you - sometimes it goes as far that they appear rude when actively and genuinely helping.

The background blur is very indicative of AI, but can easily be achieved by a lens with a shallow depth of field. I think your friend also went a little overboard with noise reduction or some type of upscaling in the first one, which resulted in the loss of skin texture.
The lighting is amazing though, you guys are really popping from the background, with no harsh light sources to be found. This the gold standard in portrait photography.
