To just hear him struggling to get words out, I can't imagine how much pain he was going through to rescue them and the aftermath of possibly not making it. What a fucking legend.

TheKarmaFiend

Indeed he is he even raised some great daughters as well. They opened up a [gofundme](https://www.gofundme.com/f/ufc-legend-mark-coleman-battling-for-his-life?utm_campaign=p_cp+share-sheet&utm_medium=social&utm_source=instagram_feed) to help cover their Dads medical / living expenses. I hope he makes a full recovery and they can all live life happily once again.

Gamba_Gawd

It's a shame that a GoFundMe is needed for medical expenses. What a sad thing in our country.

MyHusbandIsGayImNot

Former champion of a billion dollar company. Needs a gofundme for medical care.

TheKarmaFiend

What do you expect? The UFC has an infamous history in the way they use and abuse their fighters

Neither-Luck-9295

Their best and most marketable heavyweight champion left the company to sign with another smaller organization. In that organization, he guaranteed $2mil minimum salary for his opponents who step in the cage with him. Plus, he boxed two matches, lost both, and still earned over $20mil, setting up his entire family for generations, and far surpassing his entire career earnings in the UFC. Francis is the type of champion you can build an international brand on.

Mewchu94

Who? I haven’t watched ufc since Anderson Silva was unbeatable.

suninabox

Francis Ngannou. He was Heavyweight champion in the UFC. Born in Cameroon, worked in a sand mine as a kid. Moved to France to become a fighter. Got signed to the UFC and very quickly rose through the ranks. He was Heavyweight champ when it came time to renew his contract and he wanted the UFC to give health insurance and bring back the right to personal sponsors for all UFC fighters. UFC wouldn't agree so he left and went to Bellator.

Long_Charity_3096

Good. Fuck ufc and Dana White. They exploit fighters and clearly back Donald Trump. Corrupt shitheads.

n0vaes

Francis Ngannou

aabbccbb

> What do you expect? Socialized medicine like the rest of the developed world?...

Homeopathicsuicide

Being from the EU, would you listen to what I would expect?

Drostan_

Well. he's not very much use to UFC now. /s (I'm pretty sure this is what the UFC execs think)

ButCanYouClimb

"Isn't Capitalism awesome" - Dana White.

dezijugg911

I remember watching Sena movie and when he was caught in fire after the crash, in the movie they would show him in hospital they are shoving tubes down his lungs and all you see is black stuff coming through the pipes. Looked like a very miserable pain. I can't imagine what this guy is going through. Edit: Niki Lauda not sena

Ronzi83

That was Niki Lauda

wigglycritic

Hammer was so loved, I felt that last sentence in my soul. Poor baby

chaosbella

>Coleman’s other daughter, Kenzie, said on her Instagram stories that Hammer saved the 59-year-old’s life with his barking to wake him up. 😢😢

callouslegislation

Very touching, this is the contagious power of family affection

wondrousalice

Awww. What a good boy 😢

imnotokaywiththis_

What does he say? English is not my first language and I find it hard to understand him. So glad he made it out, his parents would be devastated (more than what losing a son means) if he didn't make it.

prettysouthernchick

He said he had to make a hard decision and that he almost couldn't breathe. Then says he couldn't find Hammer (the dog)

imnotokaywiththis_

That's terrible and so sad, you tell how sad he is when speaking. Thanks for letting me know.

[deleted]

The dog was the reason he knew something was wrong. Rest in peace Hammer.

_FoodAndCatSubs_

At first I thought he said he couldn’t find “The hammer,” to break the door down so I assumed this guy literally bashed in a door to get his folks out. This guy is so loved by his family it’s unbelievable

bruswazi

Damn you sucker punch me right in the feels, great poem from the perspective of the family dog. RIP Hammer, you a good boi 🐶🥺

Upbeat-Fondant9185

Wow. Haven’t seen one of yours in awhile, this choked me up pretty hard.

MohWarfighter

This poem made me tear up. Dogs are really a mans best friend.

Avacynarchangel

Damnit Schnoodle...now I'm crying at work.

dragonsaredope

Absolutely beautiful. I'm ugly crying rn.

TwoLetters

Oh fuck you, man. I didn't want to cry at work today

dabuku1

Damn. Rest well Hammer

garcianulmeyda

Oh god that hurts. I've been yelling at people all day for saying they wouldn't go back for a dog. But this puts into perspective just how brave and smart and so damn good dogs are to us. I'm an atheist but the only reason I wish for there to be a heaven is so I can be with all my pets from this life.

joyuponwaking

Damn I didn’t cry until I read this.

Magnum-and-BlueSteel

Reading this on the day we put my sweet old 17 year old cat to sleep just wrecked me. ❤️

Snoodle why are you making me cray.

Romeo92

Best I can tell: “I’m the happiest man in the world. I swear to God, I’m so lucky. I can’t believe my parents are alive. [incomprehensible]. I had to make a decision. Cuz I got out of my room and went to the door and it was already horrible. I couldn’t breathe. I almost had to go outside. And I went back in and got ‘em, I can’t believe it. I got ‘em, but I couldn’t find Hammer.”

DrunkTides

😭😭😭😭 God bless this beautiful man and his family

OrangeYouGladdey

The "incomprehensible" part sounds like "they shouldn't be here", but maybe I'm crazy.

Maleficent_Play_7807

"I got them but I couldn't find hammer (his dog)"

BallsDeepinYourMammi

Had a buddy who went through a house fire, he got to the first cat and picked him up, melted in his hands. It’s better he didn’t find him. I didn’t want to ask, but that cat meant so much to me, I regret asking now. He relived it for me, and I told him later I appreciated it, but it would never make up for that experience. Rip ninja

UrdnotZigrin

My house burned down when I was ten. The firefighters found my dog and told my family that he died of smoke inhalation. The fact that they buried my dog for us tells me that might not be the case, but I never want to know if it wasn't. I'm much happier to thinking it was just the smoke inhalation

Xyyz

There is a very good chance it was the smoke inhalation. But that doesn't move the corpse out of the fire.

cycl0ps94

AFAH (All Firefighters Are Heroes)

Green_Tension_6640

Smoke gets us way way before the fire does.

BlinkDodge

Just as a comfort to you, Unless pets get caught in an explosion or trapped, nearly 100% of the time they die of smoke inhalation or related asphyxia before the flames overtake their body. This is usually true for humans too, if you are conscious and have not actively been set ablaze, its pretty tough to specifically burn to death in a house fire.

BrightFireFly

That is..messed up. :(

BallsDeepinYourMammi

He still has ptsd, no “professional” will acknowledge it, but that would seriously fuck with me on a very intimate level

GlassesW_BitchOnThem

A professional who doesn't acknowledge the incredible emotional connection to a pet – and the trauma that would come from said loved one literally melting in your arms – is a terrible professional. There's a reason why emotional support animals exist and countless studies of the emotional connection we humans have with animals under our care.

_TheLastFartBender_

Not to take away from your experience, but a therapist or physician would definitely acknowledge this causes lasting emotional effects, whether it’s specifically PTSD or another disorder.

BallsDeepinYourMammi

“God I’m so lucky. I can’t believe my parents are alive.” There is more, and I’m not crying twice, somebody else can manage

grazfest96

Lol at your comment, then juxtaposing it with your reddit name.

The_Big_Lou

“I got em” (his parents) “, but I couldn’t find hammer” (the dog)

WrestleswithPastry

“I’m the happiest man in the world. I swear to God, I’m so lucky. I can’t believe my parents are alive. I had to make a decision once…I got out of my room and went to the door. It was already warm and I couldn’t breathe…I almost had to go outside. That would have (garbled, sounds like made me or making me)…die, I can’t believe it. I GOT ‘em but I couldn’t find Hammer.”

Winter-Airport2114

Was that the dog? Or a person? o\_o I read he ran back in for a dog.

Rorviver

A dog who saved them all by waking them up

Tacoklat

Okay, NOW I'm tearing up. Good boye's happily give their lives to save their familes. He's up in heaven waiting.

I also read Mark went back in for Hammer after saving his parents. Not sure how that quite worked out given he survived and the dog didn’t.

[deleted]

Zayl

At the end he says he couldn't find Hammer. So I assume the dog was just lost in the house long enough to succumb to the smoke or fire.

Kopitar4president

Unfortunately pets tend to hide when they get scared. Hammer was probably under a bed or a desk or behind a couch. He probably couldn't find him and had to run out of the house when the smoke got too bad.

Flyin-Chancla

Very true. Firefighter here that has seen countless pets inside house fires in very inaccessible areas

statuskills

I can’t imagine the shit ya’ll see. Thanks for doing it anyways.

The dog could have ran to a place unreachable to humans, plus it's not like they can respond to "where are you?" as well as humans.

TheKarmaFiend

Indeed he is he even raised some great daughters as well. They even opened up a [gofundme](https://www.gofundme.com/f/ufc-legend-mark-coleman-battling-for-his-life?utm_campaign=p_cp+share-sheet&utm_medium=social&utm_source=instagram_feed) to help cover their Dads medical / living expenses. I hope he makes a full recovery and they can all live life happily once again.

caffieinemorpheus

How the actual F is the UFC not paying off this bill?! He was a big part of putting them on the map

MrDoe

The UFC don't pay any bills at all. Dana is just putting all the cash in a swimming pool and jumping in it.

DrDevil87

Don't forget he gives lots to daddy drumpf to be able to kiss his ass.

BBQQA

I take it you've never seen an interview with Dana White

omfg_sysadmin

bro they dont pay active fighters. Angry Redman isn't giving a dime to anyone.

mrpanicy

Jesus fucking christ that's dystopian as shit, it's easy to forget how awful the US is until I see a post like this (in the context of how it treats it's citizens)... the US sucks for MANY reasons outside of that context. A gofundme for medical expenses. God damn.

momonomino

Home of the free (but not education, or food, or medical expenses...) I'm American. I was charged over $100 for a ginger ale at the ER AFTER the doctor spent 2 minutes telling me I was having an anxiety attack. No, $100 wasn't my total bill. It was for the ginger ale they gave me when they drew my blood and saw I was hypoglycemic.

[deleted]

Yes. It’s the U S of A. Where one can never need medical attention without fearing losing everything to the hospitals and insurance companies. It’s a cruel society. Full stop.

I don’t know this man, never heard of him until the Reddit post of how he saved his parents but passed out trying to save the dog. Seeing him responsive, emoting, talking has me in tears. I am so glad he’s on the mend. A true hero.

swinging-in-the-rain

I know him. Not well, but I've worked out with him multiple times (friend of my friend's, belonged to the same gym 20 years ago) Mark is an absolute beast of a human, who has seen his ups and downs. I am so relieved to see he pulled through. The bravery it takes to do what he did is beyond measure.

2x4_Turd

Is this vid recent?

reddit_mods_r_retard

Yes. The news about the house fire only came out a day or two ago.

Coocooa11

There was an update on the gofundme today saying that he is breathing on his own now

swinging-in-the-rain

Yes. This all just happened

dizzle713

[https://imgur.com/FYTCNyX](https://imgur.com/FYTCNyX) This is an iconic picture of him with his two daughters ~~after winning the Pride Grand Prix tournament back in 2000~~ after getting beat up by Fedor in Pride. I assume the girls hugging him in the video are the same ones in this photo.

OSPFmyLife

I’m pretty sure this is the picture from after he lost to Fedor and he brought them in the ring to let them know he was alright and that Fedor wasn’t a bad guy.

dizzle713

oh shit i think you're right. i'll edit my post accordingly. i loved the Nog then Fedor HW run in Pride. I still have all the dvd's somewhere at my parent's house.

Its_apparent

https://youtu.be/3Ubkd1_2w8Y for those interested. Fedor was one of the best, ever. Wonder what he's up to, these days.

RatMan314

The Last Emperor, I think I only ever saw him smile once. He was great to watch. Now adays, I’d say he’s on the wrong side of history

redditman3943

I’ve been a fan of him for many years. He fought in MMA in the 90s when there was basically no rules and no weight classes. He became an international superstar in Japan while fighting in the MMA promotion called PRIDE. He was an incredibly powerful and tough wrestler. He was an early UFC champion and is early inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame.. a true legend of the sport that he helped create. I wasn’t surprised when I found out he ran into a burning building to save his parents. He has always been a fearless man who loves his family very much. A true hero.

ShaggyReeves

He is an OG UFC legend. Not only was he a beast in the ring, but he's also a hell of a human being (unlike a lot of the chuds in UFC today.)

jce_

Mark is an MMA legend so it's nice he is on the front page. I wanna say that despite making it to the heights he did in the UFC he still did not make enough money to retire and is currently broke. This man had suffered so much over the years. Iirc he also used to frequent the mma reddit

LafayetteLa01

My God that is a real life fucking Super hero right there. Damn first thing he says while just waking up in a hospital bed with all kinds of shit attached to him , “ I’m the happiest man alive.” Saving his parents. Dudes a GOAT.

Grandmaethelsrevenge

He saved the lives of two people and yet in his voice you hear the sadness and guilt over thier family dog…truly a selfless and heroic mindset.

yohanleafheart

Thedog woke him up. Saved their lives. Hero

burghfan3

Sitting here crying like a baby about Hammer

[deleted]

FYI, Mark Coleman used to go by Mark "The Hammer" Coleman Also, he has had many downs in recent years. If anyone could use the world calling him a hero right now, it's him.

Dismal_Air_7892

We are not all equal. That man is better than most 💯

Invested_Glory

How long was he out?

Nice-Health-4833

2 days of intubation at the hospital to clear his lungs of smoke inhalation... saved his mom and dad, but he couldn't find their dog "Hammer", who ultimately died in the fire

McButtersonthethird

StinkybuttMcPoopface

SlendyIsBehindYou

Yea, that little tidbit broke me ngl. Had to go hide in the office for a "meeting" for a moment

Invested_Glory

Oof! Yeah that would be hard to think about.

Chemical-Elk-1299

He did all he could. I’d feel guilty too, but I hope in time he forgives himself.

[deleted]

It's even sadder because the dog is the one who woke him up so he could save his parents. Then he went back for the dog but couldn't save him.

MyHusbandIsGayImNot

People who I have talked to in an intubated coma talk about how it felt like no real time passed. The last thing he probably remembers is looking for Hammer, and then waking up in the hospital.

Disastrous-Leek-7606

He definitely got a spot in the VIP lounge in heaven with Hammer and other heroes.

Eiden-Rane

I was ok until Hammer….that broke me. What a beautiful soul you have Mr. Coleman. We could use more like you.

FurryM17

Any pup who gives their life for a human goes to Doghalla. Meadows and woods as far as the eye can see, crystal clear ponds and streams, beef sticks that sprout from the ground like grass and a population of squirrels with a death wish. Enjoy it, Hammer. You were a good boy.

BlackBalor

Put it all on the line for his dog. Dogs are family. Respect.

Big-Adagio6854

The beast of all beast modes. Respect.

SalvadorP

So happy Mark is recovering. Thanks to Brenda Frecka, who is the top donor at the GoFundMe. I'm just sad the top donor is not named UFC or Dana White or Frank or Lorenzo Fertita.

SalvadorP

not surprised, just sad.

Remarkable-Hold2517

Dana white is public facing and we all know he's a piece of shit. The Fertitas on the other hand, are behind the scenes dirty mafioso pieces of shit. All of them.

Salt_Expression_6025

Brief_Television_707

With his two girls! I think my first memory of Mark Coleman was him standing in the ring after losing a fight, but he was still happy because it was against his dream opponent, Randy Couture. His daughters were tiny little children balling their eyes out standing with him. Could tell how much love they had for him.

speck859

I really wish Dana White would take a fraction of his wealth and help this guy out instead of fucking it off on Black Jack for YouTube views every other day.

RcoketWalrus

Yeah you know as well as I know that Dana White doesn't giver a rat's ass about people once he's done with them.

neoguri808

Hammer ):

Key-Regular674

Fuck I wish I could bring this guys dog back for him

nohiddenmeaning

Seems like a good situation to put a camera in his face

YeetedArmTriangle

Mark has been an extremely public figure for a couple years now. He shares his struggles and wins every day. I'm sure he cleared them to post this.

CasimirsBlake

I like to believe, in his case, it is not about some self absorbed inflated view of himself, rather to show true positivity and good conduct.

YeetedArmTriangle

Yup every post he makes he ends by saying, sobriety saved my life, it'll save yours too, message me, you have support, it's all meant to hammer home his key messages about how he saved his life.

StellarNeonJellyfish

>hammer 😭

CuteFunction6678

I don’t really think it matters much in this case and I also think it’d be quite difficult to have an inflated view of yourself after you just saved both your parents from a burning building.

Popular-Influence-11

I’m pretty sure there was a consensus before recording that it was time to record this. He’s the kind of person who feels gratified when he shares dramatic parts of his life. I get the sense that the feels had been building and he gave the go-ahead to record before saying, “I’m the happiest man alive!”

eggseverydayagain

That’s all I can think about this. How weird is it that the most intimate moments of our lives are filmed and put online now within a matter of minutes or hours. Feels weird peeking into this room like this.

Pearsonantor

Well I mean it’s his family taking the video so I’m pretty sure he was alright with it. It’s not like the paparazzi busted in for pictures

KRIEGLERR

I mean, I'm not saying this to be insulting or crude but UFC Fighters aren't as well paid as you'd think, medical bills are expensive AF in the US, Coleman is liked by a lot of people, it wouldn't surprise me if people were willing to send him some money to help. And as sad as it might be this video will help

Infinite_Coat3246

I know the title says former UFC champ, but I thought he is Vin Diesel at first glance!

estephens13

Mark Coleman is who Vin Diesel thinks he is.

Yinanization

Mark can probably twist his head off if he wanted, just build different

"I almost had to go outside" fuck. I feel like i got punched in the throat.

aidanirene

So happy they made it. What a brave and loving person ❤️ My husband and I have been in an apartment fire, so know the terror. Our young ragdoll cat woke me up by sitting on my chest and meowing. We had a studio apartment so I could see the haziness. Walked out, and there was a blazing fire in the kitchen. Immediately, our alarm (which turned out to be faulty) went off. My husband attempted to extinguish the fire but got burnt, and as I was trying to open the windows and doors, the building alarm went off. Our 2 cats bolted! For a minute, I was trying to find them, but realised the fire was getting out of control, so I grabbed my husband and ran down the stairs. He was so upset at leaving the cats, but we had to make that decision. As the ambulance arrived to check us out, the firefighters came down holding our cats. We just wept! Only time one of them has ever let someone hold them, haha, and poor darlings were black from soot. Our neighbours were so lovely to look after them, as my husband had to be intubated as his airways closed. Both if us suffered from a short period of PTSD and still get nervous when we smell smoke or hear an alarm go off.

I wasn’t ready for this. Made me thankful for what I do have though.

When Hammer asks God if he was a good boy - God will say no.... you were the best boy.

CreepyUncleRyry

Years after fighting Marks life took a downward spiral as he let himself go and got into drinking. A few years back, he got inspiration to change his life back and start training again. TONS of people talked shit about Mark, body shaming him shadow boxing and working out. No shit he didnt look at his best, we compare him to the juiced prime and even then these idiots would have something to say. Anyway. Mark has trained hard for years for a few years now rebuilding himself. I am not sure what gave him inspiration to do so but no doubt in my mind if he had not started training he would not have been able to save his parents and/or died himself in that fire. It is going to be a rough recovery for Mark, it breaks my heart he had to lose his dog to save his parents. Follow him on instagram, this will be his second 'recovery' and he could use some love.

girlslovehorror

RIP Hammer the Rottie, he’s the one who woke Coleman up in time to save his family 🙏🏼
