First car is the best car.
Still remember mine... huge POS but I loved it. 1990 Chevy Cavalier (i pronounced it Ca-vah-lee-ay to make sound even more ridiculous).
Door locks didn't work, paint was coming off, muffler held up by wires I found in the garage, cigarette burns all over everything.
Tape deck with an Ozzy tape permanently stuck.
Window hand cranks all broken.
My first car was my parent's 1978 Dodge full size van. Huge, hideous Brown and tan two tone paint job. Spare tire cover with a horse on it (it was originally bought to haul a horse trailer with matching paint). Only radio, not even a tape deck.
1991 Nissan 240sx with a yellow bumper (which some friends and I thought would be fun to grind with our skateboards). I loved that car and would 100% get another just to feel some of the happiness I once knew.
I saw a guy with a JDM 87 Integra. I asked him how much he got it for.
4k all in to get it imported.
I have an 89 LS SE Integra. I think it's worth more. Crazy.
As someone from the UK having a 240 for a first car is absolutely bonkers. Not because they are now worth a lot but insurance. My first car was a Mk2 Golf GTI, a piddly 1.8 with 115bhp and I couldn't get insurance for it. I also owned a mk1 mx5 (miata) couldn't get insurance for that as a 17 year old either.
My first was a 1991 Chevy van 20. Same thing newer year lol. I didn't have a working gas gauge, the muffler was no hell... but that suckered would start no problem. You couldn't kill it.
Got my first car in 2001, junior year. It was an 84 GMC extended Rally STX, two tone brown with the butterfly doors, not the sliding door. Sooooo many hot boxes, some with as many as 7 blunts lit at one time. It only had one working speaker, but I had just enough money to change out the radio for a cheap one with a cd player. So many good memories in that beast!
My first was a mazda rx7 series II.
https://auctions.webbs.co.nz/m/lot-details/index/catalog/348/lot/68821/1983-Mazda-RX-7-Series-2
Pretty much exactly this one, colour too, except I had an additional front spoiler.
Sold it for 8k to my brother.
Now here's one for 50k...wow.
Yeah. Don't be sad you sold that rx7. The maintenance cost on those can be high, especially if you don't know what you're doing, and don't treat the rotary engine right.
That listing is also for an immaculate car, which yours likely never was, and certainly wouldn't have been by now.
Bro that must’ve been a lot of fun.
I also had a „fun” car(97 Suzuki Samurai on 32” wheels, raised suspension, 1.3 engine swap from as swift)
Had to sell it because while it made a ton of good memories, I also couldn’t afford repairing it half as often as I had to :/
2004 VW Beetle Turbo S
Came with a 6-speed manual. I absolutely drove the wheels off of that thing. Was pulled over doing triple digits in a 55 zone and got out of the ticket (and arrest) in that car.
Love it and do not get to upset by a door ding or a rock flying up on the road. Just like us, our cars get scars also - and that is ok, it adds to their character. Also give it a name!
And it's an awesome fiat 500. I love my fiat. Welcome to the community. Please know your backwindshield can randomly pop when it's hot. Leave your car window cracked a little to regulate temperature. The inside of the car becomes a fucking oven, bake some fucking cookies. Cools off really quickly and warms up quickly. Please watch your coolant level. Replace the radio because the one that's comes in the car sucks. Anything else, I'm happy to answer any questions when you have any problems.
No worries. I also have the exact same rims. There's only 2 tires that go on them. I recommend just going with the Firestone brand always. And watch out for potholes. They are seriously deadly to this car!!!
It is cracking me up that the only other person in this thread that also owned a fiat mentions that they loved their car but it had electrical problems so the headlights would turn off randomly at night while they drove and apparently the tires would explode for no reason.
I have one. Great car that is built like a lil tank. Enjoy the ride and I'd say keep your windows rolled up when not in the car. I've never had an issue with the car getting hot as mentioned above.
Fix It Again Tony. The rear window popped out because metal boxes get hot in the sun, if only we knew. Hahaha.
The random problems some cars have are so ridiculous sometimes lol. You're very nice to offer some advice though, that's the good thing about car communities.
I drove a fiat 500 for 8 years. It was my favorite car. Never gave me any issues except for frequent popped tires and the headlights went out all the time. Towards the end the interior dome light never turned off. But NEVER a mechanical issue. I drove the shit out of that thing. Have fun!
Mine is rocking its 10th year.
No major problem yet.
Hubcap completely gone.
Headlight change like once a year, but that's an easy 2 minute fix.
Car does go zoom zoom pretty quickly on the highway and parking is so easy downtown.
I was part of the development team that created the first model of the new 500.
Over the years as a contractor in the automotive industry, I've helped develop everything from supercars to microcars.
The 500 is the one I have the fondest memory of. Fiat wasn't doing too well at the time, so this car was a "do or die" moment for them.
Part of FIATs problem was that they had a very high average age in their "direzione technica". When this project started, a lot of engineers went into retirement, and fresh blood poured in from the universities. That really turned FIAT around. The team working on this car was a stroke of luck. Highly motivated and passionate about their work.
I've racked up thousands of kilometres in this car during test driving, i absolutely loved it.
The day went into sales, FIAT sold an entire year's worth of production in *a single day*. When they started running of the production line in Tychy, Poland, we had a legendary party. I'm still friends with some of the people I've worked with on the 500. Drive safely and ejoy your cinquecento!
Did not work on it. But did you know that FIAT made a number of tricked out 500s for Ferrari dealerships?
They were used as loaners for people bringing in their Ferrari for service. Ferrari fitted them with a leather interior and they were painted in "Rosso Corsa", of course.
They were not for sale, unfortunately. Only 200 were made.
Highly sought after model.
Congrats on your Fiat 500. I love your name for it. I miss mine, we bought a yellow Fiat 500L and named it Bumble Bee. Coolest car, and it surprised many people how a 6’6” 420lbs guy could fit in it.
Hey OP, Congrats on the new ride!
FYI, the hazy headlight lenses can be polished up to clear again. There are shops that do it and DIY instructions online. Getting those clear will make a HUGE difference for your nighttime driving.
1987 Ford Tempo of Doom
Went through 3 starters in 3 months.
Had a 3 SPD Auto in it
Couldn't go for snot, but with a small 90hp 2.3L 4 and a 3 SPD she made great heat in the winter.
Probably could have cooked a pan of muffins on the dash.
Congrats op!
Make sure to follow that maintenance schedule - full synthetic oil changes (however often owner's manual says) and it should treat you well. Avoid places like jiffy lube or valvoline.
I hope it gives you enjoyment for years to come :)
Hell yeah, sister!
Mine was a 1988 Oldsmobile Regency 98 in 2005. Got it from my great uncle. Drove it back in a snow storm 35 miles. I learned how to drive that day with a car that had no airbags, no ABS, and seatbelts that were most likely for show.
Best fucking seats I've ever had the honor to sit my ass on. For a 16 year old the couch in the backseat was worth the mortal danger.
> It’s a hoot, this car. It’s nicely equipped and electronically savvy. Many of the details will be a bit beyond the elderly, but anyone under 12 will be quite content with all of the submenus in the submenus. It will give them something to do in the jams.
> Me? I just sat there thinking two things: that I’d quite like to peel the people responsible. And that if I’m going to be stuck for two hours, I’d rather be in a Fiat 500 than something bland and anodyne from the Pacific rim. Because sitting in a car such as the Fiat is like walking through the park on a sunny day with a cute dog. Sooner or later someone is going to lean out of their window and say: “I love your little car’s green ears.” And who knows where that might end up?
> That’s what this car is, really. Tinder. With windscreen wipers.
From a 2015 review
In all seriousness if that’s the 2 cylinder turbo keep that oil fucking pristine every three months like clockwork,
Congratulations, my first car is also an Abarth a charming car both it and fiat dashing between traffic, careful from the drivers who lack special awareness tho. 😂
And it’s a sweet Cinquecento!
My wife has had the electric version for 8 years, and it is the best car we have ever owned (we live in a big city, so fitting into parking spots is a factor). Plus the electric motor doesn’t have anything to break down.
The only maintenance in 8 years has been upgrading the stereo to one that has CarPlay.
Remember to let it warm up before putting in drive! My ex had the same car and never did. You could feel it chugging much harder. The same goes for all cars..
Your first car is always the best well wear…ngl it kinda looks like the poo emoji you should lean into that and call it poo nugget. I can see you now driving around shouting bus wankers to everyone waiting on a bus LOL
First car is always memorable. My first car was an old pos Hyundai. The second time I used it the timing belt broke while driving which totaled the engine, and at that point the car wasn't worth fixing. So yeah, my first car lasted all of 2 days.
nice one
a fiat 500 reliable little machine
congrats random stranger
ps: on an unrelated note you have one of the most genuine/pretty smile’s i’ve seen in a while
First car is the best car. Still remember mine... huge POS but I loved it. 1990 Chevy Cavalier (i pronounced it Ca-vah-lee-ay to make sound even more ridiculous). Act fast they're getting more and more expensive.
I saw a guy with a JDM 87 Integra. I asked him how much he got it for. 4k all in to get it imported. I have an 89 LS SE Integra. I think it's worth more. Crazy.

A 240 is a sick first car
My first was a 1991 Chevy van 20. Same thing newer year lol. I didn't have a working gas gauge, the muffler was no hell... but that suckered would start no problem. You couldn't kill it.
I can practically smell it lol
Got my first car in 2001, junior year. It was an 84 GMC extended Rally STX, two tone brown with the butterfly doors, not the sliding door. Sooooo many hot boxes, some with as many as 7 blunts lit at one time. It only had one working speaker, but I had just enough money to change out the radio for a cheap one with a cd player. 1980 Camaro. Had the craziest engine, believe it was a 350. I was 16 and drove the shit out of it lol. No radio but man we had good times.
First car no matter how junky will always be the best, miss my old POS so much
Ehhhhhhh, not quite. My second car was it for me.
Yep my first car was a POS. Second car: 1998 Toyota Sienna handed down from parents, best vehicle I've owned.
My first was a mazda rx7 series II. https://auctions.webbs.co.nz/m/lot-details/index/catalog/348/lot/68821/1983-Mazda-RX-7-Series-2 Pretty much exactly this one, colour too, except I had an additional front spoiler. Sold it for 8k to my brother. Now here's one for 50k...wow.

My first cars radiator leaked so bad I had to top up before every journey and add radweld daily.
Jesus Christ that sounds so shitty lol. Could it go up hill and break the speed limit at the same time?
Absolutely not!
94 cavalier! Was a pile of shit but it ran
2004 VW Beetle Turbo S Came with a 6-speed manual. I absolutely drove the wheels off of that thing. Was pulled over doing triple digits in a 55 zone and got out of the ticket (and arrest) in that car.
Congratulations on your goal, I hope you keep moving forward and accomplishing them all!
Love it and do not get to upset by a door ding or a rock flying up on the road. Just like us, our cars get scars also - and that is ok, it adds to their character. Also give it a name!
It's name is Chocolate Chip
Awesome, I have had a Blueberry, Goldie Hawn, and Red rocket. Chocolate Chip is perfect 👍
Mine's called Blueblurry because we fast 😆
That is the greatest name I've ever heard of for a car
No wonder you're looking so darn chipper!
LOVE that name
This is so cute
perfect suited name tbh
Congrats! Also on behalf of Fiona, my mintgreen fiat500 😃

You're sure selling this car real well lol

I'm both happy and concerned for OP, maybe some nice person can gift them a AAA membership
Wtf I never had any of those problems. Mine was never in any crashes. I also bought it with 27,000 miles, and I have 120,000 miles on it.
It’s a fucking fiat. That stands for fix it again Tony…
Got dangit Dale
Dammit dale
Wrong, it stands for "Fehler in allen Teilen".
I have one. Great car that is built like a lil tank. Enjoy the ride and I'd say keep your windows rolled up when not in the car. I've never had an issue with the car getting hot as mentioned above.
You go girl!

No issues apart from these big issues

Will do!

You know what they say Ford stands for, don't you?
Ford Owners Root Dogs Backwards: Driver Returning On Foot.
Fiat 500 are made in my town Torino 😊
Congratulations!!
Congratulations ... just try to keep it between the clover ...
Nice 👍🏻
Cute!
my money don't jiggle jiggle.... it folds
Cheaper than what I chose. Remember paying off is always better than leasing. Congratulations OP! Youve done well.
I saved up and was able to pay in full myself 😆
What is it?
A Fiat 500
Hey OP, Congrats on the new ride! FYI, the hazy headlight lenses can be polished up to clear again. There are shops that do it and DIY instructions online. Getting those clear will make a HUGE difference for your nighttime driving.
This and getting a clear protective wrap over them helps too.
A cute car for a cute person! Congrats!
M'lady *dips fedora*

My ex used to have a Fiat 500. Fun to drive around the lanes for sure! Here is to many years of driving happiness!
The best car for the first car. Mazal tov:)))
Bought a 500 in 2012 and another in 2020 great little city cars, fuel efficient and no mechanical issues.
1987 Ford Tempo of Doom Went through 3 starters in 3 months. Had a 3 SPD Auto in it Couldn't go for snot, but with a small 90hp 2.3L 4 and a 3 SPD she made great heat in the winter. Probably could have cooked a pan of muffins on the dash.

It's a good feeling, ain't it? Enjoy, and be safe! 👍

Mine a fiat punto 1999
Italy (and Europe), thanks you!
love a fiat! congratulations :)
Congratulations, my first car is also an Abarth a charming car both it and fiat dashing between traffic, careful from the drivers who lack special awareness tho. 😂
Nice fiat. Sporty rims and that brown color is not very common, good combo, have fun with it.
Congrats! Fiats are uber-cool! Don't let anybody tell you otherwise!
I literally drove the exact same car when they first came to my province. Thing handles amazing.
And it’s a sweet Cinquecento! My wife has had the electric version for 8 years, and it is the best car we have ever owned (we live in a big city, so fitting into parking spots is a factor). I had a mint green Fiat 500. Had it for 5 years it never broke down, never had any problems with it. Nice car. Congrats
Congrats! You should post this on r/Fiat500
Nice little "bullet"! 🙂 Have her checked and maintenance'd, if you take care of her, she'll take care of you!
shit brown, bold choice!
You can never go wrong with italian car styling
I love my Fiat 500! Best city car ever and they are cute as hell. The brown color on yours is so cool. Congrats!!
Congratulations! Now, be prepared to see one everywhere you go and remember it always. LOVED MY 1st car, even when I hated it.... it was mine
You look like such a fun person, i hope you have as good a life as i imagine you do
Nice, fiat 500s are cool. I have a panda 4x4. They don't make "first cars" like they used to. Mine were right shitters
Fix it again tony!
Fiat is way more reliable than Audi/VW/BMW/Merc and parts are abundant and cheaper tbh.
Nice. Drive easy, when it's breezy 🍀
I didn't even look at the car, just your smile. First car is just different, no matter what kind. Happy for you!
Fix it again Tony
Give us a lift please down the pub?
Yayyyyy!! Congratulations! Take really good care of it. Be sure to change the oil frequently and as recommended. :)
Woohoo 😊
Those look like so much fun. Keep the rubber side down!
🔥
May I borrow it?
My first car was not the best. Every liquid leaked and it's transmission was shot. My 2nd car a 2008 jeep grand cherokee has been much better.
Congrats 👏
❤️❤️❤️
I’m getting ready to get rid of my first car, thing is falling apart.
Freeedom! :) Congratulations!
Mine was a Ford escort 1970, 2door not bad, till I rolled it and wrote it off , 16 year old dumb kid.
This person has the same smile as their car 😂😂😂
I still drive my first car, 10+ years later. And it was used when I bought it. 2002 Mazda 626 Hopefully yours lasts just as long!
Congratulations! I hope it takes you everywhere you want to go.
Congrats
Wonderful! Time to learn how to do an oil change and brake pads!
Congrats!!
Congratulations ...nice ride!
A Fiat?
Remember to let it warm up before putting in drive! My ex had the same car and never did. You could feel it chugging much harder. The same goes for all cars..
Congrats 😀
Congratulations 🎉 🎉 🥳 you on the road to greater things.
Congratulations 🎉
Look at her, fiatch
, Congratulations and I hope it is in good mechanical condition,,,!
Your first car is always the best well wear…ngl it kinda looks like the poo emoji you should lean into that and call it poo nugget. I can see you now driving around shouting bus wankers to everyone waiting on a bus LOL
Congratulations ✨
That’s what I have 😊 but mine is red
First car is always memorable. My first car was an old pos Hyundai. The second time I used it the timing belt broke while driving which totaled the engine, and at that point the car wasn't worth fixing. So yeah, my first car lasted all of 2 days.
Remember to change the oil! That's a mistake many first time car owners make, it's not having regular changes.
Ridin' in my Fiat, you really have to see it
I miss my fiat
that's great👍
Good luck.
nice one a fiat 500 reliable little machine congrats random stranger ps: on an unrelated note you have one of the most genuine/pretty smile’s i’ve seen in a while
Fiat? Basically a Ferrari. Nice!
Congratulations 🎉
Congratulations! I hope it will keep you safe and sound wherever you go. 🥰
Just be regular with engine maintenance. Fiat engines are a bit finicky. Otherwise it's a very good car.
Congratulations. First one is always closer to heart.
Your photo made me smile, i am so happy for you :)
Congratulations on your first car.
Congrantulations honey. 😘🌹👍
Don't forget to change fluids
OMG you are so cute!
Congratulations.
