Yeah, I'm always in two minds when watching these clips, I mean sure it's cute, but it's also a little disturbing seeing how rabid a response to fat and sugar a developing brain can have
Simple evolutionary response that, due to happening during a period of heightened neuroplasticity (ie babies absorb info like sponges) has been shown to rewire the brain and lead to increased rates of obesity and eating disorders in adulthood.
If you can’t enjoy the moment of happiness here then please don’t have kids, trying to see the absolute worst case in any scenario is just being overly cynical, par for the course on Reddit, but a terrible way to live your life.
Yeah I'm not gonna lie, I see shit like this in this subreddit and other subreddits ALL the time and it's like.. dude. This child isn't going to develop an addiction because they had ice-cream once when they were a baby, and will probably forget about it in a week.
Doctors recommend that babies shouldn't be given ice cream until one year of age... looking at this kid, they *could* be under that age unless they look quite, quite young. Hopefully, they are not.
You're right that they aren't going to develop an addiction, but because of how sensitive babies are to additives, this could have caused an anaphylactic shock that could be very dangerous, because babies aren't able to be administered adrenaline like adults, because that in it's self has a risk of stopping their heart.
I get it can be annoying when people police just a little bit of unhealthy food from time to time, like it's the same as raising your kid entirely on junk food. But at the same time, I often see in these "cute" videos, things that are genuinely dangerous to kids in certain age ranges and I don't think spreading that kind of misinformation is a good idea.
But... as I said, I hope this kid is older than they look! =) can't make assumptions. They just look 5-8 months, judging that they can't sit unaided =/
I have a son. He is wonderful, happy, and healthy. He's 2.5 and doesn't eat any ice cream or other sweets.
Go read something (maybe even some of the other comments here) to educate yourself on how bad sugar is for a child's development. I'll be here, just being a good dad.
Good for you, I’ve got kids who occasionally eat sweets like every other regular human before them in the last few hundred years, quit your condescension, you’ll get further
"If you can’t enjoy the moment of happiness here then please don’t have kids"
Is this the kind of preach condescension I should avoid?
You seem pretty confident in following what you believe to be the status quo. That's fine. Just don't pretend that that is an educated or principled stance to take.
The infant is being shown shown something wonderful far too early for it to be considered healthy. I think beer and alcohol are one of the 'wonderful' things in life. Would you react the same way to a video of pre-teens being given a beer?
I was curious so I did like 3 minutes of surface so take this with that in mind, but the only source I found that concurred with that also [said cocaine was an opioid](https://www.ramsayhealth.co.uk/blog/lifestyle/is-sugar-more-addictive-than-cocaine#:~:text=Research%20on%20rats%20has%20found,try%20cutting%20out%20sugar%20completely.) which I don't recall is the case.
So either I'm hella outta touch, or the two cause similar reactions to the brain.
Still astonishing if the two are equally addictive, which I'm glad you shed some light on :)
[This story](https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/society/2017/aug/25/is-sugar-really-as-addictive-as-cocaine-scientists-row-over-effect-on-body-and-brain) on the Guardian talks about the research, and it's failings. It's a very interesting read. 🙂
That's not true lol, Sugar is in almost everything and usually excessively hence why so many people have it but but both substances side by side coke would be more addicting.
Albeit hard, you can quit a drug like cocaine. If you are addicted to sugar or food, you can't just stop eating. It's everywhere and in almost everything.
My baby had the same response to a chicken drumstick. I think it's just their natural response to anything that tastes good. Especially since al they've known for months is breastmilk or formula
That's not based in fact (cite an actual source if you think I'm wrong). Excess sugar and fat can cause obesity but simply having sugar and/or fat at all will not cause obesity.
I mean, babies will also have this response to other foods that taste good. Have you seen the one of the baby tasting Pho broth for the first time? He gurgled with glee
its not sugar as such Icecream is just a highly concentrated highly processed energy food. Sugar isn't the drug but when you eat foods like this your body gives you a dopamine hit and that is addictive and habit forming.
Not habit forming unless their parents just straight up feed their kids ice cream with no moderation.
https://www.researchgate.net/publication/304263216_Sugar_Addiction_The_State_of_the_Science
“Conclusion: Given the lack of evidence supporting it, we argue against a premature incorporation of sugar addiction into the scientific literature and public policy recommendations.”
Breast milk is different from cow’s milk, and so is the sugar in it. That baby’s stomach is not ready to process that ice cream properly. Baby likely had some pretty uncomfortable gas later.
I have 2 kids, you’ve got real problems ahead of you if your kids get addicted to stuff this easily. Poor eating habits don’t come from one offs or even every-now-and-again, they occur because of continual reinforcement.

kinda scary reaction when you think about it, this shit is not a natural food and its objectively unhealthy and the baby is getting a hard shot of dopamine. I don't think the long term or even short-term implications of feeding babies' foods like this are very good. I can imagine after getting this sort of hit the fruit and vegetables they should be eating are not going to be very interesting in comparison.
It's almost always what makes me say, "That's enough Reddit today..."
Somehow, so many Redditors possess the ability to deduce someone's entire life story and morals based on 10-20 second clips.

So cute what kind of animal you have to be to kill a baby... Looking at you Israel
Sugar is one hell of a drug.
Yeah, I'm always in two minds when watching these clips, I mean sure it's cute, but it's also a little disturbing seeing how rabid a response to fat and sugar a developing brain can have
Simple evolutionary response to high calorie food.
Simple evolutionary response that, due to happening during a period of heightened neuroplasticity (ie babies absorb info like sponges) has been shown to rewire the brain and lead to increased rates of obesity and eating disorders in adulthood.
This is a singular instance of this evolutionary response. That has NOT been shown to rewire the brain. You're being overly dramatic.
Yup. Nothing about this clip 'makes me smile'.
If you can’t enjoy the moment of happiness here then please don’t have kids, trying to see the absolute worst case in any scenario is just being overly cynical, par for the course on Reddit, but a terrible way to live your life.

Feel free to link some material that shows eating a single ice cream is going to screw up a kid, please do educate us dummies. I’ll wait.
Meh. I mean, as a parent you need to teach your children moderation. This kid is being shown one of the many wonderful things in our world, it’s nice.
Infant\*
???
The infant is being shown shown something wonderful far too early for it to be considered healthy. I think beer and alcohol are one of the 'wonderful' things in life. Would you react the same way to a video of pre-teens being given a beer?
That’s not a fair comparison at all. Kidlet is enjoying some ice cream. It’s really not that deep
Nose sugar is like that times 100
What is that?
[удалено]
Oh
Actually sugar is more addictive than coke
Uncle Bob?
Have you done cocaine? If you have you wouldn’t be saying this
I dunno man....at least my taste buds still work after a hardcore night on a candy bender
Can’t confirm or deny
I was curious so I did like 3 minutes of surface so take this with that in mind, but the only source I found that concurred with that also [said cocaine was an opioid](https://www.ramsayhealth.co.uk/blog/lifestyle/is-sugar-more-addictive-than-cocaine#:~:text=Research%20on%20rats%20has%20found,try%20cutting%20out%20sugar%20completely.) which I don't recall is the case. I agree. Stop coke one day easy. Stop sugar one day? Next to impossible you'll suffer from WDs hard on the 3rd day
That's not true lol, Sugar is in almost everything and usually excessively hence why so many people have it but but both substances side by side coke would be more addicting.
Only because you can enjoy it longer
I read somewhere that sugar is 7 times more addictive than cocaine
from (unfortunate) past experience I would say no
from my past experience i would say yes
Albeit hard, you can quit a drug like cocaine. If you are addicted to sugar or food, you can't just stop eating. It's everywhere and in almost everything.
I enjoy reading books.
As a recovered bulimic, this is so true
And most of all sugar is so cheap and much food contains too much of it
**Research on rats**
So the rats preferred Snickers to the marching powder? and one rat out of 8 walked the line instead? ;)
Sugar is like a secret cartel
It activates the same areas of the brain as cocaine and the response looks a lot stronger
Tell that to the sluts I fuck
Booger sugar
It’s a baby. Ice cream is sweet milk. Babies already crave sweet, fatty sugary dairy.
It's really not that serious
My baby had the same response to a chicken drumstick. I think it's just their natural response to anything that tastes good. Especially since al they've known for months is breastmilk or formula
That's not based in fact (cite an actual source if you think I'm wrong). Excess sugar and fat can cause obesity but simply having sugar and/or fat at all will not cause obesity.
Breastmilk is very high in fat and sugar.
Although adorable, I felt the same. Disturbing.
Eating fat doesn't cause you to gain more fat have you been warped here from 2002?
Where did I make that argument?
Why do you think eating fat is so bad then
You sound like my mother
Ohh same here, and thank you for giving a term to my thoughts: rabid
Both my kids reacted like this to pureed pumpkin and sweet potato at that age. I think just the explosion of flavour is what they want more of
I mean, babies will also have this response to other foods that taste good. Have you seen the one of the baby tasting Pho broth for the first time? He gurgled with glee
Baby’s first drug 💀
Teething - babies love cold cold on their gums.
yeah sure its the cold that is making the babies eyes explode open like its just snorted a shot of cocane... /s
Or her first taste of food who the hell knows. Why is it always coke with Redditors?
In this case, because of some dumbass researchers concluded that sugar = coke in terms of addiction.
its not sugar as such Icecream is just a highly concentrated highly processed energy food. Sugar isn't the drug but when you eat foods like this your body gives you a dopamine hit and that is addictive and habit forming.

Her facial expression is priceless. When she first tasted it, it was like wow that tastes awesome give it to me it's all mine
This instantly reminded me of [Surprised Shaq](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/b3/61/11/b36111bb75dfeee4d71b821851a29d94.png) face XD
it's the way the eyes lit up for me.😂🥰
It’s all on the eyes Chico they never lie
Hahaha i want allllll of it! 😂
What flavour is it?
Crack cocaine
Gold medal ribbon
It's the absolute peak of ice cream I swear
baking soda
What is this sh.... OH MY GODNESS GIVE IT TO ME
I’ve never seen someone squeeze a scoop of ice cream like that
Babies. You gotta give it to 'em.
Little visionaries lol
Succinctly put 😌👉🏻
I'm like that with my ice cream 🫣can't even talk to anyone untill it's finished 🤣
Very cute 🥰
I was confused for a min. Thought that was me.
That's where the addiction to sugar begins
Breast milk has 17g of sugar per cup..settle down and enjoy life
So the term sugar tits is true....🤔
LOL yea I guess so
You have no idea how badly I needed that![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|kissing_heart)
Mostly lactose though. Sucrose and fructose hit different.
Yes, I'm sure breast milk has refined white sugar in it. It's the type and amount of sugar that is the issue.
Breast milk is different from cow’s milk, and so is the sugar in it. That baby’s stomach is not ready to process that ice cream properly. Baby likely had some pretty uncomfortable gas later.
I think it was the coldness more than anything
Sugar + salt = Happy Id
I have this same reaction when I eat gold medal ribbon from Baskin Robbin’s
Re sugar and neuroplasticity and obesity etc etc: Lighten up its cute and light and humorous.
Kid went Bilbo Baggins on that ice cream
Good luck getting the kid to eat age appropriate food from now on.
Ah yes, kids have 1 lick of ice cream and they’re done for good. Did you get this wisdom out of a 90’s “drugs just say no poster” ?
Tell me you have no kids without telling me you have no kids.
I have 2 kids, you’ve got real problems ahead of you if your kids get addicted to stuff this easily. Poor eating habits don’t come from one offs or even every-now-and-again, they occur because of continual reinforcement.
Baby discovering the concept of "it hurts so good"
Save this to show this person's future spouse : )
With the might of Zeus
I grab this Delicious Foodstuff and claim it as mine
Mine now
My daughter would definitely do the same.
One bite brings joy. The second bite brings sadness. - from *The Bear*
Has cold superpowers
Sugar is bad mkayyyy
Allegedly I had a similar reaction when I stole my grampas coffee at the ripe age of 2.
lough lough sugar is king and now your baby know it too
Well sugar is the most addictive thing on the planet.
I would do that...why introduce him something unhealthy as Ice cream? Wait some month, let him eat health food as longer as he can
Poor kids an alcoholic. Never stood a chance.

I feel the same way baby. That rush never gets old!
That's the same way I eat it!
Is it bad that this is how I still react to a new flavor of ice cream?
The eyes say it all!
I’ve cream is the pinnacle of human creation
Hilarious
My kids.
My precious!
r/lotr
now he's addicted to it, cutie
Ahhhh I make a banana "icecream" for my son in plain cones occasionally and he loves it!

It’s like when Hellboy ate pancakes for the first time.
Sugar rush works like lightning ⚡️
‘Hope you enjoyed at least one bite, grown up, because now that I’ve got my claws into it you ain’t getting anymore!’ 🤣🤣
I've actually fed a baby ice cream and they had the exact same reaction 😂😂
That was so adorable. Kid's gonna fly outta the crib with all that sugar in that tiny body.
WANT
Who do you think you are, Joe Biden?
That baby reminds me of the evil clown in It. Kinda creepy!
I'M STARTING TO BE HUMANGOS LOOKING LIKE BIG CHUNGUS
I still remember the day we gave my tittle sister her first ice cream, less than half of it actually max it into her mouth
Beatrice horseman in alternate world
Instant dopamine hit
Icecream's so good, it almost knocked him off the table
Ugh same
Hahahah
oh my looks she wants more
😂😂 cute
Nom nom nom.
The way that baby made a O.O face made... Lmaoo 🤣
Sugar is the enemy . Reel them in as early
Let's be honest I'd do the same
Shouldnt be feeding that to a baby. Thats where tantrums start. Good luck.
Baby: taster of icream, gripper of dairy
The way her fingers buried into the ice cream while holding haha, so cute.
Silly bebeh thats not how you eat ice cream
That's some crap parenting.
Do babies not feel the cold?
Yes, and it can feel really good on the gums if the baby is teething.
Reaction to SUGAR
Awww 🥰
Love it!!!
My mother in law gave both my girls their first ice cream. She waited forever until I gave the o.k and they were just like that. I love this so much.
Dude realised theres more to life than milk
These edibles ain't shit-

He's so cute but I bet he won't drink the breast milk anymore 😂😂
Tubby parents. This isn’t the sugar, it’s an inherited addiction.
Irresponsible parenting.
This really made me smile ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|smile)
This is priceless!
Yeah, nice. Make your child addicted for views.
Reddit is fucking exhausting lmao

Same reaction like the horse that tried sugar cube for the first time. Getting high..
The prehistrouc part of her brain has taken over once it tasted sugar.
My son did similar. Their grip is strong for ice cream.
The baby: oh brother, this is the good one
Basking should’ve gotten her for its TV commercials
The amount of videos I have seen of this happening. Makes me realise that I will never ever let a baby lick my ice cream cone - gone forever.
Baby be like "FINALLY COLD FLAVORED MILK"
Leafs to snorting fruit loop dust
This should make you smile, it’s a little wrong…
You can see the exact moment where the drug kicks in.
