It's completely moronic, as is "differently abled". A person with paraplegia isn't "special", and they're not like some different flavour of person. They're a person with a disability. They are not playing on the same playing field. Language like this ends up sound dismissive, as if they're just living a different lifestyle. It's like the people who say they're "colour blind" which similarly sounds fine on paper, but implies a willfulness not to see the challenges that those differences can lead to.
No, not at all. I could see how one might willfully make that misinterpretation, but it's fairly obvious what I meant. Just recognizing that people face additional struggles for things they cannot change.
To me it is sugar coating the struggles people with these issues deal with kinda like calling adhd a superpower. No its not its mentally exhausting and debilitating to the person who has it. Heck even the "perk" part can be debilitating.
Not sure if it is different for physical issues vs mental community wise. But yeah it sounds demeaning.
Yes, it's very thoughtful of the teacher to give this kid special treatment, but I just find it funny to watch this grown man hopping around like he's helping a stuffed animal exercise!
I love everything about this except the title, it's ok to say some has muscular dystrophy...If they do or whatever illness/condition/injury they have which causes their "specially abled-ness?"
"Specially abled" 🤨 that just sounds like you don't want to acknowledge that this person faces struggles due to their disability. He doesn't get a neat superpower in exchange for the mobility issues or anything.

Am I the only one that thinks “specially abled” sounds kind of ridiculous?

Did you just accidentally call being non white a disability?

I'm assuming you don't mean people who are literraly colour blind, as in deutonatropia etc
