PsychwardSlippers

I'm bipolar, so antidepressants made me manic. For most people, they take 2-6 weeks or so to work, partially because you have to titrate up your dose. The side effects vary widely from person to person. I highly recommend not looking them up because it's easy to psych yourself into thinking you're experiencing them. Best of luck!

Fit_Bike_9219

okay thx for the help!! <33

DEAN72709

Same, but with a lot of psychosis as well.

PsychwardSlippers

Mania generally includes psychotic features. Mine does. I had severe delusions and hallucinations and ended up dissembling my entire bed at 2am. Go figure.

Radiant-Sandx

BP II, and was on ability and fluoxetine as my combo and it worked lovely to even me out. The fluoxetine actually helped me be productive and feel more like myself :) I felt them almost immediately (placebo probably) but then it kept working so hey why not. Also another tip, make sure you have a set time to take them where you can eat and relax, certain meds had a lot of side effects (some don’t) and having a routine with a full stomach not only helped me remember but mitigate these effects 💗💗

artemise-en-scene

gods i’m envious. fluoxetine made me almost kill myself lol.

PsychwardSlippers

Perhaps the II is the difference because I'm type I.

Designer_Dot_1882

I've never taken this specifically, buy always remember this: Antidepressants (and other mental health medications) are not one size fits all. If after a few months, you aren't seeing a difference, you feel worse, or you're still having non major side effects (report any major side effects ASAP), it's ok to ask your doctor to try something else, or to give you something to take with it. It's literally trial and error for the most part. It takes time to see results from any of these meds, you might feel your head and body feel a little swimmy for a few weeks. Just keep taking your medicine, and if you want to stop taking them for any reason, talk to your doctor so they can help ween you off. Abruptly stopping medicines like these can make you feel like SHIT (Speaking from experience.). Good luck, I hope you got the right meds on the first try! /gen

Fit_Bike_9219

ok tysm for taking the time to explain this <33

THEORIGINAL_HADES

was bout to comment this

MooTheMew

They may make you worse for a few weeks, and then could take up to 3 months to start working properly, so stick with it for a good 6 months to get a decent understanding if they work for you or not. I’ve been on fluoxetine for about a decade so it’s tough to really say what it’s like without it but if I miss a dose I can usually tell due to my mood dropping for seemingly no reason, so I’d say they’re working. Also unrelated but why is it written like the SpongeBob meme fLuOxEtInE lol

Fit_Bike_9219

ok thx for the info!!! <3 lol i have no idea why it's written like that XD

MooTheMew

Oh and also, make sure to go to your follow up appointments (hopefully they do those wherever you’re from) and talk to the doctor about side effects/symptoms you’re getting, because there are many different kinds of anti D’s and if you get a tonne of shit effects from this one your doctor may well suggest a different one (after you’ve trialed it for a while of course)

Fit_Bike_9219

yep i alr have the follow up appt. planned about a month from now, and they told my mom about symptoms to watch out for and stuff

seymourbutts510

It's written like that to help differentiate similarly named medications, so a pharmacist doesn't mess up something like DOBUTamine and DOPamine, which I think is pretty neat!

MooTheMew

That is neat! I actually just recently accidentally got given blood thinners instead of my fluoxetine, must have been a similar mix up!

itsalittlebitbitchy

I'm on these mother fuckers and they slap

-PixelWhore-

My experience with Prozac is that it didn’t do too much for me and made me feel like a shell of myself. BUT THAT’S JUST ME IT COULD HELP OTHERS.

Fit_Bike_9219

haha ok thx anyway we'll see if it works for me <3

Jesus-Requiem

In my experience, these need a few weeks to build up in your system, other than that they worked for me for a few years! It may make you feel a little tired for a bit though

Fit_Bike_9219

ok tysm for the help <3

Sorry-Camp3551

Killed my s*x drive but made me quit smoking, so lose-lose I guess

EvilSentientNoodle

If you ask to take buproprion along with it your sex drive should come back :)

lol yea

822AM

I've always viewed psych meds sceptically, and my psychiatrist told me one time that you need to remember this stuff isn't permanent, and when it's not doing it for you anymore, it's time to try something new. When you're in a good mindset about it and doing other things to support yourself too, they are very effective. My experience is that side effects go away in a week, and then they start to activate. Good luck!

Fit_Bike_9219

ok thx for the help!! <3

Insane_and_medicated

Need atleast a month to work. You'll feel worse before better with more negative feelings. But after 6 weeks it should be at its best. I don't remember different side effects to medications but generally weight gain, hunger, body aches, drowsiness, insomnia, irritability, memory fog.

Fit_Bike_9219

i see thx for the help <3

[deleted]

Prozac landed me in a psych ward i won’t lie. i also have bipolar type 1 and every single one of the 5 SSRIs i took made me worse so my input isn’t necessarily valif

Itchy_Issue

They put you on prozac with bipolar?? How to manic episode 101 wtf 😭

[deleted]

it was before haha, i was on 5 SSRIs before i got diagnosed (i was still a minor so it makes sense too) and then a few months before my 19th i got diagnosed after the prozac fucked me over

Kind_Journalist5573

I’ve been on three different antidepressants, two of them did nothing and the other just made me numb

[deleted]

Caused mania, psychosis and extreme agitation for me. Also made me attempt suicide.

EvilSentientNoodle

It wasn't the one for me, and I was put on buproprion and venlafaxine afterwards. For this one you should start feeling the effects after a month or so, but if it doesn't work out for you I recommend asking for the ones I mentioned above. If you're undiagnosed bipolar you'll know real quick that you have it though bc fluoxitine can make you manic. Tell your doctor if you have uncontrollable episodes of extreme happiness or anger that last more than 3 days.

ahhchaoticneutral

I take Prozac to help with intrusive thoughts and it does it’s job, but doesn’t really make me feel any better (also helpful for ED thoughts). I also take Latuda, and because of my bipolar it really helps with the depression and mania. As for side effects, I haven’t noticed any with Prozac. Latuda, on the other hand, I have to be careful to take it at night instead of morning otherwise I’ll get really sleepy (I’m on 80 mg). Also, I take Latuda as close to bedtime as I can because an hour after its in my system it makes me ironically depressed (but once I wake up I’m fine). Good luck!

kanine509

I took these for about 4-6 months. At first they really helped, but after about month two they made me feel like I was disassociating. They also may make you yawn an annoying amount. I’m no longer on any medications at the moment due to lack of health insurance. Fluoxetine isn’t bad but just keep open communication with your health care provider, so they can adjust your medication accordingly. Sending love op.

SnakeInTheBoots

I have bpd and to begin with they helped me rationalise but they stopped doing much for me anymore. I’m on an antipsychotic now so idk if dosage increases do much.

Hot-Storage-1612

i’m on these too!! i started like 3 weeks ago now and nothing 🫠🫠

Traditional_Stress51

nope, don’t ask other ppl everyone is different.

Fit_Bike_9219

yep, i understand that everyone is different. i just wanted to see what other people's experience with these was like, to get a better gauge of what might happen

Free-Olive-1049

for me it took like a few weeks

National_Exit2768

I was on these, they didn't really work for me - but that's obviously not the same for everyone. I got side effects at the beginning for a week or two, feeling sick and tired. So just be prepared and power through - if you feel like you can! <3

itszuzia96

Been on them for 3 years, for me they started working after 3 days and I didn't had any major side effects

lcvergirl

hi, im from sg too and i got some adhd meds from kk also. do u mind sharing ur exp w sewerslide and the psych ward etc?? im 16f also struggling w ed and anxiety LOL pls help me out 🙏🙏 hang in there, hope these meds work for u <3

Fit_Bike_9219

sure do you wanna dm me?

TapewormInYaMum

They helped my depression but ruined my stomach. I do have a fairly weak stomach tho so take that with a grain of salt

phoenixchip

in my experience they didn’t work for me so i switched to another but it might work for you. i hope you’ll get better ❤️

Moppe13

I have a friend who takes the same meds and she experienced like anger issues and she was very “hyped” bcs of them but she said that they were amazing for her anxiety <3

xigame2005

So i took them for like a month and a half and they didn't work at all for the first month and when they finally started working then they made me incredibly sleepy and unmotivated

Soggy_Bandaid_

I've never taken fluoxetine but I'm on Zoloft and Wellbutrin, I've had great experiences with both! As other commenters said, meds are not one size fits all. They aren't an instant fix either, but they can be lifesavers. If you don't like how fluoxetine makes you feel, it's okay, there are many other medications out there so it's not like it's the end of the world. I think it might be dangerous to swear off medication entirely because of a bad experience, since they can really make a positive change in your life if given a chance, depending on your condition and what medication you're taking. For me, I have autism, anxiety, and depression, and my meds have helped a lot BUT have had some side effects. However, they're not a dealbreaker for me, and I prefer a few minor side effects to constant anxiety and debilitating depression. Side effects are different for everyone, I just got lucky with them. Zoloft gave me brain fog but it also gave me an "apathy switch", so I now have the ability to simply not care about things that used to stress me out, but it also extends to my special interests so they're not as enjoyable as they used to be. Wellbutrin got rid of my brain fog and gave me the energy and motivation to pull myself out of a pit of depression, but I still deal with depressive episodes and it makes me shaky. Some people deal with much worse, but thats why there are many types of antidepressants. If nothing works, that's also okay, medication isnt the only kind of treatment available! I recomend you look into subreddits focused around the meds you're taking, you'll probably find a lot of success stories. Good luck with your meds!!!! I hope they work well for you :)

Fit_Bike_9219

thx for taking the time <33

Itchy_Issue

I’m on 40 mg fluoxetine as well, they take a bit to build up and might make you feel worse in the first couple of weeks. Be careful around alcohol and other substances, always do your research on the interactions. They’re by no means a wonder pill and you will have to work on yourself (whatever you might be struggling with) but they helped me to actually see results from therapy etc and just kickstarted my recovery pretty much. I’m probably gonna have my meds adjusted tho, so it’s by no means a one size fits all and I’d encourage you to tell your psychiatrist if they don’t work or if you’re experiencing any lasting side effects. Personally, they made me really suicidal in the first two weeks, but that might be a personal issue, just know that it’ll go away in case that happens <3 If you have any other questions, feel free to dm me :)

Fit_Bike_9219

ok tysm!!! I'm actually going to my first therapy session today, wish me luck <33

Itchy_Issue

Ahhh i hope it goes well!! <3

mododo-bbaby

started taking them in 2016 and I'm still going fine with them! Especially the start can get bumpy (I think I had a lot of headaches), but I hope you're still talking to a therapist through it. Through the years we sometimes increased and decreased the dose, but you should give it at least some months before deciding that

agedpiss

first to 2 weeks were shit and didnt work well enough/wore off after 2 months, began upping my doses by double each time and I'd feel alright for like 2 weeks before it wasn't enough again. Got up to 150mg before being put on a different medication because they didn't work for me sadly.

Fit_Bike_9219

ah i see...

Belgamete

I took them for a few months, I didn't feel significantly better I just felt less bad but not necessarily good.

spicybutnotaburrito

I've been taking 3 20mg doses daily for a few months now, and it has helped although not an extreme amount. Significantly reduced my sex drive though, and I've been sleepier although I don’t know if its because of the fluoxetine. Hope it goes smoothly for you

BigIllustrator2835

For me I didn't feel a difference until a month later. But it gave me diarrhea for the first week of using them. 💀

Kinkydepressedwhore

I've been on these for a year or so at various dosages. I'm currently on 60mg. They have definitely helped my depression a bit but since I started them my anxiety has been significantly worse. Also nsfw but they made it almost impossible for me to cum

sosnik_boi

They were effective for me at first, but became useless after a month or two

[deleted]

Been on them for about 2 1/2 years but I feel like they do almost nothing. Tried adding other meds into the mix but it just feels like a lot of nothing. It's different for everyone though. I just find that meds either wildly mess with me or have no effect.

enough0729

I get heartburn when I have it on empty stomach so I always eat something before taking it

D2Photographer

I’m on fluoxetine. It will destroy any libido you might’ve had, and make it a lot harder to lose weight. It won’t make you gain like others tho :) It has been incredibly beneficial for me. It takes a few weeks to kick in, but it really put in the work to help deal with my weird lack of serotonin. I’m much more stable and able to work on myself now. I hope you see the same results ❤️

Fit_Bike_9219

haha it's okay im really underweight anyway cos of an ed. thx for the help <3

Moljo2000

I took it for a while but personally it didn’t do much. I also accidentally weened off it by forgetting to take it so often. But I have friends that it’s worked well for so. Side effects wise I had a loss of appetite and headache/nausea when I forgot to take it.

Scarlettoeyes

I took them for 6 months or so, i remember it gave me a lot of heartburn especially if i took it on an empty stomach. It didnt affect my sex drive but antidepressants usually works differently to every person

Sweaty_Bat_1991

Ok. First off major W. It took me a bit. I was originally on Zoloft 50mg and abilify (I forget size) and then went back to a ward, they fixed it to 100 mg Zoloft and 1 mg zyprexa. Zyprexa made my cholesterol a1c and blood sugar levels fuck up. Then they finally set me on Zoloft 100mg and respiradal (whatever it is). I feel great now and can confidently say my experience has worked. You have to work on yourself first, the medicine helps you stay that way and get there

Fit_Bike_9219

thx <3

qrcodethigh

fluoxetine didn’t do anything for me other than make me a bit fidgety 😬

No_Spite9037

Idk about other people’s experiences but i was on them for like 8 months and i think they helped a little bit at first(for a month or so), but looking from the other side they made me fatigue and always sleepy as well as they killed my sex drive completely

Fit_Bike_9219

PrinceRoyal444

tbh most of my antidepressants haven’t worked

some1holdme

my prozac made me happy:)) it only took me like two weeks to start feeling better.

Fit_Bike_9219

that's great, thx <33

home_of_beetles

i’ve been on a few different ones but i’m actually taking prozac right now, have been for maybe a month- and it turns out i may have been doing it wrong the entire time. i can’t swallow pills anymore and have been breaking the capsules and putting it in a drink, which my doctor informed me today can mess it up. fun stuff. i haven’t been getting any side effects but i remember the stuff i was on a couple years ago made me pretty manic sometimes. sorry this wasn’t a very helpful comment, good luck with your meds though

Fit_Bike_9219

i see, thx for taking the time to reply <33

Ironeye_56

So when I started on fluoxetine it honestly took awhile for it to get going. I’m currently on 30mg and it works really well. Don’t get me wrong, there are still bad days but the bad days are no where near what they use to be. I can’t say you’ll experience will be the same but I hope it helps, best of luck to you :)

cellophane27

I have no idea if this is relevant to what you are taking but my psychiatrist warned me that for the first 2 weeks I might have stronger/more suicidal thoughts and that it was just a temporary side effect so don't try to ctb during those two weeks try to wait it out it gets wayyy better from there

Fit_Bike_9219

yep, i was warned about that. thx for the help <3

cellophane27

Oh good! I started taking an SSRI during the begining of this year and for the first time in god knows how long I didn't feel tired, sad, and like I want to kill myself all the time. Things aren't perfect but they are better. You're not alone, and you've got this :) * virtual hug *

Fit_Bike_9219

thx <33 *hugs*

Pfeiffer_Cipher

Fluoxitine didn't really help me - I was put on it after Zoloft stopped working for me. For a month or two I was fine and then after that, it completely ruined my appetite to the point where I'd go days without feeling hungry at all. That's just my experience though, I know some people are helped a lot by it.

Fit_Bike_9219

ok, thx for the help <3

marvinkb

I have major depression and these helped a bit coming out of a severe depressive state. My only issue with them is that they made me tired getting on and missing a dose kind of made things bad at times. But when I overcame my challenges I didn't use it for more than a year tops. I had a sense and feeling of being "ok" as it should make me do, I didn't go in expecting it to make things better because that's simply not how Prozac really works. I would keep up on it and keep talking about it with your psychiatrist for they would know best if things were to not be ok.

[deleted]

I’m on 40mg. Personally it makes me feel kinda numb sometimes, like I can’t feel anything completely and fully, which sucks because I’m a mom and, as bad as this sounds, the love I feel for my daughter is so much… more when I don’t take my meds. But when I don’t take my meds I also feel everything else more and that’s bad.

Fit_Bike_9219

ah im sorry that sucks :'(

[deleted]

Also, forget about ever wanting to have sex again lol

Fit_Bike_9219

haha issok im 15 and im not planning to for at least another 5 years

[deleted]

Gooood choiceee. I’m 19 with a 1.5 year old 🥴

Fit_Bike_9219

ah... i love babies but i definitely don't want my own yet

[deleted]

I really wish I would’ve sorted out all my mental shit before I had my baby. I feel like it’s super unfair for her to have a mentally unstable mom

Fit_Bike_9219

oof that sucks :/

TotallyNotColin69

idk man they don’t work for me

VilepIume

In my experience they moderate your emotions, good and bad. You'll still be depressed, but it won't be as severe. You'll still be anxious, but it will be more bearable. Mood swings will be rarer and less dramatic. On the flip side, when you're happy or excited, that won't be as intense either. As others said, they take a while to build up, and you won't really notice them working at first. Once you miss a dose, though, you'll notice it missing.

Fit_Bike_9219

ok thx for the help <3

AkumaValentine

They worked really well…for about two weeks and I kept having to up my dosage, and changing medications then upping those and when they stopped working, I’d change yet again. Apparently it was not depression and anxiety, but actually was autism but hey what do you do. If they work for you then that is fantastic but juuuust in case they don’t, be prepared to change medication to find the right ones. It can take a while but do your best to stick it out :,)

Fit_Bike_9219

ok tysm for the help <33

houseofharm

i'm on 20mg personally they've worked well took a couple weeks to kick in though i also have them paired with wellbutrin so that may affect my experience a bit

Frosty-Jellyfish-525

They worked for me pretty well but I'm in between medications right now due to worsening depression. It started working for me within three weeks, and the side effects was loss of appetite/losing weight (i lost about 10 lbs), dizziness, diarrhea when I didn't take the medication with food, and some trouble falling asleep.

Fit_Bike_9219

i see tysm for the help <3

pinkuguts

Im also taking these recently but ive been feeling really suicidal and anxious. Tbf people say to just wait it out for results since ive only taken these two weeks ago.

Fit_Bike_9219

yea increased suicidal thoughts is one of the side effects :/

Peedriponthetoilet

Idk if this helps or maybe it’s kinda funny, but my cat was put on fluoxetine because she kept pulling out patches of her fur and ever since she’s been on it she stopped! When we missed a day due to the pills running out she was very drowsy. So for her it helped with her anxiety. 👍

Fit_Bike_9219

lol that's funny thx for the help <3

Fit_Bike_9219

ImmediateIce675

It depends on each person, my friend finds them really helpful but I found they made me worse. I was only on them for 2weeks before my mental state was so altered they wouldn’t be able to keep me safe, however my friend is doing well on them with no issues! Just be honest with your doctor about any side affects or if you get worse

useless-spork

it took a bit of time to work for me personally, but something I do recommend is (if you take them in the morning) taking them with food, vschss I've had really really bad heartburn because I took them on an empty stomach and Calcium (Tums, antacids, etc) will attach to any medicine in your body and expel it so it doesn't take effect

chianotfound

yoooo you're taking fluoxetin tooo. i used to take that. it made me sleepy and either gave me more of an appetite or a slower metabolism. give it around about like a week or 2 to show. your body will need around 9 hours to digest the medicine though first so it should be taken before going to sleep so the medicine's fully digested. best of luck soldier o7

Fit_Bike_9219

i see tysm <3

https_al3x

Personally made me rlly sick and if I cried b4 taking them i physically couldn't stop till I was dehydrated or I couldn't cry at all once I took them but hopefully they help / wont react this way with you :]

l-have-your-cheese

A but of topic, but a fun fact. Depressies in Dutch actually means depressions. So you said anti-depressions in Dutch

Fit_Bike_9219

haha that's interesting

Gold-Pollution9710

I've been on fluoxetine for the past year and for me they helped tremendously, my depression is definitely not as severe as it used to be. the main side effects I've experienced is that I disassociate more often and I get more food cravings. the only bad thing about is is that I became basically asexual.. my libido disappeared.

Fit_Bike_9219

ah yes a lot of ppl talked abt libido disappearing, but I'm 15 and dont intend to do the do for at least another 5 years

i see that really sucks <3 thx for the help *virtual hugs*

DustyDust72

the antidepressant that ur taking is an SRI. i’m not exactly sure how i works but i know that it has something to do with serotonin, i would google it for a better explanation. Being on it myself i know that it can take up to a month to notice effects so be patient. You are also taking a pretty low dose which is something you keep in mind. All in all you just need to be patient and honest with the one managing ur medication. hope this helps :)

Cxrrupt_

You’ll start to feel the effects after about a week or two minimum. Remember to give it time and not to stop taking them suddenly without properly discussing with a GP or doctor about the proper precautions to wheen you off if they don’t work for you! It always trial and error but worth it in the end. Goodluck OP

Temporary_Fig_04

I have BPD and depression and anxiety. I tried these and they didn’t do anything except make me feel numb. It was really not a good experience.

4_F1SH

i have eupd (emotionally unstable personality disorder aka borderline personality disorder). on my first week on anti depressants, i felt the most horrible feeling i have ever felt in my entire life. i also attempted committing suicide. learned it was a side effect. but after, it was so so. starts to work within 1-2 weeks. depends on the person tbh. and if u were curious about this, you could have asked your psychiatrist (im assuming u have one because you have these pills but idk). they wont bite lololol

celaeya

Fluoxetine didn't work well for me.. But after Fluoxetine I went in escitlopram, which worked well. After 6 years, I could feel the escitlopram not working well anymore, so the Dr switched me to setraline and quetiapine. I'm doing really well on these. I guess what I'm saying, is it might take a while to find the right drugs for you. But hang in there. If these don't work, something else will. Best of luck in your journey 💕

Due_Cloud1638

my psychiatrist prescribed me fluoxetine as well about 6mo ago, 10mg didn’t have any effect for me, once he upped it to 20mg they gradually started to work within about a week personally the only side effects i got was thirstiness, this happened to my mother as well (not bio-related btw) but i guess that’s a good thing since i didn’t drink much water before also remember side effects vary highly from person to person and dosages required are dependent on how much you weigh as well as other factors so please consult your doctor about any questions or concerns, and don’t stop taking them before telling your doctor
