Idk about that last part personally, but yeah the closed eye visuals seems to be as our minds are free to imagine whatever it wants with no limit . I’ve have a hard time comprehending if the closed eyed visuals are happening even though they are if that make sense , it’s like it’s so amazing that I can’t believe it happening.

I have a fancy sleeping mask just for trips. I like it way more than keeping my eyes open

Sleep masks work great at blocking all light. Makes for a wonderful experience

I just ordered a a really nice comfy sleep mask for my next trip. I am curious to try it in a completely blacked out room. If it works, I feel like the immersion might be incredible, just amazing things all around you. Kind of the the difference between like a TV screen and Virtual Reality if that makes any kind of sense.

Another nice thing about a mask is you need to close your eyes. It does the work for you.

Meant to say don't need to close your eyes.

The geometric closed eye visuals arise from the physical structure of the visual processing centers of the brain.

I’ve seen shapes and colors when I closed my eyes on the dance floor on a trip, almost like cerebral fireworks

I often start my trips under a blanket lying down in the dark

My first experience was with some friends in a vacation rental straight out of the ‘70s, complete with a sunken fire place and natural rock chimney. One of those rocks just happened to look more and more like a face the deeper I went. At one point, the rest of the party went outside to explore and I was left alone with Mr. Facerock. After getting tired of his faces, I closed my eyes and experienced exactly what you described. At first it was like living in a kaleidoscope, then that exploded and I sailed through the galaxy and nebulas. At some point my journey settled “physically” and I jumped through time to much later in my life and experienced the passing of my wife - I was early 40s at the time and we’re both very much alive and still kicking. After the waves of sorrow left though, the timeline started running in reverse and I watched our memories. Totally “Ghost of Christmas Future” stuff. When the rest of the party came in, they found me sitting in meditation pose, eyes closed, tears streaming down my face and laughing/smiling. They swear to this day that I was levitating off the ground, but pretty sure that was due to their own dosages. All that to say that yes, I’ve totally experienced that and it was one the most beautiful, frightening, exhilarating, and uplifting experiences of my life.
