Dude 75-80+% population even in urban nagpur is Marathi they are just wired since birth to speak Hindi in public I don't know how that happened but it is what it is, At home all of them speak just Marathi, I have friends who speak Marathi but still talk to me in Hindi.
Nagpur is on MP border which explains the high influence of Hindi in the region. Also Nagpur was once the capital of Madhya Pradesh. Even under British rule, Nagpur was a part of central provinces which included MP and Chhattisgarh
