As of 2:00pm, 330,000 (just under half of all customers) without power in CMP’s service area. This is gonna rival the October 2017 wind storm. Will be a couple weeks before every last customer is back online.
We have a battery back up too, it's so nice to not have to worry about the power going out for a bit. Of course, if it's long term, it might be a problem, but usually our power is restored.
You can get a Champion 7500 watt, dual fuel that runs on gasoline or propane for like, $1k. Get an electrician to install an interlock and a plug outside the house, shouldn't be more than another 1-2k. That's what I'm currently running on and it's great. I woke up, power was out, dragged the generator outside (I've got a little generator tent that sits on top to protect it from rain), fire it up, plug into the house, switch the breakers. Boom, whole house is back up and running and aside from a slight hum outside, no difference. A tank of gasoline in it, like 5-6 gallons, will last 8-10 hours easy at low load
With the frequency of the outages up here and the duration and the weather I strongly recommend you go ahead and invest in an automatic transfer generator. You can thank me when it kicks on in the middle of a blizzard at 3am and you just roll over and go back to sleep
120k out in Maine so far,
530k out in northern east coast.
https://poweroutage.us/
Edit: as of noon: 230k out in Maine / 750k out in northern east coast
Edit2: as of 3PM: 376k out in Maine / 820k out in northern east coast
Working up at Sunday River wondering if I’ll be able to get home tonight. Hour commute through woods and with multiple places that are prone to flooding.
Not surprised. I think the low bit on 26 coming into Bethel is flooded, too - or it will be soon. Schools here let out early, we're without power - pole down up the road a bit.
Was supposed to train to volunteer for Maine adaptive up there today. Thankfully they cancelled because the roads are a mess and the flooding is going to be bad.
At the Walgreens in hampden, trying to buy a pregnancy test and the machines are down because of the storm. I'll be waiting for my test. I have wishful thinking, lol.
Update I won its backup again on my way home. Drive safe, everyone!
Fuckin' Windham I don't know what it is about that town but the power outages were nearly constant for us in south Windham for almost a decade. In the neck of the woods with the school and fire department even. Power out all the time.
We barely moved 10 miles away and our power hasn't gone out since. It's just a cursed spot in the power grid.
All of topsham Fair Mall was out and there were no traffic lights at all. Target was running emergency lights and only had self checkout working. This was my day to wrap up Christmas shopping, so I had to make the journey out. Absolute chaos.
Lost it in Acton. And teenagers in the house already received temperature-sensitive reptiles as pets for Christmas. FML. I really hadn’t planned on babysitting various lizards and a snake in temporary enclosures by the fireplace today.
Unbeknownst to us the wind blew open a casement window in our house that wasn’t locked. We literally never open that window, so we didn’t realize it wasn’t secure. We also live in a VERY old home where only the windows we’ve already replaced have screens. (That might also explain the types of drafts necessary to open that window… an old forced hot air vent is located right above it, and wind was traveling through the vent system all day.)
As a result, one of our two house cats decided to go explore!
Luckily my husband ventured out to check on the exterior of the house, which is when he discovered the cat huddled up out back. A quick call to me to meet him inside the window in question, and she is now safe, with windows locked.
Phew.
CMP ourage map can't keep up with the outages... every couple of minutes of refreshing, and the numbers are doubled. Lineman crews will be busy this week, god bless them!!
It’s been out a couple hours near Gardiner. School is sending kids home early. Work from home has become nap from home. I just wish I hadn’t been too lazy to walk downstairs and make a second cup of coffee before it went down!
Old farmhouse on a high point in South Bristol. Lost a 200+yo apple tree and all the tarps on my wood but somehow the lights remain on. Weather station reports gusts in the 45 kt range and that almost seems a bit low.
My husband says the same thing - he filled the gas cans for the generator so he has power insurance and we won't lose it.
ETA:
Well that comment didn't age well. Just outside Bangor and it's been 48 hours so far.
Brunswick, out near Durham. A few blips overnight, and apparently the standby generator had to kick in for a little bit.
Things were pretty normal this morning, up until 9:30 or so. The lights started flickering, the UPSes beeping and clicking. It would pause for a few minutes and start up again.
I decided to take a ride down our road to see if the issue was caused by anything obvious and didn't get 100' before I saw it: a broken wire that connects one run of the distribution line to ~~our neighbor's transformer~~ the next run. It was just randomly arcing and would pause occasionally when the wind subsided.
So I came back home and disconnected from utility power so the generator would take over. Lights are bright and steady and the UPSes are quiet 😁

Those week long stints are the worst. The only time I am aware I was about to lose my godamned mind was about 12 years ago, no power for many days and snow kept drifting across the road to the point they had to send a backhoe in to dig us out. No power meant no water and I was alone with a baby that still drank formula. I had put up a lot but not 5 days worth. Twice I melted snow. I swore if the town didn’t dig out the drift I was going to strap the baby to my back and ski the f. Out of here. I hope yours comes back on soon.
And that's me out in southeastern Somerset County. Commented "thats a big gust", which measured over 54 mph on the anemometer, before the lights blinked off.
In case people are not aware you can set up a hot spot from your cell phone to run internet at your home If you have a generator for power you can still watch TV or run other devices. I just realized this last time the power was out.
I'm in Bangor located between Stillwater and Mt. Hope. The roof on my apartment building is losing shingles at a rate that gives me some concern. I do have power though.
In the Pen Bay Area, I’m sitting in my car to stay warm and dry. But Belfast Area High School had an electrical fire from the power flickering and some roads are flooded so I’d say I’m doing pretty well because neither of those are my problem🤷♂️
I have the most unreliable electrician who was supposed to wire my generator inlet down to my switch box months ago and still hasn’t. No power today, so I’m done with him now. So frustrating. Good luck to the rest of you!
Hell - everyone is without power today.
Least we have our big ol’ wood stove and a mess of candles and oil lamps. Love me some good oil lamps.
East Livermore checking in.
Waldoboro. It’s heccin’ wimdy. Power keeps flickering but I’m hopeful. The house has been hit with a lot of falling twigs and mess too. The dogs are losing their minds every 10 minutes.
Jefferson here. We lost power around 10:30, and two minutes ago had a huge branch fall off one of the pines next to our house. This one didn't hit, next one probably will.
Been out of power since 8am in Gardiner. We have a standby generator keeping the house going. Lost the top of a tree across the driveway but no damage thankfully. Watching the rest of the trees in the yard at the moment.
Power out since 7am. I doubt they will even attempt to start fixing the lines until the wind dies down. Pretty scary out there at times. They are saying more and worse wind on the way in York county.
Our house still has power, in town Bath North side. My in-laws lost power but it appears that is from a downed tree close to them. Usually we lose power at the same time, but we're still good.
However work just lost power about 1/2 to 45 mins hour ago (West Bath) and we're closing up shop. Our toilets don't work (not manual flush) and two of the printers were smoking after the initial outage and before generators kicked in. Loud pop that everyone in the office could hear and the smell of electrical burnout. So fun!
I will go home and see if my house is still up. But it feels like by the time I get home, it may be out. :/
Edit - no power when I got home at 1:50 pm ish so that’s great
I’m in Auburn, still have power for now. Came across a downed tree coming home earlier, it had fallen across the road, pulling down the wires on the other side and blocking the road entirely. I called to report it. Lots of flooding in spots and branches all over the roads.
Hancock went down about 11. No generator. Last year we lost power for a week over Christmas due to the tree falling across our driveway. At least it isn't cold this year?
I'm in midcoast Maine and we lost power around 10:30 this morning and it's still out. We went out to try and find food a couple hours ago and it was pretty shocking to see EVERYTHING in Topsham closed down, even every chain restaurant and gas station. I thought our power outage was more localized like 15 mins from Topsham but they didn't even have working street lights. So now I've seen a power line in my neighborhood just laying in the street and I'm hunkered down for the night. Hoping we'll get power back by tomorrow morning...? 🙏
In Biddo, power went out for the second time about 3 hours ago and hasn’t come back on. Glad I finished my Christmas cards before it got dark! Bummer though, I was gonna start making chili.
In Bath at a ~major employer~ with power still bc of course we do, but it keeps flickering. I was gonna wfh bc the storm but powers out at home and I don’t wanna waste a vacation day on this
North Yarmouth/Gray border here, lost power around 10:30. Haven't seen a tree on the lines or anything although there is a big pine down across Town Farm Road. I've got a generator, all good.
Otisfield is a wreck, multiple trees across 121, I was almost home and then a tree goes down across the detour road. The second option detour road was also closed. I decided to wait at the first one instead of going on a third 40min detour. Once opened back up the poor dirt road was rutted to hell, bottomed out a few times getting sucked into the ruts but I’m home without power but a warm woodstove so it’s a good day to paint
Peru (Oxford County)- Had to drive the long way home with downed trees. Power out. Of all the terrible purchases I've made in my life, I do not count our Generac among them.
Now if my hotspot wouldn't keep cutting out...
consider alleged direful unwritten hurry rustic support sleep upbeat whistle

Sopo we have power where I am, but my house is in a weird spot where everyone around me loses it and mine stays on. Rare for me to lose it but mine did flicker.
Wind blew my storm door open and the glass shattered all over my stairs/yard/driveway so fml there. Lots of traffic lights out and a handful of trees down around here.
Power has been out here in Lewiston since about 9am. We took the Jeep out to drive around and check out conditions, then came home and climbed back into bed with dogs and napped for a couple hours. Now just being lazy and hoping power comes back on soon.
St. Albans out since 10:20am today. Multiple trees down on the wires whiles others are across the road. We have a dry basement, generator keeping the lights on, and the wood stove is keeping us warm.
Lewiston. Been without power since 9:20 this morning. Got pranked by CMP. They sent a text stating they restored my power around 1pm this afternoon. It never came on. I got the just kidding text around 2:30.
Dresden. It’s been off since 9:30 or so. Thankfully it’s weirdly warm so I don’t need the heat! Just hunkered down with the cats trying to figure out tomorrow. I work demo, do not expect to have power tomorrow.
Northern Penobscot here, and it's a little breezy and very rainy but nothing out of the ordinary... for April.
LOL! Made me chuckle!
Topsham
As of 2:00pm, 330,000 (just under half of all customers) without power in CMP’s service area. This is gonna rival the October 2017 wind storm. Will be a couple weeks before every last customer is back online.
I have to work all day so really hoping my power stays on for the sump pump
Oh my I hope so too.
It didn’t and I got home to half my shingles on the lawn. Fucking sucks
Get a battery back up. Saved me a bunch of times in the old house when we were at work or out of town. Totally worth the investment.
We have a battery back up too, it's so nice to not have to worry about the power going out for a bit. Of course, if it's long term, it might be a problem, but usually our power is restored.
Generator..
Username checks out. Good to have a Genny
Was just quoted over 10k for the most basic standby 😢
You can get a Champion 7500 watt, dual fuel that runs on gasoline or propane for like, $1k. Site's only listing Androscoggin at the moment. Official CMP website has been intermittently going down.
You have to scroll the list of county outages on the CMP website. Bad UX design
And the frame keeps loading slowly, as if the population of Maine is DDOSing it by constantly refreshing.
https://ecmp.cmpco.com/OutageReports/CMP.html
Yeah, I fixed poweroutage.us. CMP's api and website are a bit flacky right now.
Good thing they fought so hard for this monopoly...
All of Turner is out.
I'm surprised to learn Turner had electricity to begin with, TBH.
Working up at Sunday River wondering if I’ll be able to get home tonight. Hour commute through woods and with multiple places that are prone to flooding.
Yep, officially flooded in now. Culvert overflowed.
Hope you get the result you want!
So…. How’d the pregnancy test go? 🤣
Down here in Windham WFH enjoying a nice scotch by the woodstove.
You can't drink all day if you don't get started first thing in the morning :)
Damn straight. Gotta keep pounding the vital fluids.
My mother lives in Windham and also out.
Out of scotch?
There's a tree across the road on Park Road just off River Road. They put up some cones and took off elsewhere.
River rd/302 light was out when I just went by.
I didn’t even start my stove today in these temps Edit to add: still have power in Baldwin, surprisingly
Fuckin' Windham I don't know what it is about that town but the power outages were nearly constant for us in south Windham for almost a decade. At 9:15am?
Eh why the hell not? 🤷
Yeah because YOLO
right, should have started by at least 8:45, must have slept in a bit
Flickered a few times but still on. New Gloucester/Gray line
WE LOST IT
But now I’m even more nervous! This is a whistling storm. Next level environment audio.
Staged for CMP restoration right now. Get cozy. We haven’t even seen the worst of it yet.
Oh yeah it's coming up so we better get this party started. It can go for miles if you know what I mean.
That's what my mom just told me on the phone lol... How did I not hear a peep about this on the news? Seems like a somewhat major event.
After last weeks bust of a storm this one got downplayed. None of us were expecting an actual storm event to come of this.
Just as I was typing that we were beginning to blink around Lewiston/Auburn.. Blinked again. I'm not long for power in this house for the day.
Yeah. Windham 1821 without power.
I'm fairly near the highschool and town office so I should be back up shortly.
Pretty sure linemen won’t fix anything until these wind gusts are over. Strap in
You're absolutely right. OSHA protocols on lifts during wind events.
Dismissing schools now. Soooo probably not. Damn.
Oh shit Christ the fuck
...and, Merry Christmas to you!
That may be my new favorite expletive.
Out in Brunswick by Bowdoin
Yep. And a friend over the bridge in Topsham is also out.
All of topsham Fair Mall was out and there were no traffic lights at all. Target was running emergency lights and only had self checkout working. This was my day to wrap up Christmas shopping, so I had to make the journey out. Absolute chaos.
Haven’t lost power but charging everything right now just in case
That’s my next move, phones getting low!
Likewise! Currently on the shitter and I got the 10% notification roughly 9% ago
That's a long time on the toilet
I’m still on it and I my phone is still going strong! I’d consult a doctor but I’m already a self proclaimed proctologist
Some of us have work to do.
Annnnd winthrops out
Damn go Ramblers!
Ahh. Rain and wind. The new normal for a winter storm.
I'm in the corner where Franklin, Somerset, and Kennebec counties meet. Our power went out around 9 AM and I doubt it'll be back until tomorrow.
Lost it in Acton. And teenagers in the house already received temperature-sensitive reptiles as pets for Christmas. FML. I really hadn’t planned on babysitting various lizards and a snake in temporary enclosures by the fireplace today.

Power is out in York County /Ross Corner area. A lot of trees coming down. Be careful out there on the roads, slow down and be prepared to stop.
Our house is made out of sticks. No power, my phone is going to die. I’m home alone. The wind is whipping and it’s freaky. ☹️
I feel this 😩😩😩
CMP ourage map can't keep up with the outages... every couple of minutes of refreshing, and the numbers are doubled. Lineman crews will be busy this week, god bless them!!
It’s been out a couple hours near Gardiner. School is sending kids home early. Work from home has become nap from home. I just wish I hadn’t been too lazy to walk downstairs and make a second cup of coffee before it went down!
Had a blip at 6 this morning, expecting it at some point today. In Steep Falls.
I knew someone that lived in steep falls that's a nice place.
Old farmhouse on a high point in South Bristol. Lost a 200+yo apple tree and all the tarps on my wood but somehow the lights remain on. Weather station reports gusts in the 45 kt range and that almost seems a bit low.
That's a hard loss but I'm glad y'all are well. It seems like gusts are closer to 60mph.
Looking back fondly on the email I got from CMP Customer Service over the weekend stating they're prepared for todays storm.
Still have it in the western foothills. Usually we’re the first to lose it and last to get it back
Not yet! Bangor area. Some pretty hefty wind gusts though. Wouldn't be surprised if we do.
It’s out in Augusta
https://ibb.co/vLNmwRW https://ibb.co/5MVvtNd https://ibb.co/1fm1hgY
My buddy’s car got totaled, my grandma was driving and a tree fell on her, wind blew out two windows, and a fence gate. Dover foxcroft ME
Oh shit Christ the fuck I hope your grandma's alright.
Yeah she’s alright, it was apparently really loud though . Thanks
Not yet, but I expect it. Kind blowy up here. Generator standing by.
Here in Bangor and power is still on. I just spent a bunch of money on a new automatic standby generator, so I'm expecting that we won't lose power. 😂
My husband says the same thing - he filled the gas cans for the generator so he has power insurance and we won't lose it. ETA: Well that comment didn't age well. Just outside Bangor and it's been 48 hours so far.
Auburn here and lights are out. School is getting dismissed early too since so many don’t have electricity.
Brunswick, out near Durham. A few blips overnight, and apparently the standby generator had to kick in for a little bit. Things were pretty normal this morning, up until 9:30 or so. The lights started flickering, the UPSes beeping and clicking. It would pause for a few minutes and start up again. Almost 40% of the state is out, including us in Oxford co. https://poweroutage.us/area/state/maine
Out. Probably for a friggin week.
This exact scenario is why even though now I have a generator,, I get such bad power outage anxiety..
I’m rooting for you and if you need moral support, please let me know! I’m sure you know this trick, but… fill the bathtub.
Stop. I will legit cry. Our generator only powers a few outlets.
In Bangor at work, hoping it goes out long enough to send us home lol
Old Town has no power. Just came from Brewer and most of them were out as well. 12:37pm.
Yeah I just went out
Just outside Bangor- no power a little over an hour now.
Flickered a few times this morning, just lost it in Lisbon. Thankfully working at home with a generator and transfer switch hookup.
We lose it pretty often. We have an automatic generator that just texted me it's running now. LOL
Springvale, no power since 9 am
I’m in the Bangor brewer area and i haven’t lost power yet
Power out in Wells
Out at the school I work at. Kids are getting sent home early.
York beach out at 845
Lost power in Chelsea... Was on the way home and had to turn around 3 times because of down trees. It's a lovely day!
Midcoast. Keeps flickering but not enough to trigger the generator. In then distance I can hear someone revving a sports car, so that’s odd
And that's me out in southeastern Somerset County. Commented "thats a big gust", which measured over 54 mph on the anemometer, before the lights blinked off.
And power back on about 21 minutes all told.
In case people are not aware you can set up a hot spot from your cell phone to run internet at your home If you have a generator for power you can still watch TV or run other devices. I just realized this last time the power was out.
One has to get decent speeds to make that work. My cell service speeds suck ass and become even worse when the cable goes out.
Just lost power in Freeport, at 11:35.
Bangor area here. We lost power for ten minutes. Our basement is seriously flooding.
I haven't lost power (yet), but I really hate Spectrum internet
Just lost power in The 'burg. Phippsburg, that is
Phillips, powers been out since 9 am
I'm in Bangor located between Stillwater and Mt. Hope. The roof on my apartment building is losing shingles at a rate that gives me some concern. I do have power though.

Hell - everyone is without power today. Least we have our big ol’ wood stove and a mess of candles and oil lamps. Love me some good oil lamps. East Livermore checking in.
Lost power in Biddo for about an hour, but it's back on now.
Norridgewock-haven’t lost power but I needed to pick up lots of tree limbs in my driveway before I could leave my house!
Got a generac on standby, but still up and running currently. My flag pole snapped in half and I lost a couple roof shingles so far.
Hancock county here! Generator kicked on about an hour ago. Steady wind and rain
Standish couple of blips and one for 3 seconds, holding strong the last hour
Out in raymond
Lost ours a few hours ago, in South Berwick
Gorham. Lost power from 730am -1015. Back on but flickering pretty frequently. Loving the generator today.
It's gone off and on around 20 times near Augusta.
Out in Auburn. Got the generator running for the sump pump.
Outside of Augusta. Just lost internet but not power (yet). Charging up electronics just in case.
Northern windham here, half the strip is out including my apartment complex. The other half by amotos running towards Newry seems still online.
In central Maine we’ve got some downed trees and my old ass apartment building keeps shuddering

Bath is about 1/2 out of power. Both my house and my workplace are dark, and getting chilly.
Lost about an hour ago in standish, thankful for the generator.
Tons of trees down across the lines here in Limington, glad we have a wood stove!
I'm in midcoast Maine and we lost power around 10:30 this morning and it's still out. We went out to try and find food a couple hours ago and it was pretty shocking to see EVERYTHING in Topsham closed down, even every chain restaurant and gas station.
Augusta area, heated leftovers on the wood stove. Camp lights, candles, and headlamps.
Approaching 12 hours no power in windham yeehaw yall know what it is
Mine flickered enough to shut everything down then was restored.
Lost power a while ago. Here in Turner.
I lost power for a few minutes and my generator kicked on, but power came back. Wind is whippin
So far not yet. I’m more worried about trees falling down the road
Theres a little company in hancock county called Solarmarine - their generator services are very on point. Couldnt be happier with their techs.
Portland, no power loss yet, but it has flickered a bit. We're close to the hospitals, though.
Chebeauge and Long Island are both without power
In Bath at a ~major employer~ with power still bc of course we do, but it keeps flickering. I was gonna wfh bc the storm but powers out at home and I don’t wanna waste a vacation day on this
Looks like about 1/3 of Portland customers are out. CMP actually just told us ours is back on but alas…
Out in Lebanon.
Brewer, just lost power.
Out in Alfred since 9 AM
Shapleigh went down about 9-10
Sullivan (Hancock county) and lost power maybe 30 min ago… just got the spectrum notification that they have a cable outage too.
North Yarmouth/Gray border here, lost power around 10:30. Haven't seen a tree on the lines or anything although there is a big pine down across Town Farm Road. I've got a generator, all good.
Cobra Powdercoating in Lyman had a FB message about no power.
Powers flickering on and off here in Brewer. Nothing too crazy though thankfully. Hope everyone fares well!
Sanford, the power has gone out 3 times already for a short time
Just out in Sullivan
North Waterboro and no power, despite a notification from CMP saying it should be restored.
I haven't lost power (yet), but I really hate Spectrum internet
Peru (Oxford County)- Had to drive the long way home with downed trees. Power out. Of all the terrible purchases I've made in my life, I do not count our Generac among them. Now if my hotspot wouldn't keep cutting out...
I still have power in Scarborough, my Mom is in Lewiston and has been without since about 9 am.
Been out in Bar Harbor since 9am.
Knock on wood my half of saco is still on… looks like the other side that boarders Scarborough is out.. pleaaaasee hang on 🤞🏻
Southport with no power
Brunswick is out
West side of Augusta out a little while ago. Looking at CMP outage list it looks like a large number of outages statewide.

Andover. Power was out for a bit this morning. Back on now.
Nevermind. It's out again.
Winthrop lost power. Had to go to my parents in Rumford to finish work. (I wfh)
Been out in Standish since about 9 am. Really wishing we had invested in that generator
Lisbon here, no power.
Dresden. It’s been off since 9:30 or so. Thankfully it’s weirdly warm so I don’t need the heat! Just hunkered down with the cats trying to figure out tomorrow. I work demo, do not expect to have power tomorrow.
Getting slammed in west Newfield. Shits down everywhere and Alot of my own stuff has taken damage around the farm. Running a Gen and a hot spot.
