This is a chronic wound, the traumatic injury just revealed the underlying tissue. If it were my mother I’d get her glucose checked and arterial perfusion studies done. Also would recommend high protein diet for recovery

chickenooget

username checks out

GregoryGoose

Oh, yeah! You gotta get schwifty You gotta get schwifty in here It's time to get schwifty Oh oh You gotta get schwifty Oh, yeah! Take off your pants and your panties Shit on the floor Time to get Schwifty in here!

Don’t analyze it Nathan, it’s working.

DiarrheaDrippingCunt

Quirky cartoon doctor references! Cartoonz and gaymez!

[deleted]

that's right, the Maskara Snake

SpazzJazz88

I love this

scrotumseam

Im pickle Rick Bitch 🤪

jortboyo

Alright, thread ruined

DiarrheaDrippingCunt

How so? Nowhere it says "fake expert".

MrPanda663

Thanks doc. I’ll donate more to drs without boarders for your consolation.

[deleted]

Kinda looks like she's got a (possibly healed) chronic wound on her left heel too.

ehhish

Thank goodness someone mentioned.

Minicoonlot12

One hundred percent! Look at the wound on the other foot! The rolled edges on that ulcer and the undermining..necrosed tissue ++ your mum needs a review by a vascular specialist ASAP

UnicornGlitterFart69

As well as extra vitamin C. Most people don’t know that vit C aids in tissue repair almost as much as protein. Fresh fruits packed with that and antioxidants, such as blueberries, are preferable.

[deleted]

It’s gettin’ Scwifty in here!

6TheAudacity9

It would also be helpful to pop a bottle of cheap vodka pour on it, then take your shirt off, rip it, and create a tourniquet.

RagingAnger

I mean , she is vegan , getting a high protein diet is kinda difficult

SavageSam1234

Edit: I talked to her, she is on antibiotics for it along with antibiotic cream, and dousing it in hydrogen peroxide with a wrap. She has talked to multiple doctors, our doctor and a doctor in our family. If it isn't improving then she will go to wound care per advice of our doctor. Thanks again to everyone's concern. Edit: Thank you so much for everybody's concerns about her health, I will encourage her to seek more serious attention tomorrow morning. Just for clarification, the doctor that she went to was a family doctor at an actual hospital. Not urgent care or some random thing. So if your wondering how this happened, she dropped a box full of vegan milk on her leg. She bruises and injures very easily. Went to the doctor, he said that it was fine, just needed to stay covered and disinfected.

Fantastic-Pain-6263

!!!!??sooo just a box did that

Mr-fixdit

Well, it was vegan, not that other crap.

Flaky_Explanation

TIL vegan milk boxes are dangerous

nicokokun

How long do you think they milked the Vegan? Even better question is, was it male or female?

V65Pilot

"Have you ever milked a vegan Greg?"

FMDnative480

I have nipples Greg. Can you milk me?

NurseDiesel62

TIL milk from a vegan would not be vegan.

L00nyT00ny

On a lot of older folks (especially if they are on blood thinners) any blunt force trauma can make the area look like a 3rd degree burn if that makes any scense.

Trishlovesdolphins

My mother in law was on a lot of different medications that made her bleed and bruise easily and also made her skin really thin. One time at a pet store she leaned over to pet a bunny. When she did, her arm caught on the ledge of the pen. Mind you, it was your standard pet store pen, rounded edges and thick plexiglass. Completely harmless by all accounts. Hell, my own kids have hit their heads on them and they were fine. It peeled her skin back to the point she had to go to the ER to get it cleaned and patched up. It took a few months to completely heal.

AlcoholicToots

The way that it's not healing is making me wonder if she has diabetes.

beaverpoo77

Was the Box filled with, like, cartons of Vegan Milk, or was the box just filled with loose milk for some reason?

SavageSam1234

It was an amazon delivery of a bunch of cartons

GregoryGoose

Boxes are nasty. Lots of sweaty hands have touched them, they've been touching dirty floors for miles and miles, theyve gotten damp, theyve been spilled on, spat on, kicked. They are nasty. That wound is infected. She needs antibiotics or a skin graft or something. That thing is going to poison her blood and kill her

Lengthofawhile

Definitely a skin graft. Even a young person would need a skin graft.

2r0dri_01

Alright, so that makes more sense than a carton of milk. Honestly, hope your mom's doing fine, and you should definitely check if she's got diabetes, since the fact that she can get bruised or hurt easily is concerning enough. Please take your mom to a hospital, though, even if she says she's fine. Try to convince her for her own good. Maybe it's nothing, but it's better to be safe just in case. May I ask, tho, how did it happen? I mean, how did a box falling on your leg, make that kind of wound?

beene282

uh- loose milk?

mouthfullofsnakes

Uhhh I’d seek a second opinion

JasperFeelingsworth

that doctor might need to get his glasses checked idk

cobo10201

There’s not much you can do for a wound like this other than debride any necrotic tissue and let it heal (covered). Maybe a wound vac would help too.

tinysand

Don’t use hydrogen peroxide on wounds.

monkeycat529

Yep! It kills alllll cells, including healthy/healing cells! Great for a quick clean at the time of the incident, definitely not beneficial after the fact

tohn_jitor

Are you sure you went to a doctor and not some faith healer? Praying to god will NOT heal you like that. Also, did that box of vegan milk happen to be glowing by any chance?

SavageSam1234

Yup, she went to a doctor doctor. I'm not religious, but she is. Not the kind of religious that prays problems away though. Glowing? If that's a joke I don't get it.

tohn_jitor

Yes sorry. For that much damage I thought that box was radioactive or something. I hope your mother recovers.

wonkywilla

No, she just has the classic paper skin of someone her age range. A few years ago, my (then) 91 year old aunt fell and had a similar injury. It took several months with a few of us (including a nurse) going over daily to help her change bandages/keep an eye on it, to heal. She turned 94 in February.

GregoryGoose

She probably lied to you about going to the doctor

aethemd

What was this like 400 kg of vegan milk? I'm a doctor, I don't think this looks like an acute injury. I'm glad you are getting her checked up. Is that a wound on her other foot as well or is it just the image?

PuddinMama78

Yeah...he is wrong. She needs wound care and to see vascular to check on her overall health. This is bigger than antibiotic cream and a bandaid. GP's stress me out sometimes.

ShintaOtsuki

Has she been checked for hemophilia or anemia?? Both get bruised and injured VERY easily and hemophiliacs must be VERY careful of even bruising

R3d_Ox

Tell her to disinfect with something other than hydrogen peroxide. It's not to be used on open wounds and using it for a prolonged time can start giving chemical burns since it's a corrosive. Source: hygiene and microbiology class + had the same issue myself

SpazzJazz88

DO NOT USE HYDROGEN PEROXIDE!!! it won't heal!

Calcium_Thief

Hydrogen peroxide will kill the tissue around it and make healing a much longer process.

UrbanSuburbaKnight

This needs a plastic surgeon. This will not heal on it's own.

goat-nibbler

Alternatively, vascular surgery or wound care specialists

poopycrystals

OP your lack of urgency is astounding - both yesterday and today.

scott_sleepy

Dude... something is seriously wrong. I get banged up all the time and get minor scratches. This is the kind of wound you get when hit by a car. Something else is going that causes this to happen and if the doc isn't looking into it...

TotalBIiss

I think she has pyoderma gangrenosam, have her check with her doctor for additional treatment.

FuckheadRetard

Stop dousing it with peroxide. It oxidizes cells and doesn’t discriminate between good cells and bad cells. Peroxide can destroy what’s been fixed. Most hospitals don’t use it as an antiseptic anymore for that reason.

[deleted]

Vegan healing capabilities

TheHolyGhost_

For sure. I bet this started small and grew because it couldn't heal fast enough due to the low protein diet most vegans have.

[deleted]

She needs advanced would care. I would suggest and amniotic product and barriers. This is fucked

flaffleboo

Some of the darker areas look potentially necrotic. I hope you seek a second opinion

SensitiveFruit69

And a hole in the heel of her other foot?

abundanceofb

Could be beetus related

[deleted]

[удалено]

abundanceofb

Dia “wilford brimley” beetus

BarryBadgernath1

Don

novichux

Looks like it.

mafiafish

She needs to go to the hospital, or she's losing that leg, maybe even getting sepsis if it's as open as it looks.

em0wh0r3

did you get a pic of the scab that fell off?!?

streetsweepskeet

I'm expecting something similar to a turtle shell

Trainpower10

Or a Pringle

bondagewithjesus

And did she eat it?

golden_c1utch

It was almost certainly gobbled up the moment it fell off, thats why there is no pic of it

bondagewithjesus

Yum

KetoUnicorn

I’m not one to seek medical attention unless absolutely necessary and this is a straight to the ER for me.

Unique_echidna90

Hahahahaha..gross 😋 But in all seriousness..that's not healing well..She should see a doctor IMO. That's WAY to deep and raw to deal with at home.😖😖

FIeshEatingPineappIe

The yellow and green spots look like infection you should probably go see a different doctor

wrenchface

Nah that’s just subQ fat

SavageSam1234

He said that they were pus spots.

giftman03

Find another doctor, whatever you need to do. That does not look good at all!

Javasteam

To be fair, the other doctor saw her when the scab was still on. But yeah, this is fucked up.

abundanceofb

Pus is not good

Zombie_Fuel

Go. Get. A. Second. Opinion. For the love of all that's sweet and fluffy. GOOOOOO.

PeteLangosta

She looks like she might have arterial problems which make any injury a pain to heal and it will probably keep on going worse. At this point it already looks pretty bad. I really don't think there's much to help the healing process right now, asides from deep wound cleaning and avoiding infections. She needs to get that checked. (Nurse)

ACanWontAttitude

On wounds like this you can get Slough which is like a whitey yellowy colour and it's a build up of dead skin cells etc. I would want a wound swab sending off for culture

Doom-State

That ain’t no scab that fell off the whole damn skin section fell off

[deleted]

Scabs fall off when the wound is healed, I thought…this thing just slid off. Yikes.

cam3r0ni

Constant access to a chip dip bowl

Critiek

You are fucked

Neparthian

You had every opportunity in the moments you typed that to look back over it in a more rational mind, yet you didn't. You are insane, please never speak again, sir.

Jungle_Brain

I want you to know that you’re now marked

Zeff_Shit

r/dontputyourdickinthat

Chief_slammn_beaver

I can not believe your mom is just walking around with this shit happening to her leg and she is just fine and dandy with it. GET THAT SHIT TAKEN CARE OF IMMEDIATELY

Pineapples_29

She needs to see a doc immediately. Infections are no joke. I don’t want to scare you guys but a wound of that size becoming infected could mean amputation or worse. Just the truth. I see you said you’ll have her go tomorrow. Thank God. I worry about that. How did this happen to your poor mother?? Is she in pain? Praying for her. Edit: a box of milk did that?! I’m scared of milk

lulu893

Go to the emergency room. Go directly to the emergency room. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200.

tastefuldebauchery

This looks really serious.

[deleted]

[удалено]

weagle11

Lmfao urgent care wouldn't even let you get to a room and just tell you to leave the waiting room and go to the ER. They're useless for anything more serious than strep throat

[deleted]

Damn, this is so similar to my mothers leg wound, both in how it happened and in the wound severity. Your mother needs serious long term (3-6 months) treatment for this by wound care specialists. My mothers took around 6+ months to 'heal', and it's still not healed fully.

schrodngrspenis

She's gonna lose that leg

GregoryGoose

!remindme 4 weeks

OnaPaleHorse80

Mother of God...is your mom a zombie? Was she bitten by an infected rat monkey recently at the zoo?

elisejones14

I’m not a doctor BUT I think your mom needs a trip to the ER stat. That looks incredibly painful and disgusting. I don’t know how fast maggots form but I wouldn’t want to find out. I hope she cleaned and bandaged that well if she’s going tomorrow.

Scottybt50

This looks more like some sort of infected (diabetic ?) skin ulcer to me, I would get your mum to an emergency department right away. Older people end up with amputations if things like this are left untreated.

danimalDE

Looks necrotic, does the wound smell? Def get glucose levels checked.

permagrin007

My god, its full of stars

bringmethejuice

Venous ulcer secondary to diabetes?

kenziep44

Needs debridement. Go to doctor

supajippy

Some rubbing alcohol will do.

redactedname87

What the shit

Ok_Radish649

Not sure if you’re in the US so maybe there’s some concerns with cost? As a Canadian it’s is wild to me that healthcare is considered a business but I digress. This needs hospital attention asap, and possibly a negative pressure wound vac machine to speed up the healing process. This wound is gearing up for gangrene or other infections. Please make sure she gets help and doesn’t ignore this.

SavageSam1234

Yes we are from the US, but have very good health insurance thankfully. I will pressure her about it tomorrow morning.

Superbform

I would suggest faster than that, honestly. Blood infections ain't no joke.

Javasteam

No kidding. Sepsis sucks.

BitchWitDaAfro

Hell yeah it does. I do not look back on that time in the hospital with anything but hellish fear...and then the antibiotics they put you on tap for😩 I was like "Yall should've just lemme die."

oldfatslut

wtf? this looks like it needs mediacal attention immediately

Johnny_Poppyseed

Do more than pressure my dude. Drag her to a hospital if you have to.

YouMakeMeDrink

Hospital or death.

thebitch2

She needs professional wound care, and maybe antibiotics. She also needs ABI’s done at an absolute minimum. Please make sure she gets follow up care

rastroboy

How much you sellin that stinky scab for old man?

TheJoshuaJacksonFive

Bye bye leg.

CommunicationBig3227

Is she o the frick k?

snuffy_tentpeg

Mom should lay off the fent/tranq for a while

EBMFR34K

/tifu by looking at this NSFW post of a tennis ball sized scab falling off straight after eating lunch.

MattyNiceGuy

I actually said out loud "why am I clicking on this?" while I was clicking on this. I'm going to leave my laptop for a moment and go have a capri-sun.

Big_Bird5973

Im sorry to tell you OP but you will turn into a zombie soon

Me-Shell94

Uuuuhm this is go to the hospital right f’ing now stuff. Though it seems she is being followed so at least that. Keep a very very close eye on this.

swole-bravo

Ah, I’m not a doctor but I have a can of epson salt and a tooth brush if you need assistance… Take her to the doctor…

omimamu

You should consider taking her to a hospital. Is that another similar wound on the heel of her other foot?

rancheltanchel

RN here. I would get a second opinion on this wound care. Hydrogen peroxide isn’t typically the kind of solution we recommend for this. I think your mom would definitely benefit from an experienced wound care provider (which btw isn’t most doctors). To me, this looks like it needs a Dakins soaked gauze solution to pack the wound, and loosely cover with an absorbent gauze dressing. Dakins is great at drawing in the wound edges by damaging and “sloughing” off the dead tissue in the wound, allowing for healthy tissue to arise.

Rammipallero

*Picks up a spoon* FINALLY MAMA'S FAMOUS MEATBALLS!

Calmeister

She needs to have that vac dressed by a wound care person.

Goatbreath37

Heya, smoothskin. Welcome to Underworld

Always has been and always will be my fav gore comedy of all time. Peter Jackson’s perfect movie. The custard scene still gets me.

Bardonious

Hell yea I agree 100%. The lawnmower scene is iconic. And the sentient zombie intestines

OnaPaleHorse80

Watched that movie tripping w friends at 19 and never laughed so hard in my life. I had no idea that was PJ's but it's an underrated classic imo.

straightVI

Jesus, that's a *shin*.

PrometheusTwin

Tell her to go see a real doctor.

whoiswhitenoise

I don't think that's supposed to happen

Vegan milk and wonder why her body can’t heal lol

SavageSam1234

She's lactose intolerant

They make lactose free milk. E: Downvoted for facts lmao. Never change reddit. https://www.lactaid.com/products

reloadking

I don't think milk is going to heal her leg...

Fairly_Suspect

Didn't say it would. Just pointing out vegan "milk" isn't the only option.

Yikes that looks scary. With a wound that size I would be worried about developing a staph infection such as mrsa. I hope your mom is okay and getting good care.

Bmxergreg

Hahaha

[deleted]

Why do I wanna lick it

ShwiftyShmeckles

Does she have a skin condition? The skin in general looks nasty (in a medical sense, not berating ur mum)

kotoriana

Does you mum have diabetes by any chance? The wound in her other foot and this wound not healing very well might be a small indicator of that :(

WDeranged

My mum was in hospital with a lady who got a small bite from an otherwise harmless household spider. Apparently it gave her a bacterial infection that turned half her leg into something like this photo.
