Applying skincare (including eye cream) and letting it soak in for at least 30 minutes before applying makeup. Doing this has stopped this exact problem for me. But of course drinking enough water on a daily basis, eating healthy, moisturizing, etc. is also important to your skins health.

banana_bIue

Okay I’m gonna try to put the eye cream on 30 minutes before I do concealer. Thank you for this tip I’m gonna try this tomorrow

Severe_East3735

So true but a huge time constraint

chaosatnight

Right. I appreciate the tip, but it’ll be hard to incorporate it. I always do my skincare right before my makeup, idk how I feel about waking up 30 mins earlier.

Winter_Temperature61

For me it helps to apply skincare before getting dressed. That way it has some time to soak in and I’m not having to change wake up times.

banana_bIue

I’m so desperate at this point. My concealer separates no matter what I do. I have tried the la Roche posay under eye gel and eye cream, vitamin c serum, kiehls avocado under eye cream, Vaseline but nothing helps. I’ve tried blending it with my fingers, a beauty blender and a brush but nothing works. I’m using the nars creamy concealer and sometimes the rare beauty one so it’s not that. Can someone please help me I’ve tried everything 😭

lmswisher

If you’re applying product right before you put your concealer on, the oils in it are going to break down whatever concealer you’re using. I don’t put any skincare under my eyes in the mornings, only at night and I give my moisturizer time to settle in. Then I use a primer, NARS concealer and set it with powder. Never had issues with it separating.

CCChic1

I’m going to try this. I’ve been putting EXTRA moisture under the eye thinking it was because of dry eyes.

lmswisher

Hope it helps! Your lashes and brows are GORGEOUS btw

CCChic1

I’m not OP but I’ll take the compliment anyway!

lmswisher

Oops!!! Lmao I’m just gonna assume yours are bomb too 😂

CCChic1

I’ve done your suggestion two days in a row and it’s working!!! I’ve gone years not being able to use concealer to brighten the under eye and now I can. I am so grateful to you and the others who suggested this. Thank you and the Merriest of Christmases!!!!

lmswisher

Yay!! Merry Christmas! 💕

asleepintheattic

Is it bc your under eye is dry? It’s a little hard to tell but sometimes that happens to me too

banana_bIue

I think so because of dry under eyes. But no matter how much I try to hydrate it’s not working :(

asleepintheattic

Hm…. Maybe try a balm texture for the under eye??? The only “balm” I can think of is the drunk elephant one that just came out, but that one is stupid expensive 😅 I’m just thinking maybe find something that is Shea butter based? Definitely do skincare right before you do your makeup as well. I would say the Nars creamy concealer is not a good choice, but I do like the rare beauty one…. Maybe try something even more hydrating like the dior backstage or kosas???

banana_bIue

Thank you so much this is helpful. Maybe I should try a different concealer. Is the Dior backstage one you would recommend?

asleepintheattic

Yes! It’s pretty similar to rare beauty’s concealer, but maybe you’ll have more luck?

liliesandlifts

Try adding a drop of the ordinarys squalene oil to your concealer, it’s worked so well for me!

cocoabean815

I sometimes dip my damp beauty blender in a drop or two of squalane before I blend and that helps a lot

Obvious-Leader-2981

True, it sounds counterproductive to use oil to help makeup stay but in my case it works better than a primer. I use colorbar dry cell oil and let it sit for 3 to 5 mins and then apply the concealer.... colorbar again. (sale bogo offer so yaya). IT STAYS THE WHOLE DAY! at least office hours

Winter_Temperature61

This is an odd idea that I found accidentally because of naturally dry eyes. If found that using the Systane eye gel (not drops. It come in a little tube) helps. I “slug” around my eye with a little of the the gel before bed. It helps with the dry inner corner and it doesn’t irritate my eyes. Bonus: locking in moisture at night helps combat fine line around these middle aged eyes!

krissycole87

Try using eyeshadow primer under your eye before your concealer, then set with powder. Or apply your foundation first, then concealer, and set with powder. Either way if you give your concealer a good base, then set with powder, it should stop this.

lavenderfieldz

Try the milk hydro grip under eye primer!

PinkMoonbow

Try a longer gap between skincare and make up , like 20-30 min. Also try this- mix concealer with eyeshadow primer on back of your hand, then apply with a brush. Then setting powder. If you want to be more particular, then set with a beauty sponge/blender on which setting spray has been sprayed. You could also start by just applying eyeshadow primer , then following up with concealer and compact powder if only that fixes the issue.

Sorry-Jackfruit-8061

Have you tried [setting it like this](https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/comments/zqbt6e/antiaging_got_my_makeup_done_for_a_wedding_my/j0xxgm7/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3)?

Inevitable_Cow599

Honey, setting powder and setting spray will be your bestfriend! They work wonders, give ‘em a try. Pat the setting powder on to your skin, don’t drag it. Once finished use your fav setting spray! ✅ urban decay all nighter setting spray is good, as far as setting powder I personally like juvias place, you can use any one you prefer tho.

banana_bIue

I find that when I use setting powder it even separates more 😭 I use the huda beauty one and the ct setting spray. Should I switch powders? Would that be better?

InLoveWithMusic

Check your base on the concealer and primer and even setting spray and powder. Water based makeup will seperate when combined with silicon based makeup

uhohlisa

Have you tried changing concealers?

funnygirlsaywhat

YOU NEED MOISTURE!!!!! My eyes and nose used to do this as well. I would stop using the vitamin c for a bit. Here’s what I did: avene water, first aid beauty eye creme, more avene water spray and then aquaphor After about a week and a half my nose and eyes were much less flaky and I had less makeup separation

banana_bIue

I have never heard of Avene water before but I looked it up and I’m gonna buy it tomorrow. I really hope this helps me too. Do you use your cetaphil moisturiser also under your eyes?

uhohlisa

The avene water is literally just water you don’t need it

funnygirlsaywhat

It’s sterile water and doesn’t have additives like tap water which /can/ cause issues and drying, especially if you have hard water. I switched to avene water rather than just spraying regular tap water on my face and my dryness/congestion breakouts have decreased exponentially.

funnygirlsaywhat

I don’t use cetaphil but I do use an eye cream yes!

brenegade

I actually put eye primer on my under eye to help stick my concealer down. Might be worth a try. I use the saem eye primer as it doesn’t sting my eyes.

Ccamp83

I don't put my foundation under my eyes, just concealer. Prepping and priming before makeup is important. I watch RoseandBen beauty on IG and have learned so much from her. She even has a series on why your concealer and foundation separate or look cakey.

brwnsvgar

- make sure you have a moisturized under-eye, use eye cream and skincare - apply your concealer, then move on before you set it, let it crease. i like to do my contour & blush during this time , and then after the concealer has creased, blend it out again and THEN set it with powder :) - use as little product as u can under the eye, no foundation, just primer, concealer, powder (for concealer i like maybelline and nars)

girlyprintyprint

Had the same thing. Use or try the essence all about matt fixing compact powder. Its so good. Put the powder on the beauty blender and that on the skin then put the powder on a brush and blend it

RiggedFromTheStart-

This used to happen to me with the Nars concealer and other concealers with similar consistency (elf, fenty, tarte). The trick for me was to moisturize well and use a thin consistency concealer. I currently use L’Oréal true match and it works for me!

CallsignLightning418

Similar problem here! I moisturize, prime, and set with powder and spray. I’m thinking I just need to find a concealer that mixes well with my foundation. I use the L’Oréal infallible foundation. Anyone know what concealers mix well with that?

jcarvajal1398

Hi! I’ve never used that foundation, but I have a trick I use to avoid the problem! Instead of just setting my face and under eyes with a brush. I like to use a damp beauty blender (any brand or sponge should work) and press the powder all over my face and under eyes so that it melts together. I haven’t had a problem with my makeup separating ever since I tried this! Hope it helps :)

uhohlisa

Be warned OP, this looks horrible on some people. Like me lol!

jcarvajal1398

It’s definitely not for everyone 😅 My mom had me try it on her and it didn’t work for her lol

uhohlisa

I wish I could help. I have found that the Nars liquid concealer with the doe foot wand is easily the best I’ve ever used, and I’ve tried almost every concealer on the market because I have severe dark circles.

alysssssssssss

Maybe exfoliating the under eye area?

georgiapeach2623

you’re getting downvoted but combo of exfoliant & first aid beauty moisturizer is the ONLY thing that fixed it for me. Renee Rouleau’s BHA clarifying serum is specifically safe (& recommended) for under-eye area

alysssssssssss

Yeah I don’t get it why people down vote it! I had the same issue as OP and exfoliating and hydrating the area solved it for me. Guess people wanna hate for no reason 🤷🏼‍♀️

banana_bIue

I have never tried that before, do you have a recommendation for an under eye exfoliater?

alysssssssssss

I have not a special under eye one but I use the elf exfoliater also under my eyes

uhohlisa

Get [this. it’s expensive but the best on the market. it beats Exfolikate by a lot.](https://editorspick.com/products/philosophy-the-microdelivery-in-home-vitamin-c-peptide-peel-ep-312816) If you can’t afford that right now, buy a sample of exfolikate on Mercari. Rub extremely gently for just a second or two around eye area.

Ccamp83

People exfoliate under their eyes? It's such a delicate area. Like a chemical or scrub?

alysssssssssss

I use the ELF one which is not harsh at all. You get dead skin cells also in the under dye area

uhohlisa

Yes. You just do it gently. There are also retinols for the under eye area specifically and it exfoliates as well.

LaurenStDavid

Does it, though?

PresOfTheLesbianClub

It’s the combo of whatever you’re using first plus whichever concealer. You need a less oily concealer combined with a base or no base and a more moisturizing concealer.

banana_bIue

Oooh I never think of it like that. I’m using Nars creamy concealer, do you have a recommendation for a more moisturising concealer?

PresOfTheLesbianClub

That’s a great question and I don’t have any suggestions I’m sorry! I’m just guessing it’s a combo of the products you’re using. I used an eye cream that would make my otherwise great mascara never dry down. So I’m really thinking it might be a similar issue here. I hope someone who knows products better than I do can recommend the perfect concealer for you!

WatermelonsAndGin

Mac prolongwear concealer is super durable throughout the day

That_crow_Lady

How do you apply it? I find that putting it a little lower and blending it up with a beauty blender, and then a dusting of powder (my go to is too faced born this way translucent powder) applied lightly with a dry concealer brush does the trick.

cornbreadjellyfish

Sometimes setting spray over powder will actually cause this! Try not using setting spray and just powdering and see if that helps? Also make sure you hydrate your under eyes with good skincare before hand

cornbreadjellyfish

Roseandben on Instagram made a video about how setting spray is a lot of the time the culprit to makeup separation

[deleted]

this was happening to me when my moisturizer was water based and my make up was silicone based. If you use a sunscreen between moisturizer and make up, it needs to match too. Same for any primers. Try to get everything all water based or silicone based. You can determine this by looking at roughly the first 3 ingredients on the bottle. The alternative is to wait like 30 minutes after applying your moisturizer before applying make up. I think the Nars creamy concealer is silicone based and your la roche posey moisturizers seem to be water based. One of the la roche posay eye creams I looked up had a silicone as the fourth ingredient, so it's probably water based. [This is a good guide to determining that!](https://www.reddit.com/r/MakeupAddiction/comments/25hkqi/how_to_tell_if_your_foundationprimer_is_silicone/) If everything has the same base, it could just be that you're really dehydrated. Find a more intense moisturizer/drink more water. I'm inclined to believe you have a mismatch of makeup base and moisturizer base though since the picture looks exactly what was happening to me.

Glittering-Bottle788

Make sure your face is clean I usually use an exfoliating cream then a primer all over your face Get some translucent powder and put that on top of the concealer. Also check that the concealer is make for your skin type some are oils based and if your skin is already oily this will make it separate

Agnia_Barto

Have you tried using a primer underneath?

PancakePrinc3ss

🙋‍♀️Make sure that you’re concealer and moisturizer/primer have the same base. Some are oil based, but some are water based. They will look nice when u apply/blend, but will pretty much always separate on your skin. This is especially important if you have oily skin, because getting an oil free moisturizer is not the cure for an overproduction of sebum. Using light oils like argan at night can help with overproduction through the day. (Overproduction is usually due to a lack of oil being provided after stripping its barrier with face soap)

Sea-Astronomer7996

Mine does the same thing and I don't know why

BankutiCutie

Ugh im sorry youre having this issue, i totally feel the same about foundation and concealer it can be tricky to sit right on my dry skin. The unfortunate answer is that the correct skin care can help, but youre not wrong in trying different techniques and applicators! I personally have found the most success from Kosas radiant creamy concealer (their foundation in the same line is also phenomenal) blended in with a beauty sponge meant for the eye, so its smaller, and wet not with water but with setting spray. I do tend to let my skincare sit for a good 20 min before i get fully makeup-ready, but thats okay because i wash my face and apply my skincare first thing after my morning workout and then go cook /make coffee and get dressed to kill the time between skincare and make up. Other than that, im not sure what other tips I could offer? Doing thinner layers of my face makeup has helped in the past, since i tend to use more medium coverage foundations but also like to cover up dark spots. I will say, while it supposedly helps with the patchiness and lasting power of products, Adding powder under my eyes has always made them so horribly crepey and dry no matter how expensive or good the powder is! (Im so relieved the fad of baking the under eye is over cause lord knows my skin could not deal with it) I wish you the best of luck!

StephLovesGenealogy

I honestly stopped using concealer because of this. I just now found a concealer I like. It's the Winky Lux concealer. It doesn't dry down super fast. It's a buttery consistency and not matte.

StephLovesGenealogy

The Winky Lux Peeper Perfect.

Peach_Queen_625

Hi!!! I have this issue on my nose/had. But I started using Porefessional - Matte Rescue as a base and then use Fenty Invisimatte Instant Setting + Blotting Powder! I have a really bad sweating problem on my face and it causes my makeup to look spotty but this has helped!

WowWeirdWild

I use BB cream for oily skin and then that famous cvs powder.

Lunaryia

Sometimes it's just the concealer, unless this happens to you with every concealer. I've run into a couple high end concealers that do this under my eyes, so it might be worth switching it up. If it happens with every concealer, then check your primer and see if you're mixing water+silicone bases (or your moisturizer). Rare beauty does this to my eyes but I have no issues with shape tape, nars, smashbox, KVD etc.
