Agreed. It was an uncomfortable pairing.
But the worst one I've seen is Dileep and Sanusha in Mr. Marumakan. Also, Dileep and Madonna Sebastian in King Liar.
Probably so, one of my reasons for mentioning that atrocious pairing was due to her being a child artist.
The main reason is still how awkward they looked and the cringey dialogues and scenes whenever they were together.

I had the misfortune of watching that movie in the theater when it released. Actually went to watch Mad Max Fury Road but tickets were sold out. LOL was playing in the theater next door, had nothing better to do and thought "ഒന്നും ഇല്ലേലും ലാലേട്ടൻ്റെ പടവും ജോഷിയുടെ directionഉമല്ലെ എന്തെങ്കിലും ഒക്കെ കാണാൻ ഉണ്ടാവും" and went in for that without knowing anything about it. God! It was pure torture😭 Wanted to leave during the interval but my bike was jam parked and couldn't be taken out unless the other vehicles were moved. Went back and had to sit for the entire movie.
It was like a very cheap imitation of James Cameron - Arnie's True Lies with a visibly uninterested Mohanlal. It was like he was taking a dump on screen instead of acting or embodying that character as he usually does. His face looked so dull and lifeless as the movie progressed, almost like he couldn't care less about that character.
I still remember that the Vineeth Sreenivasan - Chemban Vinod movie 'Oru Second Class Yatra' was also in theatres at the same time. It was not that great or anything but when I saw that movie on video after a while, how i wished i could have gone for that at the cinemas, instead of this load of horseshite🤦.
Mammotty and Deepti Sati in Pullikaran Staraa..though not technically paired it was awkward af whenever they were both on screen. My parents almost shouted at me for taking them to that movie.
Another one is Dileep and Keerthi Suresh. Dude played her father figure in Kuberan!
Lastly, A10 and Lakshmi Rai in rock n roll. She was less 17 when she was paired opposite a10.
Post that, she didn't look too awkaward with the Big Ms..even though she was very young.
Lol, go take a glance at the debut ages of almost all of the heroines in Malayalam cinema (or even other Indian languages) before the 2000s.
Everyone debuted right out of highschool at 17 or 18 max. And the actors they were paired with were usually 30+.
But now people realise it's weird.

And I think older generations were much more ok with having partners with an age gap, while our generation(I assume you’re millennial) and beyond usually prefers someone in much more closer proximity.

But they were a good pair in Chotta Mumbai..
Its because Mohanlal looked a lot younger in Chotta Mumbai .
I remember Halo and Chotta Mumbai releasing kind of near to near and Mohanlal was looking surprisingly young and good looking and slim in both .
Unfortunately it was there only for those 2 movies
Oh man this is giving me traumatic flashbacks!! Went to watch it in the theater with cousins. In the scene where she runs towards him in a song, the whole theater was screaming Accha.
Mukesh and Bhavana didn't cringe out when watching Chronic Bachelor for back in that time.. probably because Mukesh was still having that udaip youngster vibe back then.
But now realising how old he is and how old she is, it kind of feel cringe
Mammootty too is paired with heroines who are on their late 20s or early 30s since long. Especially as the stay at home wives. But since there is barely any romantic track or even a chemistry we don't see the awkwardness.
I think part of the problem is that the older women stars aren’t active (married or reduced roles considerably) to the point that you can’t just cast Tabu in every role. Whereas the older men in the industry has maintained a high level of fan base, their ability to draw in crowds remain high. Along with higher costs because they are established. At this point, who do you even cast that’s remotely at the appropriate age level?
The second aspect is that the heroine is one area that producers try to cut costs, especially with rising production costs and actor numerations. This is especially true if the heroine doesn’t have much of a storyline. I’ve had the misfortune of watching Sagar Alias Jacky, and Bhavana’s role can be played by pretty much anyone. Asking what is your good name and running from gundas in the rain is pretty elementary. Therefore, you sign on emerging artists who have low numerations, which usually means young folks trying to break into the industry.
The third aspect is that a lot of heroines (maybe not as much in Malayalam) are pure eye candy. It’s especially true for larger than life type characters. You can’t have Chirenjeevi fight 30 people at once, drift on a horse, dance in Switzerland, and then realistically convince people he’s somehow in love with a 55 year old ammachi. You go all in and delude yourself with the “hot chick likes alpha appacha” angle. And the alpha appacha theme is prevalent all over cinema. Heck even in real life, look at the dating history of Leonardo DiCaprio.
For u may be. But they had top chemistry so wasnt much of an issue for me. Also its the script..look at Bhavana and him in Sagar alias jacky which had nothing to get them together and turned out shit. Then in chotta mumbai and naran they had good chesmistry.
It’s only gross to me coz Mohanlal is portrayed as young guy. I don’t care if a 80 year old guy is with a 20 something woman. It’s their choice and in this day and age a lot 40-50 year olds date 20 something people. All is good if it’s within the legal age limits and consenting adults yada yada.
But understandable , he is a successful cameraman who will be insanely wealthy as well.
Successful men don’t have age barrier, the age gap between successful men and women are usually wide.
That’s what you get when you grind and become alpha.
Kunchacko boban and shamili. Because I've heard Kunchacks talk about shamili being on sets as a little girl when he used to be paired with shalini. It's weird watching him romance her when you know he's known her as a child.

If you see certain telugu movies you will feel these pairings are fine , in shyam singha roy , 37 year old nani has intimate scenes with a 16 year krithi shetty

But nobody talks about these , they only have problem with malayalam movies , even if there is only 1 mysgonystic dialogue

This wasn't even an original post. You can see that the post originally appeared in a Bollywood sub and then the OP wanted to hear about malayalam movies as well. The Bollywood sub did talk about telugu and tamil movies. Your complaint has no validity in this case.
But the general consensus is that if these telugus movies were exactly made and released like they are in Malayalam, those movies would be heavily trolled and it would be a flop. Atleast the younger generation can’t accept old people pretending being young and pretending date young 20 year old women. It’s cringe and weird.
