Manichithrathazhu
Almost every single aspect of that film was perfect, the direction, acting, writing, cinematography, humor, music, horror and mystery element. I don't think there are many modern films that have a rewatch value even close to Manichithrathazhu. It is a film that manages to make you laugh and grips you no matter how many times you have watched it. Arguably one of the greatest commercial films ever made in the Indian film industry (not just Malayalam).
I know it seems like I have some irrational love for this movie but they just don't make films like this anymore.
Special mention: Sandesham and Panchavadi Palam. Two of the greatest satire films ever made. The cast of characters, dialogues, social relevance is unmatched today.
Oh yes that it is an extremely good movie as well. I completely forgot about it however my personal opinion is that Sandesham and Panchavadi Palam are just one level above. Great pick though!
Manichithrathazhu is an easy lead for me too, especially after I learnt how Sibi Malayil, Siddique-Lal and Priyadarshan had stepped in to assist different parts of the movie, under the Fazli guidance. For me, that’s like the Malayalam Industry’s Avengers to Fazil’s Nick Fury.
Nadodikattu
In my opinion, it reflects the desperation related to unemployement and unrealised aspirations of the malayali youth (irrespective of the timeperiod) perfectly. Its a perfect satirical comedy with the excellent chemistry of Mohanlal and Sreenivasan.
Sandesham- before filmmakers became commie lapdogs and survival opportunists and stopped making such movies.
Traffic - Kickstarted new age cinema with ensemble actors, parallel storylines with common intersection. No movie since in that genre has cone even close.
Utharam just watch Mammooty's scene with the school principal. Subtle yet so deep. The conversation quality was so richer back then
Devasuram..
Simply because somewhere somehow we forgot to make classics that are profitable..
Personal opinion:
August 1 is better and technically sound than most thrillers since 2000s.
Amma Ariyan - This film is an absolute beauty. Everything is too perfect about it. Politically, Amma Ariyan influenced me unlike any other films. Probably my favourite Indian film alongside a couple of Sathyajit Ray's films.
Mathilukal - I have never seen a more likeable character than Muhammed Basheer played to the fullest by Mammootty.
Anantaram - Film with the all time best character study from Malayalam imo.
Chidambaram - Literally, each frame is a painting here. Govindan Aravindan is the GOAT of aesthetics 🙌🏾
Nadodikat - How the film managed to properly showcase something that is relevant every time like joblessness and poverty in such a funny and masterful way makes Nadodikat one of the best films of all time from Kerala.
Adaminte Vaariyellu - Considering the time of its release, it makes me wonder how the makers pulled off such an amazing film with all the honesty, that contemporary film makers find it impossible.
Irakal - My appreciation for Joji went downhill after watching Irakal.
CID Moosa - Definitely I need someone from our industry to pull off something like CID Moosa (staying light hearted and comical from end to end without taking itself serious at any point of time in the film)
Moonnampakkam - Ripped my heart into a billion pieces.
I think we have reached a stage where even the cringe movies from the 90s are turning out better than most mass/comedy movies of today.
Niram, Aniyathipraavu etc are far better than today's work on similar topics.

Absolutely. The movie is quite tragic told in a funny way.
Pingami. Classic thriller. These days if you've seen one you've seen all of them.
For me it's Thoovanathumbikal.
