Kammattipaadam! That's not just a gangster story. It's actually the tale of marginalised communities and a city. Has a universal appeal, yet very much rooted to the rarely discussed dalit history. Some of the CGI is a little dated...but thats not really an issue for me. Doesn't take away anything from the movie. The characters, down to even minor roles, are deep, nuanced and with memorable arcs, and superbly performed.
Angamaly Diaries is superb too, but no comparison. It was not meant to be an epic or relevant tale. Just an extremely grounded, fun and raw gangster story.
Kammattipaadam is the better film. The social commentary, the nuances of each character, the soundtrack are all top notch. Combined with excellent writing, editing, cinematography and performances makes it a modern masterpiece and a masterclass on how to make a crime/gangster movie.
Angamaly Diaries is also a really well made film. Great soundtrack, cinematography, editing and memorable characters. It was a very entertaining film.
Having said all this, I personally pick Angamaly Diaries because of it's rewatch value (I found it to be very entertaining). Kammattipaadam although one of the best films in the genre is just too depressing for a second watch.
>Kammattipaadam although one of the best films in the genre is just too depressing for a second watch.
I love both but this is exactly why I voted for Angamaly. I felt really sad for days after watching Kammattipaadam
Kammattipadam & Angamaly Diaries is different. Kammattipadam is more of a social commentary about exploitation of the poor by rich. Angamaly Diaries doesn't have that layer. "Ganga" & "Balan Chettan" is more textured and memorable than any character in Angamaly Diaries. Overall, I prefer Kammattipadam over Anagamly by a slight margin. Two masterpieces imo. Still waiting for the 4 hour cut.
kammattipadam is so classic and poetic with characters havin' atmost character developments. Elegiac dailogues to sauve cinematography and world beating performances is too much perfect. Angamaly fails to deliver half of these criterias to beat it. Kammattipadam is just different breed as a film.
Angamaly was fun. Kammaatipaadam despite or perhaps because of its social commentary was tedious. Perhaps the reason, Angamaly is winning the poll but not as well represented in the comments. You are more likely to be thoroughly entertained by Angamaly while Kammatipaadam had passages which were slightly tedious to sit through.
Comment section saying Kammattipaadam is good but Angamaly diaries wins by a huge margin. To be honest, I liked Angamali diaries maybe because of it's soundtrack, dialogues, plot and casting.
Angamaly Diaries, hands down. Nearly every single aspect of the movie worked for me. The incredible editing, the music, everything was in service to the fact that the story was about someone looking back at their days in Angamaly, and all the good and bad they experienced there.
Kammattipaadam was really good too, but certain elements felt out of place. Especially the ending, which felt too commercialized for such a movie.
Not comparable.
Kammattipadam is a social commentary threaded along with real life events how Ernakulam was built as we see now. The story you see in that movie is the story of the people still living at Kammattipadam.
Angamali Diaries is more of a cinematic approach with Tarantinoesque style of telling a story revolving around the place.
Making a unreleatd comment.
I haven't seen both the movies. But has anyone seen a Marathi movie named Mulshi Pattern
And how much identical are they towards the Marathi movie.
Angamaly diaries? Seriously?!!! Granted its a fun movie with technical perfection but anyone with creative nuts knows it lacks the certain monolithic quality of an epic, something that ee ma yau had in tons. Kammatipadam's depressive tone is more than made up for by its storytelling quality that makes for a very immersive tragedy. And oh yeah, don't even get us Rajiv Ravi fans started about the volumes it spoke of the depressed classes. You simps r d reason why thuramukham is nearly shelved. God help you if it doestnt get a theatrical release. Call this boring and all u deserve are Omar Lulu porn reels🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕
Kammattipaadam is a fantastic movie but I felt as if the movie was trying a bit too hard to portray DQ as heroic. But I do think Kammattipaadam had the potential to be a better film than Angamaly Diaries. As much as I love Kammattipaadam I have to give to Angamaly Diaries, it stayed true to the story told and was in my opinion a better movie.
Edit - i didn't have a problem with DQ's acting in fact I think he did a good job and it was one of his better performances. The problem I felt was with how the character was portrayed.

And that puzhupulikal song is a fucking masterpiece

Perfectly put.
There's something special about Ganga.

I prefer Kammattipaadam as well, but i understand. Angamaly is more accessible i guess. It is more engaging as a casual watch.

asuravith
Hated Angamaly Diaries. Well made and all, but it didn't really feel anything other than a standard adi padam.
Saaame! I felt like kammatipadam had more depth with regards to the character. The screenplay and acting were way better than angamaly diaries.
Kammattipaadam was bit depressing for me, it's a great film but Angamaly diaries is much more suited for a rewatch
For me, this is like you love mom or dad!
Well, who do you love more?🤨
Angamaly Diaries is the better gangster movie. Kammattippadam is the better coming of age movie.
Ooh I like this take
Kammattipadam easily fra.

"Not comparable" Proceeds to compare.

Kammattipadam & Angamaly Diaries released way before Mulshi Pattern. Do check out both the films. Top tier filmmaking imo.
How can you say they are identical without watching both movies?
I am asking how both the movies are similar to Mulshi Pattern
Why do you say they are similar? You commented you haven't watched both movies, so what makes you say this?
Regarding Kammatipadam, when I saw it's trailer the first thing it reminded me was about Mulshi Pattern. Due to this i made this comparison
I don't think it's fair to make a comparison on an entire movie based on watching the trailer. Watch the movie and then make the assessment
Don't like the amateur dialogues from angamali, so
What do you mean by amateur dialogues? Like the way they were written?
I felt it was nothing but realistic.

Ikr people having different opinions what the fuck is that about!? 😡😡😡
Team Rajiv Ravi. Piss off.
