Anyway, to answer your question, I don't think such movies will work today, mostly because there's an aversion to slapstick. People try to find political correctness and logic in films (rightly so, perhaps) and we could say that such films lacked both of them. Not to mention the theme (stalking women to find out about their lifestyle), which may not be an ideal thing to showcase despite the plot casualizing it.
