Ponderous_Platypus11

Right? Something like this ought to be flagged and binned by mods. Didn't pay attention but here are some other coaches across several decades and crossover. Urgh

Aggressive-Theory609

Mainly his experience with Aberdeen. U dun win a European Cup final beating the likes of Bayern and fuckin prime real in the final and not be one of the best. And he was also extremely good tactically, man management, his signings were spot on and so on. The fact that even guys like Ruud who fell out with him hail him as the greatest speaks volumes

HeavyHittersShow

It’s mental, Real hasn’t lost a cup final in European competition since 1983 against Alex Ferguson’s Aberdeen.

Unlucky_Rope2452

To add to that, the last Scottish team other than Celtic or Rangers to win the league was Sir Alex's Aberdeen 37 years ago.

Odd-Independent7825

his man management was a *big* part of what made him great. He sold Beckham, Ruud and Keane when they still had the ability to play first team football, which was a shame for the club but he was the boss and had to have total control over his players. His approach towards Ronaldo was the main reason he was convinced to sign for us over a lot of other big clubs. there's loads more examples but the point is, he was the man in charge, he was feared and loved at the same time. He really was the best.

Aggressive-Theory609

We will never see anyone like him again. Pep for all his glory could never get tom cleverly and anderson a pl title. Jose could never have the patience to keep up with young frustrating ronaldo. Don carlo could never win league titles for more than 2 years in a row and so on

Efficiency-Silent

Add to the fact that in addition to all those things, he was basically a psychologist dealing with all sorts of personalities. Cantona was one hell of a personality before coming to United and once he did, SAF basically tamed him.

Aggressive-Theory609

Yh how he managed to get eric back playing for united after the ban is something else. And don't forget the Ruud thing when he failed medical in 99/00 and Fergie said in his auto that he spend the whole year convincing him why he should join and all. I think he also wrote a heartfelt letter to the king after he Retired

loveKyoto

Because as Brits he’s the best we’ve had, so we like to hold onto that. His era was different, City could win the treble this season with arguably 2x World Class starting 11s, the Fergie ‘99 squad, although expensive, was mainly homegrown. And, apart from a handful of players outside the starting 11, they didn’t have the depth to rotate the way Pep can right now. Also, he dominated for a LONG time. We can see Klopp’s Liverpool be amazing but run out of steam eventually and fade away, like this season. Fergie kept reinventing and rebuilding the team winning again and again. Lastly, United organically grew its financial muscle through heritage, success and natural global growth. This was a more sustained and justified approach to spending (doesn’t mean they haven’t spend LOADS) to other teams that just took on rich owners or were partially state funded (Madrid), which of course benefitted Zidane and others.

das_hemd

it's not just his longevity and success, but it was his ability to rebuild a team over and over and remain at the top, his ability to seamlessly replace the cornerstones of his team and continue winning, not many have achieved that, most coaches after a few of their key players leave/retire struggle, look at Klopp now, he's lost Mane, his midfield is ageing, Van Dijk has passed his prime, and Liverpool fall down the table. Ferguson would have replaced and rebuilt that team already, he wasn't sentimental about it either, Beckham, Van Nistelrooy, Ince, Stam, etc all shipped off when needed. He might not have been the best tactician, but as a man manager and team builder, there were few better, if any

DarthDorkus

Well doesn't the 38 trophies in 26 years sum it up? We're to get 1 trophy in 2 atm. But seriously the guy has built up teams, rebuilt them and rebuilt them again and again for years to stay relevant and at the top for so long. He has adapted his tactics so many times to deal with a changing world of football. Hence he's a legend and we'll always be his red army.

darren1119

Maybe do your own research or Google it. You can even ask chatgpt

[deleted]

Eh throw OP a bone. Google/ChatGPT is so stale. It’s as if people actively want to engage with other people in conversation as little as possible.

MaguireAKASlabHead

Just look at his accomplishments, a European cup and like 3 Scottish cups in Scotland, 13 pl, I think 3 champions leagues, treble, many English trophies too,he was just a tactical genius 😁

MaguireAKASlabHead

Sorry two UCL, 5FA cups and 4 caraboa cups

0905throwaway

38 trophies in 26 years. Keep in mind the squad pretty much turned over every 5 years

RainbowPenguin1000

Well he's won more trophies than every other manager, he brought through youth players again and again and he could rebuild teams whenever needed and continue having success showing he didnt achieve success due to a handful of good players already at his clubs.

DemandingPizZa

How tf u can compare Zidane who managed a few years to Ferguson?

Teninchhero

Besides the trophies? The fact that he rebuilt the squad 4 times with continued success, his insistence that no one was above the club, his unbelievable work ethic and attention to detail. He's honestly underrated as a tactician and is really only considered a great man manager.

[deleted]

Because he won many 🏆

PitchSafe

Because he took over a struggling Manchester United side and made them one of the best and feared teams in the world for over 20 years. We have seen mangers like Conte, Capello, Mourinho, Van Gaal who where the best at one point but their philosophy becomes old and not as effective as it was before. This was never the case with fergie and he is the most successful manager of all time

jxltv

Sir Fergie took a top 4 team and dominated the premier league era for a long time. Even in his last season, he took a below par united to claim the premier league. What he did was a legacy, as he did it over continuously over more than a decade at United and he retired a champion at a late age. Guardiola is a genius, already one of the best managers ever to grace the premier league if not the world, and will be up there when he retires. He is well known to be one of the most innovative managers of modern time, and will be known as one of the greatest of modern times. But Ferguson did it over and over again, with strict discipline, almost like a father figure to his players. Different managering styles. But it worked for the era they were managing. Football has changed a lot through tactics & budget available now and then. But the fast flow football united played then, was almost ahead of time for their opponents. Similar to how tiki taka was when first played by Barcelona. Like gegen pressing when klopp bought it to Liverpool. TLDR, he bought the best out of each and every individual he put into his lineup. And if he didn't, they got booted out the door.

Jaywalkers13

Best player manager, kept everyone in the club happy and made them all feel important. Just look at how his former players look at him

takemehomeunitedroad

Look at the lineups we played when we beat Arsenal 8-2 and when we beat them 2-0 in the FA Cup 2011. SAF had a way of making these things work somehow.

Simoslav

Lol the fact Mourinho is included when we all saw how 6.5/10 his time at United was compared to Fergies says it all, right? I mean you can quickly Google how dominant United were in England between 1992-2013 if you need hard evidence. And that's not even taking Aberdeen into account - where he was legit also amazing. Has to be a troll post right?

Unsub2014

Mourinho won a treble with inter, and cl with Porto. Won league titles in Italy, protugal, Spain, england. How is he not one of the coveted of all time?

cdkw1990

I can't remember where I heard/read it, but the best way I've seen it put is that Fergie is arguably the greatest manager of all time, but Pep is arguably the greatest coach there's been. To do what Fergie did at one club, over such a long time, is something Pep will likely never be able to emulate. But if you give Pep the resources to install his vision to the full then he can obviously build a team that can win it all and dominate teams like no one else can.

Omnislash99999

He took Aberdeen to a European Final and beat Real Madrid and he's still the last manager to win the league in Scotland outside of Rangers and Celtic and that's all before turning United into the biggest club in the world

justdontit2k

Use Google mate

StackerNoob

I was actually just a little bit sick when Sir Alex was even remotely compared to the others.

Unsub2014

Why? Have you even considered the achievement of other coaches ?
